Thank you. What did you think of the sound from the Sennheiser MKH50? Review incoming after the unboxing and first test review.

Hi Eric - I'm looking for some advice, I am filming a conference next week and as a backup I want to place my zoom f3 on the podium / lectern. I planned to plug in direct to the XLR a gooseneck mic. Something like this: Behringer TA 312S Dynamic Gooseneck Microphone
Would this work? I would likely find some power outlet to plug into the F3, but failing that I will use some AA Batteries, and change them in the lunch break.
    Many thanks,
    Major Tom

Remember battery banks are an option as long as the battery bank is exclusively used for the Zoom F3 to prevent any unwanted noise in your audio. I believe in part 2 video.
If a regular XLR size that mic should work. Could even add a line out cable for recording

Question. Why would you need to enable phantom power when using that xlr to 3.5mm adapter if your microphone doesn’t require phantom power ?
For example I want to use a wireless microphone receiver plugged into the f3 xlr to 3.5mm adapter. The wireless mic receiver doesn’t require phantom power so why would I need to enable phantom power for this setup?
    Thnx

The specs of the adapters I used would make everything known, don't ever use 48volts phantom power with normal adapters. If using a direct normal cheapo XLR to 3.5mm with phantom power you would destroy pretty much all wired lavalier mics. The adapters I use convert 48volts to 3 volts mic power. Rode wireless Go and many other devices including digital cameras put out 3 volts. The Rode NTG mic has to be turned off and on manually without it and several mics that are 3.5mm require the 3 volts for proper audio.

Can mono become stereo in post? Fcp lets you select stereo for mono i beleive. Would that be a problem if so? Cool 90.Great Tips🎉.Thank You

      Yeah it's called Davinci Resolve.
I complained to Black Magic about the issue... Play the file in media player it plays both speakers, play the file in Magics Vegas it is both speakers, play the file in OBS it plays through both speakers. Import "any externally recorded file even from DJI Mic" it plays through one speaker. Thank you Black Magic for being the only company to mess this up for multiple years.

I have no found this a bad option for any mic Dynamic or condenser. Internal 32bit records volumes are low by design. I've used the SM7B and the MV7 tested require the same gain volumes but 32bit float does not get hiss when boosted. The Maono PD100 and the PM500 requires even more gain and still works. Use also with the Audio Technica AT4040, Rode M5, Sennheiser MKE 600, Sennheiser MKH50, SE Electronics SE8, Audio Technica AT2035. I even hacked this to record the electric guitar.
Every single mic is out of pocket cost other than the PD100 I was sent for review.
I also reviewed a lot audio interfaces.
      I also compare 3 interfaces
      ua-cam.com/video/Yyyofy6KghY/v-deo.html
I reviewed about 8 audio interfaces, one I only showed but didn't review (cause it had too many issues and was too complicated to just bother for a flawed product).

@@sparkestudio wow, thanks a lot, that sounds promising. I'm torn between this and MixPre 3 :D But I can hardly justify that purchase as I'm not professional sound mixer by any means to spend such money. So I was thinking F3 will be a sweet spot. Let me check the other videos you've mentioned.

@@almynotes I've used the Elgato Wave XLR, ARTURIA Audiofuse Rev 2 (An expensive mess with HUGE gain levels using the PAD boost), Scarlett 2i2 Gen 3, Vocaster Two, all 3 Maono audio Interfaces... I only use the Vocaster Two for convince to PC due to it's large gain volume and recording direct to camera line out is very clean and the F3 for nearly everything. If you want to really learn audio tricks and hacks you may like many of my playlist of Hot Tip videos:
      ua-cam.com/play/PLYKqcb5ycRPZcPKwZ0B9M1W7WduplZsl7.html
My favorite all time mic is the Sennheiser MKH50 costs $1200 USD. Of the interfaces 2 of the Maono interfaces were provided for review, all others out of pocket cost.
If you use Davinci Resolve as an editor recording internally and normalizing audio levels using a mouse right click and using the line audio clips by wave form works well.
For your interface are you only going to PC?
In my case I sometimes go to PC, often just recording internally which allows me to turn the PC off and can test outside and inside without stopping recording with the freedom to move. The nice part about the Zoom F3 is I can boost volumes pretty much infinitely without introducing hiss and the volumes can be insane loud and it never clips the audio no matter how hard I try. I've only made microphones distort from exceeding max SPL levels. Sometimes audio may need more than 30Db boost for low input levels and Davinci is dumb in that you need to than use other methods to boost audio beyond it's 30Db limit... I learned how to boost most from Curtus Judd with his audio online courses, didn't know how to use fairlight. The part about all normal interfaces it they clip audio too easily from silent to loud noises. Zoom makes a normal computer interface with 32bit float BUT the output to speakers is subpar quality and of course like most requires the PC to be turned on. Another cheapish interface is the that does not have 32bit float but a compressor that prevents clipping audio and has external power source option is "Universal Audio Volt 276" but no internal recording and not as portable and no battery option but easier when using direct to PC.

The battery life is atrocious!!! I'm thinking to mount it on a cheese plate with powerbank holder and power via USB c because i have had AA batteries go from reading full to dead inside a single recording. Simply terrible!!!

    • @sparkestudio
      @sparkestudio  3 місяці тому

What battery is used changes things a lot. Even with the light on the lithium battery was 7 hours. If you watched the series of these videos you would see what I do. I use a battery back connected by USB and only dedicated to this device otherwise the audio can become ruined which I also show in one of the 3 hot tips videos. For standard batteries it drives me nuts about the battery life as well. The battery type has to also be set in the power type otherwise expect at times only half an hour of use before it powers off.

Davinci Resolve has an issue with externally recorded files, be it the DJI Mic, Zoom F3 or many others and import these files to your edit it'll play through one speaker despite all other editors, all other programs it plays on both speakers a mono file on Davinci Resolve plays on one speaker and has to be changed on timeline to fix or in audio edit. I complained to Black Magic about the issue... Play the file in media player it plays both speakers, play the file in Magix Vegas it is both speakers, play the file in OBS it plays through both speakers. Import "any externally recorded file even from DJI Mic" it plays through one speaker. Thank you Black Magic for being the only company to mess this up for multiple years and never ever fix this.

You are a factor of 1000 off with your battery capacity (mWh, not Wh). Otherwise a very helpful video, thanks!

LOL thanks, I don't know what messed me up other than a mistake somewhere on XTAR's packaging. I'll just remove the WH part and leave capacity if it makes sense to do so.
