- Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection runs a special orphanage that looks after baby chimps and prepares them to be released back into the wild. The West African chimpanzee is critically endangered due to poaching and the loss of habitat.

These people need help caring for them. It's expensive to properly feed them w/healthy nourishing food and medical care. These people dedicate their entire lives in caring for these orphaned chimpanzees. Human's are cruel and kind and chimpanzees are 1st traumatized by humans and then some are lucky enough to be saved and cared for by humans. So many of them just don't make it. The ones who are found and given a chance are so traumatized many don't make it. I'm going to stop off in Congo to help with supplies. I will see about stopping off in Liberia to help also. Try living with sexually mature chimps, and see what they do to their own and to humans that they attack. The pregnant females cannot give birth with the troop for fear that these males will take their newborn and eat them. Now how traumatic is that for female chimps… these are wild animals and should be respected as wild animals. Trying to humanize them is pure arrogance and aggression.
They are so lucky to have a job like that .... sweet little babies

It's a disgrace. There should be really strong laws against this. You are so kind for looking after her. She's beautiful. Thankyou ❤
Annette Monkey there *_ARE_* really "strong" laws against these things but it is sometimes hard to enforce those laws and the CR is not like being in the US..many officials and law enforcement are corrupt and can easily be bought and the culture and attitudes towards animals in general is not a positive thing for chimps...especially since it is still widely acceptable to kill them to eat them (bush meat)!
Gina Powell I can imagine and that is so sad. There must be more we can do. In the near future i am looking at setting up campaigns against poaching etc I am hoping to try get support to try and educate the people. I know it will be a long, slow, hard process but it will be worth it. It is sad that the people are so poor. I wish i could do something now, it breaks my heart to see and hear of it.
