I know this is years old at this point but in case you still check this account, they did eventually get to release Chiquita into the wild successfully.
I hope Chiquita succeeds in her efforts to get back to the forest. There should be a world wide effort to protect their habitats . Stop buying products with palm oil in them, people?
Palm oil estates are not only found in orang utan's habitat. There are thousands of hectares in peninsular malaysia too where no orang utan lives there. The people working in the estates deserve their earnings from the hard work. Why put sand in their pots just because of a few greedy tycoons?
Thats not actually ideal though. Orangutaans are solitary. In the wild they prefer to be alone, only really socializing for mating and raising babies. So growing up means learning how to be without mama. But all babies in any species, even humans, have this, so this process of weaning is perfectly natural.
I thought they rotated the caregivers frequently, so the Orangutans WOULDN'T get too attached to one carer in particular? That was definitely a full-blown temper tantrum though. She was NOT happy that Mommy left her to go back to the other babies.

@@michaelaclarke3228 I don't think you understand, these are not pets. These are wild animals. The fact they were stolen and made to be pets is horrific and what put trauma in to them in the first place. Some lost their mothers to poaching and deforestation. However, these care takers have to encourage them to become orangutans. Which means they have to be independent or else they won't survive. They won't always have a care taker around, especially not IN THE WILD. Are you dedicating your entire life to taking care of orangutans? If not, maybe you should find something else to do. Palm oil estates are not only found in orang utan's habitat. There are thousands of hectares in peninsular malaysia too where no orang utan lives there. The people working in the estates deserve their earnings from the hard work. Why put sand in their pots just because of a few greedy tycoons?
Also write to companies why you arent buying their products so they can make a change instead of going out of business

@@marleygordon621 pay no attention to the troll and he might just curl up and die someplace else
They seem very civilized and cooperative. They behave better, in a group than a bunch of kids, that age.
Thats not actually ideal though. Orangutaans are solitary. In the wild they prefer to be alone, only really socializing for mating and raising babies. So growing up means learning how to be without mama. But all babies in any species, even humans, have this, so this process of weaning is perfectly natural.

As naughty as she is, this is honestly so sweet, and it’s hilarious
I thought they rotated the caregivers frequently, so the Orangutans WOULDN'T get too attached to one carer in particular? That was definitely a full-blown temper tantrum though. She was NOT happy that Mommy left her to go back to the other babies.
They said that Chiquita got attached because she was nursed back to health by that one caretaker, and then just stayed attached like that.

They should switch the rules and be able to steal the children of poachers. Then maybe they might stop poachers to give them some empathy. I'm just saying I would want to, but wouldn't.
