As an epileptic in AZ where recreational marijuana was just legalized, I want to thank everyone for their votes towards a more enlightened and healthy society.
as a 17 year old with epilepsy i deeply appreciate this talk. learning about seizures and trying to comprehend what goes on in my brain during them is not only fascinating, but uplifting. knowing that people like jokubas ziburkus are working to find solutions, it motivates me to understand more about my epilepsy. i love how he explained the science behind seizures but also showed how the neurons react in the brain with charts and through drums, which makes it much easier to grasp. im not sure if he will ever get to see this comment, as the video was uploaded in 2015, but i would like to thank him & the people behind this ted talk!
I had him as a Neuroscience professor at the University of Houston! I did not expect to love his class as much as I did. You could see how passionate he was about his research and teaching
The drum piece made me cry. I felt so seen and represented. I have 3 neurological disorders. The seizure one being the most debilitating. Cannabis is my form of treatment since doctors have nothing more to offer. Thank you for this. I came searching for connection, and I found more in this talk than I expected. Thank you. 💗
Just witnessed my younger brother have his 4th seizure in 8 months. He woke up becaise of a sound. When he layed his head back down he started to seize.A loud agonizing moan came out and didn't stop until he lost his breath. the look on his face was horror. you could hear his neurons screaming. When he described neurons as screams it struck a cord. That's exactly what it was. It was only the beginning. He continued to thrash around as i did my best to keep him on his side. Saliva foamed out of his mouth as he gasped through it to breathe. I continuously wiped it away. "breathe buddy your doing great" was all i could say. in vain? it brought my blood pressure down and kept me calm enough to help so no, not in vain. 3 minutes? no, a lifetime. it felt like a lifetime waiting for him to come back to his senses. All the while his eyes rolled back and forth in and out of his head. Finally it was over. the song at the end brought tears to my eyes. If you've ever been so close to epilepsy you can hear that very song.
jessie smart How is your brother now? My son has seizures like that. Medication changes it, but doesn't stop it and has side effects that diminishes his quality of life.
Totally understand where you are! Our sons got more aggressive. Murrays page on Facebook. Medical cannabis works! Heartbreaking but hope. Our son suffers drop siezures , where imagine a switch that turns your muscles off, watched him crack his head 10 times. Since taking cbd he’s no longer drop siezures unless he’s ill (cbd not strong enough). Full extract works. Opioids have not worked and caused too much harm.
I always had depression do to not living a normal life. Like driving, living alone or even doing some normal activities. Can’t even find a date for god sakes but little did I know I’m not alone thank you all for sharing your stories with me. Hopefully I get through this. It’s real hard waking up all the time to people telling you your gonna be ok. Great video keep it up
You're not alone. It's so easy to feel that way. Myself, I never spoke with anyone with epilepsy, until I recently had a seizure in the grocery store. I wasn't even aware until I came to in the ambulance. I was only aware for a moment, then the next thing I knew I was in the emergency room. When I went back to talk to the people at the grocery store, a girl there showed me her tattoo that said "Epilepsy", and she gave me a smile and a nod. That by itself was nice, letting me know I wasn't the only one. Even when you know you're not alone, it can feel like it if you never meet or talk to anyone else that has it. You're not alone.
I have had seizures for 23 years now but coincidentally obsessed with drums not knowing why.....those last drums played are exactly what always runs in my brain after weeding.... always hysterical...its kinda magical to come across this video.....Thanks and I bless you TED...
Thank you. As an epileptic who has doctors wanting prescribe cannabis to relieve so much, I welcome how you laid out your information. Sadly, I have to find a cannabis friendly workplace, even though I'm not seeking "the high" just the healing. It's a a long road!
Don't smoke it take the oil. Research Charlotte's Web strain of cannabis that is very low in THC (the psychoactive component) and high in cannabinoids which is the element that functions in inhibiting seizures.
Thanks, Toni! It appears that I may soon be in a position with an employer where this could be a feasible. If that transition takes place, I'll definitely be doing more personal research.
