- Need power for your base?
I present:
Core faction Solar collector from the game Total Annihilation (Inspired)
PS:
I know this one strays from the game by not lifting up to deploy a lower internal set of solar power panels from the base, but i couldnt find a practical solution that would work within space Engineers limits. so there is only the top part. also, i know in the game the center part doesnt pertrude, but it looked cool

Okay I haven’t played much space engineers, but when I saw this open up I was like huh that’s a cool solar array, and then you got close and went inside ..... I was not expecting it to be such an incredibly huge structure!
I have over 3000 hours in SE at this point, the possibilities are almost limitless, such a great game if your a creative person
This is because you fail to understand something before you clicked the video:
_What began as a conflict over the transfer of consciousness from flesh to machines, escalated into a war which has decimated a million worlds. The Core and the Arm have all but exhausted the resources of a GALAXY in their struggle for domination. Both sides, now crippled beyond repair, the remnants of their armies continue to battle on RAVAGED planets. Their hatred fueled by over FOUR THOUSAND years of total war. This, is a fight to the DEATH. For each side, the only acceptable outcome is the COMPLETE elimination of the other._
So, of course the solar collector is huge.
What began as a conflict over the transfer of conciousness...
you just nostalgia'd the hell out of my brain.
@@thebaddestogre-3698 than you guys should play BAR - Beyond all reason... its the unofficial sequel of Total Annihilation with some of the original devs with new Graphics and its F2P
Noice - amazed that it all managed to fit without much issue - I was expecting the guts to extend into the planet lol
I’m new to space engineers but it was so complicated and intimidating. After seeing this though.. I’m really tempted to try again lol
Glad to hear it 🔥
Just mess around with it in creative for a little bit, get a feel for the controls. Play the 'first jump' scenario a few times and see what neat and new ways you can find to get through it. Personally though, I'd start in space. Planets are harder.
its as complicated as you want it to be. you can be like the insane people in the steam workshop or you can be like me who makes simple flying sticks with components
That's awesome, gave me some great TA memories! Also, I reckon it would take about 3 years for that solar to fill those batteries on earth, but I loved the inside
That takes me back Total Annihilation was one my favourites in past though to be honest I liked the ARM better xD specially with that Vulcan though will admit Krogoth was awesome too
Got the arm one too
Looks like a server room on the inside. thats cool
Super neat, love the idea!
Blast from the past.
My gosh you people are creative with the game!
Never have to worry about a charge with that thing running... jesus
I'm surprised people still know Total Annihilation.
If you have heard of this game, reply down below.
Heard of it. Played it.
Not dead yet.
Still have an old install with all the expansions, 5000 unit patch 3.1 patch and the AI can use nukes
Sick build
Oh this makes me feel old
It's perfect, I love it
Oh memories!
Indeed!
Amazing, will there be a link to it in the workshop at all?
It's on the workshop under the same name
@@Kennet0508 ah. Effort. 😂
Cheers. Also is it just made of vanilla blocks or are there any mods in the design?
@@michaelredford5389 all vanilla, some dlc paint and lights
@@Kennet0508 your workshop page on steam is amazing, so much good stuff
TFW when 40% of the panels are in the shade 90% of the time
Have more to compensate 😁
People do this when putting PV on east and west sides of the house instead of the roof that faces south(or north if on southern hemisphere) because it gives more power over the day rather than peaking at noon and leaving morning and evening depending on grid or batteries. Once we had solar tracking arrays, but these days those are more expensive than just installing more panels, and they can't be used on a sloped roof anyway.
Nice!
BIG LIKE MY FREND
I think this build is pretty cool.
Me 2 😁
BARS THE NEW TOTAL ANNIHILATION
Bars?
@@Kennet0508 Beyond All Reason, a free indie game which is a Total Annihilation clone. Pretty nice game.
