There was something so magical about her performance. I felt like I've seen her in 3 acts in this free skate and we got to see her in three variations with the last segment being my favorite. To me, it was more artistic and i appreciate that aspect. I kept my eyes glued the whole way!
Had the opportunity to meet Nancy years ago and saw her skate live on several occasions. I attended the performance right before the 94 games after she recovered from the attack. A beautiful, strong, classy woman who was grace personified on the ice. Wishing her, Jerry and the kids all the best.
@jjh2456 The flip at the beginning was a double but it didn't look popped open. There was really no criticism to it other than the fact it wasn't a triple. But it was certainly not an ugly double.

Beautifully skated. Graceful, smooth, nice energy when needed, expressive and soft where needed, technical exuberance where needed. A wonderful performed competitive skate. Don't know what people are talking about when they criticize this.
You have to understand Nancy's previous problems skating in big international competitions and cracking under pressure to appreciate this performance. I'm not a big fan of hers, but she's caught unnecessary flak from trollers since the "I Tonya" movie came out.
It’s sad that before this performance, Nancy always placed because others fell, and the one time she puts on the performance of a lifetime, the gold medal slips away.
@@TarigioShe deserved gold imo. Chen Lu should have been 3rd after the short, Bonaly 2nd and Baiul 4th. Although Lu butchered the 2T combo, it was much less of a deduction than Baiul’s two-footed 3Lz. Furthermore, Baiul should have been 3rd in the FS and Lu 2nd, with Kerrigan capturing the gold.
I’m not crying...you’re crying...I saw this live on TV and all these years later it still inspires me to be my best...to do my best and not give up EVER!!!Thanks Nancy! 🇺🇸
People love a comeback story, especially when it's someone who is a victim like she was. She didn't deserve to be injured, she deserved her Olympic moment that she worked hard for. Was this the best routine? No. Did it deserve gold? No, not in comparison to the others. But do we love to see people overcome adversities? Yes, absolutely. That's the only reason people think she deserved the gold, because despite what happened to her, she still did this, and in front of the world. That is inspirational.
Wrong!!!!!!!!!!!! Nancy Kerrigan outskated Baiul and it wasn't even close. Those 5 commie judges stuck together and made sure Oksana got the gold. She was Ukraine( part of the former Soviet Union) and Nancy was American. There never should have been 5 commie judges on that panel. The Olympic Committee is to blame. Nancy did overcome her adversities and won the gold, but dealing with Communist judges will cheat you every time. Oksana just didn't make the combination jumps like Nancy did. Nancy was spectacular. Oksana was just a cutie pie dancing around to old Broadway tunes. She lacked a lot in the technical part. That is why she lost to Surya Bonaly in the European Championships.
It was a hard thing to judge Nancy, Oksana, and even Tanya were all competing against themselves and what they had overcome to get to their moment. Personally, I felt Oksana more than the others, I liked her come from nothing story and how that was expressed out there on the ice. Nancy kinda has this imperial nature about her and could be a little snippy at times, which is why I liked her. But hey, thanks for expressing yourself!
I think that on the technical part Nancy was way cleaner, but a bit stiff and oksana wasn’t as clean, but had more rhythm and fluidity in her movements.
@@susy379 She did not skate as difficult a program. Degree of difficulty is more important, especially when she skates them without any flaws. Oksana just made too many mistakes. @@susy379 I agree with that. There is more to a program than just the technical part ie jumping. I really haven't watched Nancy Kerrigan before, but she doesn't seem to cover much ice with her jumps. Oksana's in-between skatework seems to be better than Nancy's. And she had more expression too.
I have watched this three times in the last three days. I don’t feel like I enjoy skating as much anymore because when I compare to performances like this…her skating went WITH the music. Now when I watch I feel like they are skating while music is playing. Does anyone else see this difference?

Not saying your one of them, but there are plenty of them, and it is despicable.
@paulmcelroy81 Nancy started skating this long program with incredible peace, which turned into joy as she continued and became total elation at the end of the skate.
Incredibly beautiful performance! Amazing to pull off a silver medal while being in so much physical pain, which she hid so well. She deserved the gold.
