Very interesting video! And yes, Alpha 2 was basically finished around September 2016. In fact, all of the alphas took months to make and were made seperately from each other. The ORIGINAL announcement of the game (the prototype trailer) was posted in June 2015 and was basically like the Pre-Alpha but with a different house and AI. The Pre-Alpha itself dates back to their original kickstarter campaign (where the AI rundown video is sourced from) in October 2015 which failed. And then the earliest screenshots we have of Alpha 1 dates back to December 2015 and the earliest screenshots of Alpha 2 (a.k.a. Alpha 1.5) dates back to July 2016. So the game was in development for a long time and changed directions many times. By the way, I did make a full-game-ish fan game inspired by the alphas called "Hello Neighbor: Alternative Reality" if you ever wanna check that out. It's not perfect, but it shows what I think the full game should have been, gameplay wise.
the development behind this game is so interesting. like i learned alpha 2 was basically done before the pre alpha was even released (thanks to one of your videos lol) and it really makes me think... this game was doomed the second tinybuild took over. im actually glad to see a comment from you cause i actually was planning to make a video about alternative reality and why its AMAZING. but i kept finding more and more games i wanted to talk about and that vid later became this one. i wanted to separate fan games, mods, and recreations of lost builds into their own videos. i actually still have the script for the video centered entirely around hnar. im still gonna make a vid about it. the only reason i hadn't yet was because i was waiting for hidden spirits to come out. but now that the demo is out i can finally get back to work! also if you dont mind me asking, how do you know so much info about the dates of these builds and stuff? cause i love hearing about the development history of games and id be happy to learn more

@@NateEMG ahhh me too! ive been around since the pre-alpha was released. although back then i was young and honestly i didnt really get into the development behind hello neighbor until about a year ago. but im also REALLY facinated by pre-release content. speaking of which, thanks for uploading a lot of the early videos and stuff and making them public. ive learned a lot from em. and thank you for making alternative reality. i was looking for a full version of the game hello neighbor should've been for a while, and the only two really good ones i can find are your game and hidden spirits. you and owen did an amazing job on your respective games. all we need now is a remake of all the features advertised in the kickstarter and id be complete lmao
Basement chase was cut cause it was so scripted what developers can't import this without scripts so they canceled this idea, so sad, you can play alpha 1.5 recreation then you can try on you own this version with basement chase!
The lack of a basement is odd to me since I have an older build of the Prototype by GoldenSkies that features an entire basement and ending, But lacks in Some features on the one you played, Like the Furniture movement, Close chase animations and several sounds like the pass-by and the tomato splat.
i remember playing those old versions back around a year ago when goldenskies was still called dynamic light. the reason i was surprised that moving furniture was a feature was because i knew it wasn't in the old versions. the tomato in the full build of that old version also didn't work, which sucked cause it worked fine before. this new build is way better imo and WAYYY less buggy but i do wish there was something more than the well done text
@@BonnieFan69 that prototype remake has it's own history lmao I remember seeing a pre final build of that game that only had minor differences such as a main menu and the hammer and key being in a different position when you pick it up
@@coinstudiosmoviescartoonsa1978 i think it was completely remade cause i remember playing the old builds that had the basement and the nightmare sequence with the car. crazy that it could get its own video lmao
Indeed. But with the final product, it was very trippy. It’s a 6.5/10. Or had some good moments, but it was an overall confusing mess. And even after all the other releases, things didn’t get better from there.
the most unnerving feeling about the prototype build is the A2 note at the beginning. the sound design in all of the builds throughout HN has been a huge aspect in the horror theme of the game. that to me makes the game better
Really good video from you man I’ve seen the rdr2 ones and had a love for hello neighbour back in the day and now but yeah hella good and something really interesting to me tbh UA-cams been somewhat dry but this was refreshing best of luck
Hello Neighbor and how the franchise ended up today will forever be one of the most tragic things I’ve ever seen. I was so excited for this game, even when the entire redesign happened and still, I ended up disappointed with how the final game turned out. I still get pretty excited when I see all the prerelease builds up to alpha 4 and it sucks to say that we most likely never will get the stealth game we were promised. I may have misunderstood this off handed comment, but barricading doors are actually a thing present in the final game. While it’s not through moving furniture, you can block doors with a chair which will lead the neighbor to bash the door 3 times before knocking it open. If you also manage to stack enough objects in front of the door to the point where it can’t fully swing open, the game will also deem it barricaded and will lead the neighbor to bash the door in 3 times again before forcing the door to swing and sending all the object obstructing the door flying everywhere. Chair barricading was also present in alpha 1 where the neighbor would literally knock the door off its hinges just to catch you, you can even pick the door up if you manage to evade him. Just got to the part where it’s revealed that the art change was made way before in development and am now confident that this game should’ve stayed a dynamic pixels production.
