- After 25 years, chimpanzees Doll and Swing still recognize their old friend, Linda Koebner. From the award-winning film WISDOM OF THE WILD, this excerpt captures the emotional reunion between two former laboratory chimpanzees and the woman who helped them transition to a life without bars. It’s so amazing to see. The emotional connection humans are able to form with other intelligent species is quite beautiful.
The smiles, hugs, visiting, make me smile, it's infectious, tears from empathy, same goes for me.
Watching them extend the hand of friendship and hug her as Linda got out of the boat brought a tear to my eye, what a beautiful friendship, as I grow older I'm realising more and more the complex emotions that animals are capable of.
I feel exactly the same way, When I see these beautiful animals show such sweetness to humans after what they have gone through. I’m not easily moved, but this chokes me up.

We share 98.8% of our DNA with chimps, that’s why they’re so like us, or maybe the other way around, we’re like them? 😂

I've saw this video before, but just now I've noticed, at 5:00 or so, when Linda is talking to the chimp and asking if she remembers about when they came here and such, you can literally see the chimp understanding what she's saying and, indeed, trying to remember. Our apes brothers must be protected.
The chimp does not understand what she is saying. Nice story but it's not try
Every single lifeform should not just apes (except mosquitoes they can all die xD)
At the very least, it looks like the chimp is TRYING to understand. Like, you know gears are moving up there.
It's a chimp, it doesn't understand what she's saying at all they're not smart enough and literally biologically incapable, they do remember her though for sure.
His reaction as soon as she says "Africa", too human

Yeah that was amazing!!
I agree. Even my dog can understand idk how many words but I swear he knows what we are talking about. And if he had arms like humans he'd give me hugs too. My cat does lol. And knows when I'm not feeling well she gives me all kinds of affection. Same w my dog. And some think cats don't have personalities and it's just human projection that they do. Just imagine how much these smart animals have had to sacrifice so that we humans could be more healthy. We owe a lot to these animals.
Damaruth True words.
animal experiments are useless, those chimps were "sacrificed" for corporate profit not for scientific advancement

Damaruth vaccines are for idiots, if you knew the science (not the corporate broscience you fell for) behind them you'd realize they dont work. i live 200m from a large primate research center and have read on the experiments they do there, useless generic "research" without any application. the only reason that place is still in operation is because the managment has connections to politics

But on the other hand think of the many lives saved and bettered because of research done on primates. I know, I know there is a lot of unethical stuff going on and ideally we would find some other way. Other ways are in the tube, too. At some point we will have computers powerful enough to simulate the very complicated bio-chemical interactions, which chimps and other primates have been used as analogue for.
That's the part I can't stand.
No wonder they have a propensity for violence that isn't related to predation or self defense, they share 99% of their DNA with humans hahaha
@@Pow3llMorgan It is just not an option, it isn't! You don't just try out stuff on handicapped people or children either, they did that in second world war and now we realised that it was not good. So I'm sorry, but we must see that this option can not exist! It is a very primitive argument, which just tells that humans believe that they are better than other species and therefore they have the right to fuck up the others, because they have no power to fight against us.

@@pascalpaps3139 unfortunately for you it's not all black and white.
Animals aren't capable of our level of intelligent thought. It's been proven numerous times. We are capable of things that no animal has ever been. Hyenas are gifted scavengers-yes. But when was the last time you saw a Hyena fire a gun? When was the last time you saw a wolf build a city? When was the last time you saw a tiger use electricity?
Humans are complex creatures. You're trying to boil us down to treacherous, evil beings.
Perhaps the humans you've interacted with made you think this, but humans aren't evil- humans are flawed.
Humans are capable of genuine love and compassion. If we weren't we wouldn't mourn the deaths of people close to us. We wouldn't marry or care about our mothers and fathers.
Animals don't have the same level of thought. Can an Animal love and be loyal to you? Perhaps. Maybe he remembers when you fed him or protected him. Maybe he sees you as a member of his pack or family unit. Humans and Animas have existed for many, many centuries. And in the earliest days of humanity humans hunted animals and hunted alongside animals.
If you've never seen the full extent of human compassion then I pity you. But stop trying to act like every human is evil.
@@secondpath5148 Anything you said from "Animals aren't capable" to "Tiger use electricity" is the exact same thing I said when I said "Humans are nothing more then INTELLIGENT omnivores that can MANIPULATE OBJECTS". So basically you agreed with me there. If not then I agree with you on that part.
I'm not trying to boil us (entirely) down to evil beings. I said if we were FULL carnivores THEN we would be COMPLETE evil beings indeed.
Humans are capable of love and compassion, so are other primates.
"Humans and animals existed..." Humans ARE animals period! It's not because we can rationalize and ponder about the meaning of life that we are different from them.
The truth is that we are all animals rather you like it or not. Put somebody in a life or death situation and you will see how quickly the animal inside comes out. When a father has 5 children and he passed away, observe how his children will behave when its time to cash in the inheritance. I think I've figured out why we as humans get quite emotional when watching this kind of "reunion" videos. Be it with troops coming home, or like this one with animals. It's because we eternally long for universal unity; to belong, to be at true peace. And when we bare witness to moments like this, it re-instills within our souls that longing for unity... a hug which ends division. And love, the one thing that can truly heal and set you free from the oppression and the greed of those who just want to watch the world burn.
It may sound deep, but I truly believe it is the truth. Love is key to it all.

