Loved Cinnabar in the 80's! Believe it or not I have been sitting on actually purchasing Coco for 25 years. A good college friend used to wear it as her signature scent and I wanted to respect that, but I finally got a bottle just last weekend, and of course been wearing it every day; agree it's better than No. 5, what a beauty. Now in my 50s and as someone who turned up her nose at anything that came before me, including No. 5, let me tell you EVERY vintage hater will one day become vintage lover!!! It's just a matter off time.
That’s awesome! 80s Cinnabar must have been so much better than this new version. Revisiting a fragrance that you loved is just the best feeling. I agree and I’m 100% a vintage lover. I love all kinds of fragrances but some vintage scents have a special place in my heart.🙂
I wore Dolce Vita when I was younger and loved it. It's such a happy, warm, comforting yet classy scent. A bit more suitable for wintertime. Unfortunately reformulated, it's still very nice. I smelled it today while I was trying recent perfumes and Dolce Vita wins hands down!
Your description is spot on. It’s such a joyful but elegant scent. I’m glad you like the new version. When I tried it, it was so light that I couldn’t really smell it at first. Anyway, thank you for watching!🙂
Coco is a very opulent scent but versatile enough to be worn to work. I consider it a night out scent like a said in the video but realistically it almost always ends up being an everyday scent for me. And to you!😊✨Thanks for watching!
Hi Luke! I’m so happy you loved Cinnabar!! It’s a real love for me. I received my tiny vintage bottles of Samsara and Dolce Vita. My dolce vita bottle, while tiny, is an exact replica of your larger bottle! It’s so cute! Both are winners! I’m not a fan of coconut in fragrance when it’s tropical and reminds me of suntan lotion. I detest those. I prefer a slight fresh coconut. I’m really enjoying my Coco!😂 Speaking of beast perfumes….Aromatics Elixir definitely qualifies. I used to work with a woman who wore it everyday. She over sprayed! I could smell it while I was still out in the parking lot! Still…I like it and own it. I make sure NOT to over spray. You don’t need much! I loved hearing your thoughts on Cinnabar. In my opinion, 10 minutes was not enough!!😊 I can’t wait to try more of the Estée Lauder fragrances. It was so nice to see you today!! I always look forward to it!
Hi Leah! Well, thank you for recommending it to me.🙂 I also want to explore more from Estee Lauder. I’m so happy that you are enjoying your Samsara and Dolce Vita. I like a “suntan lotion” scent occasionally. The coconut in Dolce Vita is not at all tropical, it’s not a prominent note anyway. Oh, yes, Aromatics Elixir is probably one of the strongest scents I’ve ever experienced but I don’t own it. Once I finish my Paloma Picasso or Magie Noire (same scent category) I think I might get just a small 25ml bottle of the Clinique. Would you say it’s similar to EL Knowing? I’ve been wearing Cinnabar for three days in a row. It’s not quite as beast mode as some other vintage scents I own but it lingers in the room where you sprayed it until the next day. I suspect it’ll only get stronger with time. Thank you so much for your kind comment!🙂 Have a nice week!
@@lukeparfums Oh my! I never would have considered that Knowing and Aromatics Elixir would be similar! I sprayed one on each hand, and they are nearly identical!😳 I only have 10ml of Elixir and a full bottle of Knowing, so that’s very good to know! There’s a very slight difference as they dry down that’s hard for me to describe. Maybe a tiny touch of sweetness in Knowing, although it is not a sweet fragrance in any way. But the difference is negligible. If someone sprayed one of them on a blindfolded me, I don’t think I could identify which one it was. You taught me something today!☺️
Thank you so much for performing the experiment for me and confirming that they’re similar.🤗 I own neither. I was reminded of Knowing when I tested the AE at the airport maybe a year ago. If you look at the notes, they’re both earthy woody slightly floral chypres and they both have a rose note… hence the similarity. I don’t know if you remember but I really can’t wear Knowing because it reminds me of a very dark period of my life. But I don’t mind similar fragrances for some reason. I like Paloma Picasso as well as Magie Noire. I’m not sure whether I need Aromatics Elixir or not… I’ll see.
@@lukeparfums I did remember about Knowing….. I hope at some point, the memories will be relegated to the past. They won’t be forgotten, but will no longer cause you pain. That is my wish that has absolutely nothing to do with perfume….it’s from the heart in this somewhat unlikely friendship that we are forming….
That’s so kind of you to say. Thank you.🙂 It means a lot to me. Sending all my best wishes to you, your family and your dog🐶 that you told me about yesterday.💕
These are all amazing!! I wish I could find a vintage bottle of Opium for a normal price. I’m happy with Coco, Cinnabar and Youth Dew for the moment. Thanks for watching!🙂🙂
Hi it was lovely to hear your video was great all the perfume.s seem to all smell the same I use to wear youth dew for years I miss it I may try to get a bottle I have such wonderful memories of it ❤
I’d love to try vintage versions of some of these perfumes - like Cinnabar. But I’m intimidated to try to buy them off eBay because I’m afraid I’d get a fake. Perhaps you could make a video giving guidelines for buying authentic vintage fragrances - if that’s something you feel comfortable discussing. Or perhaps you’ve covered this in other videos that I haven’t gotten to yet. I just discovered your channel about a week ago. Love hearing about these classic fragrances!
Hi there. Thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying my videos.🙂 My Cinnabar is the current version and I love it. I actually thought about doing a video addressing the question/issues you raised. So thank you for reminding me. I’m afraid there are no definite answers. Buying vintage is always risky because you never know when you’ll get a bottle that has gone off. I have some vintage bottles but the majority of my collection is modern, as in modern formulations. I don’t always look for a vintage version if I’m happy with the current one. I’m happy to own vintage Poison and Dolce Vita. There’s two schools of thought on this issue. Some vintage lovers claim that every single fragrance has been reformulated and therefore ruined so they only buy vintage. Some of us are sort of in between. We like some fragrances vintage, for some we don’t mind having the current formulation.
I saw the title and had to watch. Have been curious about Youth Dew but it is a little hard to find. I want to get a sample and try it out first because it sounds amazing! :)

Love the vintage fragrances because they stay on longer. The nw fragrances out don't last that long.

I had no clue about the history of cinnabar, this was very interesting. 😊
Thanks for watching, Claire!🙂
Spicy orientals are my favorites, and most anything with a note of incense.
We definitely have the same taste!🙂 I’m not sure Cinnabar has incense listed but the smokiness is definitely there in the drydown.
I have Coco Noir - it’s my “evening out” fragrance. I’ll have to try Cinnabar - it sounds amazing!
Hi there. It is, just keep in mind that it's more vintage-smelling than Coco Noir. Thanks for watching!😀
Dolce Vita is my favorite perfume for women and then poison. I love them.
That’s amazing. I love both, and they’re both must haves for me too. Thanks for watching!🙂
I wear Coco to work, it's pretty subtle on me, and yes happy holidays. Thanks Luke!!!

Great lineup... My favorite classic orientals are Opium (both original femme and homme), Tabu, Shalimar...

Happy Holidays 😊

@@lukeparfums Yes!
I love cinnabar but unfortunately the new reformulation just doesn’t smell anything like the original to me on the skin.
I’m happy with the current formulation but I can understand why someone who loves the original won’t be satisfied with it. Thanks for watching!🙂
