McNeil’s bat came around in the second half. He’s versatile. And he’s under contract. He’s not going anywhere in ‘25, no matter how much you guys hate him. I’ll wager McNeil is starting at 2b next April.

1. Stewart, out. No-brainer. 2. Megill. Would trade for AA/AAA talent only. His FIP was very promising especially if Mets starters cannot stay healthy. 3. Marte is a known Juan Soto recruiter. Let him play out the rest of his contract (1 year) as a DH. -Yes, veteran presence too. 4. McNeil (trade). Upsell his second half of the seasons and 2 season removed from the batting title. His defensive versatility is no longer important considering Mauricio, Acuña and Baty can be available to play 2B, 3B, OF. If he cannot hit for average he is worthless to us. Slap hitter. No power. Doesn’t get on base. Only positive is that he is on a favorable contract IF he can get it going a bit. ie .260/.340/.800
They better figure it out soon: I'm getting tired of watching other teams pass us by. I'm 47 years old and they haven't won since I was 9. Had to sit and watch the old New York team celebrating.
Martinez to go, if he is still on books... cull through the bullpen McNeil to stay as why trade for rubbish and he is contracted isn't he... what does anyone think about Diaz, is he gone?
The money the METS might use to sign SOTO, they should use to resign ALONSO, sign CORBIN BURNES, ANTHONY SANTANDER and a good reliever. Then trade for GARRET CROCHET and BRENT ROOKER who hit .291, 40 hrs, over 100 rbis who has a $700,000 contract. He plays the outfield andcan DH. In the free agent signings, COHEN will have to step in and do the signings because of STEARNS' MINI MARKET/ MONEY BALL PHILOSOPHY.
@@joselopezmoya9786 That would be a strong facelift for the team. But trading for Crochet and Rooker would put a significant dent in the farm system. Crochet alone would cost an arm and a leg. So that has to factor in too.
@ I have given it real look. The Mets lost their ace for the season. The Mets lost their top set up man for the season. The Mets later lost their replacement set up man for the season. The Mets also lost a number of other relief pitchers that put them in a hole with the pen over-and-over through the season. Nimmo played injured all season. I fully understand that the Braves struggled with injuries in ‘24, but they were not alone in that respect. They just got the most attention.
Which non-free agents do you want the Mets to cut ties with? 🤔

McNeil has tremendous value due to his versatility. He also found his bat finally. Acuna if ready will take Iglesius’s spot on the roster.
The point being made is that McNeil HAD tremendous value due to his versatility. He’s just a 2B now. He’s not the same player he was back in 2019.