What physical pain? She had sustained only bruising in the attack, which had happened over a month before this. Oksana Baiul, by contrast, was skating with twelve stitches in her calf after having it sliced open by a fellow competitor's blade the DAY BEFORE, and had had Olympic-approved painkilling injections just to be able to compete. There's no comparison.
@kirbykipling9515 I clearly stated she suffered bruising. But you are trying to imply that she suffered serious injury. Which she did NOT. Go on and list Nancy's "serious injuries" that had her apparently competing in "so much pain." Go on, list them. I'll wait.
Music background was a Neil Diamond's medley The first song is "Play Me" from Diamond's album "Moods". The second one is "Headed for the future" from Diamond's homonym album. The third one is "Dear father" from Diamond's JLS soundtrack album. The last one, unfortunately, I can't recognize. Kind regards!
I do agree that it was the skate of her life... she struggled so frequently in her long programs. I still prefer Oksana’s unique artistry, but I definitely can see why Nancy was disappointed.
@@bethroesch2156 that’s only true because CBS’s coverage played up 9th judge Jan Hoffmann from Germany as the deciding vote, and yes, in his case it came down to a broken tie with Nancy having a .1 technical edge and Oksana having a .1 artistic edge, and the artistic mark is the tie-breaker. But overall, Oksana did not win on artistry and that’s what makes this decision such a travesty. Artistry is purely a matter of personal taste so I can at least understand those who say Oksana was much better in that area. I don’t agree, I found them both breathtaking artistically. But there was a HUGE difference technically, and Nancy should have had that edge. Artistically they got the same marks overall-six 5.9’s and three 5.8’s. But distributed differently. Three preferred Nancy artistically (Britain, U.S., and Japan), three preferred Oksana artistically (Poland, Canada, and Germany), and three had them tied artistically (Czech Republic, Ukraine, and China). The problem was that those latter three actually put Oksana ahead TECHNICALLY, and there’s ZERO defense for that.
Athletic skating without a doubt but not terribly graceful, which is not necessarily a bad thing, and they made very smart style choices with the music and choreography to suit her strengths. Fun to watch imo. Her jumps and spins consistently have a weird wobble
This was perfection! I remember watching it live back in 94. We were all holding our breath that year because of what was happening and watching Nancy perform this routine at the Olympics was just the best! This is what Olympic moments are made of. I think the entire country was excited for her and to this day I still cry tears of happiness watching how proud she was of her performance. Just the best. Nancy Kerrigan is our Olympic icon! She should have won Gold. I also had the pleasure of meeting her back in 2017 and she is truly a warm hearted and kind person.
Not an icon and she was not the best there. I too was excited to see her skate and hoping for her to win. She was not the gold skater there and she showed such poor sportsmanship towards a kid that fought all odds to win. She was a total wench with her attitude and dirty looks towards a kid that was like 8 years younger than her. I thought Nancy was classy.. till then.
The way she holds her body is so strange. Like her poses are weird looking I don't know if it's our hands or what but it's weird. And the way she holds her mouth. But I think she did do a better job
Anne C nancy has no emotion and poor technical skills theres nothing special or good about her i would rather watch paint dry than watch her skate while evgenia has real emotion, tells a story with her skating, is graceful, and has good technical ability
Not better than Evgenia or Zagitova?? She has proper lutz. Her skating skills are better. Evgenia and Zagitova try to cover up their lack of SS with transitions. But now Evgenia has less transitions because of her body and choreographer, you can see real her
@- Anthony Pffft. Kerrigan had all the artistry of a shopfront mannequin. She took forever to set up a jump, and her spins were also of a lower difficulty level than Baiul's. She doubled her planned triple lutz and she barely hung on to the flip. About the only thing Kerrigan had going for her was a pretty Vera Wang dress.
How this didn't win gold I'll never get. Passion, power, and the only successful triple triple combination. Nancy was hurt by all the media of the attack for the german judge to give her 5.8 for both tech and artistic he knew he could set it up for Oksana who went in to be a drunk.
