is very syncristic you are demoing a Washboard and a Ringer.I recntly put the Ringer on my wish list. The laundry facilities (Washer) is constantly out of order here in my Apt.I figure id wash my clothes by hand ring them out and stick them in the dryer. BTW i plan on using a 5 gal bucket and a toilet plunger to wash my clothes Yes one that i havent used on my clogged toilet so get that out of your mind
As for personal hygiene, I have layers of preps but one thing I wanted to share are bathing cloths for the elderly or rehab patients to get baths in bed. You just need a tiny bit of water and after you lather up you can just wipe off. I like them better than baby wipes even though baby wipes don't require water UNTILL they dry out (and they do). It's good when water is scarce, and they have shampoo ones too. Men talk about snacks as comfort items but for most women, we want to be clean.
Evening JR. Years ago, after my grand aunt and grand uncle died, I received their "washing machine". It is an old early 1920's Maytag that they still used. Though the washer and ringer were electric, single motor, it could be switched and also be agitated and use the ringer by hand. This is my primary "off grid" clothes washing method, though I do have a washboard too.
I purchased the Wonder wash 5 years ago, it was $95 with shipping to Canada at that time. I take it camping every year, it's one of my favorite preps. i found after you add the clothes rotate it five, six times, spin it upside down, push in the drain button to release the pressure then continue washing. It does a much better job once you release the pressure. Absolutely love the wonder wash!
In Oklahoma we called the plunger an Oklahoma Maytag. One I had for many years was actually made by Maytag and made of stainless steel. Fantastic tool. Back to basics folks!
I was blessed by my Grandma, and she gave me her washboard. This demonstration was PERFECT!!!! Thank you JR for all the info you give all of us!!! God Bless!!🙏❤️🙏 MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!!🎄❤️🎄❤️🎄❤️
Thanks JR. I went the buckets and "new" plunger route and made sure I have plenty of detergent stocked up. One of my preps is extra ropes for my clothes lines.
Has anybody tried to wash their clothes while showering? We do this when using the campground’s facilities. Step in the stall fully clothed, soap up the clothes, rinse while still wearing them. Then take the wet stuff off..hang them on a hook...then wash yourself. Change into your dry clothes; hang the washed clothes to dry somewhere when you leave the showers.
Love my WonderWash. It does a great job with very little detergent and water. For backup have a washboard and wasboard/basin combo, both cheap on Amazon. For everyday use, a clothes spinner has paid for itself, saves so much time in the dryer.
For the washboard think about the parts of the garment that you dirty the most, (crotch of the pants, armpits and neck of the shirt) and scrub them the most.
I never knew there was so much innuendo in doing laundry. 😅 Seriously tho, great video. I've been following many prepper channels for years and yours is the first I've seen doing a dedicated video on laundry during SHTF and the different methods available.
When you popped a squat JR, I started to chuckle! No one is ever gonna do this, in our world of modern conveniences. People are so damn lazy that they would get sores from soiled clothes before they ACTUALLY did laundry. I did exactly this with my grandma in upstate NY when I was a kid in the late 70s…wringer and all. What an experience- and what a job. I’m thankful for my Speed Queens. Happy Christmas, brother!
I've lived in the Chihuahuan Desert for most of my life. I have absolutely NO IDEA what 'smelling like a moose' actually is. Is it anything like smelling like a javalina? Good vid and I agree with hygiene! ...and if your wife is anything like mine, she will quite quickly say, "Well, Bucky, YOU'RE the expert on laundry now, so..."
Back in the day we washed all our cloths by hand using a washboard and large galvanized tin tube which also double as our bath tub. Basic modern conveniences like electric stoves, dryers hot water heaters, electrical well pumps, air conditioning, refrigerators, TV, or a phone etc. were not very common in my early childhood. If you didn't grow, raise, hunt or fish, make or trade for what you needed, you did without. Preparing for the next day, week, month, or season was basically a way of life.
Thanks for a good video. I already have these things. The washboard and… I have a clothes wringer. The clothes wringer is more important as it is harder to wring out clothes. It gets your hands raw between the thumbs and forefinger