Unfortunately because CBD oil can contain trace amounts of THC, a user of this medicine may still fail a drug test. When CBD oil is extracted from marijuana, trace amounts of THC can still remain. This of course depends on a few things. First of tall he amount CBD oil, the patient is using, secondly the quality of the CBD extraction, and lastly how strict an employer is abut levels found. Any amount of THC will remain detectable in your body for about 30 days time, because unlike alcohol that is water soluble, cannabis is fat soluble, and stores itself into fat sells. The funny thing about CBD oil, is that although it is legal, it is much more likely to cause work impairment then THC. THC will cause you become more creative and alert, while CBD will cause lethargy, and by slowing down the brain helps seizures. Why is it that a compound that would cause for impairment CBD, technically is allowed, while a compound that could increase work productivity THC, is still banned.
I appreciate your response and as I am a bit of a researcher, what you have outlined is very much in line with what has been documented. The suspension of THC in the bloodstream is really the key as well as what levels they are looking for as trigger points. My experience is that tests can also produce misleading results, which is to say that some tests will not work in my favor even though the high is not what I'm looking for. My difficult seizures are currently in a "remissive" state, thankfully, but the side effects of the Keppra or the condition remain. Flipping seizure meds can be insanely traumatizing. Transition is important. Poor transition is another week in ICU. Or worse. It would be nice to have a free, kind, and clear alternative to offset minor seizures and a great deal of neurological pain that wasn't deemed illegal due to poor and misunderstood regulation.
Frisbee Girl. Not sure how stringent your work's test is but this company gives an account of THC percentages in their product (pretty costly however): www.cwhemp.com/ Charlotte’s Web™ is a whole plant hemp extract containing the entire range of U.S. Government patented cannabinoids. Charlotte’s Web™ was created using proprietary genetics developed by Colorado’s Stanley brothers. Classified as hemp and thus legal to ship to all 50 states, Charlotte’s Web™ contains THC levels of 0.3% or less. ------------------------------------- My personal favorite for the vitamin/herbal cabinet (they don't give percentages however!): canabidol.com/cbd-oil/canabidol-cbd-full-extract-hemp-oil-500-10/ ------------------------------------- It's going to be so great when they standardize all of this. I've always spread the word to family with a documentary guideline I typed up. I'm grateful I live in a State however where this has all been fully legalized (Oregon). Best wishes and prayers to you.
After wrecking my car about a year ago, they finally decided to take my seizures seriously and diagnose me with epilepsy. Although I'm still going through a tough period and I'm not yet stable, I recently began taking CBD oil at any point in which I sense an aura. It's been more effective than any of the anticonvulsants I've tried at preventing seizures and it relieves anxiety as effectively as Xanax, without a high or any side effects.
Thank you so much. I am the mother of a wonderful girl who developed JME 10 years ago and now has multiple complications with photosensitivity and migraines necessitating life style changes. Please keep on pushing, to change our world. Helping her is fine by me, watching her being constantly held back and dominated by this illness breaks my heart every single day. xx
@@Leppalimes I have tonic-clonic seizures caused by a brain tumor and I'm concious when I have seizures but I do have memory loss after the seizure but after a couple hours all the memories from the seizure comes back to me and it's extremely painful and probally the worst feeling I've had. I can't hear I can't breath vision is blurry all I think about is that I don't wanna die or for it to stop. Luckily a brain surgery and medication has helped to stop it for some time but last month I've had 2 severe ones again and 1 of them was the first time I fell unconscious during a seizure. Its weird because I do get jumbled memories about what happened after the seizure but the seizure itself I can still remember how it felt and how long it felt
I'm 21, and it's been 11 years now that I'm epileptic. I really appreciated this talk. I would love your voice to be heard in France, as the CBD oil is not legalized in France, even though it would help a lot of people. Thank you very much for your talk!!
My daughter just died november 12 2018 . she had generalized tonic clonic seizures and infantile spasms at 3 months old. She died at only 9 months old. Because doctors kept giving her dangerous medications. Its ashame how here in america a parent is more smarter than the damn doctors .
I was watching a documentary on the medical field in general and someone actually said this and this is very true it goes for anything in the medical field there was a time when doctors used to listen to their patients and used to listen to the parents that time is no more. They are now getting out of medical school they've got huge heads and they think they're just so great they walk around like their stuff doesn't stink like well I read the medical book so I know what I'm talking about you have to live with it everyday yes or you're a parent of someone who lives with it everyday and you have to see it but I read the medical books and I graduated with an MD so you need to be quiet and just sit there and listen to me no no that's not how we go up in here sorry that's not how it flies I am paying you my insurance is paying you so I tell you what I am experiencing or my parent or my guardian or my spouse who sees it on a daily basis tells you what they have seen with their own eyes that I cannot myself explain and you shut up and you listen.
