It’s so interesting how in the text-based levels you can see the entire level all at once represented by a finite amount of text, even with triple-staggered recursion.
Those text-based levels actually helped me to think about those wolds not as some complex recursive embeddings, but as simple portals. Rendering one box multiple times just makes it look confusing.
@@nopenope6150 I doubt it was for prototyping/designing individual levels. At the end of the game, you get some behind the scene screenshots, including a screenshot of a level editor. I think it either just the dev having fun, or it was for debugging purposes to see what's actually going on without the added complexity of the graphics
I absolutely love this "Centre" section because it takes what is obvious from the beginning and makes it a puzzle. You don't really care that you go to the middle of each block every time you enter/exit, you just focus on the fact that you're pushing blocks, then suddenly the position actually matters, it's really neat
I think it's amazing how the text-based recursive level was somehow very understandable, even without the obvious visual recursion! I wonder if there are recursive levels in the future which might be more easily solved in that text-based, simplified form than in its main-game form.
I'm pretty sure, because the recursion aspect of the game is mostly dressing and aesthetics, and you can treat them as teleporters with the same net effect. This is encouraged by the ascii levels because they lack the visual design of the rest of the game.
