Hey. Congrats for your setup. Do you have the universal base clamp right now? I saw it in The list. You don’t like it? I like that one and If you have it, I think it's a good one :)
I love it, it sure is most compact and perfect, and very practical and effective. I feel this rig is missing a side handle but that will compromise the storage part of it and perhaps balance will be an issue too.
Hello! Thank you. Glad you like it. I have a side handle and it works but yes, I will compromise the storage and the balance. But you can have a side handle in the bag and if you want to work like that it’s ok. Usefull and easy to use. Thank you!
I have seen so many rigging setups for the Mirrorless Sonys and especially FX3. I think, this might be the best one out there. Well thought out. I will use this as a reference for my own gear. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you! Glad you like it. For FX3 it’s easyer. You can use rhe original handle and record direct on camera. Happy to help and thank you for your feedback.
Brilliant! And if you connect a 1/8" cable to the Zoom F3's LINE OUT and the other end to the Camera's MIC input, the sound from the Zoom is recorded directly to the camera's audio tracks.

Finally someone who mention the audio technica. I have the same model and I'm very happy with it. Obvious it's not a NTG3, but for the price is amazing.
Hey! Sometimes with batteries, sometimes with a power cable :)) It depends on how long I need to use it and how many things I have attached to the rig at that moment :) Both methods are reliable :)
I like it and I’ll be using this as reference in the future. An issue I see is if you want to change camera settings, that cheese plate is in the way and may be a bit hard to see. Also, my a7iv may get a bit hotter with the display closed so during long 4k 60 shooting and may not be much room to open it unless you slide the camera up the u-base. There’s always something and finding the perfect handheld rig is a challenge. Not to mention, what is your budget..
Hey, thank you bro! Always it’s hard to make the perfect rig. For the display, you can let it open and close it just a half, at 90 degrees. I use the buttons so, for me it’s not hard to change the settings. I can see on the screen. You can try and see what’s the most comfortable solution for you :)
Very nice rig! I like it a lot. I’m curious though, is there an advantage to using a mirrorless camera as opposed to a cinema camera? I’m researching building my own rig for video, so I have a lot to learn. Thank you!
Hey! Glad you like it! The advantage is the price 🤣🤣 A professional cinema rig with professional cinema lenses is way more expensive. I like to use mirrorless cameras. The quality is super good and also the price is decent compared with a real cinema rig.
Hey bro! Thank you, glad you like it. I made that cable. I bought the connectors and the cable to make a cable at the exact length I need. But you can find short cables on amazon.
Great video thank you! Btw I really like the idea of carrying the whole camera rig as itself. IT is a real bothersome that you need to build everytime. So I would like to know information of the bag. What bag is it?
Clean rig - well thought out. Lot's of power but very minimal. The 32-bit float recorder was a very good iidea, usually you'll see a wireless receiver in this position. Cheers

And is it possible to connect the dummy battery in the camera to the monitor in which the NP F battery 970 is installed? I.e., the monitor in which the NP F battery is located will be a platform for NPF batteries.
I already have the camera, cage, rods mount, plate minus the the monitor npf battery mount and the BAG!..........can you post a link to thstbag as well! Great video!👍🏾😎
Hey may I ask why with the dual rods as "base" since you're not attaching anything else than a battery (like a follow focus?) It seems unnecessary added weight.
Hey! I I use them for 3 reasons! 1. The camera will stay better on the table without putting presure on the lens. 2. I hold the rig with my left hand on the road and pull the focus ring with my finger and it’s easy. 3. I attache the npf battery easy on the road in the back of the rig :)
If you record with your shotgun and also record the audio from the mixer, what do you use to connect your F3 to the mixer since you keep it on camera with the shotgun connected to it? I’ve seen people connect the F3 directly to the mixer and then connect the shotgun directly to the camera, but this sounds like both sources are going to the F3. Thank you!