Awesome Talk! I'm so ecstatic that weed has been freed here in South Africa. We're only allowed to use in our homes, and grow at home, but that's the best start we could have ever hoped for! Now, for fixing this world. I'm starting with me: I post these kinds of videos on my media feeds, and I'm soon to be receiving a little bottle of cannabis oil, and I'm about to plant my seeds today! I"m going GREEN in the most beautiful way! And I just know I"m going to be a good example when I am 'noticed'... Awesome! Can't wait to start accumulating material to make my very first and own WEED VIDEO! Awesome! Yay! I love you Guys and Gals - and I pray that we may dance together forever in perfect harmony! :-}
@@julioj9850 well, i started using the CBD OIL in the beginning of the r/evolution with my Doc & Psychiatrist watching over me xxx My debilitating osteo- and arthritis AND DEPRESSION, AND MY MOOD LIFTED into a lighter load and i was even able to lose some dead weight because i could be more active xxx I'm so pleased with the progress and honestly don't object to the CANNABIS PROJECT being taken seriously by the Medical Profession so that there aren't cases of meds/drugs/herbal abuse and/or overdose xxx So, yes, still want to take my three drops a day (according to my body's ability to get better and not high) and as it doesn't interfere with my meds, it's part of my daily routine after food xxx
My adult son has suffered from unknown caused seizures for the past 3 years. He "self-medicates" and is also a drummer...the last few minutes will be fascinating for him to see.
When I was 2 I had a febrile seizure I stopped breathing and turned blue my mom gave me mouth to mouth and by the time the EMTS arrived I stopped seizing. As i grew from baby to toddler my parents began to see that i was delayed. So i started early intervention at 3 years old I had occupational therapy and PT . In pre k I would get angry and punch any thing that was in front of me after my parents had been observing me in a pre k class and talking to the pre k teachers it was suggested that my parents should take me to a therapist to rule out any behavior issues. he took one look at me and said that I was having seizures he then referred me to a neurologist. At the at the age of 5, I was diagnosed with childhood absence epilepsy but I have been seizure free since the age of thirteen. And so was taken of meds which caused massive weight gain a hand tremor and memory loss. The point is meds are good up until a point and then it becomes a pill, no pun intended. My triggers are flashing lights, the transition from the out doors to inside a classroom getting too hot and recently sleep deprivation. When i have an absent my pupils will go from normal to pin point that is the only physical sign the eye can lasts My seizures last one second and happened every minute to every minute and a half. So there are 60 seconds in a minute and 24 hours in a day then I was having seizures every 1440 minutes or 86400 seconds so in total I would have 86400 seizures per day with meds. my parents were told to treat me as a normal child and to see how fare I would develop and look at me now I have graduated high school with honors . I am in collage as you can infer I was not expected to do much of what I just mentioned The effects of my seizures is that I have Aspie like tendencies due to my epilepsy which I know is difficult to understand to put it in simple terms as a result of my seizures my brain compensated and rewired itself i also have severe deficits in Processing Speed, Perceptual Reasoning, and Working Memory, Upper Limb Coordination, Breath Support for speech language, Manual Dexterity, Fine Motor Skills, Hand Strength, Visual Perceptual Skills, and understanding meaning. When was 19 my father died, and it seems I have had a relapse if that is possible. I still have my absence seizure but it is not enough to put me on meds . When I was thirteen I had my last EEG and my seizures showed up as misfired neurons and the Dr. called them "flurries" so here is what my flurries are typically like I will become very spacey i can not interact with my surroundings I also felt locked in to place. I am completely aware my vision becomes like a tunnel and thing start to move or vibrate on there own for me an absent seizure lasts one-second with is rare but these flurries can last 5-10 minutes.