@@j4ymoon im aware barricading doors is a feature of the final game, which i probably should have mentioned in the vid. but specifically i was talking about being able to drag furniture and use it to block doors, which did kind of make an appearance in alpha 3 onwards since doors actually had physics starting in that version. from a gameplay standpoint though i think blocking doors with objects and the neighbor being able to break through is a better mechanic than just blocking a door off entirely. i mean it could work but only if the neighbors ai was trained to counter that, which the pre alpha is an example that it was not, at least that early on in development. clearly they dropped it pretty quick after the pre alpha though. it was shocking to me too that the artstyle change happened well before the pre alpha, and afaik alpha 1.5 was created around the time or right after tinybuild took over as publisher, which they later on decided to change the artstyle, youd need nateemg to confirm that though lol
@@BonnieFan69 also the neighbour not being the goofiest being to exist on earth. In older versions he was stoic, rarely glitched out and was unstoppable
No, they just wanted that game theory video lol. They loved lore and wanted what FNAF was getting. Making them forget the gameplay itself along the way.
TinyBuild was invited bc budget reasons, but they demanded major changes so they could go viral and get a GT video, so basically yeah TinyBuild ruined HN
The atmostphere in the prototype is extremely scary since it is so minimalistic and you can just feel that the neighbor knows you are in his home and is one step ahead you
Yeah and the old near sound as well (not the one from the pre-alpha) is terrifying. Then when the neighbor sees you and you hear his footsteps first before the music starts.
6:55 okay this part made me jump. He was at the corners of my peripheral vision. I now know why the developers of the game reduced his walk speed in alpha 1...
dream game: alpha 1 house but with altered layout (easier for neighbor to navigate, maybe a full pre alpha house?) and the alpha 2 cutscenes with the car and objectives and the alpha 2 model and hello neighbor 2 climbing. would be awesome
I agree! Although I would prefer it without the player model bc I feel the hands and everything just kinda gets in the way. I think they should have just revisited Alpha 1 by fixing bugs, adding depth to the story, adding some more puzzles to enlong the game (third floor, basement, etc), and boom - it's literally the perfect horror game.
Prototype: nikita confirmed it was never build, and he said it was early stage pre alpha Alpha 1.5: tinybuild confirmed its a beta buggy version of alpha 2, with the basement chase being scripted, ineditor gameplay. Although at some point the project file was leaked in 2016 but sadly nowhere to be found. Devgamm: it was just the blender animation and was given out by nikita a couple months ago Ai rundown: it was made when the kickstarter was made for testing purposes
7:39 the old running animation , was so unique and realistic. im so utterly disappointed at it that i gasped and how much better the running/grabbing feature and detail the neighbor had. as someone who loved this game so much when i was younger , its just saddening.
In the Pre-Alpha the neighbor actually will eat, he'll take stuff from the fridge and sit at the table. I've witnessed it and have a video on my channel showcasing his idle mode from a few years back when I had a hyperfixation
oh trust me, im in the same boat. i know all of his idle tasks from the pre-alpha. alpha 1 is where my knowledge fell short though cause unlike the pre-alpha and alpha 2 it wasn't as easy to spy on him
@ Finally played HN AR after watching your video and honestly I really loved the basement and the first act, I thought they were great and genuinely terrifying, the stealth was perfect and the sound design was peak. Actually, the puzzles weren't too bad either; I loved the story too. I think its first half is better than the full game, and definitely what I had hoped Hello Neighbor would become. I did NOT enjoy the act with the Alpha 1 house though, and it brought the game down a decent amount for me. It is more frustrating and annoying than fun for me because its just the same puzzles as the first stage albeiit harder to solve due to the house's size, the little bit of parkour is kind of jank and gives me full game bad flashbacks. Dealing with the Neighbor ruining your progress as well in that level is a genuine nightmare and to solve it I had to look up a walkthrough because it doesn't hint at what to do wel enough. I don't think having to look a walkthrough means good game design. It ruined the Alpha 1 house.
It’s VERY hard for you to get the neighbor to do this, but in the Prototype remake, the neighbor will throw the chair through the window to chase you if you are running and get it to trigger which is very hard to do but yeah. But also GREAT video like really enjoyable!!
This video is really great! I should check these games out (and the Ai Rundown Mod). The DevGAMM remake is different due to the Neighbor using his HN2 model, and those aren't his animations so it makes sense why his teeth are like that (because thats his tpose face). The player on the other hand is just Quentin's model ans animations from either Hello Hiest Alpha 1 - Hello Neighbor 2 Alpha 1 or HN2 Alpha 1.5 - HN2 Alpha 2 (ehich was an unreleased build too). Also, like almost everyone is talking... were is Early Prototype? That counts as a build.. right? Anyway, I'm waiting for the next one!
the Well done! text actually appears in an early build of the prototype we have (not a build it's viewport gameplay meaning the game wasn't built it was an in-engine test.) the text itself was in russian
It seems they were initially going for a more immersive-sim style game. Lots of interactivity, complexity, and different ways to solve problems. Sad they didn't stick with it.