JogaOhio she didn't win because she lacked emotion. Are you suggesting that Oksana was drunk while skating on the Olympics? Kerrigan is Katarina Witt wannabe but she was never even close to her. She was expecting a gold for two reasons: she is from the US so it makes her better than anybody else and she was attacked so she would get some sympathy points... pathetic. Her reaction to Oksana winning was the most repulsive thing I have ever seen. Also her behaviour during the Ukranian national anthem ... I was spechless. I guess that's what sleeping with a married man while being underage is doing to ones personality.
I was so proud of Nancy's exquisite performance with no mistakes (that I could see) after all of her hard work coming back from her injury. At the time, the judges preferred the flashier and more flamboyant Oksana though. It was sad to see Nancy's reactions then and later on. I wish she had appreciated her silver medal more.
To be fair, there wasn't much of an injury to come back from - she sustained a bruise to her thigh, no more. She was back on the ice within three days and doing full back to back runthroughs of her routine within a week. The biggest injury was probably psychological but she overcame that well. I'm not saying that the attack was OK, of course it wasn't, but the way the press made out that she'd limped onto the ice from her hospital bed to take the silver medal was greatly exaggerated.
@@naturalbby1722 I have...I have seen the change. When younger she did seem spoiled and snobbish. When she married and became a mother she seemed drastically changed. Even the last interview a couple of years back with she and Tonya, she seemed to have let it go and complimented Tonya on her family and new life. She has also complimented Oksana saying her performance was "stunning" and that she was amazing. In time many of us mature.
She had a bruised knee, from which she recovered. Many people don't recall that Oksana Baiul skated with far worse injuries, and rightfully won the Gold.
Ladies 1994 Olympics Free Skate ranking: 1. Kerrigan or Chen, 2. Chen or Kerrigan, 3. Sato, 4. Szewczenko, 5. Bonaly I watched this then and now, and tragedy or not, Nancy skated for herself, as if skating alone on a pond. It was pure joy, regalness, savouring and determination coming from her.
Chanel Oberlin That's called having bad taste. Do you notice how you also get bored when reading classic literature and classic films? Don't worry; it's just bad taste.
@@mtoad Wrong. It's called an opinion. Nancy is technically good, but the artistry and the soul and feeling is missing. That is why I personally got bored. She didn't capture my attention the way other skaters have. Being technically flawless is simply not enough. Different people have different opinions and if you want someone to respect yours, you've got to respect theirs.
mtoad Nancy is beyond stiff. looks like a robot... seems like YOU have bad taste. Oksana is a classic masterpiece while Nancy is a robotic stiff remake.
She could be considered technically perfect I guess, still she missed the opportunity to do a triple in the beginning, therefore her technicality was same as oksana's. On the other hand, her artistry is non existent, let's be real. Oksana deserved gold!
She really was robbed of the gold. Oksana B won the gold but Nancy, in my opinion skated a clean and beautiful program. I think that's why Nancy had such an attitude after that. She skated the best she'd ever done but that wasn't good enough. Where do you go from there. Plus have truly watched all the politics in figure skating. Amazingly corrupt at times.
Silver is still good...I think anyone winning silver feels robbed, not bc they thought they were better, but bc they were so close, and that one extra move from either or could have changed the outcome. So I totally understand the bitterness, but still...having an attitude about winning one of the 3, is immature !
That was as close to a perfect performance as I've ever seen. It's really a shame they didn't judge based on a point system then like they do nowadays. While Oksana won the gold that year, she had a two foot landing that would have killed it for her had the point system been done then. Still I enjoyed both of the girl's performances.
@@211jump by what standard do you claim Oksana to have had a more difficult program? None of her triples were in combination (not even triple/double-her one combination was double/double). Nancy had the only triple/triple combination cleanly landed in the entire competition. Oksana had one spin that was possibly more difficult than any that Nancy did (the doughnut-hole camel spin), but that pales in comparison to the disparity in jumps. Five completed triples to three, and 3 in combination (including triple/triple) to zero. And furthermore, if you’re looking at today’s rules, Nancy’s toughest jump was in the second half of the program whereas Oksana’s was at the beginning so that would have added even more to the technical edge. It needs to be reminded that under the scoring system they had at the time, two-footed jumps were not credited as completed elements, and Oksana two-footed both her triple flip and the triple toe loop she threw in at the end. So both landed Lutz, loop, and Salchow. Neither gets credit for a flip, but Nancy had the two triple toe loops in the combination, while Oksana failed to land any-doubled the first one and two-footed the second. Like it or not, jumps are the bread and butter of the technical marks. Other matters are nitpicky and do not make up for massive disparities in jumps.