Hello. Oh, no, when I record from the mixer I use another recorder or I just ask the sound guy for the recording. But no, I can’t record from the mixer and my shotgun and also move. Most of the time I use a second recorder. Thank you!
@@GabrielVIP that makes sense! I wasn’t sure if you were maybe using a wireless set up for that portion, but multiple recorders would definitely work. Thanks for the clarification!
Hello! If you buy a cage specific for ZV E10 yes! You can use a top handle, an NPF battery etc. If you want to mount a zoom F3 and a mic like me, try to find a cage for ZV E 10 with two cold shoe mounts on top or mount the mic in another place. You need to work a little bit :)
You need to start the recording on the Zoom, but it’s a small price to pay for 32 bits float. For me It’s more important to have a good sound than just to press a button. But you can plug a 3,5 mm jack from zoom to camera and record in camera with the limiter applied from the zoom.
Hello! How were you able to attach the cold shoe to the arri locating mount on the top handle? I was inspired by this rig and made a similar rig but I couldn't attach the cold shoe to the top handle with the screws it came with : ( any advice?
@@GabrielVIP Thank you so much! I'll be getting these hehe :3 keep creating mate 🙏 this rig video has really helped me narrow down my choice of parts and atm I'm super content with my rig!
@@GabrielVIP Good evening, first of all I would like to congratulate you on your videos, I learn a lot from them, I assembled a similar rig, but I'm trying to find a small adaptor from the big thread to a normal thread on the Smallring website about (cold shoe to the top handle) but I can't find it, could you tell me the link to it, I would be extremely grateful for your help.
i love the video this is truly a perfect camera rig I'm just wondering if you do a video on the audio recorder and how do you use it with your camera? and that kind of stuff always wanted to get a crispy audio but I didn't know about the method you just showed So my question is can I use that audio recorder directly to the camera as well? and I still get a crispy audio
Hello. Thank you and I am glad you like my video. I will add on my list and I will try to do a video about audio, 32 bits, microphone etc. Thank you for your feedback 🤗
Heyyy nice rig! what is the cable that you are using to connect the XLR microphone? In your list you have one that is not angled and I can't find that anywhere the one you are using (short, with 90 on both ends)
Hey bro! Thank you! I made that cable to have a specific length. I bought the connectors and I made the cable. But I find something on Amazon: amzn.to/3FxD2uP Hope this will help :)
Hey! That bag that I use is not in production anymore but here is another one, wit the same size: amzn.to/3Uvbsqc and for the tripod, it really depends if you use it outside, on the field or not. I use this Sirui tripod: Tripod: amzn.to/3RPsBrO Thank you for your comment and I am glad that you like the setup :)
Man I am so glad i came across your video. where did you buy the camera bag? I Have set up my rig exactly like this one. I have not broken it down sice I set it up! I freaking love it.
Hey! Yes! You can add a 3.5 mm jack from the line out and connect it to the camera. The audio it's excellent but the camera won't record 32 bit float. You will have 32 bit float just in F3.
I´m trying to mount something similar with my gear. I´m getting so much static if I connect the zoom f3 to the camera from the line out to the headphone jack! Apparently I need a ground loop isolator, whatever that is. Do you experience the same issues? I have already told you, but I love your bag! Which one it was again?
Hey! I never experienced any kind of interference with the F3. Never! I really don't know what to advise you about this. That bag is not in production anymore but here is another one, with the same size: amzn.to/3Uvbsqc Thank you!
Hey! You can do it! You need a cage dedicated to ZV E 10 and you can mount the handle and other things. You will not loose access to the screen. I have in this video an example of how you can deal with the screen: ua-cam.com/video/KenaWzNylxo/v-deo.html
@@GabrielVIP yes I've now watched ALL you rig videos! I want to say I appreciate your sense of fun, and simplicity to it all. Others max them out with the most expensive stuff that surely is sponsored or they are made of money and it's just not possible for regular solo hobbyists...I like your design ideas best so far, and will try and take the best of all and make my own. I have a ZV-E10 and that's it for DSLR. Everyone seems to have many cameras....too much $$ for me!
