her reading the lyrics off of her phone but recreating nearly every note of every run perfectly is so funny to me
LOL was just thinking this
I’m fine with melody, but when you’re focusing to much on technique, especially with a song this vocally challenging, sometimes I need lyrics unless I’ve done it a bunch of times
I memorize runs way before lyrics so I understand lol
It's just a map, she's driving in full control but feels comfortable checking a few waypoints.
If I had a voice this good, I WOULD NEVER SHUT UP
Lizzy's dad passed away right as her career was taking off, just like Yebba's mom did. She must be able to relate to Yebba in that way, and that expression shows through beautifully here.
This is almost a religious experience. The combination of Lizzy’s effortless accuracy and expression with Yebba’s haunting lyrics and chords - all backed by this tight group playing with such self discipline - it just leaves me speechless. Bravo.
With the riffs definitely
The ultimate performance
This. Is. Incredible. To be able to cover Yebba AND make it sound this good is a feat. I feel like we need a Yebba + Lizzy collab now.
i have a feeling lizzy would kill to make that happen :’)
ASAP okay
She graduated from Berklee for a reason, folks. Rising star. Found her during the pandemic and haven't stopped listening.
Pretty sure she dropped out of Berklee due to her success
@@carabuse7042 i think she said she dropped out because of covid. Not being able to meet with fellow students (=musicians she can make music with), losing these people and attending only on online classes seemed pointless to her.
@@asdfhun yes
Lizzy McAlpine and stories perfectly fit together.
She's so unassuming looking and her performances are usually understated but she let's out just the perfect little flips, runs or slides that make your hair stand up.
man that shit is fucking difficult to pull off and she does it with ease! what a beast of a vocal!!!
I’ve been obsessed with this song since it came out and I didn’t think anyone would be able to cover it but here we are
exact same reaction. such a strong cover of an insanely difficult song
no doubt about it, Lizzy nailed this Yebba tune note for note which is impressive by itself. What's more impressive is how she made it her own. Her dynamic sensibility here is second to none. Stories does it again! Hats off to the band and to Lizzy!
Right 100% agree
Lord have mercy, this is UNREAL. I cannot believe someone even came close to matching Yebba's greatness on this song, but WOAH. Hats off to you, Lizzy!
i never stop thinking about this cover
Vocal virtuosity. She’s incredible. Unbelievably beautiful tone, control, delicacy. World class. I love, love, love her.
The perfection of her runs in the last minute of this drive me MAD... I mean this entire thing is maddening. Gosh!!!
Yeah this gave me chills multiple times. Lizzy dropped the mic on this one.
When she goes "Say now"
LIZZY COVERING YEBBA WITH ARIEL POSEN AND RYAN AND DAVE HOLY SHIEEEET
Masters of their craft😊
Indeed
RIGHT?!?!?!
I have mixed feelings about people covering Yebba. To me at least, she’s a singularity. However, this is excellent
I hesitate to speak for Ms. McAlpine, but I'm sure she somewhat agrees. She's in awe of Yebba too. )
I agree but she did a beautiful job. It’s sounds so haunting in this version 🙌🏽
I would really much like to like this comment, but the universe commands that it stays at 69 likes indefinetly.
I know what u mean because Yebba has a tonal quality that is unmistakable and i think she sings from a deeper level. But i agree. This was great and didnt feel copycat nor too different than the original.
I agree
Ryan's pride is so heart-warming, and his smile makes me weak in the knees. Lizzy is insanely talented!
0:58 gorgeous run 😮 that was only the first of many gorgeous and melodic runs
Lizzy is a gift that just keeps on giving! Love her voice!
Damn...she absolutely nailed some extremely challenging vocals.
In my 18 years of watching UA-cam videos, this is the first one to compel me to leave a comment.
That was a breathtaking performance with a phenomenal display of vocal mastery.
100% agree 😲
18 years?
@@lucaswallo8127 UA-cam went online in February 2005....
Lizzy truly made this Yebba cover her own! Her unique spin and insane vocals took it to a whole new level. And don't even get me started on the band - they were spot on. Such a killer performance, can't stop replaying it!
The laughter at the end is everything. But so is everything that comes before. Damn.