loved this video , everything you said was basically how most of us feel. if not all of us! everything just seems lost now , nothing makes sense none of the lore or anything anymore. its so so disappointing
Looking back on the development of Hello Neighbor never fails to make me sad :( I've been around since the Kickstarter days so I saw the game get ruined in real time and while I don't necessarily hate the final game it wasn't the game I knew it could be, I tried to start up a project called "Hello William" that I worked on two different times, the first time being a mod and the second time being a fan game, the project was meant to make the game that I thought Hello Neighbor should've been and I actually ended up getting a team and we had a lot of cool ideas that were actually getting developed during the fangame but I encountered difficulties working on the project due to inexperience and some stuff that really stressed me out and I just couldn't really handle it sadly, but I'd still love to make it one day if I ever find some more devs who'd be willing to help me make either Hello William or maybe even our own thing, but we'll see. Hello Neighbor has always been quite odd to me because while everybody says it's a bad game and that it's awful and stuff like that, it's oddly the only game that seems to get me any sort of views on my youtube channel, while other games I've done playthroughs on barely even reach 20 views on the first week lol, so me and some other youtubers who have started out with playing this strange neighbor game have this weird situation where the game has kind of leached itself onto us and it honestly drives me insane because I want to do playthroughs and walkthroughs on games I want to play but they end up not getting the views that Hello Neighbor normally gets, so it's an odd issue that I don't really know how to solve :p but anyway sorry for the long comment I just wanted to share some thoughts I've been having on Hello Neighbor because I've been on a giant Hello Neighbor nostalgia watch and your video so happened to be the one I landed on, so thank you for making this video and showing off some cool fangames and mods! 👍
I 100% agree that the original art style of the game especially Alpha 2 is alot more put together and alot better all around. The final game just felt janky and totally unfinished. It shouldn't even be considered to be a horror game anymore
Researching the development of this game for myself for pure appreciation for the original concept and alphas is really fun and interesting. While I don't think we will ever get one of these builds any time soon, they just demonstrate how much they destroyed up this game. Luckly fangames like these help to fill the niche of the original concept if it was finished to some degree, Alternative Reality being an example.
I agree, when tiny build hopped on, the game was completely ruined. I wish they would recreate these versions. DynamicPixels should let us play all of the versions we couldn't, like the DevGAMM, Early Prototype, Prototype Beta, Prototype, AI Rundown, Alpha 1.5, the early footage of alpha 3, Alpha 3.5, and the Pre-Release, but you can get the Pre Release if you turn off your Wi-Fi, delete hello neighbor from your xbox, take the disc out, and put it back in. I really wish we had these versions public.
Problem is DevGAMM was just a blender Animation concept for hello Neighbor by Nikita. The Early Prototype is probably lost but its models still exist online. I think nikita once said the Prototype build was lost and pre-alpha is just a recreation i think. Alpha 1.5 is probably lost too from it being upgraded to the "Hello Neighbor Alpha 2", i think they might have presaves (probably is gone from how long its been) and the early footage of alpha 3 is just modern Alpha 3 but its daylight. Alpha 3.5 is basically the same gone-case like alpha 1.5, although a save file might exist but its probably gone from how long it's been (about 7 years???) Also there was a early unpolished, uncoloured and unfinished house for the prealpha that just got unused and left in the folders. Imagine how cool it wouldve been if we got that as a complete build. And there was an alpha 0.5 kinda production plan map, with an early model version screenshot of the alpha 1 map in miniature (planning) and it was much different than the alpha 1 we got. Jeez. And all that remains of devgamm is the neighbor's old model or screenshot of a clear version of him, video, audio sources used (but the devgamm chase theme is unknown as it probably came from stock, but the pre alpha/prototype chase music also debuted there, in devgamm. Which was made by nikita) and a screenshot of the full devgamm map survives also with a production plan map of devgamm which shows the neighbour's house was supposed to have 4 floors atleast. Anyway, this is too much info, heres a tldr, theres more unreleased content dynamic pixels didnt release back then
You can see this combined mess for a brief moment when sleeping/getting caught. You can purposefully be seen immediately by turning on a tv on your bed and sleeping, and then you have this.
Hello Neighbor seriously could’ve been a classic if we got something more rooted in the old alphas with the realistic art style, the sound design of the announcement trailer and something that resembled an actual stealth horror game rather than a weird puzzle platformer. Hello Neighbor is an example of why you don’t solely focus on FGTeev and milking letsplays and theory videos.
Hello Neighbor started off great, focusing on the gameplay loop and the AI, and it was all ruined by one comment. Someone posted that they felt uncomfortable playing as a thief who broke into someone's house, which is fine, it's not the game for you. But then the developers responded with a cryptic message alluding to the Neighbor being a bad guy, and that was what lead to all of the lore and mystery that they admitted LED TO NOWHERE! The paintings, the clues, the references to christianity and demons, it was all just filler because they didn't have a mystery in mind for the game. They admitted that Matt Patt's theory is good and that they had no plan aside from the AI. I'm not blaming that commenter for how the game turned out, people are allowed to share their opinions on whatever they want. But, the developers could have ignored that comment and moved on with the people who were there for the gameplay, but instead they hyper focused on this comment and changed the whole trajectory of their game because one person said they felt uncomfortable.
