Tour of our new LandCruiser 78 Troop Carrier! (Tom's Worldcruiser 1)

- People keep requesting a video tour of our Troopy. Well here it is...
We wanted one of these when we started our drive around the world over 6 years ago. Unfortunately, we were still in the US where they are illegal and did not understand the logistics of purchasing one in a foreign country back then. Instead, we ended up building up an ambulance, which was too big for our long term needs. That lasted one year. Then we switched to our 2003 LandCruiser 100, which was amazing and comfortable, but we only intended to use it for Latin America. We always planned on eventually purchasing a Troopy for Africa and Asia once our Latin America adventure was complete.
These expedition vehicles are extremely expensive new (for us) and are very hard to find used with low miles. So, even though it was located in the UK while we were touring Ecuador, we jumped on the chance to buy this when it appeared on the Overland Classifieds. We may have not finished our tour of South America, but we felt like we couldn't pass up this opportunity (we'll be back soon).
We had to fly back to Ecuador for a couple months after the purchase to sell our 100 series, so we didn't have a chance to make an initial walk around video.
Now that we've returned to the Troopy and have been living in it for a week, we can give a basic short tour. The weather has been awful, but a break in the weather gave us a window just long enough to film this.
After we visit Tom's Worldcruiser in Germany to add another seat and we get some experience in Moroccan dirt, we'll update with another video.

It's definitely different, and way too expensive. We've spent our previous years traveling all over Europe and Asia. WE can't wait to enter Africa!
Also can’t wait to see the 3rd seat swap. We were almost leaning toward a 110 for the seating / doors.
I used to want one of those but the reliability kills it for me. One thing that is nice about this one is that door you can hop in the back by opening the single rear door.

We'll keep an eye out for one. When we gontje the manufacturer, I'll ask Tom if he know of any better resources for finding used ones. New ones are crazy expensive.
That would be awesome. We might end up just getting a new one in UAE or something and put an Alucab roof on it… 🤷🏻♂️.

Nice troopy I’ve got a 96 in the USA I’ve been using and working thru to get ready for the big trip. Three people in a troopy is a challenge I’ve faced same thing for the last year. My daughter is off to college this year so her seat is coming out for more space everyone likes the troopy but her
It is tight with three people for sure, but we all love it! We're in the process of getting the third seat installed and we know our son will continue to do trips with us when he starts his own life. But boy will it free up space with having just the two of us!

Our Jackets go int pouches, but everything else goes into our Patagonia Black hole carry on bags. WE put them in the front seats when we set up camp. When we rent a house, we just grab them and bring them in. We so can't wait until you retire and join us!😉
great car but bad decision for choosing toms. Or is it payed advertising?
We aren't being paid by Toms. We chose Toms because they have been making these vehicles for decades. Having built houses and vehicles for year, we like the thought and experience that went into the design of these. I can't imagine how long it would take us to design and manufacture this thing ourselves.
@@bronsonmills3772 Yes he has experience. But the point which i want to say is, no one with self worth in germany buy from him. Many people have bad experience with the product and after sales. I hope for you that he helps you if you have any kind of problems with the car. And be aware, if you say anything negatives in public about toms fahrzeugtechnik you will need a lawyer because he open lawsuits. Do you know the german "Buschtaxi-Forum", there are a lot of experiences with this company.
Buut, have fun with your car. Its still cool :D