I am Ryan Lerman's facial expressions when I watch/listen to this. Gorgeous.
The only person who could ever cover this song and do it justice is Lizzy. Absolutely incredible.
Ryan said he was listening to Lizzy Mcalpine recently in the professional musicians react and since I haven't stopped listening..
The singer is as precise and technical as talented. Awesome performance. And looking her phone… so not sure about the lyrics ? How confident about her voice she must be ! Thanks all of you.
Yeah, I expect she was reviewing the lyrics since most of these productions (Scary Pockets, Pomplamoose and Stories ) are done in one day. So there's not a lot of time to learn a new song.
It’s lizzy
As someone who cannot remember lyrics to save my life, I sympathize with her. I suspect it was the rapid turnaround of these songs that made her use it, but plenty of singers still use teleprompters when playing to 20,000 fans in a stadium. Elton John, Paul McCartney, Axl Rose, Jon Bon Jovi.... all have used them for songs they've been singing for decades.
Could be a chatroom she's looking at if it was livestreamed to patrons. Don't know if it was.
@@dankymatters838 That would be too distracting, not to mention very unprofessional and tacky. Lyrics or other notes on the song are more likely.
Lizzy is about to blow up in a big way and she deserves every bit of it. The musicality oozing from this woman is just insane.
The way the guitarist looking at her is like he's in the presence of pure light ❤
this is so good. she has so much control over her voice.
Aaaah, you guys wanna kill me? This is too good! TOO GOOD! She's at the same time herself as she's channeling Yebba herself.
Lizzy once again killing her performance
Lizzy! I hope you're ready to be recognized whenever you go out, because you are about to BLOW UP! What an amazing voice.
You known it's gonna be good when Ryan and Lizzy are involved :D
2:14 The looks on the guitarist's face when as he hears Lizzy do her runs and realizes that he is in the company of a musical genius. Love, love, love her and this cover of the song.
This song is amazing - most people today don't recognize what an interesting harmony and melody can do on its own, everyone is obsessed with timbre and sound, dialing in their VST-Plugins and forgetting what it means to make music in the moment and most of all together. The modulations in the verse, the lydian melody in the chorus are so beautiful you can't even put it into words. And yet, there's a trusty V-vi-IV-I at the end and it works, because it's not the whole song, repeating for 3 minutes over and over and over until you fall asleep.
And on top of that, then there's the sound - skilled, dedicated musicians, playing live and uncut in the same room will never get old. Music is not dead, just because advertising, movies and TikTok promote only dumbed down 3 minute loops with forgettable melodies - it's well and alive, thanks to institutions like Scary Pockets, stories, Vulf, Main Squeeze etc.
What a time to be alive.
So eloquently put, I completely agree! Especially with the trusty progression at the end. There are so many conflicting emotions in the song and having that stability at the end hits harder for that exact reason in my opinion.
Seeing how much the guitarist enjoys the music is everything
She’s definitely on repeat!! And her rifts 😩😩 and her soft tone. Yes mam 💕💕
I’ve listened to this more than any other song in 20yrs. This is such an incredibly moving performance. My soul thanks you.
Not my favorite singer covering my other favorite singer- Best day ever
X2 🙌🏻
Think this is the best Yebba cover I’ve heard, ever. Lizzy definitely nailed it, and also made it her own which made the whole performance even more impressive! Incredible.
This is a masterpiece. In so many levels.... Voice, technique, arrangement, feeling, instrumentals, sound, ATMOSPHERE,...OMG
That outro ALWAYS compels me to tears, both on the original and this cover! Well done Lizzy and stories
ALWAYS!!
Have you heard Yebba’s version from Electric Lady studios? Allegedly she mixes the end with an unfinished song called Howling. Mindblowingly gorgeous
As a staunch YEBBA listener and someone who doesn’t usually enjoy anyone who covers her songs, you ate this upppp 😩
Hundreds of fantastic Stories covers - and I have listened and loved them all. But this one is just another level for me...sublime.
I listened to this before, but it's even cooler to see it. Wonderful performance. Everything Lizzy does is awesome.
this cover really does yebba justice! well done lizzy
Tell me
Will you leave me lonely
On and on and on, I know you told me
The most important reason why
You'll color in as many lines as I need you
Tell me
When we have no money
And the sirens start their callin'
You say slow down
Slow down, come on
Slow down
And this paranoia purple turns to green
And nothing is as simple as it seems
What's happening to me?