Honestly for me,she was better at executing technical contents than Oksana here.Oksana had more jump passes, speed, flow, expression though. But I still can’t find which lady was more suitable for gold medal. It totally depends on member of judges,I guess.
If you watch this program again, you will notice Nancy even pulls off a triple-triple jump combination. In 94 this was practically unheard of. She def found a zone to skate her best between the whack and the Lillehammer Olympics. She only had about 6 weeks to recup and recover not to mention do rehab sev times a day to rebuild strength. Nobody ever talks about the incredible odds she was up against. Nobody would blame her if she didn't medal bc of the physical and emotional damage she went thru after the U.S. Nationals in Detroit. I will give her a big thumbs up for conquering so many different types of demons just to make it this far
The orthopedic surgeon who worked on her and is still the OAC Figure Skating doctor worked at Salem Hospital. I was an OR x-ray tech and had worked with him many times. @@mtoad I agree as well. Nancy is & was always the better skater when it came in comparison to th. I find her style of skating very beautiful.
Insulting a woman with more than one olympic metal... sure sports get better in time but to say she has no soul after having just months to heal and winning anyway? REALLY? incipit? lol bad use of an adjective. Just sayin’ people need to give the girl more cred
your mother
her dress was so beautiful.
Katasylic designed by Vera Wang! It’s absolutely gorgeous!
There was something so magical about her performance. I felt like I've seen her in 3 acts in this free skate and we got to see her in three variations with the last segment being my favorite. To me, it was more artistic and i appreciate that aspect. I kept my eyes glued the whole way!
Excellent comments, Danny. And it seemed to go by so fast, and that's because it was so wonderful, so exceptional!!!
Had the opportunity to meet Nancy years ago and saw her skate live on several occasions. I attended the performance right before the 94 games after she recovered from the attack. A beautiful, strong, classy woman who was grace personified on the ice. Wishing her, Jerry and the kids all the best.
I remember watching this and had chills, her jumps were text book perfect and she looks so ready. Classic at its best!
John Smith except for the flip in the beginning
Jose, it was a great double flip of wonderful quality; it just wasn't a triple.
Exactly
@jjh2456 The flip at the beginning was a double but it didn't look popped open. There was really no criticism to it other than the fact it wasn't a triple. But it was certainly not an ugly double.
It looks like she's having the time of her life here!
It’s the only time I’ve ever seen Nancy skate with her heart and connect with the audience.
Fun fact: the women's skating finals ranks #6 on the most watched sporting event list!
Gorgeous woman-----------beautiful skater, she showed heart & class to come back as she did ! Well done, Nancy .Kerrigan, the entire country was cheering for you ! -----------MJL, 76 y/o
Still is!
That was a wow performance. I remember listening in the states on the radio bc of time zone difference. She skated as if she owned the ice. Brilliant. No regrets, surely. Thanks Nancy.
Beautifully skated. Graceful, smooth, nice energy when needed, expressive and soft where needed, technical exuberance where needed. A wonderful performed competitive skate. Don't know what people are talking about when they criticize this.
Totally agree. Nancy did an amazing job. She was at the top of her game. Wish she had rcvd the gold.
They were deceived by the biased movie I, Tonya that is clearly made to exaggerate Tonya Harding life.
A more complete program than Baiul’s
@@julielabelle2907 how so a more "complete" program than Baiul?? I am American too, but I fail to see your comparison.
@@pattidale7968 I’m Ukrainian American
You have to understand Nancy's previous problems skating in big international competitions and cracking under pressure to appreciate this performance. I'm not a big fan of hers, but she's caught unnecessary flak from trollers since the "I Tonya" movie came out.
It’s sad that before this performance, Nancy always placed because others fell, and the one time she puts on the performance of a lifetime, the gold medal slips away.
