Double track lead vocal + overdub harmonies = same way the Beach Boys made the original. Sounds awesome.
Please could you explain in layman’s terms what means, and how it differs from how songs are made now. Thanks in advance!
@@amitandutube No problem. To overdub is to add something to a recording after you make it. So, you might start with what we see in this video. 4 people sitting in the room playing music together. After that, the singer puts on headphones, listens to it, and records more parts. This makes it sound like there is a group of backup singers. Double tracking is a specific type of overdub where the singer tries to copy the original melody as close as possible. It makes the sound stronger/thicker and a little echo-y.
@@amitandutube I brought it up as a similarity, not a difference, between this 2023 cover to and 1966 original. In response to the idea "don't use studio tricks, just play music live and authentic." The Beach Boys and Brian Wilson were actually using studio tricks too, and it's part of why it sounds so cool! Part of the magic.
@@amitandutube A good example to hear what double tracking sounds like vs. not double tracking: This song, and their cover of Wish You Were Here. Same singer, but Wish You Were Here is not double tracked.
came here to comment this
I started listening, thinking I’d stop maybe halfway through. But her voice and the arrangement and production were so captivating that I couldn’t look away. Really beautiful
love this alternative take, sort of Beach Boys through a lovely sunset of sound.
Yeah I was a teenager on California beach when this came on radio and vinyl with Pet Sounds. Beautiful hearing young people near the age of my grand children performing this arrangement here. Wouldn't it be nice now I am 58 years older.
Well I'm not a million years behind you (46) & I love stuff my parents era well before my time to the latest artists that the younger generations listen to today but it doesn't really matter when it's from, the reason why these sort of songs/covers happen or exist is because good/true/real music is timeless
I'm glad she delved into this song. She did justice to it. I 1st heard her doing the Girl from Ipenema, which was sublime. It seems she has a flair & look for the 60's with a twist. Keep up the good work guys.
Quite possibly the cutest song ever written. ❤
And she/they totally ruined it.

Elise simply 'gets it' musically...so very nicely done!
Well, THIS was a nice little treat! I'm an old Boomer now, but a proud child of the 60s. Very protective of Our BB music, ready to castigate anyone who thinks they just have a Right to cover their music. Happily... I feel confident in saying you have done Brian and the Boys a truthful and honest presentation of a really wonderful tune. Well done, "kids" !!! And thank you!!
brilliant guitar work here as well. The nylon has such a nice touch
Man, Brian Wilson was a tortured genius with the soul of a child. This song is so sweet and innocent.
These stripped down versions are reacquainting me with the beauty of the songwriting and lyrics - thank you!
I got chills as soon as she started singing. Success!
This was incredibly beautiful, and those harmonies tho... this has to be the best cover ever of this song
Immortal song. It works with any instrument and any voice. That being said, this is a lovely cover.
Extremely lovely... Heartwarming and heart tearing. So happy to see familiar faces making real music again & some more, without any pretentious swinging of cameras like with recent Scary Pockets stuff
Beautiful. I always loved the original and this one is just as good. Thanks guys
Thank you for your gift of making this. My fiancée and I are using this for our wedding dance!!
What a lovely dance it was 💕 it is so nice 🎵
Glorious harmonies!
Gonna show this to my dad, he grew up listening to the Beach Boys and I think he'll love the arrangement and harmonies! 💛
Your dad probable reaction: kids nowadays have no rock n roll in their veins...plot twist: your dad is right....
@@YOSOYLADISCO I grew up with my dad showing me a lot of his favorite oldies so I have a little bit of rock n roll in me at least. He really enjoyed this cover and was pointing out some of the different harmony sections. It's fun to see him get so excited about something he enjoys.
@@mint_marigold1229 okey, new plot twist: Your dad is dead....
@@YOSOYLADISCO ....??????
Ryan about to burst into tears at 1:40 - ya breakin mah heart!
oof that first word she utters! yessssss! so well done!
amazing vocals
Such a sixties vibe. Spot on.
Love at first note! Gorgeous thank you
I am and will always be amazed by the production quality. Love it!
This is so lovely, it really brightens my day
This so cute, Ryan seems to feel like in heaven❤
Heavenly. 😊
Simply beautiful.
Une reprise rafraichissante. Impeccable. Bravo et merci pour ces 2mn30 de grâce.
Man, Elise is so good.
Gorgeous...well done!
소리가 너무 좋네요. 감사합니다.
I love that vocal chorus effect
Is it a chorus? Sounds like a double-track.
@@MichaelColombo it's most definitely overdubs
@@MichaelColombo Well, a chorus device takes a signal, delays it slightly, and modulates the delay time so it's not just a static time delay. Those slight time/pitch shifts become what we consider chorusing. So really, it's both here - her double tracking isn't machine perfect, and those little imperfections cause what you're hearing as chorus.
@@riccampbell Sure. When the original commenter said "chorus effect" it seemed like they implied they were using an electronic effect. Not the chorus effect as a result of it being double tracked.
@@riccampbell whatever it is it melts me
Wow…love it
so nice!!!
