@badmonkey2222 that's why I said if. There is no absolutes when it comes to nature. The savage lives even in animals as domesticated as we are, so why would it be impossible for it to be in their nature as well?
@@badmonkey2222, so much resources are literally wasted on a creature whose existence has no proven important benefit to earth's ecosystem. Most things they do are negative such as destroying farmland, and spreading multiple serious diseases. I know so many will disagree with my following statement. The Federal Government of the U.S. spent close to 10 million dollars on the care of these creatures known to rip apart humans and eat them, they have eaten fellow chimps, carry many infectious diseases, and rank basically the lowest when considering how a particular creature's existence benefits the planet's ecosystem. Why should 10 million of tax dollars collected from working folks like myself go to take care of such a savage creature whose only positive contribution to the planet is now illegal, yes laboratory use. That 10 million could probably feed and house 100 thousand homeless adults and children that could one day benefit the world as opposed to caring for a few hundred cannibalistic creatures that has never and will never contribute anything positive to the world except occasionally spreading plant seeds as they poop uncontrollably all over the place. I find this a total waste of resources, and those that argue that we should care for them as they share DNA with humans is not a valid reason. Evolution is a THEORY. If we in fact did evolve from such a savage, unintelligent creature, then where are the caveman and Neanderthals. They should still be in existence as well if these creatures still exist.
It’s so so sad that we humans are supposed to be the superior species and yet we treat animals in general with such cruelty but to treat our closest relatives so badly makes me so sad thank goodness for these amazing people that can rescue and rehabilitate and make there lives as best they could have without being in the wild I hope all the lab chimps are saved and live the rest of there lives as free as we can possibly make for them it’s so beautiful to see thank you to all these people involved in these projects ❤️
If you knew what your own government treat humans from different countries & cultures like. You'd realise how little regard they have for everyone & everything that isn't themselves. We live in a vile world, where the worst amongst us benefit the most.
What I found almost the most heartbreaking about the cruelty that these animals have been exposed to, are things like the section at 8:14, if you think about it, the way these chimpanzees are being treated is not so different from how we as humans fear other creatures, aliens, more intelligent than us. In all the movies and theories that we imagine where a more powerful and intelligent species enslaves us and experiments on us, it is exactly what these chimpanzees have been going through, and it's tragic. I have such incredible respect for Jane Goodall, as well as all of the other researchers and people who believed in her vision and have helped apes over the years with things just like Chimp Haven. We have so much to learn from our fellow great apes, about them, about ourselves, and it doesn't have to be through torturous treatment and captivity.

I found the website and it says last update was in 2013..?....keep it up guys! we are cheering for retirement of as many chimps as much as you do! Very, very heartwarming story....so, so happy for them to have this amazing, beautiful place and all these carrying people...
This channel is very needed!! The animals can't talk for themselves. We have to be their helpers! Thank you for opening my eyes to see the last 1,000 chips being retired. I find myself very sad and angry to know we are still doing these horrific things to them. On the other hand, knowing that they are being retired I'm pleased about. I wish they all could be let go NOW!!!! Thank you so very much!!
Those animals and all animals can speak for themselves, and they can do so without any room for error. Unfortunately, what is lacking, is people lacking any regard for nature, people's lack of humility, their lack of desire to listen to anyone or thing that isn't directly benefiting them, and laziness that causes people to pretend like they cannot understand anything that is not perfectly presented to them, in their preferred terms, and only what theywant to hear.
If I may ask, why did you mentioned that you're a disabled senior citizen from NM before saying that you were glad that they are doing this and helping the animals? I'm just curious what was the importance of adding that part of information to your comment. Would it matter if you were a young person with no disability? Would your opinion matter any less? I can't seem to figure it out why you are that in. Can you help me clear that up please? With all due respect I'm truly curious.