@@madkaris7224 yeah! I heard about it, someone requested i build the big Bertha so i was looking for footage from BARS
Ah yes, the grass is still inside
Yeah, terraforming required for a grass free experience
The only thing I would change is
The placement of the timer block.
I put it where the timer block is now for yes. I know it is bad to put there, but I take that then to always manually repair the timer block
Your sentence doesn't make sense.
Where would you move the timers and why
@Kennet0508 the question is
If the timer block is fully destroyed. Do you need to manually edit it to make it function again?. That why I switched place.
@@nuruddinshah684 i guess if you place a projector down and repair them through the projection, it should just work? Needs testing
hey i need such a thing to power the abyss ( a drill that strip mines trough a planet it have 2 purpose
1. Mining for materials for mega structures
2. makes transport on planets easier
)
Id love to see it, please post some links to update screenshots on the workshop If it pans out
How big would that thing be IRL?
There is a glaring issue with the lore of TA as people keep claiming stuff like the smallest units are bigger than battlemechs and throw multimegaton antimatter bullets at each other, when the mere fact that one solar panel or windmill produces a noticeable amount of energy for the economy proves they do not have the budget to produce and power anything at that scale.
Well, if i remember correctly there are trees to scale, so i guess that's the only real reference you have, even the smallest units are about the size of a tree.
I just built to a more SE friendly scale i guess, as that was never on my mind
@@Kennet0508 The point in the Commmander games is building an army of cool looking units, not that the unit icons are properly scaled. For playability the big stuff like buildings must look smaller so they do not take too much space and units are scaled up so they are easier to see. For example, a carrier is only slightly larger than the aircraft and the aircraft have been slowed down because otherwise they would fly off the map in seconds before the player could react and give them any orders.
But I wonder if you have any numbers for those solar panels, either TA or SE versions? We could assume advanced tech makes them 50% efficient and calculate the output or area if we have one of those.
I thought it was on a small grid at the start.
I was in the prosess of building one for small grid, but i never finished it
Could you setup the same with the event controller now, eg. As battery goes down to %, solar panels are deployed?
That would be easy, just link the trigger timer to a event controller with a preferred %
Even cooler still would be to have it trigger with both battery % and with the sun cycle, i think i may need to revisit these
Closing the panels at night might make sense, just explain it as doing maintenance while removing chances of the relatively tiny(but notable when the output of thousands to millions of PV panels is combined) amount of energy from star and moonlight messing up something when people would be expecting the power to be out in those lines.
But why would you wait for the batteries to drain when the panels can just produce all day long at no cost?
This looks like something out of atomic heart.
the event controller and its ability to let solar panels now track the sun kind of defeats everything youve made here
im so sorry
Now to be clear, this is a creative piece based of the game total annihilation, where war is ever present. The whole concept is built in a sense where if a threat is emerging, pack up and let the armor take the beating, once danger is gone, unpack.
So try judging it for its merits, as a showpiece, not a practical piece
lmao wtf? Interior walls as floor panels. Thats a terrible idea. The room has ankle traps just waiting to destroy your legs. Building is cool tho aside from that :D
yeah, i should probably add some catwalks on top, good idea actually, it just looked cool having some beefy cables going through the centre
Added better floor solution in the latest version with some other minor changes, get the latest release in the workshop
I don't understand, maybe because I don't play space engineers, but where does the "total annihilation" part come into this?
It's the arm faction solar collector from total annihilation
build the ARM solar collector
Already did
workshop bp?
Yes it's there and on mod.io user kennet0508
@@Kennet0508 Well just a thought, maybe put the link in the discription ;)
Helps me with not having to search, helps you with likeminded people (to me) wanting more of your content.
Besides, nice build.
@@kinngrimm i usually do, never got around to it on this and the other one
Added link in description
cool and pointless just leave them out all the time and save the pcu count
thanks i guess?

under appreciated
pls build "Fatboy" from Supreme Commander :^)
There arent any tracks in the game tho, and ive never tried custom tracks, but that sounds fun
