Just like your mom I grew up and was a young adult in the 80's and 90's. What a glorious time for perfume lovers, and yes if you lived through 60'-90's, you lived through perfume's golden age. Great video!!
Such a charming, uplifting video. I needed this today. After many weeks of being ill with Covid and not wearing scent, I've sprayed a bit of vintage Dior Addict on my wrist to enjoy a little luxury. Thank you Luke and Luke's mum ❤️
Hi Luke and Luke’s Mum. 😊 It was such a pleasure to meet you!😊 I can’t put into words how lovely and special this video was! Many thanks to your Mum for sharing her travels and favorite perfume memories with us. The two of you were lovely together. The photos were perfect. I remember the early days of perfume shopping. You had to sample and buy in-store. I know it’s more convenient to shop online, but it robs you of the luxurious experience of shopping as it once was. The lovely thoughts your Mum shared at the end touched me. Why do I have a lump in my throat?😢 Thank you…to both of you.💛
Hi Leah! Thank you ever so much for your kind words. Perfume shopping indeed used to be a luxurious affair. I loved how she decided to end the video. As always, thank you for your support, Leah. 🧡☀️
The golden age of both air travel and perfumery is very much over from watching this! Your mum sounds like she's had a very interesting life and that she loves adventure. 😊
That's so true! I don’t fly often nowadays, but I'm always disappointed when I do fly with EasyJet or Ryanair. Unless you fly business or first class, the experience isn’t great. However, with perfumery, we still get to enjoy wonderful fragrances. Vintage bottles are usually easy to find. Thanks for watching, Claire. 🙂✨
Hello Luke 👋🏻 Oh my goodness, how perfectly lovely it is of you to introduce us to your Mum... And may I add she definitely has great taste, and speaks with so much experience... Everything was (or seemed) so much more luxurious and decadent in the 80's & 90's 🥳🌼😘 Life has unfortunately become so bland & one dimensional, don't you think? 👀 Trust you have something special planned for your weekend🎉🎉 Bless you and those you love Luke 🧡 Gerhard xoxo
Thank you both for this wonderful chat about life, travel shopping and fragrances. You and your mum are very insightful and soft spoken, it's a pleasure to listen to the two of you.
That was a lovely collaboration with your mother to travel back in time. Your mom is so sweet and beautiful. My mom and I also share love of perfumes and often end up buying the same ones.
What great topics and questions for your charming interviewee Luke. She’s so right about the lack of preconceived notions we had back then when going into a perfume shop. And the clerks were very knowledgeable. It’s how I come to know the name Sophia Grojsman in the 90’s. 😊 Thanks for sharing her trip down memory lane with us and describing these lovely fragrances. ❤️
Thank you so much Betty, I’m glad you liked the video. 🧡 I have to say that I also miss those days, it’s how I acquired my first fragrances too, testing them in the department stores first. What’s your favourite Grojsman scent? 🧡
@lukeparfums a challenging question! I own and adore several SG creation but I’m going to go with YSL Paris. How can something be fresh, damp and green, and also rosey, violet, and powdery? I’ve loved it for 40 years and feel it’s current formulation is really quite good. I love the bottle design and cap too. 💕
Well Luke, thank you for sharing this beautiful story! It's a great pleasure listening to you and your mother on the fragrances you like and all the memories. For me this is simply the most beautiful video on fragrances I've seen, so recognisable also. Back in the days you bought a bottle of perfume, in a store, you liked it and used it up. I understand your love for perfumes the way your mother talks about them. Thank you both for sharing this with us.
Thank you ever so much for your kind words; they really mean a lot. I didn’t expect such nice reactions to the video. Perfumes were definitely more special back then. Thank you for watching. 🧡
@@lukeparfumsI truly appreciate your videos, they're such a breath of fresh air and your love of vintage perfumes shows. Might I add that you have such a soothing voice that makes us feel like we're listening to a good friend ❤
What a beautiful video Luke. Your mum is so lovely ❤️ You are so right I don’t see anyone wearing perfume. I don’t smell it on anyone no wonder when I go out and I go past people in the street or if I’m at the supermarket people look at me it must be my perfume 😁
Cabotine, Tendre Poison and Cerruti 1881 were my signature scents too back in the nineties😀. I have forgotten about Cerruti and how it smelled. I must buy a bottle just for the memories and to add to my collection. I have 3 bottles of Cabotine just in case they discontinue it in the near future . This video is bringing me down memory lane. Thank you Luke!
All three of them? Wow! 🙂 Cerruti is not as strong as it used to be but my mum says the scent takes her right back. Cabotine is precious to me too. Every time I wear it I’m amazed at how expensive it smells. Thanks for your lovely comment! 🧡
Hi Luke and Mom, I live in the US and I think wearing scents depends on the person and also culture because where I’m from and within my circle of family and friends, we wear fragrances. My students even wear fragrances (for them still mostly body sprays).
