Most of the competitors were just elegant...nothing else, just elegance. If they were to score them based on their talent and everything I'm sure skaters like Tonya, Surya would have had a fair chance of accomplishing something amongst these crowds.

It didn’t earn her a medal. It just held her high enough so she could hang on by a medal. Half of the skaters in the final group dropped in their placements due to poor free skates. Only Harding, Ito, Yamaguchi moved up. Harding moved up a lot but she screwed up the short program which pulled her chances of medal
She was great for the first 65 seconds or so.

Lol. Compared to the other skaters it wasn’t half bad. The edge work though… so much stability, she could teach an elephant to stand on a tightrope.
her outfits were always really beautiful, and she surely makes ice skating seem effortless, but overall she's kinda boring. oksana baiul, tonya harding and surya bonaly were much more interesting skaters, just to mention a few
Oksana never skated a clean Free Program. She should've never beaten her in 94".
I swear, their choices of music is puzzling to me. She's dressed so elegantly yet the music doesn't reflect that. It's almost like she should be on a track suit.

It's not about how fast someone skates though. Just think of it this way,the flaws can be seen better if they are slower and also judged better because they are seen more,if that makes sense?

It's true, it's not a speed skating contest. Skaters must skate accordingly to the type of music as well. However, to be fair, Mike W's comment was "her spins and jumps". Yes, they are slower than Tonya's. Just naturally Tonya was born a more powerful skater and athlete than Nancy.
They were competitors, very sad story for both.

At this event, every skater that finished in the top 5 had a fall or major error.
She had 4 clean triples and a hand down on the fifth one. Others had more major mistakes.. that’s pretty much it.. Harding biffed her triple axel and her program lacked in many areas, Bonaly also had falls, etc..

@@RandomGuy4087 The 92 albertville olympics was far superior technically to the 88 calgary olympics in ladies skating, especially the long program. Midori with her 88 calgary olympics electrifying long program, started a change in ladies skating from ice capades type artistry to power skating. When Midori landed the 1st ladies triple axel at the 88 NHK trophy and then again at the 89 worlds, the game changed. All the ladies had to up their technical content to compete. Hence the falls at the 92 albertville olympics where the ladies were trying far more difficult jumps, some that they were not proficient enough at to complete them consistently. Just to compete with Midori and then Tonya.
I have no bias either way but there’s a lot of nasty comments on here that are personal toward Nancy Kerrigan and I think she gets a bad rap most of the time.....
It's absolutely ridiculous. People came around on Tonya only to pin the target on Nancy. Just unnecessary and cruel.
Despite public opinion on Tonya regarding the "attack", Nancy never showcased herself as a sympathetic figure. She gets her reputation from a chilly ice presence, evident from her performances which her coaches attempted to choreograph her in this style, as well as her interviews that made her come across as snobbish and ungrateful.
Tonya might have been trashy but she wore her heart and personality on her sleeve.
Well for example her performance here was atrocious but she still has gets the marks.

Nancy revealed herself to be a spoiled bitch unfortunately. Her behaviour after winning only silver at at the 94 games was petty, childish and unsporting

she at least landed 4 kinds of triples except 3Lz,which is decent and had good posture and edges.also she performed her SP clean.

She failed a lot of jumps though. She’s graceful and elegant but I was expecting more since she’s seen as a good skater.
I don’t see why most people complain about Kerrigan getting a bronze for this performance. Certainly other skaters have gotten bronze and people just assume to accept this placement.
Tonya Harding I don’t think most skaters complain for example when this Figure Skater Shizuka Arakawa placed Third while Sasha placed second and Mao placed first in one world figure skating competition. So what are your thoughts?
@@itsallgoodman1244 You do know the reason 1994 was controversial is most people feel Nancy was robbed of the gold that year don't you? I don't neccessarily even feel that way, but just clarifying you do realize if there was any controversy over that competition it was that. It was total opposite to 1992 where many thought Nancy was given a gift to even get bronze, in 94 most felt she was robbed of gold.
@@itsallgoodman1244 That is not the point here. You clearly don’t see the issue about Nancy Kerrigan and that includes the efforts she put to her skating. She’s not a weak contender and she’s not really the competitor of Tonya Harding Tonya Harding made her into the type of person she is. Too much attention was made on Nancy while attempting to stigmatize her because of the way she was portrayed by the media. This is what I called the media attempt to bully Nancy Kerrigan without hearing her side of the story. This is not an attempt to ostracize Tonya Harding‘s skating though she does have some weakness in the way the media handled the Tonya/ Nancy incident.
It's only because the Tonya fans can't handle Nancy scoring above Tanya!

