I passed on an opportunity to see him play live the night he was killed.
I lived 45 minutes away from Alpine Valley Music Theater, but I have an aversion to large crowds.
It is my one true regret that I did not overcome my fear.....
I second that because I did attend 2 SRV concerts. The first Jeff Beck opened for him in Detroit. The second was at the Kalamazoo County Fair the weekend he died. My ears were still ringing Monday morning when I heard on the car radio that he had passed. I had to pull over and recompose myself and wipe away my tears. I would add he is the greatest guitar player I have ever heard. There are many guitar players from the past that I have heard on records or on the radio. I have heard so many of them and SRV is the greatest.

Try his live performance "Life Without You" at Capitol Theatre...he wrote the song for a friend who had died...it shows off Stevies vocals and a different side to his skills...nothing he couldnt do, even his SOUNDCHECK is frickin amazing!!
Definately up there with the legends...cudv been as big as Elvis i believe had he lived...a unique, very humble charismatic guy, totally self taught & was true to his band & those around him..very loyal & kind. 30 yrs after his early death he's still the GOAT in his arena 🥰🤘🏼
I love Kel's intensity as she studies what she's listening to, but watching her face when that guitar went to the back was probably the funniest thing I've seen this week. That was a moment worth waiting for. ;-)

My favorite of all time the one and only STEVIE RAY VAUGHN!!! 💜💜💜 Can you imagine the endurance he had doing these shows he put everything he had in his performances. A God gifted talented man. You are in for a big treat if you keep checking out STEVIE RAY VAUGHN, he was just an amazing human being very kind and humble just had love and passion for music like no one I've seen before. By the way, STEVIE'S guitar setup was so difficult most people would shred their fingers trying to play it and to think he played his shows for hours!!!!

Serious bluues - Stevie makes the guitar CRY-! I saw Stevie twice and SO glad I did. Hes a guitar beast, this is one of THE best blues guitar performances ever recorded. RIP SRV.
About him playing 9 minutes, he played with .13 strings, which are very thick, compared to regular guitar strings. He broke them often because his hands were so strong. But he used to slice open the tips of his fingers from playing so hard that he would Super glue the skin closed after the show was over.
He actually super glued callouses that sliced off. Not the slits closed.
I just read an article about that.
He wasn't/ isn't the only one . He is however the most amazing!

Back in the 80s I was playing a gig in Dallas. I was trying to sound like Stevie so I had heavy strings on my strat. Bending was tuff and the skin between my fingernail and end of my finger split. I had read that SRV used super glue and ran across the street to 7-11 and got me some. Lemme tell you what... super glue in an open wound will make ya dance around in a circle and scream like a little girl and cuss like a sailor.
@@mikelundquist4596 I had a similar reaction with Nu-Skin. I studied martial arts for years and did pushups on my knuckles and did katas one day until my hands and feet bled. I tried it and it was not fun. I guess I'm just too sensitive to pain, lol!

I made the mistake of buying the tab book of stevie's greatest hits, when I wanted to learn guitar. My opinion he's the most talented player of all time.
My face hurts from smiling! Hhaha
this always happens when I watch people react to SRV for the first time.
Try "Voodoo Child" from his 1989 Austin City Limits appearance.
It's wonderful to watch people who genuinely love music respond to genius.
The whole time Stevie had the guitar out in front of him, his eyes were closed, so playing behind his back (even though it's awkward) is still minus visual reference.
There are a lot of SRV videos out there him playing the same songs (like Voodoo Child), but he never plays his songs the same way twice. So it's not just memorization, it's improvisation.

It was physically impossible for SRV to live longer. The music that would have come would have been on a level too advanced. This song never gets old...
The song structure was always the same but he never played the songs the same way. Sometimes faster sometimes slower. It was whatever he felt at the moment. That's what made Double Trouble, the whole band, so impressive. They were constantly watching Stevie and listening to change along with him. Adam Clayton, the drummer, and Tommy Shannon, and later on the keyboard player Reese Wynans where underrated yet some of the best musicians in the business. Within the blues community, they are legends as well.