How do you start recording on the zoom while shooting? Do you have to click record on camera and the zoom? And will the 32 bit float work with line out into the camera? Just got a zoom and someone said if you run the line out into the zoom it does not record 32 bit but I could be wrong. Great work on the build and videos ❤
Hey! I press record on the camera and also on the zoom, yes! I sync everything in post but I have great audio. The F3 has a 32-bit float. If you use the like out and record in camera, you won’t benefit from the 32-bit float because the camera can’t record 32-bit floats This is why I use the recording from the micro SD card :)
Hey. I baught the connectors and made that cable by myself 😁 But you can find something like this here: www.amazon.com/dp/B00KWIM0K8/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_CPS3KTKABEF697BQJX9C?linkCode=ml2&tag=smartmediacre-20
Very nice setup! Question, I love using my gimbal, I’m afraid it would be a pain to have a rig like this at a shoot, and then want to remove camera for the gimbal. How would you approach adding a gimbal to a shoot while having it mounted to this rig, and only having one camera?
Hey bro! That's a hard one :)) Most of the time I need to break this down and put the camera on a gimbal. I keep the cage but it's hard. When I have jobs where I need to do this, I prefer to rect the second camera and use one on the gimbal and one handheld. It's annoying but... Uncomfortable to put this together all the time.
It depends! If you want 100% to record in camera, go with the handle. If you don’t mind to sync the audio use the F3. The quality of F3 is incredible. I like it because I can use it on my rig, in my studio, on my desk… the versatility is tremendous.
Yes! Search on Smallrig website or Tilta, Nitze, they have super good cages for FX3. Just need to be a little creative and search for the right adaptors and mounts. 🙋🏻♂️🤗
I've made a rig very similar to yours. But I found mounting the battery like you did (which I tried before) forces the battery to hang off the back. Personally that didn't work for me
Hey. That can be different from a creator to another. For me is ok but if you have another version, is perfect. The most important thing is to be easy to use for you! Thank you :)
Awesome rig! Thanks for the inspiration. I’m looking for a bag that I can fit my built rig in (or at least partially built). What bag is that? And what bag do you recommend?
Hey! Yes, and yes. You can connect the F3 to the camera and the zoom f3 will apply a limmiter to have the perfect sound, but in camera the final recording is not 32 bits because camera can’t record 32 bits. But you can record in booth and have the 32 bits one in zoom if you need it. And yes, you have Phanton Power :)
It still seems like using the f3 and connecting to mic jack has versatility advantages over the handle no? The handle is also only 24 bit so you would have (24 bit?) internal audio from the F3 while also being able to use it for studio and other applications off camera
So you can use the F3 via mic jack to record internal audio on camera and also have 32 bit external recording on F3? Did I understand that correctly. If so that makes it an easy choice over the handle
Hey. No! If you want, you can plug a 3.5mm jack fron the zoom line out to camera jack and record in camera a super good sound from the recorder, but in the zoom, 33 bit float, you need to press record.
You can connect a cable from the F3 to the camera but your camera can’t record 32 bits float. So, if you want 32 bits, you need to press record on the Zoom recorder 😀
Great video and rig. Thank you!! One question...Can you or do you use the line out of the Zoom Fx3 into the Microphone input of your Sony Camera? And if you do, what would be your settings in your camera??
Hey bro! You can do it and just adjust the level in the camera but you file in camera is not gonna be 32 bits. Camera can’t record 32 bits. I explained in my newest video here: ua-cam.com/video/dypYHLtgkQI/v-deo.html
@@GabrielVIP Thanks… I know the recording will not be 32 bits, just need to have it recorded on the camera. I have a Sony a 74 and it has AGC and limiters in it and no manual recording. Trying to find a way to override it. Would this make the sound better if I kept the volume down on my camera 21 or three? And adjust the output on the zoom FX3? Boo owns Sony for not having manual in their audio. You should make out video out of that. If you can answer my question thank you so much!
