- Doctor Who's new trailer revealed a number of new things, so I thought I'd break it down and speculate on just what it might all mean!

I've basically just removed the Twelfth Doctor's regeneration and everything after it away from canon, replacing it with my Doctor Who that I've done on my channel
“Wild Blue Yonder” is likely a reference to the Tardis itself, so I agree it probably is more character driven based on some additional Doctor.
It's not
In one of the teasers started with a voice saying _"this is the edge of creation"_ and Edge of Destruction was the first story to be set solely inside the Tardis so I think that's what will happen in Wild Blue Yonder.
Also another one began with _"these are the rules of the game"_ which is a line from the Celestial Toymaker in his original appearance so I think it's pretty much confirmed that's who Neil Patrick Harris is playing.
And the first one began with a Venus fly trap eating a fly for some reason-

Maybe that’s how they might bring a doctor back and why there’s no footage at all. Because it’s all set on a sound stage.
"The Giggle is such an interesting title for episode 3. Although for some reason I've heard people online get mad at it. Like, it's just a title, is it really worth getting angry over? Episode titles don't mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things, they've never been indications of quality and barely even matter to the bigger picture." - A dude I just watched 5 minutes earlier spend a minute and a half complaining about stock time vortex footage used in A TRAILER. XD

I like the title "The Giggle", because in the trailer, the doctor says "He's laughing! At the entire human race!" and "He's giggling in your mind!"

14 is 10, pretty much. like sure, the doctor's experiences have changed so his perspectives will have, to some degree.. but this is the doctor going back to a previous configuration. And I think it's directly about how he said goodbye to the fam. A proper goodbye, mutually agreed upon, with proper closure. We have an idea why the doctor ends up with a particular "face". Some of them are random, but some of them, it's the doctor "reminding himself" of something. He just saw gallifrey fall, again. He just saw the entire universe burn and he brought it back. He met the embodiment of time itself, and received praise. He beat the master even though he *was* the master. he's reminding himself of what happens if he gets too arrogant, he's reminding himself of the great losses he has experienced, and he's reminding himself how rare it can be to actually get to say goodbye to his companions. Now, perhaps the tardis itself also nudged things along, because he doesn't know one of the first things he'll do is bump into Donna. But the tardis does. The tardis knows Donna's about to land face first into the kind of trouble the doctor deals with, and the tardis probably thinks it's an opportunity to capitalise on that closure by nudging towards that face, that personality. Sorry Harbo, but we're definitely getting a proper goodbye even if it costs Donna her life.
14 isn't 10. 14th doctor chose the face of the tenth doctor because he has some unfinished business. Listen to what he said in the beginning of the trailer - "Why did I chose this face? To say goodbye?".
Also don't forget what the curator said to the Eleventh doctor in Day of the Doctor -
11th doctor: I never forget a face!
Curator: I know you don't! And in years to come, you'll find yourself revisiting some of the old...but favourites!
This was then revealed in the final episode of the 13th doctor when The Master hijacked her body for the regenerations that she stood on the edge of nothingness leading to the end of her and the beginning of the new regenerated doctor and she saw the first doctor, fifth doctor, sixth doctor, seventh doctor and eighth doctor as manifistations of her consciousness.
When she did get her body back from The Master, she ended up regenerating into the fourteenth incarnation, which we all thought was going to be Ncuti Gatwa's doctor, but RTD pulled a curveball and had fourteen regenerate and choose the tenth doctor's face which was why he went "I recognise these teeth!" (reference to the "New teeth, that's weird!").
Not forgetting as well, this isn't the first time that The Doctor has chosen a face. Sixth doctor chose the face of Commander Maxil (who was also played by Colin Baker) who tried to kill the fifth doctor. The twelfth doctor chose his face from the person he saved in Pompeii - Lobus Caecilius and now the fourteenth doctor chose the tenth doctor's face.
@@GenGamesUniverse you can say 10 and 14 aren't the same all you like but there is always the fundamental issue of *yes they are*. right down at the bottom of everything, the core identity is.. They are both still the same person, the Doctor. And it's not just a similar face, even right down to the teeth, it's *the same teeth*. And you can't replicate to that level without raising the question of whether it's the same person. 14 and 10 are both not the same, and the same. That's why the doctor picks up old habits (same hairstyle, same catchphrases), because to some degree, he is the same. Same face, same personality.. the differences come in the amount of time and experience that have passed since he last wore that face. Billions of years. (Heaven Sent/Hell Bent). He is a different self, placed into the body and personality of a previous version of himself. It is 10's face, 10's personality. But he is different, he *is* 14. He is not who he was when he first wore this face. And I expect we will see those differences shine in these specials... but the marks and scars and legacy of 10 will also be apparent. 10 will show through, but he will ultimately be a different doctor than 10.
I'm absolutely PRAYING that this set of specials is a meta-commentary on fandom and nostalgia. It's the only circumstance I can imagine in which I wouldn't have at least some reservations about this extremely heavy 2000s return.