phytocannabinoids from the cannabis plant are able to slow down seizure activity. they are like a supplemental neurological agent. the endocannabinoid system works to slow down ( modulate/maintain) the signalling events that occur in your cells. the lipophilic access of phytocannabinoids into intracellular communication channels located on our cells ( cannabinoid receptors) creates a form of metabolic pathways that maintain the signalling and metabolic occurrences
Sophie, your epilepsy sounds very similar to mine, I too have been living with it since I was a toddler & have a similar pattern of seizure activity. It is possible that you may have issues come & go throughout your life. I was pharmaceutical free from the ages of 11-30. Then one night I had 3 tonic-clonic seizures back to back. I went back on pharmaceuticals, trying several different ones, over the course of a few years, until I got fed up with the terrible side effects & switched to a high CBD sativa tincture. I still at times get absence seizures or have moments where my hands stop working, but it is no where near as often as when I was on pharmaceuticals, nor does it have the horrible side effects. I have also found that getting plenty of sleep, keeping my life as stress free as possible, eating healthy (avoiding inflammatory foods), staying active, & resting in a dark room at the slightest sign of issues (for me, my first sign of trouble is when my hands stop working) have been very beneficial to preventing any tonic-clonic seizures. I wish you the best on your journey & hope that you find a treatment that lets you lead as normal a life as possible!
I am diagnosed with the same having tonic clonic and complex partial seizure since last 8 years and 3-4 times a year and recently gone through its surgery and removal of left hippocampus and amygdala 6 months ago after which i am not getting any of its symptoms but a little loss of memory and recalling words and facts........seizures and medicine damaged me alot like lenses , constipation, haemmoroids, cough , problem in breathing, being more talkative ,etc. ..........my education got distroyed......... no one can understand what i am going through and i bless to god for a new life........its just enough in this competitive situation.
@@hildaandrade2374 I'm being somewhat sarcastic. Ultimately you need to find that anecdote for you that relieves your nerves. It can be a combination of things especially activities like yoga for example. If you are interested I would first consult your doctor but lead with learning about CBD as opposed to THC applications which are psychoactive.
I’m smoking a joint rn and I had just noticed the guy with the drums and I was like hmm I wonder why he’s just sitting there was he there to warm up the crowd then he just started narrating what my brain waves would sound like
My husband is epileptic and he smokes along with oral CBD capsules. If he did nothing I truly believe he would be dead. Federal law has to change. I thank God for the science and Doctors out there who are discovering the benefits of Cbd.
Your husband only takes cbd capsules? Does he also take any doctor prescription pill for anticonvulsant? I am on Keppra and another anticonvulsant medication. I am so interested in cbd for stopping seizures. As for now the seizures I have are controlled with the medication I take, but I hate relying on the doctors approval or whenever there is a mix up at the Pharmacy and I am running extremely low on medication I am frantic. I am so reliant on those medications it's brutal. I feel like cbd would be so much easier to get then medication.
@Tiffany Nicole at first, he did only the and cbd unfortunately 6 months later; he had 2 cluster seizures. I think it helps him for sure. In his case, he needs anticonvulsant. He takes oxcarbazepine 900mg 2xs daily. I want to say that he still does THC which. I would be scared if he didn't. I know it helps him.
@@patchesneshell1388 I'm an epileptic myself. Do the research, high levels of thc can actually cause seizures. People like to believe marijuana in harmless, but that's absolutely not the case.
revelationary talk, going into the general specifics of how neurons work in our brain for the layman to understand, and depicting the tools used to understand the rhythm of action potentials, and the electrical signals that subconsciously run our conscious lifes-drawing parallels between them and the beat that is music to use a drummer musician to portray the activity of seizures-he brought up a most important issue in the use of cannabis as a medicine that works well for these kids whose brains undergo the stresses of epileptic fits on a continuous screaming basis, the need to remove stigmas associated with the substance, which in fact may be much more helpful and less harmful than many of the man-made chemical pharmaceuticals which have greater sideeffect, let us heed
Had an awesome argument with my folks about Cannabis and epilepsy... They're in the No camp, there's no benefit, its just a drug to get high... then I mention that Opium and its extracts have been used for quite a while - and their response is to tell me to shut up and walk away. lol.
@lacuna inc Yeah and then when you wake up one day with your body rejecting the stuff it wont be a laughing matter. Our bodies are uniquely created. And this is just one of the many things we shouldn't feed it.