good thing you weren't 39!!!
people try to keep them as pets, but from what i've read, they can tear apart a human , there strengh..................i don't belive everythin i read , i could see that
Too beautiful. Animals can be so pure and loving. Lessons to be learned by man.
Charles Ware they also murder, slaughter and eat their young. so no....
Lessons to be learned by animals. Not humans.
@@mandykillriff6854 and so do humans
@@mandykillriff6854 Genocide is human concept.
Yeah, let's not romanticize anything here. Humans can be just as forgiving and loving, and chimps can also be violent and cruel. They've been observed murdering each other, slaughtering entire rival troops, singling out and violently bullying weak members of their troops, etc...
Take the good with the bad and realize that they are just complex animals, like we are. They share 99% of our DNA, after all.
What a beautiful sight, you give love, you get love...blessings to all
This makes me so happy I cried. I love all great apes. They are so beautiful and sweet and intelligent
Damn I'm normally pretty tough when it comes to emotions but not gonna lie I got tears as soon as that chimp reached out for her on the boat. 25 years!! It's insane that they've remembered her, must show how great of an impact she had for the lives of these animals. May she receive all the luck and blessings in the world ❤
I think you forget how closely chimps are related to us.
It’s easy to dodge and escape emotions, what’s tough is to actually feel emotions and let them happen without fear.
YazziJazzi oh shit, I just saw you said the same thing right after I commented... nice hahaha. Ya know this got me thinkin now... maybe men are rulers of the world and woman were and kinda still are suppressed, because men are not the tough ones in reality. The shit woman have had to endure as far as being in power... shows immense strength on our part. A strength worthy of acknowledgement when compared to men enduring the same suppression and abuse in war, for an example... To endure such a war and suppression and imbalance.....
it shows the easy and fear ridden path many men took to gain “power” all to that gender exclusively.... woman will rise and be in power eventually, I’m sure of it. And I got a feeling they’re gonna do damn good.. There are crap people in both genders of course... but woman are somethin else ya know? And of course we need men to balance that... but anyways, yepp aha. I’m rambling. Cool shit.. ha
Same here brother and Amen to that, such a wonderful impact on the lives of those chimps, yet such anger that it was humans that inflicted the hurt pain and torture to begin with. Much love and peace my friend.
Zeq, find Christian the lion. I watched it once and can never watch it again. So heart warming it just broke me all the way down.
normally I don't cry but this breaking down my reserve. this right here....
HahHa so sweet when she looked at her and smiled that part made me cry .. 😢😢
This is so poignant and thought provoking. They remember and recognise this great lady, even after all the years. Makes me wonder who's the more civilised. Truly inspiring ☺
I had to stop watching it while at work...My eyes kept watering up...Just couldn't take it...I managed to finish it later..
I don't think we even need to say do we?
amazing stuff that re union wasnt it. i can only imagine what the chimps are feeling to. the woman should be very very proud of the work she done there.
I continue crying that's emotional me deeply god bless you and these beautiful chimps
What can I say this old man is sure your another angel on earth be happy good luck on future endeavors
4:51 "I guess if you remember me, you remember a lot of things back in africa.. in the lab." 😥

Me too..
Me too..
Me too..
Hahaha it was showing dominance not hugging!
Doge wow I'm sorry you have your spirit so blind to the good in humans and non-humans. Indeed, tragic.
I'm sobbing tears of heartbreak for what these animals and every other animal that is SENSELESSLY used in laboratories around the world, and tears of happiness that they are free! God bless this woman for her work. ❤
Never ceases to amaze me, or bring a tear to my eye for that matter.
An absolutely incredible moment.