They are beings like us. We have our advantages over them but in many ways they are more intelligent than us. Their short term memories for example. They’re just the most amazing animals and I’m just so happy that they now have the ability to live with each other and get through the trauma they went through together in a place that is most like their home. I’d do anything to be able to talk to them and let them know how loved and respected they are. Edit: and may god bless all the people who finally made this happen for them. Starting with Jane Goodall.
Thank you for making this video and showing us that we as human beings are finally helping chimps to have a better quality of life where as before they were treated for our benefit, whether it be for our entertainment, to help create medical treatments for us, for our beauty products, etc. Many so-called chimpanzee habitats still are created and funded for the entertainment of people. This place is created solely for the benefit of chimpanzees and to educate people that chimps are very similar to people and our cultures, but also have unique differences. I was surprisingly moved by this video. It gives me hope that all sentient beings deserve the right to live their lives in both peace apart from us and, given the opportunity, to choose to live in harmony with human beings.
@mi channnal Are you expecting a delegate from the chimp kingdom extend an official olive branch to humanity or something? Because individual chimps do in fact show individual gratitude to individual people. Just like basically every other animal with any sort of social awareness. Gratitude, or at least reciprocity, is a basic function of social cognition. You can talk about who's the bigger asshole until you are blue in the face, but as close as we are genetically, we aren't close enough socially to make any sort of comparison like this. This whole sort of conversation is stupid. Which is why it gets had so often. It's a bunch of people failing to even meet the minimum criteria for an argument and just flinging poo at each other like a bunch of frustrated apes.
@mi channnal "This sort of conversation", namely, the one that was being had before I even showed up. Ie "No, animals are pure beings that do nothing wrong" vs "Hey bro, i just smoked a bowl and watched joe rogan talk about chimp wars. Lets nuke west africa!". And no, i doubt I've spent the most time here either way. This is a 4 month old conversation that I commented on yesterday, and I have ascended to the level of intelligence where two paragraphs doesn't take me more than a couple of minutes to express.
As soon as I watched the first ones looking at the sky I started crying.. They are our next of kin..Thank you so much to all the people who made and are making this possible. I really wish ALL the chimps retire once and for all. They have already suffered so much ...

Passenger pigeons we killed off.. bison destroyed millions just , because it was the indians main food source.. cougers in america borderline extinct. I could go on for a long time, but like I said we have changed. The industrial age killed more species of animals than all wars/deaths in recorded history many many times over. In the last 60 years animal populations declined 60%. Industrial revolution started 1760 so if you added it all it would be mind boggling. We are about to kill 200 wolves because there destroying the caribou pop if bison, and those other animals were still here it wouldn't be a problem ecosystem isnt balanced. It's not just here but around the world were humans have populated/ destroyed habitats. Sadly the rainforest is the next victim to habitat loss. Well said. I can’t agree more. We have much to learn, especially in the EMPATHY side of life. We are not superior, nor are we more deserving of the right to do whatever we want to this earth and it’s beautiful creatures.
Chimps can't talk and tell about how sad their lives have been. They ca't tell like we do about pain and suffering and go after their abusers and publically accuse them as we do. If they could, this would be another planet

Amazing work, thank you to everyone who are making this a reality, im honestly shocked and ashamed to be a human being after learning this wasn't already being done for aged research chimps. red x17 I agree, you should be thankful of even being human. It is the survival of the fittest in the wild you would probably die in within hours without your comfortable lifestyle.
That's what I was thinking my dogs both literally smile when they're happy and now that I think about it so does my cat. . People just want to feel superior and if we are then we should care about taking care of those that are inferior. That's the superior being's duty. It's up too the strong to up hold the weak.

@@reneemills-mistretta790 that is an assumption, not a fact. what we're saying is that we don't trust they can survive so we're going to assume they'd rather die in a cage and live longer than die in the wild free to roam as they please, with the chance of not living as long. Those are powerful assumptions. Also, one scenario requires humans and the other does not. I am skeptical of anything having to do with the animals of the jungle where humans have taken on full responsibility for their survival. What animals need and probably want is for us to leave them be. Taking them from one cage and putting them in another is no hero's act in my opinion. I think we would be surprised at the similarities to the accommodations from which they came. Yes they are no longer being used for testing, that is true, but as far as living conditions is this really so much better for them? Call it a bedroom if you want so you feel better, but a cage is a cage.