I recently started having seizures my most recent was last week so In total I have had 2 seizures in the last month and before my episodes I have a sudden feeling of confusion and out of body experience and when I went to the hospital after my second seizure they took several test and after being there for almost the whole day they blamed my seizures on cannabis and I smoked nicotine as well but they didn’t say anything about that and I still don’t understand how that works could someone who is educated in this explain this to me please because I’m scared of having another seizure because I don’t want to put myself or my family through that again
Cbd does help for people with seizures It’s proven to reduce seizures And if you listen to this guy He’s basically explaining that cannabis can help the body
Omg I'm a drummer and I have seizures. The drums at the end literally triggered some of my symptoms of a seizure. I'm driving and thought I was gonna have to pull over. That is so weird. I guess being a drummer I keep things on beat. However the offbeat sounds totally screwed with my brain
Wonderful talk. Proud to be Lithuanian right now. I wish cannabis was legal.. Well, at least we still got CBD (hopefully the government won't take that away too..). I've been using Endoca hemp oils and i just feel great every day. I recommeded it to a friend with epilepsy and their seizures actually have reduced significantly! Cannabis is a wonderful plant, I hope there will be more talks about it publicly in LT
IV had epilepsy for 2 years and have had alot of seizures at work at home walking around. I tryed the antiseizures medication and couldn't function in everyday life. I tryed low doses of canebis and stoped taking pills. My life is much easier to control. I don't take pills and I hope I can continue to control my epilepsy without them.
There are many antiepileptic medications available. I encourage you to keep working with a neurologist to find the best combination for you that will give you good control. Some studies have looked at cannabinoids in combination with other AEDs - a neurologist would have current research available.
I’m from Kaunas and I wonder if he does talks there. I have glaucoma and im in chicago now working and i got into djing. the way he compared it to music really touched me.
I have been recently diagnosed with epilepsy; the video recording as a visual chart of the electrical activity in the brain was crazy and interestinf. The "music" at the end here started to trigger another seizure. The specialists at the hospital where I'm treated don't seem to know what to do---does the lecturer?
CBD has been the most effective treatment for my epilepsy. This of course is after treating other aspects of a brain injury that occurred in an accident. For me THC is not something that is a benefit in fact it is quite the opposite. I use high concentration CBD oil that is THC free.
Thank you Dr Omar for your help. I can't believe that am cured from epilepsy. Have being a fighter for manys years now. Subscribe to his youtube channel via searching Dr Omar Meds.
I had a stroke some years ago and now I'm getting seizures that are lasting for 2to3 minutes, I am getting spasms all over, some of which make me feel uncertain, if a seizure is about to come on or not.
Being born with epilepsy and having a sezuire disorder at age 5 cannabis and CBD oil has changed my life and improved my way and quality of life. And live a somewhat normal life with depression and being drug resistant.
Have you looked into the keto diet? Google the Charlie Foundation. May help you reduced CBD use and depression. I'll never turn back to the standard diet.
I have seizures in my sleep. If they can figure out a cure for the pandemic in 9 months why can’t they do the same for seizures that they supposedly have been studying for decades?????
We can easily breed plants which carry very little thc if any and so the benefits of the whole plant extract can be realized for all. The medical benefits either way far out weighs the effects if they are left to die.
So do I , I’m still unclear on how to consume cannabis and where to get it. I take Keppra 2000mg , do i completely cut off my meds when using cannabis or do I slowly cut down from Keppra?
@@hildaandrade2374 Keep taking your meds. I was able to stop taking Keppra and am only on Lamictal and Cannabis. It works wonders for me. I'd recommend starting with small amounts, Cannabis is something you need to get used to in the beginning. If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask. I'm always happy to help others in the epilepsy community.
My Seizures feel like I'm a prisoner in my own body. As if I'm being forced to watch torture of myself with a third person perspective. Sucks that I live alone. Sucks that I'm allergic to Keppra. I dont want to get high. I just want to cope. Yet even that is seen as addtict behavior.
Every epileptologist neurologist PCP I've ever had since I've been diagnosed with my epilepsy at 17 has told me never to live alone and I get extremely scared it's almost like a revert back to childhood like when you want someone to protect you I know I couldn't live on my own I'd be too scared. So God bless you.
My 14 year old daughter started having Tonic Clonic seizures this year out of the blue. Diagnosed with focal epilepsy. She is on Keppra, it’s not working. I’m researching CBD for alternative treatments.
@Jess aguilar I was also on Keppra and i absolutely hate the way it made me feel. It changed my personnality and made me irritable. Please do look up for life style changes . Good luck for your family and daughter.
Don't know if I'm too late to give you my 2 cents but keppra didn't work for me either...I've been epileptic since 1996, been on cannabis too also didn't help much. Sodium valproate (Epilim) and Topamax are a pretty good combo for me. But remember that it can take up to 3 months for your body do get used to a new drug combination so it doesn't happen overnight. Another thing to look into is "Taurine". Its an amino acid that exist in lots of things that we eat and its very good for you...i.e. heart and neural systems. Do a bit of research on it, you can get it from the pharmacy over the counter.