Dude i doubt a single comment changed the game's direction, pretty sure the real reason is because dynamic pixels (devs) had a kickstarter for the game, it failed, mostly just because of the lack of popularity. had they released the pre alpha during the kickstarter or before it started, i bet the game would have taken off and actually become what it was going to become. + they had people like old members of the team spreading slanderous information about them. after this tinybuild got it off the ground, but stripped everything interesting from the game like the self learning AI. really I feel bad for nikita, his dream project never amounted to much, but his new game RBO seems to be the closest thing to what HN was going to become, it includes multiplayer which is what he wanted to do for the game.
i figured. ive never experienced it with the pre-alpha and this is the only time i've seen it. since i caught it on recording here i figured i might as well mention it
@@BonnieFan69 i saw a video about Pre Alpha speedruns, and it said that if you throw an item at the wall before the variations disappear, it will alert the neighbor and for some reason cause the glitch
unpopular Opinion. I actually like the full game version that came out on steam. Yeah I know how could I possibly like it? Well I personally like the story. And it seems to be something that the devs were fiddling with the idea with in the alphas. And changed over time. And I still like it.
I remember me and my older brother being so hiped for this game, we saw theorys and gameplays and it was fun. Then after the second alpha we lost interest and forgot about it. Until i revisited a few years ago. This game had potential but instead the game turn out bad
Sad to see that these versions are honestly better than the full game, tinybuild should’ve stayed with the original story and original art style instead of coming up with dumb shit and making it cartoonish (I do love alpha 2 though obviously)
The only one of these fan-games I've played was the prototype remaster, but I'm definitely checking them all out now! It looks like the Alpha 1.5 mod got an update just a few days ago as well
I’ll like the original idea for Hello Neighbor. It was more adult. It had cussing you know very adult themes, but were kids was watching them. It turned into kids game.
prototype build can never be released. it was overwritten presumably with pre alpha sometime in 2015-2016. some reminants that survived can be seen in the pre alphas game files tho. which is how golden skies's remake is so accurate he prob used some of those files
@@c4rbin if i remember correctly, the pre alpha was created sometime in mid to late 2015, and much like the prototype was not meant to be released to the public. but yeah, a lot of the prototypes assets are in the files for the pre alpha. but even then golden skies had to probably recreate a lot of stuff from scratch, like the map, lighting, and ai. and it turned out really accurate.
Hello Neighbor never had a realistic artstyle. It was always blatantly cartoony, and that's evident just from looking at the Neighbor himself. I agree that the graphical quality (lighting and shadows, texture detail and reaolution etc.) was better in the early alphas than the full game, and I also enjoy the retro aesthetic of the early alphas as well, but to act like the actual artsyle of the full game isn't better is insane. The full game artstyle is unique and recognisible-- the overexaggerated, broken and wobbly proportions of all the objects add to the bizarre atmosphere and make even the most mundane objects look interesting. The early alpha artstyle was full of stock models that weren't even made by the devs, it wasn't consistent with itself and for the most part, looked extremely boring. The Hello Nieghbor 2 Full Game artstyle, imo, is the best HN has ever looked. It's a perfect blend of "detailed" and "cartoony", and has both beautiful lighting AND the bizarre proportions
honestly, i somewhat agree. the hello neighbor full game artstyle isnt bad. but it doesn't fit with what the game was trying to be. a stealth horror game. i mean if they focused more on the neighbor himself rather than making the house wacky for the sake of being wacky, it could've worked. it goes beyond the artstyle to be honest. the early alphas weren't good just because of it. there's a mod for the full version of hello neighbor that completely overhauls the artstyle and reverts it back to pre-alpha/alpha 1. even then, it doesn't make the game good. the game is fundamentally flawed that just a change in artstyle wasn't the sole cause of. the artstyle is only a small piece of it. but it does in my opinion change the mood of the game quite a bit. it goes from "creepy guys house" to "huh it looks like im in a cartoon funhouse". the old artstyle did a better job at building the mood imo. the new one is very unique but it fits more with what they turned hello neighbor into rather than what it was intended to be. it just doesn't look like a stealth horror game to me. alpha 2 was a good middle ground with the artstyle in my opinion before things got too extreme. some of it has to do with the lighting as well though, because in the full game it's way too bright. also yes, i do agree hello neighbor 2 looks A LOT better than hn1. they made use of that cartoony artstyle better there imo
The trees are indeed, not created by the developers. But most textures such as wood, wallpapers, patterns like TVs, furniture,.. Really looked like it was created by the developers. The game was probably originally supposed to be a horror game with a certain touch of dark comedy, hence its already somewhat caricatured style. The neighbor was insulting, which made the game more "funny", making the situations less scary, there was also an inflatable doll of a naked woman in a concept art, with the old style by the way ! But there were also his biblical references, the satanic side of the neighbor which really kept this horror aspect. Hello Neighbor could have been very original with this artistic style, neither realistic nor cartoonish, but a mixture of the two, something both surreal and realistic. And yes, the first versions had a very retro look, apart from the date that the Spanish man said on TV (the 90s) the game seemed to take place in the 60s.
I would like to mention even though the looks are cartoony and the puzzles are impossible there is still cool lore and after you have beaten it it’s fun to mess around with. It isn’t very family friendly if you know the lore.
13:35 - The creator of the franchise himself, Nikita, stated he wanted the game to look more unique, but if tinyBuild blaming is the ideal here, alright
@@TheShape45 i was saying that more directed toward the artstyle, but yes im assuming the puzzles were under nikitas direction, and during one of his streams where he replays hn1 he says the "proper way" to do the rifle range puzzle to get the red key is to literally restart the game from your last checkpoint. soo...
