While Benedict Cumberbatch was great as New age Sherlock, to me Jeremy Brett captured the walking talking essence of the character from Conan Doyle's book. When I think of Sherlock I see Jeremy. He was simply amazing.
It may interest you to know that people from around the world still write to 'Sherlock Holmes' at '221b Baker Street' to ask for his advice - even though it's known and provable that he was a fictional creation. On top of that... if he HAD existed as a real person, he'd be an incredible 161 years old now. What more blatant example can you have of the power of words to transform beliefs? Is it any wonder, then, that people still believe in the literal truth of the Holy Scriptures, which pre-date the Holmes stories by thousands of years? I guess that one day someone will discover where Hogwarts is.
Jeremy Brett to me was the best Sherlock Holmes. The actor died way too soon. :( Adored Basil Rathbone as well, but Nigel's playing Watson as a buffon was a put off.
Thank you for such a cool video) Oh, and about your question from the description... I didn't watch many films and series about Sherlock Holmes. I only watched "Sherlock" BBC series with Cumberbatch and "the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson" Soviet series with Livanov. I really liked them)) Well, I can say, that the "Soviet Sherlock" turned out really similar to the "Book Sherlock" and I appreciate it. But the "BBC Sherlock" is thrilling too. I enjoy watching and reading Sherlock Holmes a lot. And like the most people in the comments, I want to visit the museum as well :) P. S. There might be mistakes in my comment. If you find any, correct me, okay? (I'm not a native English speaker).
The best Sherlock Holmes ever is the Russian variant , the actor Vasiliy Livanov . He is a real Sherlock , his voice, his appearance, everything 😍 Even the Queen Elizabeth || admitted that he is the best!!!!
I agree with some comments here. Jeremy Brett was the best Sherlock Holmes actor. Frogwares also did a great job and created a very good virtual Sherlock Holmes (their combat games excluded because Sherlock Holmes was a detective and profiler and not a cowboy). Because of them, I also think sometimes that Sherlock Holmes would be a real person.
I found the link attached below, but it says closed for re-stocking? Perhaps try later. I guess most of the items stocked will be available online elsewhere unless you want something specifically related to the museum. Hope that helps. www.sherlock-holmes.co.uk/shop/default.html
There weren't any displays within the museum that focused on Holmes on film or screen, which I think there could have been. I didn't see anything in the shop signed by the actors, but you might want to email them to check.
Whenever I think of Sherlock Holems, I see Peter Cushing. He's the best. Second to him is Basil Rathbone. No one else comes close. As far as Dr. Watson is concerned, Nigel Stock does an excellent job.
I always wondered why it is called Baker Street? All the bakers were in Pudding Lane, that's where an apprentice left a bun in the oven and started the great fire of London in 1666 :o)
Hi George, apparently Baker Street got it's name from William Baker the builder who laid out the street in the 18th Century, so no apparent connection to the great fire.
It actually got his name from Tom Baker, the best Dr Who. Interestingly enough he also played Sherlock Holmes on stage and TV, so maybe that's why they named Baker Street after him.
Forensics. Dr. Joseph Bell of Scotland was the real detective that Doyle based this character on. It is elementary, dear readers. Indeed. This is on Dr. Bell's grave: And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.
At the moment, I would prefer any Ukrainian anthem over any Russian music, sorry. Better use the Granada Sherlock Holmes intro then. Jeremy Brett is the best Sherlock Holmes anyway (imho). I’m fine with the music in the video.
I like Detective sherlock. I have bought some books , but in Portuguese because it's realyy difficult to understand in english. who kows one day i will visit his museum. Thank you!
If Detective Sherlock would be alived, he would have a hard days working with the political corruption in Brazil, or he would be engaged to mafia in Brasil too.
For a fictional character who's death cause massive outcry, building or giving him a museum is just small feat. Beside he's a cultural icon and is really known in detective/mystery literature. 😅😀
Nice video! When visiting another city or country, every educated person must visit a museum. Visiting museums is very useful and fascinating. A love for the "eternal" and "beautiful" is awakened in a person, the beginnings of greatness and respect for history are inculcated. It is impossible to turn the excursion into something banal, ordinary and boring. The person should be a comprehensively developed person, cultured, educated, critically and analytically thinking, with knowledge of foreign languages. It is the knowledge of a foreign language that opens wide prospects for a person to realize his/her creative potential, career and financial growth. I would like to recommend the practical training course by Yuriy Ivantsiv "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign language", where you can find lots of useful information how to learn a foreign language quickly. Learn a foreign language and realize your creative potential on an international scale! The international community needs creative ideas! Thanks to the author of the channel for a very fascinating tour!
Peter Cook was a comic legend. Sorry I will limited for the number of choices. Feel free to share any other favourites here. What about Robert Stephens or Sir Ian McKellan.

Absolutely.
Agreed. I would consider Frogwares’ Sherlock Holmes as the second best one (it’s a game). After Jeremy Brett.
Jeremy Brett was a Sydney Paget drawing come to life! ❤
TOTALLY AGREED....he seemed to be the only one with any dedication to the original character
Sometimes i suppose that Sherlock Holmes is a real person😅
There is someone close to sherlock he is called sherlock his real name is colin cloud
Ethan Laffitte don’t get fooled by him, he payed the actors...

@Darren Gilliam Have you read of the Oscar Slater case? Doyle actually employed Holmes' methods in acquitting an innocent man.
@@MartianTom I know he is a fictional character but I still want to write a letter
If I ever visit London, there is no way I would miss this place. such an Icon mate. 😀
Most realistic fictional character ever.....
I just love Basil Rathbone and his deep smooth Basso Voice as Sherlock Holmes

I loved the "Young Sherlock Holmes" from 1985. I don't care what people say about continuity. It is in the same spirit as the original works.
Jeremy Brett the best!
YES there’s even an black butler anime refrence to him in the manga
Obviously (also Benedict Cumberbatch)

Sherlock Holmes is the best.
Nessun personaggio mi è entrato così nella pelle! Lo adoro
Basil Rathbone embodied Holmes, as did Jeremy Brett. Peter Cushing also did a noble version. I love them all.
Jeremy Brett
only
I LOVED the Basil Rathbone movies when I was a kid....can't even watch them since seeing Jeremy
Jeremy Brett was the best.

I have a dream... I wanna be in this museum but I am live in Russia and dont have money for airplane to London 😪
Then start working on it to chase your dream. Work hard, save money, and you will be there one day. Good Luck!
@@wongkhaining4536 that is some great advice, you’re awesome
My dream too.
Do it with maps, books and your imagination, better than a physical visit, also for the environment

Who is that man in the portrait ? 02:00
Probably Charles George Gordon, a popular national figure during the Victorian era, who died at the siege of Khartoum.