She deserved everything….! Two faced she is!
That spin at the end😍♥️😍
Blackis black music
It made Oksana's spin look like a beginner.

I Love how well balanced this Programm is
Yes, bland balances well with vanilla.
That is why Nancy won the short program.
Nancy haters always ignore the lack of mistakes and refuse to acknowledge Oksana's obvious mistakes.
@@susy379 I agree with that. There is more to a program than just the technical part ie jumping. I really haven't watched Nancy Kerrigan before, but she doesn't seem to cover much ice with her jumps. Oksana's in-between skatework seems to be better than Nancy's. And she had more expression too.
beautiful angel of 1994!
I know her skating isn’t the most artistic, but can I say that her outfit is GORGEOUS! I’d really like to see more outfits like hers nowadays!
Her costume was a $20,000 Vera Wang. That's about all she had going for her
it was made by Vera Wang...a famous Bridal Designer....she was a skater also,,,,it would cost a Fortune
I have watched this three times in the last three days. I don’t feel like I enjoy skating as much anymore because when I compare to performances like this…her skating went WITH the music. Now when I watch I feel like they are skating while music is playing. Does anyone else see this difference?
I see the difference and I totally agree with you.
that dress she's wearing is so pretty and sparkly
And 15 000$ I think lol
@@octopusgucci4738 and ???
I was routing for her so much but she got beat by a better skater on the night. Oksana was magical and deserved top spot!
Oksana doesn't have the same maturity as Kerrigan..or overall greatness..
@@belartful girl please. Nancy was a robot that night. No emotion
@@paulmcelroy81 Well that is your opinion. I watched all the skaters that night, and I think Nancy was the best, and it was later discovered Oksana two footed several of her jumps as well. Some people just seem to be obsessed with the whole Nancy/ Tonya thing. To this day, nasty Tonya supporters literally flood any video on UA-cam about Nancy with hateful, cruel, comments about her. Not saying your one of them, but there are plenty of them, and it is despicable.
@@paulmcelroy81 Robots no smile, Nancy felt and smiled at each of her elements. You are blind!!!
Truth nailed.
I'll wait.
@kirbykipling9515 "had she not sustained any injuries we wouldn't be here". Gotcha.
@kirbykipling9515 "We wouldn't be here" is also in there 😀 So you're arguing that she was injured when she wasn't. I mean, that's what you're saying.
I remember my sister being in *love* with Nancy Kerrigan, growing up, and to this day I still don’t see any reason for her popularity
God bless Ms Nancy Kerrigan and to all of the Ice Skaters we love y'all congrats!!!!
Its wild that in the beginning of 94 we had Tonya vs Nancy. Then in June OJ. Wild year 94 was!
She showed her true colors on the podium and with the comments that she made prior.
Music background was a Neil Diamond's medley
The first song is "Play Me" from Diamond's album "Moods". The second one is "Headed for the future" from Diamond's homonym album. The third one is "Dear father" from Diamond's JLS soundtrack album. The last one, unfortunately, I can't recognize. Kind regards!
Nancy skates so beautifully and flawlessly here. Wonderful figure skater.
The skate of her life!!! Flawless
It wasn't flawless, she doubled her first jump which should have been a triple.
I do agree that it was the skate of her life... she struggled so frequently in her long programs. I still prefer Oksana’s unique artistry, but I definitely can see why Nancy was disappointed.
@@corawaller-jacobs8007 that's where Oksana got Nancy, the artistic aspect.
@@ADEAL918 Bingo. Nancy jumps and combinations were superior and clean. VS no triple combo.
Beautiful woman; talented figure skater.
Our family has always admired and adored Nancy and always felt she should of won the GOLD
But we are VERY OPINIONATED!
Great job. Excellent glamorous design of costume. Believes Nancy & staff pushed the styling of costumes beyond her years.
Vera Wang, the designer, was a former figure skater herself and understood what a skating costume needed
This was a gold metal performance. Beautifully skated flawless performance

I'm sorry, but she is so slow and stiff and the routine was empty. Imagine her going against Evgenia or even Zagitova
Anne C nancy has no emotion and poor technical skills theres nothing special or good about her i would rather watch paint dry than watch her skate while evgenia has real emotion, tells a story with her skating, is graceful, and has good technical ability
Zagitova? Junior-like. Not a woman and refined yet.