My first 10 years we used a wringer washer on the front porch. My 5 yr old sister put her arm through the ringer. X-rays showed no damage but lots of screaming
I got a manual washing contraption, from the man of the house. It is a birthday present. Don’t worry I wanted it because I’m the prepper in this establishment.😊 I’ll have to have a test run with it one day. Thing is, one collects all this prepper stores and paraphernalia to the point that I start wishing that an incident occurs for a while to truely test run “EVERYTHING.” Mind you I do remind myself “be careful what I wish for .”😂 Cheers from Oz.❤
Great video JR. This is the first time I’ve seen anyone demonstrate doing laundry. It is very helpful. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family. 🎄🎆
Thanks for the video man. This truly is something I hadn't considered. Adding it to my to do list! You and your family have a Merry Christmas and thanks again!!
Hey JR, great vid! You’re right, few if any other preppers discuss this. I’ve always just used a sink or tub for manual wash, but I’m really liking that 3 5-gallon bucket setup. 👍
We have a laundry bucket. I have laundry sheets (Ecosheets), Felsnaptha, line, pins plus washboard and a 2 sink portable wash tub. I still need a wringer!!
This video is incredible! You are without a doubt the best prepping UA-camr. The breadth of subjects and depth you go into is unmatched in our opinion. Thank you 🙏 I had given some thought to this but not as much as I probably should have. Thanks for giving me a new project!
Thank you for this excellent video. A lot of options for washing clothes! I have often thought about how I will wash clothes and only came up with the plunger and washboard.
That's what I needed JR,...a tactical option for laundry. Who hasn't found themselves on patrol and realized it was laundry day. 😂 ...... Great video buddy and I can still remember my grandmother's old, round, roller laundry machine. Priceless, and continues to work. Cheers from Alberta! Also, do you have a pet Lynx in the background....WTF?
No, not a lynx. lol. I had to record this one at my parent's house, and they have a ton of cats. They were getting a swing set installed in their backyard for my son and they both had to work. I was babysitting the work crew. Their house is also more well-suited for this type of video, so it worked out. Thanks for watching!
@@diypreppertv Ah I see... He looked like a big cat...haha. Thought maybe you collected exotic killer cats for SHTF. Not a bad idea actually....just sayin. Love the vids and thanks for sharing. Cheers!
And the three buckets can be used to brew alcohol everything needed the fermenter bucket the lauter tun Bucket and the dispensing bucket. And no that wasn't a joke. 🤠
how far we've come and how far we're going back they had the right idea though environmentally wise pre industrial world coming back to fighters that that ring you using in england that was called a mangle. a similar process to your washing machine, was used to churn milk into butter.
Amazon carries them, but they're kinda expensive. I found one at an online auction; it was missing the wingnuts. I ended up getting it for under $40. Wingnuts were another $2. Am very happy with it.
Sorry, your wife is probably like my wife, she is loves is mine is dearly departed but she loved watching me do this kind of stuff. All was trying to do is make life easier.

Good idea
I add a little bit of vinegar in the rinse water which helps cut and release any soap still on your clothes. It’s also a good disinfectant.😊
You can also bathe in a tub and then use That same water to wash your clothes in...and then use the same water to flush the toilet..
People used to run the rinse water out for their gardens.

If you add a bit of vinegar to the rinse water, it will help to remove the soap and also disinfect.

Adding a little baking soda into the first wash can help soften hard water.

Ah, the living hell of doing laundry off grid. Try the Lavario portable clothes washer. They have a channel on here.
Thanks for sharing Ryan!
From what I remember Fels Naphta doesn't make soapy bubbles. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
On the board no, but there are some bubbles on the clothes as you scrub them. It’s not super frothy though.
Ok, let's be honest: Most of us are already larping...
That’s my other channel. Lol

As a Canadian it is important to me not to smell like a moose.
🧥🛏️It strikes me that the bucket system would be the easiest for blankets and heavy jackets ie the most widest application with least manual effect.
That is probably true. I’d hate to dig a wet blanket out of the manual washing machine.
Good job.
