He was self-taught and couldn't read or write music. He played totally by sound and pitch. He was a savant, a phenomenon and is sorely missed by millions who still listen to him today. His music transcends time. People will still be listening to him another 30+ years from now. That's why he is the Greatest Of All Time.
GOAT! I was at Stevie Ray Vaughn's last concert the night his helicopter crashed after the show at Alpine Valley, Wisconsin August 26th 1990. The next morning when I heard the horrible news was one of the saddest days of my life. The fog was so bad that we stopped and got a hotel room. The lineup was SRV, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray and Buddy Guy. RIP SRV!
I'm addicted to watching people react to SRV. This is the reaction I look for. Great reaction... The El Mocambo is located in Toronto. Quite the hot spot in the 80's...
You really want to be impressed, it's not just SRV's playing, but rather what other players had to say about the man... When they are as astounded as you were, it will finally hit home how amazing Stevie really was for a guy who couldn't read music.
The guitar was an extension of his body. No one today can do what he did. He was obsessed with it no one today will/can put that time in to be that good. SRV is THE G.O.A.T.
Stevie Ray is a true GOAT. This is arguably the best blues guitar performance ever recorded. I was lucky enough to see him play live twice, never forget it.
One of my biggest regrets in my entire life is that I never got to see him play live!!! I think I had one opportunity to see him live but I can't remember why I didn't go. It was shortly before he died!!! Like all of his fans, I was so upset when he passed!!!
I would like to see any guitar performance that’s better ! Any genre any time anywhere. This can be listened to over and over again . Not really a fan either, but I am.
I knew of SRV but discovered his music @ the start of the Pandemic! Searching for music to listen to when the news got to be too much! SRV self-taught and gifted! And don't forget Double Trouble! Stevie Chris and Tommy what a combination! Love the reaction!
Life Without You at the Capitol theater in Passaic NJ. His song written for his. friend Charley Wirz. Best vocal,, great solo and beautiful message. You won't be disappointed.
You should see what Stevie Ray does with the 1989 performance of "Mary Had A Little Lamb." The band's keyboardist, Reese Wynans, does an awesome solo, too.
Of course he practiced it. He played guitar pretty much all day every day. My brother -in-law went to the same high school, and he said he brought his guitar to school every day and fell asleep in class because he’d been playing at clubs half the night. He had amazing natural ability, was taught by his big brother, practiced and played most of the day, took his guitar everywhere, loved it, and went humbly asking the old blues masters to show him things… He got real good. He never ran out of ideas. He never hit a dead end. Music just flowed through him. I was lucky enough to see him play many times in Dallas and Austin.
The El Mocambo is a club in Toronto Canada. I was brought to this show (underaged) by my audio engineering instructor. I had no idea what was in store, but what a night! Not at all the kind of music I was listening to at the time and it truly changed me. Wherever you are today Mark, I will never be able thank you enough!
In honor of Stevie Ray Vaughan, August 27 will mark 32 years since we lost him💔 would you please react to Life Without You live from The Capitol Theater?
Think on this, that's just ONE song of an entire show with each song being played to this same intensity! If you look in the left background you will see his backup rack of guitars as he frequently shredded strings and had the smoothest change overs never missing a beat!!
"Life Without You" is my favorite and you would be doing yourself a favor checking out "Tin Pan Alley" with Johnny Copeland RIP Stevie ❤️ Stevie Ray Vaughan always gets views and likes~
You were right to go back and view it again. Notice: Not only does he flip the guitar to behind his back, but, in one smooth move, he unplugs the instrument, spins around, and plugs it back in again. He never even had to look at it!
And as amazing as this performance is, Stevie Ray brought it up to another level when he performed "Life Without You" live at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, NJ in 1985. Let's just put it this way: during his performance on "Life Without You" that night, Stevie Ray lost a tooth. You need to react to it so you can see why he lost a tooth while playing guitar!
Another one that would blow you guys away is called “life without you”at the Capitol theater Passaic New Jersey 1985. I promise you will not be disappointing!
Yeah, NOW you know why he was the GOAT! A couple of other performances for you to check out: Life Without You at the Capital Theater, Tin Pan Alley at the Loreley Music Festival. Don't substitute other performances of these songs - these are the best. Plenty of other songs for you to react to as well!