Not better than Evgenia or Zagitova?? She has proper lutz. Her skating skills are better. Evgenia and Zagitova try to cover up their lack of SS with transitions. But now Evgenia has less transitions because of her body and choreographer, you can see real her
@Anne C i am not even saying anything bad anout Nancy. Are you okay?

Vera Wang, who subsequently designed many beautiful costumes for Michelle Kwan.
That ending was superb
Wow, I don't know why but this particular performance evokes so much emotion. Brava!!
The outfit tho! She's amazing for doing that after such an important injury.
It costs like 15000$
then there is me.. who cant even skate without holding onto the hand railing... 😂😂
How did she not win gold for that performance??
Oxana baiul
@- Anthony Pffft. Kerrigan had all the artistry of a shopfront mannequin. She took forever to set up a jump, and her spins were also of a lower difficulty level than Baiul's. She doubled her planned triple lutz and she barely hung on to the flip. About the only thing Kerrigan had going for her was a pretty Vera Wang dress.
Wow this is a great performance so graceful . I truly loved watching this and will be watching it again and again
One small correction. Nancy was 24 here. Definitely not underage to sleep with anyone.
@@baba-t4q1k yes, Oksana skated with injuries and rightfully won the Gold.

Her performances were always so graceful ❤️😭
Having seen she rolled her eyes at Tonya, I just feel uncomfortable with her big nostrils
Oksana won because she was the better competitor. Nancy's performance was lovely, but her attitude to Oksana was terrible. I'm glad she lost.
She's a beautiful dove❤
That was so beautiful and moving. I didn't want to blink.
She skated to Neil Diamond music. How lovely was that.
It's a performance to look back on and say "THIS is what I brought! ... no matter what!"

Regardless of the result (and I'm still unsure which way it should have gone), this was the skate of an Olympic champion.
I got bored watching this compared to the others
Flawless, it does not get any better than that..Always be my favorite..
Larry 306
Apparently it does get better because she won silver, someone else won gold.
She was robbed, I think they wanted to wipe the deck of her and Tanya
Silver is still good...I think anyone winning silver feels robbed, not bc they thought they were better, but bc they were so close, and that one extra move from either or could have changed the outcome. So I totally understand the bitterness, but still...having an attitude about winning one of the 3, is immature !
That was as close to a perfect performance as I've ever seen. It's really a shame they didn't judge based on a point system then like they do nowadays. While Oksana won the gold that year, she had a two foot landing that would have killed it for her had the point system been done then. Still I enjoyed both of the girl's performances.
I'm sorry? That was Oksana's night all the way.
@@211jump what Oksana make two foot landing and no triple combination
I agree about the point system. It would have been interesting to see the scores under the more detailed and scientific point system of today.
I am such an Oksana fan but I always still wonder and believe that 94 was Nancy's gold!
Honestly for me,she was better at executing technical contents than Oksana here.Oksana had more jump passes, speed, flow, expression though.
But I still can’t find which lady was more suitable for gold medal.
It totally depends on member of judges,I guess.
That was the performance of the night, IMO.
I remember watching this on tv it was wonderful.
Beautiful lady and boy what a skater.
His picture was in ALL the magazines and tabloids, so we plastered the walls with them and when he walked in started cheering and clapping and saying "We're not worthy!". He was so embarrassed his face was beet red! He's such a nice guy and an excellent surgeon!!
By far the best dress of the night and a beautiful skating, I love Oksana, but Nancy was better.
I loved it!
She won bronze in 1992, had only eight months to heal because of a goon, and people say she looks stiff?! She makes it look effortless! That’s is exactly what every sport strives for that has artistic elements. Movie needs to be done about her, not just a parody. You gotta have heart and lots of good mojo to stand in your power after being attacked. Love her! ❤️
She mostly did back crossovers to gain speed for jumps, her program was a bunch of spins, crossovers and jumps. No artistry whatsoever