RIP Stevie. His action and thick strings on this guitar was so high, other pro musicians couldn't play it. He was even known to have to superglue his finger tips back on. He was also Albert Kings godson.
I love this, father and daughter bonding over music! My daughter and I did the same....cleaning the house on Saturdays, singing along to Patsy Cline, Glenn Miller, Mozart’ Requiem. Our Mother Daughter dance was Coolio’s Gangster’s Paradise. Now she does the same thing with her daughters. God bless you and enjoy every minute together.

He don’t memorize the notes because he free styles every time he never plays a song the same twice he always changes things a little .
That's what Clapton found intimidating.

@@billallen4793 There's a lot of rockers that can't read music. It's not about the ability to read music. It's about playing the way it's been rehearsed (memorization) vs. playing off the top of your head during a live performance. Either party might or might not be able to read music, but that is a different discussion.

I love that version of that song but if you notice when he goes to talking and holds his finger up for just a second the tip of his finger is black you have watch closely to see it.
I saw an interview with SRV in the late 80's he was saying he played EVERY day for between 12 and 15 hours ..he was a very humble man and he was soft spoken...I guess when you are that good you just let the guitar talk for you

The drummer who’s name escapes me Chris something once said while chilling on the tour bus talking about a song when SRV picked up his guitar and started playing it but played it like he was preforming in front of 80,000 people. He though man this guy only knows one way to play

Other than keeping the basic structure of the song, every riff and run is in the moment. No memorizing involved. You can watch this same song at another event and the riffs and runs are different. Enjoyed your reaction! Do more SRV🎶‼️

Stevie Ray also played the guitar with his teeth! Jimi Hendrix played the guitar around his neck and with his teeth too!
SRV was amazing not only because of his lightning fast fingers but because he could fill every one of those notes with such raw emotion. It didn’t feel like “look how fast I can play” but “playing this fast conveys the emotions I want to convey”.

I agree that there are many many great guitar players out there.while SRV was fantstic, so is albert lee,vince gill,jerry reed, and many others, srv was:is but 1 ofmy favs,he played with BB KING,when it comes to the blues, srv ,to me, was right up there with the top 2-3?. Its all up to each of us,and that changes with me depending on what im hearing at that moment. To pick -the best-would say i know all there is to know about music.far from it. Lets just agree that we are blessed to have such talent to enjoy. For me,i just love somebody that is great at what they do, luca sestack plays the blues piano like nobody else, im just gonna keep watching you guys react to diff artist and see how you feel, thats kinda the point ,right? 2/16/21-not only did SRV play. For soo long,he also normaly used 13 gauge strings-basicaly cables! I dont play,but i know thats crazy heavy strings! No idea how he did it? And still have fingertips lft afterword! I really like ur chann,but can only find 1 post? Maybe im missing something but..?if so,can ya tell me where to find more of your posts? I cant count the times ive seen this video of. Srv and him doing -texas flood. He has one where he s just doing a sound check,plays btr there then any other 10 players!👍👍🤪🤪 it just never gets old, playing behind his back never really looking at his guitar while doing it, AMAZING! It would really hurt to play his guitar as the first 3/4 of his career he used the heaviest gauge strings he could find.
He played 13 gauge strings and didnt read a lick of music. The strongest fingers in history and the performances were always different but always perfect.
The GOAT! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 fun fact...he used a 13 gauge string, and he often broke them. You have to check out Led Zeppelin 1973 Madison Square Garden the tune, Baby I am going to leave you. Will knock you out.

in your best penmanship.
Then spin around and put them both behind your back.
Write a really interesting ten page original story about growing up. In less than ten minutes. While whistling a tune.
Show us what you wrote, and it better look like perfect calligraphy.