SRV ~ 🎸🐐 THE goat of all goats Stevie's main man was Albert King, but he learned some of his stage presence from Jimi. (Of course, Jimi learned it from guys like T-Bone Walker and Buddy Guy) Stevie and Jimi just took the stage "tricks" to whole other level. **Life Without You at Capitol Theater ** **Tightrope at Austin City 1989**
Budy Guy is the best overall live blues experience I (personally) ever had. at Milwaukee's Summer Fest back in 1994. I saw Stevie at the same festival 8 years earlier when he opened up for his bro's band The Fab. Thunderbirds in '86. First time I ever saw or heard him. I was quite something.
Subbed. Life Without You, live at Capitol theater is another where he pulls out all the stops, PLUS he deliveres words of wisdom in a talk during the song. It's my favorite SRV performance.
Yes ~! He makes me just have to Smile...... Someone said his voice is honey over gravel.... When the calluses on his fingertips began to bleed and come off, he'd secure them with Super Glue !! His guitar was with him ALL the TIME so he could practice. May I suggest another reactor, Sebs Duran "Finally Listening to SRV for the First Time -- Texas FLood" BECAUSE he also is struck speechless and then when he does speak....well, I think you men will feel he is simpatico with your reaction --- both of you Quality !
According to his bassist, this was his best ever, he also was medically roused from a cocaine induced coma an hour before the show. Hence the extra notes and extra sweat.
@@andaimhineach4131 His bandmates were really worried about him and they were watching him like hawks for any indication that he was going to have a heart attack. The large amounts of cocaine explain all his sweating.
@@andaimhineach4131 Stevie Ray ALWAYS had part of himself in another world... and it still showed in his playing all four years clean and sober after rehab, till the Lord took him home suddenly in late August of 1990 when that helicopter crashed.
One of his band mates said it was a small venue and the lights made it even hotter. Then add a hat that doesn't allow heat to escape. I think any performer that played like he did would be just as sweaty.
It is said that when he was young he practiced so much he pulled the skin of his fingers, so he glued them back with superglue so he could practice more. RIP SRV.
Thanks, guys- this is widely considered his best live performance.. and especially this song.. but SRV had so many greats.. if you have time & inclination, check out "Look at Little sister" - great example of how even a broken string doesn't kill his rhythm.. (and also: Reese Wynans on keyboards is astounding...).. ua-cam.com/video/3woPVQExDsQ/v-deo.html

El Mocambo is a nightclub in Toronto, Canada known for having famous musicians and celebrities turn up for a small crowd, think Rolling Stones and politician's run--away wife, and Marilyn Monroe as a few examples.
Eric Clapton said he was driving down the road and heard Stevie on the radio. He said he pulled over and said I've got to know before the nights over who that guitar player is. The last concert he played was with Eric Clapton and others in Alpine valley Wisconsin. He flew out in a helicopter it crashed and he was killed instantly.
Here is another good one you should check out it is the sky is crying with Stevie Ray, BB King, Albert King and Paul Butterfield I think you will enjoy it
You should see the guitar aftervhe used it playing a cover of Jimi Hendrix' song "Third Stone From The Sun." The song's about a space ship visiting earth. And what Stevie does to produce the alien sounds of the ship and the atmosphere of the visit, takes its toll on that poor guitar (may it rest in peace).
He was short in stature 5"5" but a giant on the stage. GOAT, rip. Check out Jeff Healey See The Light then SRV and Jeff Healey Look Little Sister. SRV found Healey in a club in Canada. They became fast friends.
Good one! You can't scratch your own back properly, and he plays like that! 😂Steve, needed to find a way to impress the crowd, like JIMI HENDRIX, made it, because STEVE, was, probably, one of the greatest fan of JIMI HENDRIX, who played with their teeth, behind his neck, between his legs, burning his guitar, etc..... But, what you saw that, is, just, what happened to all the greatest guitar heros of history! If you wanna see another guitarist discovered by SRV . Check out Jeff Healey - I see the light (night music) 1988... Jeff Healey is blind. Lost his eyesight to cancer at about 2 yr old. Check him out, he has a really unique way of playing the guitar. You'll be blown away by Jeff Healey.