It’s so so sad that we humans are supposed to be the superior species and yet we treat animals in general with such cruelty but to treat our closest relatives so badly makes me so sad thank goodness for these amazing people that can rescue and rehabilitate and make there lives as best they could have without being in the wild I hope all the lab chimps are saved and live the rest of there lives as free as we can possibly make for them it’s so beautiful to see thank you to all these people involved in these projects ❤️
humans are evil trash
If you knew what your own government treat humans from different countries & cultures like. You'd realise how little regard they have for everyone & everything that isn't themselves. We live in a vile world, where the worst amongst us benefit the most.
To be fair, there is an extreme amount of cruelty in the animal kingdom in general, humans is just another part of the cruelty of nature
Great point, but look how we treat each other as a species. 😢
To see them looking at the sky for the first time absolutely broke my 💔 thank you all for giving these beautiful chimps a new life 🤞

I love Jane’s work and have followed her for years. She has opened our eyes to how much the chimps are like us.
She s a nutcase. That is if you mean Jane Goodall.
I am so glad someone took the time to care! Bless you!
Jane Goodall is an incredible person, she’s an unknown hero to these chimps
@mi channnal Yea, and human beings will kill and rape, too. Chimps are no more cruel than us.
@mi channnal sounds like Bantu culture
@mi channnal Are you expecting a delegate from the chimp kingdom extend an official olive branch to humanity or something? Because individual chimps do in fact show individual gratitude to individual people. Just like basically every other animal with any sort of social awareness. Gratitude, or at least reciprocity, is a basic function of social cognition. You can talk about who's the bigger asshole until you are blue in the face, but as close as we are genetically, we aren't close enough socially to make any sort of comparison like this.

@mi channnal "This sort of conversation", namely, the one that was being had before I even showed up. Ie "No, animals are pure beings that do nothing wrong" vs "Hey bro, i just smoked a bowl and watched joe rogan talk about chimp wars. Lets nuke west africa!".