Really great and rewatchable video I really like when people try to pay homage to when Hello Neighbor was good The Prototype is a really good 1 to 1 remake of the Prototype, would love to see more games that expand upon it and include the moving furniture mechanic Though there is one thing that makes this build absolutely unplayable and it's not the missing plates in the room with the hammer IT'S THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE TO HOLD RIGHT CLICK AND THEN PRESS LEFT CLICK TO THROW ITEMS Literal unplayable dogsh*t Seriously though, I actually had frustrating time with the fact because the laptop that has a very basic and flat mouse pad that I used to play the game does is not properly compatible with that function That is more so console issue but I thought it'd be funny to talk about this way no less Had a good time with Alpha 1.5 I did unfortunately had to lower the quality because my game was lagging for some reason, guess my laptop can't run so many things at once Fun Fact: DenixMar made a Hello Neighbor VHS tape video that was a supposed teaser that showcases his own take on what's behind the door at the end of the labyrinth The Devgamm remake's alright, there's nothing much to talk about, I found some rooms that weren't in the Devgamm or weren't explored that much but I didn't really find any "secret" that was interesting Also about that hand design I hate the remake's hand, that hand looks skinny as f*ck, it almost looks like salad fingers, at least the original hand looked like he was wearing a glove One more thing, about the artstyle changing before the Pre-Alpha was released I'm not that surprised because I felt like the game was doomed to be bad because of Pre-Alpha and Alpha 1 having absurdly big houses, not as big a Alpha 3-Beta 3/Act 3 but still huge enough that I can't really see it as being normal, further reinforced by the Alpha 1 house with robo shark, train and colorful looks on the outside (That last point was made by AnomalousDucky But yeah it's a shame that TinyBuild changed the already perfect and fitting artstyle for the game before it was even popular
the hand in the original devgamm looked like mario's ngl to this day my favorite build of hello neighbor is the pre-alpha. its honestly a shame that the build that wasn't even meant to be released publically is the best one. the pre-alpha of course looks like shit and crashes every 5 minutes, but i love the mechanics. honestly the pre-alpha could've been amazing if the house was finished. it wasn't insanely big or wacky and i imagine the neighbor wouldn't have a hard time navigating it if it was desgined well. the house is big but not so big to the point where it's unrealistic. not to mention the superb sound design, the ambience in the pre-alpha was amazing. alpha 1 is objectively better gameplay wise but the pre-alpha just has some magic to it that no version after it could ever capture.
@@BonnieFan69 What's wrong with Mario hands though? But yeah, The Pre-Alpha is honestly the best with horror gameplay wise, really like the random events system where parts of the house make subtle changes, really adds to the creep factor How are you doing with the making of that part 2 you planned to make?
@@InternetFanatic something i really liked from the pre alpha that was never seen again was the house variants. it almost felt like the neighbors sanity was slipping more and more as we continuously broke into his house. like with random stacks of chairs, trash cans, and vases blocking hallways and the room layouts slowly becoming more abnormal was a really cool idea and its a shame it never got revitalized as far as part 2 of this specific series goes, im putting it on hold for now since there's something else i wanted to talk about that actually led to the creation of this video. a hello neighbor fan game basically centered around the original concept of the pre alpha and alpha 1. hopefully it should be out within the next week, if all goes well. the videos talking about fan games might be scrapped since two of the three fangames i wanted to talk about are getting their own full videos (which my next vid is about one of them). the mods for the actual hello neighbor will definitely get a video in the future though, since there are a lot of good ones worth talking about even if they still have the hello neighbor jank there's a whole essay there but ill explain better in a video down the line. long story short i have my eye on a few hello neighbor fan games that are reimaginings of the pre alpha and i definitely wanna talk about them at one point or another
@@BonnieFan69 there's one hn 1 mod that I think you'll enjoy, Vernon Street by AnonymousDucky, it takes everything good about Alpha 3 (the haunted house ambience, including the demonic laughter in that one room, as well as a train announcement that can be heard from time to time, the constant thundering, etc) and puts them in a more cohesive environment, not a perfect mod at all, but by far my favorite hn 1 mod of all time.
@@BonnieFan69 I personally recommend a mod named Vernon Street, it takes things from alpha 3 that could've worked and places them in a more cohesive environment, definitely my favorite hn 1 mod for sure
Also toe things. 1 cocosco is a great modder if you’ve ever watched dakblake (especially the switched roles mod) but also why does it seem everyone try’s to outrun the neighbor? The whole point is to go snack to your house where he can’t chase you
I love all the hello neighbor games and the full release because its not kid friendly in the full release cuz you saw the neighbor crying in a hospital it a dream IN THE GAME
The worst part is, the second game’s teaser actually looked good, incredibly. The sad part is, the final project sucks. Like, mega sucks. Almost worse than the first game. A series of unnecessary disappointment.
as much as id like to believe this, until the game we were promised comes out, i highly doubt it. i feel like tinybuild and dynamic pixels had a different idea in mind of what game they wanted and/or the concept was too ambitious for their capabilities so they did what was within their abilities. from what it seems everything went downhill once tinybuild got involved
The prototype remake did actually have a version with the basement but it's not on gamejolt and I can't find it anywhere else. Does someone have a link or something?