I completely disagree. If there is metacommentary, I hope it's subtextual at best - as in, you really have to squint. Metacommentary can be great when done well, but the last thing Doctor Who needs right now is to start talking about itself.
@@dublinjake Oh to be clear I'm absolutely talking about subtext. I'm not expecting an episode of Doctor Who that's literally About Doctor Who, I just mean I hope they use the plot well in a way that says something about the show.
Of all the Doctors, David Tennant makes the most sense the bring back since the show was by far at its most popular during his run
Yeah but then they should've brought back Ten, not create a Ten stand-in with his own actual incarnation number!
It could've been a never-before scene adventure with Ten and Donna during their travels mixed with other TARDIS teams to celebrate the show.

Most importantly he was brought back because Gatwa was busy with the Barbie movie. It was David Tennant (who's always willing to play in Doctor Who it seems), casting someone else altogether or not having any specials for this occasion at all

I don't think I agree. You said fans would rather Donna just died (10:28) , I think they were mostly concerned with her losing her autonomy and her character growth and her losing her memories felt cheap. And, personally, I think killing her off would too. I wouldn't mind if 14 sacrifices himself so she can keep them, that would be a great cost but I don't think her sacrificing any more would really fix the problem of her losing her character growth bc she already made a sacrifice.
What are your thoughts on Matt Smith or Peter Capaldi possibly being involved? I noticed Rachel Talalay deleted a tweet about her being with Capaldi around the time filming began on her episode, so of course rumors are strong. Although personally I hope you're right about Ncuti showing up in time travel shenanigans, that would be spicy.

While I don’t think a multi-doctor story is necessary for an anniversary special, it would be cool to see them again
I think bringing back Capaldi would make the most sense of all the doctors. The fact that the 12th doctor took on the face of a character from his adventures with Donna could be nicely tied in with the Doctor Donna reunion. Perhaps, biologically, something has been trying to push the pair back together ever since the end of 11's run, and 12's face was part of this subconscious process. Even 13, as a female timelord, might be symbolic in this way since Donna, as a woman, became part timelord at the end of series 4...
Well Capaldi said multiple times in the past that he doesn't want to do a multi-doctor story because he doesn't want his Doctor to be reduced to the role of current Doctor's companion; he also said that he's generally reluctant to return because he considers his role complete

@@xGOKOPx Seeing the role as complete I can respect. Seeing his Doctor reduced to a companion? Sorry, when has a doctor ever felt like a companion in a multi-doctor story. Obviously, they aren't the main character but it's not like they're following the current doctors lead.

I’ve always wanted a Doctor to regenerate right in the middle of a story. Hopefully that’s what episode 3 is 🤞
Just imagine... The Doctor and Donna have one last emotional goodbye. He holds her hand as her brain is fried. But then... a familiar golden energy begins to course over her lifeless body. The Doctor recoils in disbelief, exclaiming his trademark, "What?! What?!"
Then the energy dissipates as a confused Ncuti Gatwa demands to know what the Hell is going on.
The Doctor gives one last "What?" before the end credits roll.
In regards to Donna and the Doctors regeneration, I have a gut feeling that I kinda don't want to happen haha
I feel like the Toymakers manipulation may mean that Donnas memories don't burn up her brain and kill her during the specials, however once the Toymaker is defeated that will wear off and she would be quickly struck with her mind burning up as all of that has built up whilst she was out adventuring. Ultimately resulting in her death, it all happening too fast that the Doctor is hopeless and can do nothing to help. I think then seeing this person who he put into harms way originally, and then thought that he had saved, only for her to be thrust into everything again because the Toymaker wanted to harm the Doctor, ending in her death, would become too much, he's riddled with guilt over it all being his fault, eventually choosing that he wants to go this time.
Like I said I do not want this to happen, I just have a gut feeling Donna will die
Always appreciate this well thought out commentary. Very cautiously excited for these specials... Will I eat up fan service? Yes. Do I want DW and RTD to move on and make something new (and also good lol)? Yes yes yes
While I understand how cautious you are about Tennant coming back, I think Davies can pull it off and do a good job

I think will be a lot of character-driven moments between 14 and donna in wild blue yonder, with her confronting him over wiping her memory. And since this is after the whole 12/clara memory debacle, and then 12 deciding not to wipe bill's memory in the pilot, I think theres a lot of opportunity for that, maybe with 14 righting the wrongs or at least apologizing for it

You mention footage in the trailer of Donna "Wondering if the Doctor has this old face again in order to say goodbye". The trouble with that is, Donna wouldn't know that he'd already been through several regenerations since they last met.