Say now
When my life is over
Will you find somebody good enough to hold you?
Someone like my Abigail?
To tell you all is good and well like me now
Say now
I feel my colors show how
I think it's almost time for me to go now
Go now, go now
But this paranoia purple turns to grey
And all that's good and well
It melts away
Until we meet again
How could I for
Still can't figure it out
Still can't figure it out
Ooh, how could I forget about you now
Tell me, how could I forget about you now?
Now, now, now
How could I yeah for-forget about you
Never heard the song before. Can up on a random playlist and listening to those runs made me think “YEBBA”. To my surprise …What a great cover by Lizzy!
The laugh at the very end was pretty dang heart-warming
Lizzy why do you laugh ? Such grace in your singing actually makes me wanna cry !!! What an astonishing performance ! All the best to all of you guys from France !
Thank you to whomever wrote this song so that we could hear Lizzy and the fellas perform it.
I didnt know she could sing like this👏🏻👏🏻…When it comes to Yebba, and this song in particularly…She did a great job..Go off Lizzy👏🏻👏🏻
this took genuine bravery. but if there's anything i love about her attitude, it's the willingness to put out into the world whatever will be of a moment. i mean those moments from her are always winners no matter.
goodnesswow this is just the gift that '22 needed. i was actually just yesterday trying to think of what lizzy tuneage to show this yebba-loving friend that'd be sure to be appreciated. what kismet this appeared today. brilliance.
The softness of her voice is unreal ❤❤ so nice
Lizzy did Yebba and this song such justice. It’s so soothing to listen to her voice and talent shine thru on this cover. Bravo.
There are no words to describe how amazing this is ❤
Have been coming back regularly since this came out. Still for me it‘s the best cover Lizzy has done so far… and she‘s moving farther on… what a voice! 🌻
Wow like wow...she did it major justice! Didn't even feel like a cover but did at the same time. She took her time, made it her own but still kept Yebbas feel & Essence which is NO EASY FEAT! 10/10 Lizzy 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
i listened to the first 3 bars 10 times in a row. wow. such an elegant modulation.
Thank you Yebba and thank you Lizzy.
I love yebba and the Song Paranoia Purple - and GUUUUURRRLLL you sang like - oh my goood! your voice is like a warm blanket in a cold winterday. Hearthealing!
Beautiful , soooooo beautiful!! Thank you!!
That was a master class in unison tension.
Good lord I just got chills all over. I can't believe this doesn't even have 1k views yet! Lotta people don't know what they're missing. Great playing by all musicians and heavenly singing.
OMG!!! That must be what angels sound like.❤❤❤❤
Oh this is smooth like butter! Yebba posted this version one of my favorite songs on the album. Beautiful song and beautiful rendition!
I've watched this video a few times and for some reason UA-cam keeps recommending it to me/showing it at the end of other videos that aren't even related. Not complaining. The universe just wants me to experience this over and over again.
I'm on the next level when my mind recommends me parts of this song completely randomly, even in dreams... :D
(I've experienced it with a few songs in the past, but not many... like My Gift of Silence by Blackfield or Deprived by Riverside or Drugged Suite by Bass Communion)
This is a masterpiece
One of the greatest vocals I’ve ever heard. Lizzy forever!
THE ACCURACY THO..... LIZZY U ARE TOO AMAZING ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Yebbas album is completly and utterly insane and so are lizzy's vocals. shes the only person i can think of rn that would do justice to what yebbas transmiting in these songs
I love how these guys can get people like Ariel Posen to sit in on a session like nbd. Amazing music.
Oh, it's a big deal 😭
Holy shit! That was so musically interesting and captivating at the same time, great stuff Ryan, please keep doing these
so beautifully done, ya'll. also loved watching the guitarist's face haha

The vocal control Lizzy has is incredible - love listening to covers like this, a real inspiration!

Beautiful! Not many people can pull off a Yebba cover. But, then again..not many people can keep up with Jacob Collier..you’re amazing!! 😍