Theres actually another really accurate prototype remake. Even though its scripted, its pretty much exactly like the trailer (if you go along qith the script)

@@NateEMG ahhh me too! ive been around since the pre-alpha was released. although back then i was young and honestly i didnt really get into the development behind hello neighbor until about a year ago. but im also REALLY facinated by pre-release content. speaking of which, thanks for uploading a lot of the early videos and stuff and making them public. ive learned a lot from em. and thank you for making alternative reality. i was looking for a full version of the game hello neighbor should've been for a while, and the only two really good ones i can find are your game and hidden spirits. you and owen did an amazing job on your respective games. all we need now is a remake of all the features advertised in the kickstarter and id be complete lmao

i love you nate
You dont even know how much i love cut and unreleased content. HN is full of it, which is why i love it.

Alpha 1.5 is the best version, no way they saw this and pushed it aside, WHY DID THEY CUT THE BASEMENT CHASE???
It’s in the full game, act 1

Not that garbage
@@WrathVirusOfficial okay
Basement chase was cut cause it was so scripted what developers can't import this without scripts so they canceled this idea, so sad, you can play alpha 1.5 recreation then you can try on you own this version with basement chase!
I’m glad you can at least explore the basement with some cheats. But yeah the chase woulda been cool

I no doubt agree. The idea of Hello Neighbor was good, but it was the way it was executed that really ruined it.
that's the only reason i like Hello Neighbor, for the fangames, pre-release builds, and the CONCEPT
Indeed. But with the final product, it was very trippy.
It’s a 6.5/10. Or had some good moments, but it was an overall confusing mess. And even after all the other releases, things didn’t get better from there.
This video should have more views
the most unnerving feeling about the prototype build is the A2 note at the beginning. the sound design in all of the builds throughout HN has been a huge aspect in the horror theme of the game. that to me makes the game better
Somehow old versions are just scarier
@@stargate1552 in my opinion it was a clash of the artstyle, the mystery, and the ambience

Dynamic Pixels had the talent, the money, the good pr, everything they needed. I think someone clearly sabotaged the game, it's the only explanation.
No, they just wanted that game theory video lol. They loved lore and wanted what FNAF was getting. Making them forget the gameplay itself along the way.
Wasn't the reason they contacted tiny build because of the budget, idk for sure

There's a fan-game called "Hello Neighbor: Alternative Reality" which mostly fits your description of what a dream game would be like
I kinda prefer alpha 1 objectives tbh
@@senmors4826 i meant the beginning where you can exit the car and unlock your house
Prototype: nikita confirmed it was never build, and he said it was early stage pre alpha
Alpha 1.5: tinybuild confirmed its a beta buggy version of alpha 2, with the basement chase being scripted, ineditor gameplay. Although at some point the project file was leaked in 2016 but sadly nowhere to be found.
Devgamm: it was just the blender animation and was given out by nikita a couple months ago
Ai rundown: it was made when the kickstarter was made for testing purposes
There’s a pretty good mod called “The Neighbors Comeback” which is basically a full version of alpha 1 with all the unused concepts put together
7:39 the old running animation , was so unique and realistic.
im so utterly disappointed at it that i gasped and how much better the running/grabbing feature and detail the neighbor had. as someone who loved this game so much when i was younger , its just saddening.
I 1:02 him: “and let’s go say hello to our neighbor.” *2014 hello neighbor spotting/pass-by sound plays* “ok that was scary as DUPPGFJIHFGUj.
It ruined the Alpha 1 house.
when he said long ass time ago i cried a little
It’s VERY hard for you to get the neighbor to do this, but in the Prototype remake, the neighbor will throw the chair through the window to chase you if you are running and get it to trigger which is very hard to do but yeah.
But also GREAT video like really enjoyable!!
16:16 is that frederick fazbearington?
This video is really great! I should check these games out (and the Ai Rundown Mod).
The DevGAMM remake is different due to the Neighbor using his HN2 model, and those aren't his animations so it makes sense why his teeth are like that (because thats his tpose face). The player on the other hand is just Quentin's model ans animations from either Hello Hiest Alpha 1 - Hello Neighbor 2 Alpha 1 or HN2 Alpha 1.5 - HN2 Alpha 2 (ehich was an unreleased build too).

Looking back on the development of Hello Neighbor never fails to make me sad :(
I've been around since the Kickstarter days so I saw the game get ruined in real time and while I don't necessarily hate the final game it wasn't the game I knew it could be, I tried to start up a project called "Hello William" that I worked on two different times, the first time being a mod and the second time being a fan game, the project was meant to make the game that I thought Hello Neighbor should've been and I actually ended up getting a team and we had a lot of cool ideas that were actually getting developed during the fangame but I encountered difficulties working on the project due to inexperience and some stuff that really stressed me out and I just couldn't really handle it sadly, but I'd still love to make it one day if I ever find some more devs who'd be willing to help me make either Hello William or maybe even our own thing, but we'll see.