I was never a huge fan of David Tennant's Doctor, but after the trail of destruction that Chibnall left, I understand why RTD has brought Tennant back. Arguably, Tennant is the most popular incarnation and RTD is counting on that to bring back fans and also increase general viewer numbers.
I saw the 10th Doctor shortly after graduating from university.

U do know that they will not share the new titles and music... the reason the 50th start titles hit as hard as they did was cos we didn't know that's what they were going to... RTD pretty much confirmed it's just a placement... they clearly will leave the music and vortex for the actual eps...

I believe that these three specials will be an homage to both the classic series but especially the modern one. I have a feeling that they will be structured in such a way as to be similar to the 2010 specials, even the theme song I believe will be similar to that of 2010. the glue of the episodes will be the Toy Maker which I believe will appear in all three specials. Wild blue Yonder is the episode I'm most curious about, I think you're right we haven't seen anything from the episode in this trailer, but I think we've already seen something and that something is Ncuti. I think in the second special which I think will air on November 23rd we will see The Doctor switching back and forth between Ncuti and Tennant and hopefully Smith and other Doctors as well. Having Donna die is something I honestly don't like so I hope it doesn't happen, as far as regeneration goes I think I'm one of the few who doesn't want to see it. I'd like the episode to end with 14th leaving with the Tardis and then see at the beginning of the Christmas special Ncuti wearing 14th's clothes changing because he doesn't like those clothes anymore. In the end I think that when the 15th Doctor era begins the series will be very different from both the classic and the modern, always remaining true to the heart of Doctor Who

If anything the star beast should have had the Tom baker tunnel vortex as a nod too the comic featuring the 4th doctor
When I saw the trailer I had mixed feelings. When I see the 2000’s vortex, the series four cast and the old music it makes me feel there is a lack of new ideas being presented. It makes me feel like memberberries are being shoved in my face. Now of course like you said this is likely all a deception and it’s banking on people’s nolstagia of the era to be a commentary on nolstagia.
Personal feelings I have quite a bit dislike when media uses nolstagia and memberberries to try and hook me. As I said above it makes me feel there is a lack of ideas being presented and it makes it feel like a cash grab. Doctor Who though is one of those shows where I will allow it because it’s baked into the show and is a good chance to have fun, poke out some quirks of those eras and look to the future.

I have been super excited for the 60th for a while now. The fact that Tennant is back is nice, but that is not why I am excited. I am excited for RTD to come back after the Chibnall era. Doctor Who is one of my favorite series of all time, but Series 11 literally made me atop watching or caring about it at all for 4 to 5 years. Now I'm back full force and even speeding through the Chibnall era, so I am really excited to see where the show goes from here!

My personal preference would be that David Tennant's Doctor wakes up and says "Wow, what a terrible dream!" and then continues as if none of the other series had happened, but that said I know that won't happen (and also I'm being hyperbolic because this is a comment on UA-cam) and so I just hope that they get back to Doctor Who just being fun again...
Also, to reiterate: I was being hyperbolic, there's plenty I like from all the seasons (accept the Chibnal era, no offence Jodie.).

All I am hoping is it kind of de-numbers Tennant's return so that Gatwa actually does end up as the 14th Doctor rather than the 15th because honestly I want hom to have his moment. He is the future. He is next. He will hopefully have a full tenure. Like how John Hurt wasn't numbered and is just called The War Doctor despite him coming between to numbered incarnations. I hope we get that for Tennant 2.0 so that Jodie can stay as 13 and Ncuti Gatwa can be 14. I hope we do get the reveal that tje Celestial Toymaker is the one responsible for all of this a d for the Doctor having an old face so then that Doctor can be called somwthing like The Toy Doctor or The Celestial Doctor instead of having a number. It is just for me the thing that annoyed me most about Tennant coming back. When Ncuti came back it felt exciting and I was all for it and i assumed he was 14 and that was it and thwn when Tennant was announced to be back I thought it would be a crossover multi Doctor story like the 50th but when they offically had Jodie regenerate back into Tennant and they announced him as the 14th Doctor i was not happy. So I really hope the end result of the specials is the Tennant 2.0 Doctor is de-numbered and Ncuti Gatwa is properly introduced as the ACTUAL 14th Doctor because to me in my mind he is the 14th Doctor.