Passenger pigeons we killed off.. bison destroyed millions just , because it was the indians main food source.. cougers in america borderline extinct. So true. ...they woukd put dogs n cats down
C. Michael I agree with most of what you said. Also, the chimp dna study was flawed and excluded many sequences. The real number is around 94-95%. But that doesn’t mean anything. Trees are 50%, all life is related.
They didnt put their lives on the line for us!!we forced them too!!
exactly...like she made it seem like they stood in line and signed up for that %h*t
She said UNWILLINGLY, at the end of that sentence, so she didn't make it seem like that at all! Don't shit on the only people helping these animals!
and now we put them in "condo cages." a cage is a cage. would you rather die free or in a cage?
F bunch of hypocrites, they deserve to live in their natural habitat not there , they still in their property, and not able to live like they supposed to
Animals are the slaves of modern times. but some animals only exist because we keep them as livestock. i am not saying we should stop eating meat, just we should maybe eat less meat and more diverse vegetables `? anyways chimps have gotten a bad deal, its time they get to live again.
Jane is a saint. I am eternally grateful to her.
37:30 ...Have they seen Planet of the Apes?... It would be the most relevant and, I wonder what their reaction would be. Or, ya think it would be unethical to show them that movie? I'm just as curious on what the staff's opinion is on that.
hmmm, they are pretty smart.
seeing a movie where bunch of apes are attacking humans could give them ideas.
I moved to Louisiana about 9 years ago to be closer to and help out with my grandchildren. I love them, but I have hated this state and find the culture confusing. This sanctuary, seeing what they are doing here in Louisiana is a light in the state that shines. Thank you.
Loved it .thank you all!
After the horror stories I've heard, I can't see why anyone would keep one as a pet.
They will eat your face off.
The lady who got her face ate was because the owner gave the chimpanzee medicine to calm him and he had a violent reaction , these are wild and misunderstood and not human , even some humans will react the same with some medication it just so happens the chimp used his teeth and strength not a Gun
True, I would never want these things as a pet. 1 mistake of not reading their body language correctly & that's your ass. I'd rather deal with a lion if I absolutely had to pick. These things literally go out of the way to dismember you. They go 4 your eyes, hands, face, genitals, etc. Sheeeeesh
They are Not suppose to be a pet!!!!
Im so sick of hearing bout one woman getting her face ate shit happens
@@christinamoore9618 Lmao so just because you hear it a lot doesnt mean theyre safe as pets or at all
This is absolutely amazing.
We are them they are us.
My heart breaks for our closest living cousin.
4:43 I found this part kinda funny cause if you rewind to 4:33 you can see why... I imagine the chimps could hear all that yelling from a group about similar in number to them, the chimps probably thought it's time for war against another group with all that yelling and coming into a new territory and all
The chimp napping was me when i was in middle school, teacher would put on a movie 🎬 and I fall asleep😴.
Shame on us, we have no right to use them like that. They are individuals and deserve respect.
The vet is an amazing person! She cares about the chimps so much. Everyone there cares and it’s so nice to see people caring about our evolutionary ancestors.
Dee B I guess it’s a good thing that facts don’t care if you believe them or not.
yeah those new cages sure do shine don't they?
These are adorable and such interesting creatures Dr Goodall is right there is no sharp line between us.
Oh there is. We don't kill each other for fun. Yeah there are sociopaths but their culture is killing!
@@broctheil4744 They fight each other and rip off genitals and fingers for fun. They are sociopaths almost. They can mourn but it's morbid. We have empathy for others. We have regulations and rules. They do not.
@@broctheil4744 rwanda genocide? You mean genocides committed by a single leader and people forced to do it or they die? That's the fault of one person, not a race. Have you seen chimps? They kill each other for fucking fun, they kill humans for fun too if they want. We have empathy. We spare others. They give no mercy. Look at the chimp psychology. Bonobos are much more peaceful.
Amazing to see their natural wild instinct kicking in 🤗👏
Now that 2020 is here I hope they do a update video
Fantastic Video. I hope to come visit one day soon. Thanks for everything you do to give them a semi normal life. Well, a full life better than what they had prior.
You racist piece of shit
Yeah, i hope they keep them in those cages long enough for us to come see and stare at.
Is there a reason that the chimp haven walls have to be dull grey?! Put some green on there and trees painted on, with clouds and lakes. I would even settle for brown and green, but that dull grey must be hard to look at. Oh and some bamboo painted on, with birds.
Please don’t skip ads. That’s the way we can help them.
help who?
Not sure of her age, but she radiates with natural beauty.
Omg I'm crying for what we do to animals- what we ALLOW.
You can blame the AIDS patients from the 80s. I was living in NJ and I remember the militant parades and even riots that went on in Manhattan demanding that scientists come up with an antidote because AIDS patients were dying. I remember reading that the scientists 🧑🏽🔬 had to use the chimps a lot after that to find a remedy.
@@barbaradavis8372 I thought this was a legitimate sanctuary where the chimps could retire in peace but they're still owned by the NIH & can be re called for research at any time, especially the guys in the longer term studies for Hepatitis & HIV.
Thank you Jane Goodall from the bottom of my heart ❤ wales uk xxx
I am so glad for these people freeing these poor creatures. And all love and respect to Jane Goodall. But humans need to remember that it is also abusive to try to keep them as "pets". It is contributing to their extinction in the wild. If there was no market for them as pets, or for body parts, maybe poaching in the wild would STOP. Habitat loss is as big a problem. And chimps in particular, males specifically, are prone to aggression and violence when they reach sexual maturity, with no hope of ever having a mate/family of their own. It is bad all the way around and needs to be outlawed everywhere.
It was asked in another video who was your hero. Jane Goodall was mine! A wonderful woman!
I absolutely loved this !!!