Hello Neighbor has always been quite odd to me because while everybody says it's a bad game and that it's awful and stuff like that, it's oddly the only game that seems to get me any sort of views on my youtube channel, while other games I've done playthroughs on barely even reach 20 views on the first week lol, so me and some other youtubers who have started out with playing this strange neighbor game have this weird situation where the game has kind of leached itself onto us and it honestly drives me insane because I want to do playthroughs and walkthroughs on games I want to play but they end up not getting the views that Hello Neighbor normally gets, so it's an odd issue that I don't really know how to solve :p
but anyway sorry for the long comment I just wanted to share some thoughts I've been having on Hello Neighbor because I've been on a giant Hello Neighbor nostalgia watch and your video so happened to be the one I landed on, so thank you for making this video and showing off some cool fangames and mods! 👍
I remember the days when it was just alpha 1
I 100% agree that the original art style of the game especially Alpha 2 is alot more put together and alot better all around. The final game just felt janky and totally unfinished. It shouldn't even be considered to be a horror game anymore
bro youre such a cool guy ive always wanted people to make video essays about hello neighbor, it feels like such an undocumented game
10/10 video start
Researching the development of this game for myself for pure appreciation for the original concept and alphas is really fun and interesting.
While I don't think we will ever get one of these builds any time soon, they just demonstrate how much they destroyed up this game.
Luckly fangames like these help to fill the niche of the original concept if it was finished to some degree, Alternative Reality being an example.
Ok so the lighting area the neighbor he can’t really see you in the dark but when it’s more lighter he can see better.
There are hello neighbor fangames, biggest example is NateEMG his game is kinda cool in conpect because everything is a different reality.
Alpha 3.5 is basically the same gone-case like alpha 1.5, although a save file might exist but its probably gone from how long it's been (about 7 years???)
Also there was a early unpolished, uncoloured and unfinished house for the prealpha that just got unused and left in the folders.
Anyway, this is too much info, heres a tldr, theres more unreleased content dynamic pixels didnt release back then
If only the DeLorean time machine was real. I'd make sure tinybuild made hello neighbor good
I love the sounds too a lot
3:27 neighbor saw you immediately somehow when you spawned and that for some reason interupts whatever chooses the presets, so you’re left with this
You can see this combined mess for a brief moment when sleeping/getting caught. You can purposefully be seen immediately by turning on a tv on your bed and sleeping, and then you have this.
Epic video my dude!
golden skies released another prototype version where you can beat the game in the basement
Hey man I love your channel keep up the good work!
The house spawning every house variation is a glitch that happens with Pre-Alpha, it’s not a glitch caused by the mod
i figured. ive never experienced it with the pre-alpha and this is the only time i've seen it. since i caught it on recording here i figured i might as well mention it

unpopular Opinion. I actually like the full game version that came out on steam. Yeah I know how could I possibly like it? Well I personally like the story. And it seems to be something that the devs were fiddling with the idea with in the alphas. And changed over time. And I still like it.

prototype build can never be released. it was overwritten presumably with pre alpha sometime in 2015-2016. some reminants that survived can be seen in the pre alphas game files tho. which is how golden skies's remake is so accurate he prob used some of those files
You forgot one: the early prototype (yes, that was turned into a mod/fanmade remake)

11:12 It looks like a bootleg hello neighbor mobile game
13:35 - The creator of the franchise himself, Nikita, stated he wanted the game to look more unique, but if tinyBuild blaming is the ideal here, alright

Really great and rewatchable video
I really like when people try to pay homage to when Hello Neighbor was good
The Prototype is a really good 1 to 1 remake of the Prototype, would love to see more games that expand upon it and include the moving furniture mechanic
Though there is one thing that makes this build absolutely unplayable and it's not the missing plates in the room with the hammer
IT'S THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE TO HOLD RIGHT CLICK AND THEN PRESS LEFT CLICK TO THROW ITEMS
Literal unplayable dogsh*t
Seriously though, I actually had frustrating time with the fact because the laptop that has a very basic and flat mouse pad that I used to play the game does is not properly compatible with that function
That is more so console issue but I thought it'd be funny to talk about this way no less
Had a good time with Alpha 1.5
I did unfortunately had to lower the quality because my game was lagging for some reason, guess my laptop can't run so many things at once
Fun Fact:
DenixMar made a Hello Neighbor VHS tape video that was a supposed teaser that showcases his own take on what's behind the door at the end of the labyrinth
The Devgamm remake's alright, there's nothing much to talk about, I found some rooms that weren't in the Devgamm or weren't explored that much but I didn't really find any "secret" that was interesting
Also about that hand design I hate the remake's hand, that hand looks skinny as f*ck, it almost looks like salad fingers, at least the original hand looked like he was wearing a glove
One more thing, about the artstyle changing before the Pre-Alpha was released
I'm not that surprised because I felt like the game was doomed to be bad because of Pre-Alpha and Alpha 1 having absurdly big houses, not as big a Alpha 3-Beta 3/Act 3 but still huge enough that I can't really see it as being normal, further reinforced by the Alpha 1 house with robo shark, train and colorful looks on the outside (That last point was made by AnomalousDucky
But yeah it's a shame that TinyBuild changed the already perfect and fitting artstyle for the game before it was even popular
the hand in the original devgamm looked like mario's ngl
to this day my favorite build of hello neighbor is the pre-alpha. its honestly a shame that the build that wasn't even meant to be released publically is the best one. the pre-alpha of course looks like shit and crashes every 5 minutes, but i love the mechanics. honestly the pre-alpha could've been amazing if the house was finished. it wasn't insanely big or wacky and i imagine the neighbor wouldn't have a hard time navigating it if it was desgined well. the house is big but not so big to the point where it's unrealistic. not to mention the superb sound design, the ambience in the pre-alpha was amazing. alpha 1 is objectively better gameplay wise but the pre-alpha just has some magic to it that no version after it could ever capture.