Ncuti's Doctor COULD be stuck in that nether-region where the Jodie Doctor ended up after the Master had taken over her body. Gives another lazy way of including some old regenerations into the 60th Specials.

She wasn't. Canonically the 10th Doctor and River only met a couple of times. She referenced those times in Silence in the Library like the picnic in Asgard

To be fair it was said that the Doctor will revisit "a few faces" with his regeneration cycle. So this has been hinted as a possibility before, and it's not like they're just bringing Tennant back for nostalgia. Honestly either way I'm glad they did it simply because it's better for the show to revive itself using nostalgia rather than it being cancelled and being revived in another 20 years or something stupid.
It's likely the writers saw an opportunity to bring back the most beloved Doctor and companion to bring old fans back along and move on from the 13th Doctor entirely. Despite your opinions on the 13th Doctor, or on them using fan service to get views, it's best for them to bring old fans back rather than them cancelling really.
i dont mind them playing it safe and using whats popular for the 60th because series 14 is where theyll start innovating

Have you considered the possibility that the Toy Maker could literally be bringing toys to life, so Beep is infact the first stage of bringing toys to life.. hence Neil Patrick Harris's strange worship me pose in the trailer?

Hmmmmmmm. If Donna does die, how about this. She can no longer hold back her memories, and neither can the Doctor. She is slowly becoming the Doctor Donna again, but obviously she won't last. The Doctor, not willing to see her completely die-through some sort of Time Lord business-incorporates her "soul," her very essence, into himself, and this is when he regenerates into Ncuti Gatwa..... Is that completely idiotic? 😂 Maybe the character of the Doctor has had enough mucking about with from the previous era.
When you mentioned that your channel is dead I remembered how I, a random viewer used to binge watch your videos until you didn't pick up the rest of the torchwood seasons and started making videos about later DW seasons I couldn't even stand to watch xd

Honestly I grew up with Smith, but I do see the good in bringing back 10.
Heck, it even makes some degree of thematic sense after 13 who very probably should be having an identity crisis and had a lot of repressed regret at the end of her run, so her regenerating into "The Man who Regrets" does make thematic sense.
I feel the story of the 14th Doctor will be learning to let go of his regrets and sins, the biggest regret/sin being what he did with Donna as 10
Heck, if the Toymaker is the reason 13 regenerated into 10's Face again, it could be because he saw a desire in the Doctor to return to the "Simpler times", where she didn't have to worry about being the Timeless Child or having Gallifrey ripped from her again.
The Toymaker would turn her into 10 to exemplify that there is no escaping those parts of them.

i think it would be absolutely amazing and hilarious if they brought back the tenth doctor.
it would be the absolute easiest since david tennant is already there, though making him look younger might get tricky.
it would also just be hilarious if the tenth and fourteenth doctors interacted.
Credit where credit is due, this marketing push is way more than was managed for chibnall's era. It's getting the push it needs and deserves
I saw Doctor Who after finding David Tennant in Good Omens, so I'm biased, but cliched as it sounds, I lost interest after Capaldi. I'm neither white nor a woman, and perhaps the new diversity of the Time Lords could have worked too, because I don't recall feeling so strongly about it till I saw Jodie, but I think the character has got lost in translation - also why as a writer I think they got David Tennant back - to remind people who the Doctor is, to wash the palette clean of Jodie, so to say. I'd probably have preferred Jodie Comer to Jodie Whittaker. But moves like this are tricky and they fumbled it. Now I'm not really interested in the series altogether.
Tennant I'll watch because I'll watch anything Tennant, even if it is Doctor Who, and I'll probably watch other Ncuti Gatwa stuff (though he doesn't seem to have made stuff that would appeal to grown ups yet - I'm not the oooo sex, and college kids drama type), but I'm not at all interested in the Doctor Who. Chibnall has written it to a dead end. The character is broken. Walking back from the diversity will be good for the show, but wrong for real world implications. Sticking with the diversity makes it a new character from what I fell in love with. And given their lack fo commitment to preserve beloved characters, doesn't feel worth the investment to learn to like a new one.
I'm using the specials as an offboarding opportunity. It was a show I enjoyed, and now time for nostalgia and wave bye bye.