So her and Tonya both fell, yet Nancy got the bronze...what the actual fuck. Tonya's program was still so much better and this is one of the most boring things I've ever seen. Nancy herself looked bored doing it. Her choreographer should have been fired. Not that Tonya's performance was stellar, but she at least looked like she wanted to be there, and her other jumps were still good.
Tonya got a deduction for not landing the triple axel...kind of insane she fell on a harder jump the other skaters didn’t even try and got a deduction.
@@phantomoftheoperatic1753 fr that’s why the 6.0 system doesn’t work anymore, but now we have the problem of skaters trying super hard jumps and failing but getting much higher marks than skaters who skate a clean and easier program
Nancy did better in the short program and was in second place,Tanya was in 5th I believe. Neither girl had a perfect skate,nor did the the others in the top. All had flawed performances and when you add up the points,Nancy dropped to third. If Tanya had had a better short program and didn't fall in the long she probably would have medaled.
Kerrigan was placed 2nd in the SP so she was already a mile ahead of Harding, who was placed 6th behind Hubert, Bonaly, and Ito. If Harding wanted to take home the Bronze medal she would need to be placed in 2nd, ahead of Ito and Kerrigan. To me that sounds impossible, even if she was placed 3rd in the LP, she wouldn’t have a medal.
None of the top skaters had a clean program! They all fell!
You can see Kristi playing with her hair at the 1:20 mark.... She also changed her program, substituting a 3T for her 3S which resulted in a "touch down" on the ice. Rule: Keep to the program, do not switch things around. I've been there.

Beautiful dress. Clunky choreography. A lot of the same poses we'd see in Lillehammer. I'd love to see what she could have done with different and more interesting choreography.
Am I seeing this correctly? She popped at least two triple jumps and had a touch down on another - yet she wins the bronze? Honestly, was this better than Tonya's (who I know didn't skate all that well either)? Give me a true comparison - somebody, please!!!

Funny how everyone picks on Nancy just because she scored better than Tonya! Tonya did not skate well at all. Nancy's short program was better executed than Tonyas and both had problems in the long program.
They liked her contrived ‘artistry’ just was lackluster to watch compared to Tonya or Midori but they liked it
@Candy Jones Tonya was a power skater. Tonya was ranked by Scott Hamilton as the #2 technical skater in the world behind Midori at the 92 Albertville olympics. With Midori's electrifying Long Program at the 88 Calgary olympics, she started a change in ladies figure skating from ice capades type artistry skating to power skating. Even though Midori was downgraded in artistry marks in her 88 calgary olympics LP, Christopher Dean, of Torvill and Dean, who was doing the olympics commentary for australian TV said Midori's skating was the artistry. The 92 albertville olympics was far superior technically in ladies skating then the 88 calgary olympics. The point is Tonya's skating was her artistry, doing power moves like a triple axel and triple lutz combinations that Nancy could only dream about. When Tonya was on, like at the 91 US nationals and 91 skate america, Nancy and Kristi could not touch her. Only Midori could skate with Tonya and beat her if both skated cleanly.

Beautiful skater, but the best, most interesting skater is Surya Bonaly, that back flip and the flying split on the ice is just great to watch.
Honestly, this is "playing it safe" by the textbook. Nothing special here, just plain elegant boredom. That bronze medal was quite flattering.

Bronze was well deserved. The mistakes in this program didn’t disrupt the overall flow of the choreography too much. The beautiful dress helped as well.

She's not even that graceful, I mean, just compare her to Carolina Kostner. That is my definition of an ice princess, and this is not it. Nancy's constantly making the pose that I call the "come at me bro", and her facial expressions make her look always so pained. Fake, mechanical and dull. Boooring.

I could tell she was pretty nervous during this performance. Her arm movements were a bit choppy and her timing was not all there. Comparing this performance to the one she did two years later is like night and day. Here she was good, but not great. Almost like she was on a leash here, which, although would be great in a bedroom, you do not want on the ice
She won the bronze cause she did a superb short program clearly better than Bonaly , Ito and Harding ! She won also the bronze cause she was bronze medalist at the worlds in 1991 and was US silver medalist in 1992! But she did not deserved this bronze medal here ,unfaired ! She deserved the gold in 1994. Unfaired too !
Who would you have placed over Kerrigan for the bronze though? Especially considering the oridanals system.
I defo would have placed Lu over all the final skaters other than Yama and Ito. But judges play favorites and Kerrigan deserved the bronze here.
@@flightoflightning2505 I agree that most people who have Kerrigan off the podium are not taking into account her strong SP, huge errors of Harding and Ito in the SP. Bonaly in the LP. Chen was buried in the SP
Although I definitely see a case of Harding beating Nancy in the LP here, but Im not sure it would be enough for her to grab a medal.

I don't think this was her best performance by any means, she was very stiff on this one. I've seen others where she's very godo though
Without the flawless makeup and Vera Wang couture Nancy was another boring and stiff ice princess. No flair, no personality, every move so mannered.

Some people seem to only pay attention to technicalities and keep supporting a deranged failed skater we all know about. These would be the people who would trow out the Picassos, the Van Goghs, the Munchs, because they are not as technically accurate or technically challenging to the untrained eye as some photocopied realistic drawing or painting. I pity you for your lack of artistic sensibility. This woman was favored by so many not only because of her love for ice-skating, but her grace, specially when falling, failing and losing, a very fundamental construct and aesthetic needed in sportsmanship, specially Olympics. You can be a robot, you can flip one time more, but you'll never understand what grace is and the beauty of what makes us human, and humble above all, and this girl did. That's why she was loved, and desperate psychopaths and their petty enablers won't change that.