@@BonnieFan69
What's wrong with Mario hands though?
But yeah, The Pre-Alpha is honestly the best with horror gameplay wise, really like the random events system where parts of the house make subtle changes, really adds to the creep factor
How are you doing with the making of that part 2 you planned to make?
@@InternetFanatic something i really liked from the pre alpha that was never seen again was the house variants. it almost felt like the neighbors sanity was slipping more and more as we continuously broke into his house. like with random stacks of chairs, trash cans, and vases blocking hallways and the room layouts slowly becoming more abnormal was a really cool idea and its a shame it never got revitalized
as far as part 2 of this specific series goes, im putting it on hold for now since there's something else i wanted to talk about that actually led to the creation of this video. a hello neighbor fan game basically centered around the original concept of the pre alpha and alpha 1. hopefully it should be out within the next week, if all goes well.
the videos talking about fan games might be scrapped since two of the three fangames i wanted to talk about are getting their own full videos (which my next vid is about one of them). the mods for the actual hello neighbor will definitely get a video in the future though, since there are a lot of good ones worth talking about even if they still have the hello neighbor jank
there's a whole essay there but ill explain better in a video down the line. long story short i have my eye on a few hello neighbor fan games that are reimaginings of the pre alpha and i definitely wanna talk about them at one point or another
@@BonnieFan69 there's one hn 1 mod that I think you'll enjoy, Vernon Street by AnonymousDucky, it takes everything good about Alpha 3 (the haunted house ambience, including the demonic laughter in that one room, as well as a train announcement that can be heard from time to time, the constant thundering, etc) and puts them in a more cohesive environment, not a perfect mod at all, but by far my favorite hn 1 mod of all time.
@@BonnieFan69 I personally recommend a mod named Vernon Street, it takes things from alpha 3 that could've worked and places them in a more cohesive environment, definitely my favorite hn 1 mod for sure

Tip: never let your producers take control
Bro turned Alpha 1.5 into the backrooms level
pls help i cannot get the prototype file working
if tiny build never got ahold of dynamic pixels/eerie guest hello neighbor would of actually been a good game
You forgot one more version Alpha 3.5👍👍
you forgot the early prototype
The prototype is pre alpha
@InfernoBg-yi3wpnope, the original trailer had a completely different house that was known as the prototype house
They purposefully went this shit route, so they can come back and make the Hello Neighbor we were promised, and have 2 big bangs instead of 1
as much as id like to believe this, until the game we were promised comes out, i highly doubt it. i feel like tinybuild and dynamic pixels had a different idea in mind of what game they wanted and/or the concept was too ambitious for their capabilities so they did what was within their abilities. from what it seems everything went downhill once tinybuild got involved
@@BonnieFan69 Despite the fact the series creator having practically full control over the first release...
The prototype remake did actually have a version with the basement but it's not on gamejolt and I can't find it anywhere else. Does someone have a link or something?
@@fluffyboi4411 i played it back then, i dont have the download links anymore i dont think
@BonnieFan69 it's lost media now
I can’t belive the neighbor was gonna swear
the thing is the alpha 1.5 recreation has terrible optimisation, so low end PC people cant even play it (including me) without getting 5 fps max.
Where are the other vids???????
Theres actually another really accurate prototype remake. Even though its scripted, its pretty much exactly like the trailer (if you go along qith the script)
How Do i Set Up The Kokosko one?
you shouldn't have to, you just download it from google drive, extract it, and run it like you would the actual pre alpha
@@BonnieFan69 how the heck did he make it look so good?!?!?
09:43 nice bug lmao
Hopefully, someone finds the original hn2 e3 and Alpha 2 builds
hey, can i ask if anyone knows, what is the story about the golden calf fallens angels and the book?
@@CJXCJ-qd3og most likely placeholder before they actually knew what they were gonna do with the story. but im pretty sure it was supposed to imply the neighbor sold his soul to the devil or something along those lines
Also, there a lot of houses in hn, okay i will say...
The first render house
Early alpha 3 (14 floors)
Alpha 0.5
Early alpha 1 house with all scrapped floors (non textured)
Concept house of alpha 1/second early house alpha 1
Early pre alpha house
Early prototype
Alpha 3.5
I know, this comment will everyone ignore lol
yo bro, u forgot bout da early prototype
that was not really a build just a video shown in the press-kit and is present in only some of the screenshots
@@BuVidOG oh ok
Do hello neighbor 2 alpha 2
Can you make more red dead unfinished content plz
very good video rated 5 starz :)
You should check out the new 1.5 version of the alpha 1.5 remake, its a lot more accurate
Hey
AYYY !!
Honestly, I feel like the art style of alpha 2 and onwards is a bit overhated.
I saw a house when a was going on a field trip on middle school and it kinda looked like Gumball’s house!
You should play hello neighbor diablos circus
i played this prodotype
That intro is so real 💀
I barely play this now