Serious question, why can´t you take your rig like this in the plane? You need to take everything appart what is the difference? Thanks for the nice video.
Hey! I don't truly don't know the reason and I think it depends on the airline company. Some of them will ask to take apart some won't. It's up to the security most of the time
Can you explain a little bit more? Which Type C port is not available? The one from the plate? The camera? Explain a little bit of the entire setup pls and I will try to find the best option for you :)
@@GabrielVIP The USB C port on the camera itself is occupied by an SSD drive installed there. Therefore, is it possible to supply power to the camera itself, if the battery is not inside the camera, from an NPF battery that is installed on an external monitor?
I don't find that version on Smallrig website anymore, but this one is new and better because you can tight it up and keep the F3 in a fix, perfect position: Monitor mounts: amzn.to/48X0fTo
You can't put an SSD through Type C. Through the platform on which NP F stands, you can connect an SSD to which connector, since all type C connectors are occupied?
Anybody have any issues with static noise when connecting the zoom to the camera? Have a sony fx30. Someone mentioned a attentiuation cable to make it less hot. Idk what I'm talking about
Hey! Did you try to use a better 3, 5mm jack cable? Maybe the cable is not that good or too long. I never had problems with it. The preamps level in the camera is low?
@@GabrielVIP I will try. Just been using the cables that came with my Røde mic and the one from DJI Mic. I lowered the volume in the camera and it works okay after I voice isolate, but not great yet.
Salut! Mercy frumos! 🙏
Hey bro! NO! It’s easy to sync in post and I prefere to spend frew minutes to do that but have a good sound. It’s a nightmare for me to deliver bad sound for my clients 😁
one problem I see with this....if you are going to shoot 30 videos 1minute to 10 minutes in length each...when you sync in post it is like putting a puzzle together...I see that the GH7 records 32 bit....but for Sony shooters...32 bit is not an option if you are going out on a shoot and doing a bunch of videos over the course of a few hours...syncing in post would be a nightmare...
Hello. I am used to it, and I move super fast to sync but yes, it's an extra step. If you want, you can connect the line out from the F3 to the camera and record super good sound but it's not going to be 32 bit in camera. But you will use the internal F3 recording just if you have problems.
That's a lotta shit. Too many things to go south. Too fragile for my needs. I'll take a used 4k ENG with Fujinon any day. Great video anyhow for those with similar needs.
Hey! Hmmmmm. I don’t understand. Which one is hot shoe? The mount that I use to attach the zoom? That's a normal monitor mount :) Maybe I omit something.

Hey, This is the bag: geni.us/dBICR
Thank you :)
And is it possible to connect the dummy battery in the camera to the monitor in which the NP F battery 970 is installed? I.e., the monitor in which the NP F battery is located will be a platform for NPF batteries.
If your monitor has an output of 7.4v, yes! It really depends on your monitor.
@@GabrielVIP Спасибо.
What type of camera bag do you use?
Hey! This is the bag: geni.us/dBICR
One of the best builds I saw for a camera rig, excellent video and sound quality, - but the background music? Sounds like a disease...
Hehe, thank you! Glad you like it! The music was an experiment 😂😂 It’s relaxing music. Thank you for your feedback 🙋🏻♂️
I already have the camera, cage, rods mount, plate minus the the monitor npf battery mount and the BAG!..........can you post a link to thstbag as well! Great video!👍🏾😎
Hey. That bag is not in production anymore but here is another one, wit the same size: amzn.to/3Uvbsqc
What Tripod do you recommend for this big beautiful camera rig?
Hello. Also, for this big setup I use this SIRUI tripod: geni.us/XoYjr
@@GabrielVIP Thank you Gabriel for the explanation! I'm building my first rig and your videos have been very inspiring.
Now that you have had it it awhile any regrets not buying a vmount VB99 type battery or happy with NPF?