Fantastic video. Brilliant concept for a perfume video. Thank you to you and your mum. I feel lucky to hear her charming memories of travel and perfume from those days.
Loved the video and your mother is awesome! It’s a shame she rarely wears fragrances today, especially as she has a son like you! Today I’m wearing my latest purchase Estée Lauder Private Collection which I absolutely love!! 👍🏻❤️
Oh my goodness I enjoyed this so very much. Thank you and thanks to your mum. Very special indeed. Yes, I do remember how very special buying fragrances was in this decade and the quality of the perfumes available in that time. I don't know Tendre Poison but my gosh, Cabotine is such an evocative perfume.
Love cerruti 1881 and Coco Chanel❤ thé Classic one Dior addict is my fav from Dior i m a Chanel addict and old guerlain like vol de nuit and l heure bleue ❤
What an absolutely lovely video experience. Hi Luke's mom 👋 thanks for sharing your golden memories. 💛 maybe next collaboration you could talk about watching Luke become the talented parfumista what he got inro... you know, the embarrassing good stuff!! 👍😅 smell swell both of you and be well & blest!
Hi Luke great video , as someone who works in the industry, I take my job seriously and do a lot of training, I have also got my fragrance foundation,my main brand I sell now is Versace but I have sold many brands over the years, a lot of companies use agency workers especially at Xmas , I have worked for agency too we do get some training but I will always read up on what I am selling , but as you say we have a lot of students and younger people who may not do the same at times , also we are flooded with new perfumes and flankers all the time , in the 80s the perfumes were much less and better quality ingredients I think a lot now cannot be used due to regulations etc I loved discovering your mums perfumes I also was a poison and tendre poison fan ! Poison was my first fragrance I saved up for weeks to buy in 1987 😊
The market is really oversaturated with new releases. I was specifically referring to students and salespeople who work the entire floor, not just the perfume section, as is the case at my local department store. It’s a shame. I asked for Givenchy Organza once (naturally, they keep the tester stashed away because they needed room for another L'Interdit flanker), and I was told that it’s a perfume for old ladies. I’ve got enough stories to tell for an entire video. Thank you for watching. 🙂
@ oh wow that’s a terrible thing to say to a customer! I love organza! Yes it’s a shame loreal in particular are awful now they own so many brands how many la vie est belles and Libres do we really need !
Such a beautiful and interesting video! A joy to watch and listen-thank you! I agree that Cabotine is almost identical to Tendre Poison! I have a bottle of Krazy Krizia, and I'd say it's closer to Calvin Klein Obsession or the original Moschino than it is to Dune-it is very strong and intense.
Our pleasure, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Obsession? That’s interesting. I have a mini of Moschino and she doesn’t find it similar to Krizia. It pulls very green/herbal on my skin. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Hello dear Luke. What a beautiful video! Both of you have the same peacefull and soothing voice. Your mom is a special and very interesting woman. As a journalist and a writer she must have some amazing stories! Those times were so different from tbd times we live in. Everything was harder to get and consequently more valuable. We now consume a lot guilty as charges. What changed in our mindset that back then we only had 1 bottle of perfume and we didn't bought another one untill we empty it and now we have dozens and are always looking for the very best next thing?! Beautiful choises. Cabotine os always on my collection and indeed is similar to Tendre Poison. Luke you have to tell the name of the book about honey your mother wrote. A big kiss and hug to both. ❤
Hi Ana, thank you so much for your kind words. I’ll tell her to read your comment. I agree with everything you wrote. I’ll send you the link to the book on Instagram. Thank you for your kindness. ❤️
It's so interesting to hear that people don't wear fragrances where you live! In my country (Hungary), I can catch whiffs of perfume wherever I go, both on older and younger people. Arab fragrances have just recently entered the country and now every second person in the captial (so far they are only videly available there) smells like oud! So yeah, all in all, we wear perfume and a lot of people are just discovering/moving onto niches
That’s interesting. I’m aware that what I said is a generalization and just my opinion. I’ve lived in several European countries, and my experience is that I simply don’t smell fragrances on people anymore. I rarely catch whiffs. Keep in mind that I’m talking about the last few years. When I lived in the UK, I would smell Angel, La Vie Est Belle, or Coco Mademoiselle at least once a day somewhere outside. Middle Eastern scents seem to be really popular, but I guess not where I live.
I loved listening to you both. Such lovely stories❤ It was a completely different time back then. I was only a child then, but was interested in scents. How old is your mum? Just curious😊
I have recently been buying perfumes from the 70s, 80s and 90s. My choices are more what I knew and wore back then, like Obsession, Eternity, Looks by Jordache, Jontue, and Avon's Pavi Elle and Lahana. I'm so tired of so many perfumes lately smelling like sticky sweet candy. I long for the deep florals and spices of scents from 3-5 decades ago.