Love it!
VERY nice!! great job...
The perfect engagement and wedding song 🥰
So clean-Respect.
Stunning!
Lovely!
Beautiful! x
Very nice cover indeed
Awwww❤
That was beautiful. What a great job. Amazing harmonies Elise. To the guitar player who was playing the Epi, where did you find that old DeArmond pickup, I use to have one on a Guild a long time ago.
noises of surprise and wonder
Oh, my God…my ears just fell in love!!
Wonderful.
wow what a siren song. woulnt it be nice indeed
I love Elise but then who wouldn't? 💖
Sorry 😬
for a litle bit, i was in heaven!
Wow! Thanks.
Ryan Lerman looking completely in love.. and I cannot blame him.. So Beautiful!
Very nice all!
Wonderful! What is the guy on the floor using to make those background harmonies and oohs and aahs?
so tender, guys 🌹
Charming !
Dave Laveta, legend
I’m full up on The Beach Boys, but this is awesome.
That head rest though. Naw. Huge fan of you all.
Very good job y’all!!
Ignore those 🤦♂️ comments…
Did you guys track the other vocals separately or use some kind of harmonizer to do them live?
How are they doing these vocals??? Amazing
Yeah, it's like they double up on her vocals. Sounds lovely.
There are overdubs
@@jordak you sure there are over-dubs?
@@shawnmaloneypro There are absolutely overdubs, especially when she breaks into harmony.
@@MichaelColombo yes, there are harmonies, just wondering if they are overdubs or is Wil Blades triggering them live?
wistful
I can't believe I only discovered this channel this month 😮
does anyone know what year/model is Rayan's Epiphone?
Which kind of synth is used by the keyboardist?
yes it would! it already is :)
🙏❤❤❤
I think we can all agree: Yes. Yes, it would be nice :)
What synth is that?
What synth is Wil using?
Critter & Guitari Organelle I believe
@@codyrathman Trying to figure this out too. Pretty sure it's not an Organelle - no jacks on the back, width to height ratio is wrong, whatever Wil is using looks to be jacked from the top plate. Whatever it is he's doing solid work with it... think it's the C&G Pocket Piano.
@@alefoot that’s the one! looking at one on my desk right now.
Ryan's got a CRUSH!
Would love to know who did the vocal harmonies
Appears to be live, real-time processing and splitting the vocal signal into two-track unison and harmonies. Elise is a master of sound technology.
This is too short! Moooore
Stories was better at the beginning when stripped down version was just that. Two guitars and a singer. No ridiculous vocal filters, no added backing vocal tracks, no percussion. This was a quiet version of the song, but was certainly not stripped down. Sounded highly produced IMHO
Great version, love the vibe. However i didn't like the fact that te guitar starts playing stright 8th notes and the melody is singin swing (as the original song). None the less great job, thank you!!
For anyone who has ever tried to play this song (or most of Brian's work) it's not as simple as it sounds
Quick Question....Were the harmonies coming the box the gentleman on the floor is holding? And if so, what kind of effects unit is it? The harmonies are spot on.
I think it's just a keyboard sound way in the background. I can hear it the best during the instrumental section starting at 1:30ish.
Yes, that's a critter and guitari pocket piano. It's very versatile.
I'd like to get acquainted with that nice sweet box. Is that what's controlling all the vocal harmonies?
Works much better than Wish You Were Here. Really a lovely performance.
First up- awesome version,... tho I kinda wish the vocals weren't as affected... everything else stripped down but serious overlay on her lovely voice... maybe an earlier version to show just why it was so heavily treated by comparison?
it's really hard to listen to a bb song without the harmonies, but this is decent i think
It has harmonies…just all her.
Very nice!! but...there's always a wrong note in the melody that honestly bothers me
( a E instead a C)
Makes me wonder what the BBoys would have sounded like with female tonality amongst the high parts.
Wouldn't It Be Nice ...The boys are getting older, the girls are getting younger...stories of scary pockets
Wow she's so good she can sing double melody and harmonies at the same time. Just making fun but nice nod to the original.
i can only think of 50 First Dates
Trent Crimm on the guitar
16 times the detail
Everybody's serious as a tomb when Jack isn't around
Very nice but I hearing distortion
Whilst the multi-tracked vocals sound great, I don't know that they quite fit your described aesthetic of "stripped-down"
Imagining this with a girl. Wouldn’t it be nice ☺️🏳️🌈
A cry from the sane middle. It _would_ be nice.
This is a very, very nice version. But for my taste it is quite a bit too "clean".
Aww. 57 years ago, the #8 song on the Billboard Hot 100 was about waiting for marriage…
I would have liked it without overdubs et cetera. Such a nice cover.
Why did it sound like 2-3 women were singing instead of 1? Confusing.
Because overdubs. Something I really would not expect in the format of "stories". Should have been a real chorus instead. They know enough good singers and they make enough money to be able to hire them.
Not just stereo splitting?
@@jacobwilliamson7222 I think I hear harmonies, not just multiple versions of the same take/channel