Hey! NO! I used it for a few days a Vmount and it’s extremely big, heavy, and uncomfortable + expensive.
Happy to help :) Thank you!
Nice. What is the name of the bag, you show in this video where the rig fits ready to go?
Hey. That bag is not in production anymore but here is another one, wit the same size: amzn.to/3Uvbsqc
can i fit the A73 ? on that cage ? thanks for video
Hey! No! But you can buy a cage dedicated for A73. You can find on smallrig site. The rest are the same. Just buy the proper cage and build it :)
Thank you for the useful informations! 👍
🤗 I am happy to help and share infos with you! 🤗
Dear Gabriel, is this setup also good for the Sony ZVE-10 ? Thank you 😊
@@GabrielVIP great! Thank you Gabriel 👍🏻😊
Do you have to start sound recording on the zoom recorder before you stat recording or can recording on the camera trigger the recording to the zoom?
You need to start the recording on the Zoom, but it’s a small price to pay for 32 bits float. For me It’s more important to have a good sound than just to press a button. But you can plug a 3,5 mm jack from zoom to camera and record in camera with the limiter applied from the zoom.
Hello! How were you able to attach the cold shoe to the arri locating mount on the top handle? I was inspired by this rig and made a similar rig but I couldn't attach the cold shoe to the top handle with the screws it came with : ( any advice?
Hey! I use a small adaptor from the big thread to a normal thread. You can find it on the Smallrig website.
@GabrielVIP Great video! But what's your bag? It's not in the equipment list.
Hello! Thank you! This is the bag: geni.us/dBICR
i love the video this is truly a perfect camera rig I'm just wondering if you do a video on the audio recorder and how do you use it with your camera? and that kind of stuff always wanted to get a crispy audio but I didn't know about the method you just showed
So my question is can I use that audio recorder directly to the camera as well? and I still get a crispy audio
@@GabrielVIP Thank you! I have a similar rig like yours but with the FX30, yours was the main inspiration :)
Glad to hear it. FX30 it’s a super camera :)
Can a matte box be added to this rig
Hey! Yeah. You can mount a ton of things on the lens directly or to the rods. It depends on your Matte Box.
Hi excellent set up. Can you recommend a bag for this rig and a tripod. Many thanks
Hey bro! Glad you like it and happy to help :)
This is the bag: geni.us/dBICR
Can you get audio in the Zoom F3 and the Canon R7 Camera at the same time?
Hey! Yes! You can add a 3.5 mm jack from the line out and connect it to the camera. The audio it's excellent but the camera won't record 32 bit float. You will have 32 bit float just in F3.
This is a perfect rig
Thank you! Glad you like it!
That bag is not in production anymore but here is another one, with the same size: amzn.to/3Uvbsqc
Thank you!
Can something similar to this be done for the Sony ZV-E10 I wonder...my only concern is the lost access to the touch screen of the camera
Thanks for sharing this amazing setup. What brand or model is the video bag?
Hello! This is the bag: geni.us/dBICR

Doesn't the microphone catch the cooling fans from the monitor?
Hello. Nope, PT6 does not have fans :) Is 100% quiet :)
Where is your camera rig bag from ?
Hey. That bag is not in production anymore but here is another one, wit the same size: amzn.to/3Uvbsqc
how many feet of cable-1 ft?
Yeah! Something like that. Mine is 1ft 🙋🏻♂️
If you use the like out and record in camera, you won’t benefit from the 32-bit float because the camera can’t record 32-bit floats
This is why I use the recording from the micro SD card :)
I have beel loking fot an angle mic cable like you use. Can you please share what kind of cable it is/where to get it ?
Hi brother, what carrying bag do you use? I like the large spade with padding.
Hello! This is the bag: geni.us/dBICR
Do you find the Zoom F3 better than say the Sony XLR handle?
It depends! If you want 100% to record in camera, go with the handle. If you don’t mind to sync the audio use the F3. The quality of F3 is incredible. I like it because I can use it on my rig, in my studio, on my desk… the versatility is tremendous.