I'm epileptic and when I have a grand mal seizure They don't stop one right after another. Normally go to bed and wake in a hospital days later....cannabis has made me feel some what normal again
I have had seizures for the past 6 years to many meds to count no results I then tried a vns device losing my voice my Dr. Here when I asked about the rns device he said all he could do was more drugs and turn up the vns. I then contacted ucsf about the rns did all sorts of tests I now have one installed 1 year later still adjusting it. I am trying cbd oil with some THC included at night as that's when I get them. When I was suppose to go to the hospital I needed a blood test I got one where I live the nurse I was talking to was very upset about what I was doing until I mentioned I used marijuana for years she asked why I told her because it made me feel better at which point she started laughing. I am in 1 year of the rns adjusted every 3 months my Dr. Said it would a nother 6 until the effects will be better at controlling them. I am still on the pills and want to be free! I say my prayers and for anyone with them to be free.
Epilepsy has ruined my life for real, ptsd n anxiety just went 100x worse, would never wish this apon anyone, I'm having atleast 1 or 2 seizures a month and it just defeats me every time, and as much as people say don't let it beat u, it's impossible sometimes, btw I smoke a good bit of weed myself to get through n to sleep n to wake up n to eat n stuff
I was diagnosed with epilepsy at 17 years old my junior year of high school I was homebound tutored most of the year because I was having so many seizures I am now in my 30s and I have a combination of simple partial and complex partial seizures my mom had Grand mal seizures I'm on a combination of trileptal and kappra sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't I started taking CBD oil. So many people have told me about the pros of cannabis and a lot of people are trying to convince me to get my medical marijuana card I'm still thinking it over.
You are like me. I started getting grand mal seizures in high school also. Just out of the blue one day I had a seizure. I am also on Keppra and one other seizure medication. I am in my 30's also.
I didn’t start having seizures until I was 19-20 but I started smoking cannabis at 15. I was bound to start having seizures so I can’t say if it helped keep my condition under control longer. I do know that after a seizure smoking calms me down and pretty much brings me back to reality. Anyways there’s other cannabinoids that have shown to help with epilepsy. Even THCA it’s THC in its acidic form and won’t cause a high. It’s been shown to help with partial seizures. Also it’s best to have full spectrum extracts. They call it the entourage effect. Basically they coincide and work together and do the job better.
My daughter suffers from Dravet syndrome (on any given day she suffers about 12+ seizers). Did anybody on this forum try CBD or CBD/THC (20:1). Did the CBD help, where can I buy CBD in South Africa?
There are probably videos of people with dravet or doctors explaining if it works, here on youtube. Try to check them out. Else, well the MCT in coconut oil and red palm oil helps some people, like a ketogenic diet. And plain hemp CBD oil also works on some people.
Let me take out a moment in my busy life to send a thank you note to a very amazing doctor who is full of love and commitment,Dr ogie is truly a blessing to the world thanks for curing my epilepsy.
I was so hopeful that cbd would help my epileptic dog. His seizures got worse even hours apart from his meds. Why? Please help. Three meds and he still gets violent seizures about every two weeks.
As a 36 year old who has over the last year stared taking seizures getting worse over time, it’s hard to rain in my inner hypercondriact . Problem is weed is still illegal here in the uk or I’d try it, sure I could get it illegally but with my luck I’d end up with actual dried up grass from someone’s lawn.
Medical canabbis + epilepsy = it works. Can work. So glad worked for our son!! Coming up for a year seizure free. This video helped her head round it. So glad we tried it. Micro dose up and be wary of interactions. Try cbd only first. If improvements and say siezure free for the day like us, but still siezures at night sleeping, then stops working, going full extract we found totally worked 100% free. We’re realists and heard the kids ahead of us can get siezures again after 11-12 months so not perfect but Grady at moment. Touching wood x keeps working or triggered something that got him out of it. Love this video.
THIS is what happens in IBD I believe...The Neurons within the Gut are also prone to Epilepsy causing such underlying conditions such as psoriasis of the Gastro-intestinal lining (My Hypothesis) which I believe is an inflammatory condition that leads to over-production & shedding of the Lumen-lining leading to Crohns...amongst other diseases of the Gastrointestinal system. But what the hell do I know? I'm no Doctor, I only have had to live with this supposed condition for the past 15 years without any "Help" or thoughts from those WITH Medical Degrees & their constrained thinking neatly white-coatedly regulated to within their nicely packed & re-packaged regurgitated boxes of preconceived thought and postulations......sadly this TED Talk has had 4258 Views but only 65 Likes??!! Really??
You mean "businessmen in white coats"? *L* You need to find a f-u-n-c-t-i-o-n-a-l medicine doctor! www.functionalmedicine.org/practitioner_search.aspx?id=117 I am on AIP, Auto Immune Protocol, Paleo diet for IBS and gluten intolerance. I found info myself, I don't trust the white coats, they are only taught how to prescribe Big Pharma meds with side effects, they have no clue how to heal the body, unless they are functional medicine docs.
I'm on vimpat and I hate it and I want to stop and start CBD oil but I'm scared to stop taking the medicine as my doctor told me it can make my seizures worse
I actually have two differnet types and one is the staring. My eyes get red and role back as I'm told, The other one is strange. I lose consciousness and I look normal to people. I don't know until I regain consciousness and the way I found out was walking from 45th street to 56th street without even knowing and I didn't even get hit by a car. Also there is absolutely no pre-warning. I'm just taken without knowning til it's over. smh That was a long seizure. i hate this😥
I smoked weed before I had epilepsy , spent 15 years not going to doctors about it just smoking weed sat in prison (if your epileptic you can’t have single cell and having certain seizures are hard to fight off when people are around me and try to talk to me) but yeah weed had/has same affect on seizures as now when I take (most of time) the meds ... but anyways enough of that Bollox .. live long and prosper 🖖 and god save the Queen 👸🏼
I have now taken Lamictac / Lamotragine twice a day for 5 years. I had to start on a very low dose and build up to what I take now. It immediately stopped my partial complex seizures but it took quite a bit longer to get rid of my simple / aura type seizures. I have had no side effects and it still works after 5 years. It probably effects people differently.
I'm an epileptic and I really don't like cannabis. My epilepsy is now controlled by medicine so I don't need cannabis, just putting in my 2 cents that all epileptics don't naturally gravitate toward the herb.
Epidiolex is 45% effective at abatement of seizures .. the closest thing pharma has to that is @ 4% efficacy @ abatement . your endocannabinoid stops seizures .. ther are numerous drugs that target that system but but none do it better than cannabis plant

I'm a member of two Epilepsy online groups and for the most part people report having good experiences with the meds prescribed by their Neurologists. I loved the depth of the speech but wen the vid ended I felt chilled n relieved it was over.

I am in collage as you can infer I was not expected to do much of what I just mentioned
The effects of my seizures is that I have Aspie like tendencies due to my epilepsy which I know is difficult to understand to put it in simple terms as a result of my seizures my brain compensated and rewired itself i also have severe deficits in Processing Speed, Perceptual Reasoning, and Working Memory, Upper Limb Coordination, Breath Support for speech language, Manual Dexterity, Fine Motor Skills, Hand Strength, Visual Perceptual Skills, and understanding meaning.

@Jess aguilar I was also on Keppra and i absolutely hate the way it made me feel. It changed my personnality and made me irritable. Please do look up for life style changes . Good luck for your family and daughter.
I was diagnosed with epilepsy at 17 I'm on a combination of trileptal and keppra and keppra doesn't work for me either.
PSA: Dont watch this right after having an episode. This guy is making me trip with the Tat-Tat-TAT sounds 💥 💥 😂
Great talk, Jokubas!
Just started with cannabis oil on our epileptic dog today. Hoping the best!
I'm epileptic and when I have a grand mal seizure They don't stop one right after another. Normally go to bed and wake in a hospital days later....cannabis has made me feel some what normal again
My worst fear
Great presentation ! Thank you
Loved the last part
Thanks for sharing such an enlightening information , it was really great...
Hope youre doing okay
Im an epileptic since 8 years old but have been smoking since ive been about 18 im 24 now
I was diagnosed with epilepsy at 17 years old my junior year of high school I was homebound tutored most of the year because I was having so many seizures I am now in my 30s and I have a combination of simple partial and complex partial seizures my mom had Grand mal seizures I'm on a combination of trileptal and kappra sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't I started taking CBD oil.
I also have simple partial & complex partial- as well as nocturnal tonic clonic.