Great little video 👌🏽
Thank you! Glad you like it 🤗
How are you powering the Zoom F3? AA or NP-F adapter USB?
Hello. Most of the time AA. It lasts for an e tire day and I forget about the F3. But you can power it with USB C super easy.
Is there a similar cage for the fx3/fx30 ? I like this set up with the f3 for great audio
Yes! Search on Smallrig website or Tilta, Nitze, they have super good cages for FX3. Just need to be a little creative and search for the right adaptors and mounts. 🙋🏻♂️🤗
What camera bag do you use?
Hello :) The bag is: Fancier WB-HDC777 - I hope it will help you.
What bag is that?
Hey! This is the bag: geni.us/dBICR
Awesome rig! Thanks for the inspiration. I’m looking for a bag that I can fit my built rig in (or at least partially built). What bag is that? And what bag do you recommend?
Hello! Glad you like it 😀 The bag is: Fancier WB-HDC777 - This is what I use and I like it :)
Where is the bag from?
Hello! This is the bag: geni.us/dBICR
Can the Zoom F3 be connected to the camera via the mini jack port (microphone interface)? Does Zoom have phantom power?
@@GabrielVIP Thanks 🙂
It still seems like using the f3 and connecting to mic jack has versatility advantages over the handle no? The handle is also only 24 bit so you would have (24 bit?) internal audio from the F3 while also being able to use it for studio and other applications off camera
So you can use the F3 via mic jack to record internal audio on camera and also have 32 bit external recording on F3? Did I understand that correctly. If so that makes it an easy choice over the handle
The camera will record 16 bits to the 3.5 mm jack but if you set the right gain the sound will be perfect.
Awesome🎉the float can be triggered start stop w shutter or record button on camera?Thank You
Hey. No! If you want, you can plug a 3.5mm jack fron the zoom line out to camera jack and record in camera a super good sound from the recorder, but in the zoom, 33 bit float, you need to press record.
NICE SETUP!!! How do you record audio? Do you need to press record each time on the ZOOM unit time or can record direct via 3.5mm jack?
You can connect a cable from the F3 to the camera but your camera can’t record 32 bits float. So, if you want 32 bits, you need to press record on the Zoom recorder 😀
Thanks for the confirmation about the recording bro :)
What kind of bag is that?
Hello! This is the bag: geni.us/dBICR

Is it possible to use this NP F smallrig, if the Type C port is not available, through a monitor with an Np F battery?
Can you explain a little bit more? Which Type C port is not available? The one from the plate? The camera? Explain a little bit of the entire setup pls and I will try to find the best option for you :)
@@GabrielVIP The USB C port on the camera itself is occupied by an SSD drive installed there. Therefore, is it possible to supply power to the camera itself, if the battery is not inside the camera, from an NPF battery that is installed on an external monitor?
@@masterfangeek6689 I understand now. No! You need to use a battery or a dummy battery. With a dummy battery you can power your camera from that NPF.

Salut! Mercy frumos! 🙏
Yes. But is it perfectly balanced?
Hey! Yes! When you hold it by the handle, the rig is perfectly balanced :)
So you find the workflow tiresome offloading sound and syncing?
Hey bro! NO! It’s easy to sync in post and I prefere to spend frew minutes to do that but have a good sound. It’s a nightmare for me to deliver bad sound for my clients 😁
@@GabrielVIP same
one problem I see with this....if you are going to shoot 30 videos 1minute to 10 minutes in length each...when you sync in post it is like putting a puzzle together...I see that the GH7 records 32 bit....but for Sony shooters...32 bit is not an option if you are going out on a shoot and doing a bunch of videos over the course of a few hours...syncing in post would be a nightmare...
Hello. I am used to it, and I move super fast to sync but yes, it's an extra step. If you want, you can connect the line out from the F3 to the camera and record super good sound but it's not going to be 32 bit in camera. But you will use the internal F3 recording just if you have problems.