I can’t take Keppra because of side effects.
gotta love Dr Z ! in his neurosci class this sem!

As an epileptic person this was hard to listen to but good infy
Thank you Jokubas Ziburkus!
I only have very mild seizures, but I can still relate to it played out on the drums.
Right!? That's the first thing I said, that's what they feel like

He can be the drummer for my band
I was so hopeful that cbd would help my epileptic dog. His seizures got worse even hours apart from his meds. Why? Please help. Three meds and he still gets violent seizures about every two weeks.

Sarah Hitmoore Dr M?
Sarah Hitmoore it’d my dog. Terrible epilepsy.
Vanity68 would you like your dog to get rid of it
Permanently
Sarah Hitmoore I approached one dr and he said it was 2500. I can’t afford that.
Hemp oil? Hemp seeds, or coconut oil

Very informative thank you
I m an epileptic for more than 30 year.. i just wanna know that is canabis is good for us epileptic people?
Yes CBD OIL should help
i dident know russle crow knew all this stuff

BRAVO!! Ted Talks...go on on this... thank you whoever actually posted this🙏🏼
And he didn't have anyone decent,Sad.
*L* You need to find a f-u-n-c-t-i-o-n-a-l medicine doctor!
www.functionalmedicine.org/practitioner_search.aspx?id=117
I am on AIP, Auto Immune Protocol, Paleo diet for IBS and gluten intolerance. I found info myself, I don't trust the white coats, they are only taught how to prescribe Big Pharma meds with side effects, they have no clue how to heal the body, unless they are functional medicine docs.
OMG geras standupas! Atciu!

FACK!
life shattering

Person With Epilepsy. Only our seizures and drugs are anti-epileptic. Dont let it define you.
@ChanceInLove how so?
Does anyone know about the pros and cons of Lamitical?
I have now taken Lamictac / Lamotragine twice a day for 5 years. I had to start on a very low dose and build up to what I take now. It immediately stopped my partial complex seizures but it took quite a bit longer to get rid of my simple / aura type seizures. I have had no side effects and it still works after 5 years. It probably effects people differently.
@@Solar-ArchitectI am on both of those too. And I have the same type of seizures like you. And they both work well for me now finally
I went from 11-13 seizures a day to one a month Thanks to medical marijuana
I'm an epileptic and I really don't like cannabis. My epilepsy is now controlled by medicine so I don't need cannabis, just putting in my 2 cents that all epileptics don't naturally gravitate toward the herb.
Epidiolex is 45% effective at abatement of seizures .. the closest thing pharma has to that is @ 4% efficacy @ abatement . your endocannabinoid stops seizures .. ther are numerous drugs that target that system but but none do it better than cannabis plant
@@mcozy333 Hi, My medicine has completely stopped my seizures. I'm a member of two Epilepsy online groups and for the most part people report having good experiences with the meds prescribed by their Neurologists. Epilepsy drugs are over 60% effective (The New England Journal of Medicine, 342 (2000), pp. 314-319). I've watched this video and it seems to promote cannabis pretty fervently. If you look up the presenter you find he is the owner of a company that promotes cannabis and nutraceuticals.
@@Solar-Architect that is awesome for you and great they work .
@@Solar-Architect another mention and why I'm posting this about cannabis . phytocannabinoids non selectively metabolize as second messengers fro the cells . this is depolarization induced signaling .
term used to describe seizure abatement in Endocannabinoid system - Depolarization induced suppression of excitation of neurotransmitter release ( DSE)
@@mcozy333 I know some form of cannabis really helps kids. I'm not really an expert on this, I'm just happy that my medicine works and I'm allowed to drive a car again.
Let's not forget the positive effects of cannabis on the tremors and spasms associated with Parkinson's Disease.
My uncle Johnny had a seizure and drowned in 3 feet of Water...
I have 2 ask... if u have seizures, did u experience oddness like muscles twitching n find it unbearable at sum points as the drums played? I loved the depth of the speech but wen the vid ended I felt chilled n relieved it was over. I wasnt expecting that at all n found it weird. eeg strobes r unbearable but I never had that happen from drums? Im drugged of course but they fail me without "notice". Im tryin to get fedguv to federalize cannabis, lower cost, use credit cards so theres a papertrail in the corrupt system, n medical shud be covered under insurance since they insist its a drug (wen we all know its just a plant)
