My Top 5 HM’s Verdugo - No way he comes back, just not a Top 5 guy 3B Coach Luis Rojas - We lead BR mistakes… I need someone with BR experience 5 - Stroman (Not on one of postseason roster, we have other 5 SPs, movable) 4 - Rizzo (Time to move on, nice guy but declining massively) 3 - Torres (Less likely he comes back, good change of scenery candidate, inconsistent long term ) 2 - Holmes (Easy goner, have reluctantance to pay RPs, no way he’s one to pay) 1 - LeMahieu (Can’t have this guy on the roster next season, waste, no tools anymore, do whatever you can to move if not then DFA if we are likely going youth next season if Soto comes back )
2025 Starters: C - Wells 1B - Rice 2B - Peraza/Vivas/Cabrera/Berti SS - Volpe 3B - Chisholm LF - Judge CF - Dominguez RF - Soto DH - Stanton Would rather they re-sign Soto + sign a starter or a closer rather another bat.
Good analysis. The only one of that group that is must return, is of course Juan Soto. I can't see Oswaldo Cabrera in LF however, even though I like what he gives the Yanks in his current capacity.
I agree with your list 100%. With Soto, I'm projecting the payroll at 270M on the high end. There won't be room for much, so I think we will definitely see some Rookies making the leap. Projected Lineup 1. Durbin 2B 2. Soto RF 3. Judge LF 4. Wells C 5. Stanton DH 6. Dominguez CF 7. Rumfield 1B 8. Volpe SS 9. Chisolm 3B
From a fan perspective it seems crazy for Soto to leave, but from his point of view it’s a job. I can see him staying or leaving and not really be shocked. Gotta win a ring this year and then I would be happy that’s all that matters. All that matters is right now this season. If he leaves I find it difficult to get back to the level we’re at rn… if we win it all now I think we can all sleep at night with him gone. If they don’t it will be really rough to accept it… win NOW THIS IS THE TIME
With the Mets getting their arse kicked and the Mets having no offense, it seems we will need to get the World Series before Soto leaves us. He doesn't give me any confidence that he will stay for less money, even though the Yankees will give him a record contract too. Not sure why given he will get paid regardless and will break the record regardless.
Like pretty much every Yankee fan I'd really like to see Soto back. Rizzo is definitely gone at 17 million, but I wouldn't be terribly shocked if they rework his contract to keep him around at a lower number (I personally would let him walk). Holmes has shown that he's a capable set-up guy, but some team will probably offer him closer-type money, so he'll walk. I can't imagine a world where they bring back Verdugo, especially if they re-sign Soto. I like Tommy Kahnle, but I 100% agree that he's on the downside of his career and will be too expensive. Torres is a weird situation, 2 months ago I'd've said he's definitely gone. But now I think he could come back if the price is right. I can see The Yankees giving him a qualifying offer and if he takes it good, but if not at least they get something in return.
Good list. Although I hope DJ LeMahieu be part of the list too. Rizzo, Holmes, Verdugo, Torres are gone for sure. Kahnle may stay with the right prices. Yank will need more BP pieces and more depth in OF. IF they are set with Peraza, Chism, Berti, Oswaldo, Volpe and possibly Vivas to join.
Torres will probably be the best available second baseman via free agency. I think he stays and Soto goes to the team that drops the biggest load of cash at his feet. Verdugo will be gone and left field is there for Jason Dominguez to earn in spring training. Jazz either takes third base or moves back to the outfield and plays right. Which means the team will need to fill one of those spots through free agency. First base….when Soto leaves maybe open the vault for Pete Alonso to replace Rizzo I think Cashman will spend the off season building a very strong bullpen. I can absolutely see a very successful team next season
Now I’m thinking Gleyber is coming back. He struggled until the trade deadline because he was scared to be traded to another team, he wasn’t focused on the game.
DJ best days are really really behind him from a 300 hitter in both leagues to barely hitting his weight. I think the Yankees do not need to bring him back. He’s more of a hazard than a benefit. He drops balls at first base he’s slow he can’t hit most of the time so I would let DJ LeMahieu, go completely
When NIKE wanted their 'swoosh' to appear on Yankee uniforms they wound up paying Hal 'One Billion Dollars' and that is 'a thousand million'. If George had gotten that windfall he would have out spent the Dodgers to build the greatest team in the universe. He knew that whatever he spent, would come back 10 times over but Hal is not George and should sell the team to someone who is like his father.
Verdugo has been a big disappointment offensively. Torres, has done a nice job in the leadoff spot, but his defense has never been very good, and he is not a great hitter by any extent. Trevino should not be back, although good at framing the pitch, he became such a defensive liability, that the Yankees played rookie Wells, who was like O for his last 70 at bats in the regular season and has been a disaster offensively in the post-season. Kahnle, I never cared for, he leaves way too many crushable change-ups in the middle of the plate to be taken deep. Clay Holmes should not be brought back, he can not be trusted in any high level spot, he leaves way too many sinkers over the middle of the plate, and sinkers left high are meatballs to be crushed. He pitches to contract, and balls put in play have a way of beating you, a Baltimore chopper, a seeing-eye roundball, a swinging bunt, a bloop, an error, a sinker to the out-field, and blast. Having him close games was a huge mistake. Loaisiga has talent, but is always injured. Keep Weaver, although relievers seem to have good and bad years and next might be an off year for him. 1st base must be improved upon, Rizzo has served a purpose, but his days as a productive 1st baseman are behind him. Chisholm should be traded, because he is not the type of hitter the Yankees or anyone interested in post-season success should have on their roster. He is an undisciplined, free swinger, who good pitchers will dominate. It is no coincidence that he is not hitting this postseason. The Yankees must acquire a legitimate 3rd baseman, with pop. I would keep Soto. The Yankee Roster is not in good shape. If you go from position to position, there are many holes. Need a new catcher, need a new 1st baseman, a 3rd baseman, center fielder (Judge should be moved out of center to save his legs), either a left or center fielder, depending on Soto's status and where Judge plays. If Soto leaves, another impact bat and outfield is needed. Also desperately need a bonafide closer with swing & miss stuff, and at least one additional starting pitcher. The Yankees have been way too top heavy in talent with Soto and Judge, the only legitimate hitters in the lineup for much of the season. Stanton is an oft injured hot and cold streaky hitter, who is always a potential threat at the plate, but he also might swing and miss by 3 feet, and he has now become one of the slowest runners in MLB, so un-athletic.
Kahnle is our best bullpen arm got to be worth another year, Rizzos washed, Clays well Clay, Verdugo meh they can go for me Gleybers been brilliant in lead off perfect guy infront of Soto and Judge question is has he switched on because his contract is up and will revert to type afterwards or is this the real Gleyber? I think it depends what offers he gets elsewhere, id be happy to keep him i dont think hes going to get more aav than hes on now maybe we could actually retain him on less
I know Torres fans will hate me, but i dont see us paying Torres the $ that other teams are going to be willing to pay him. His 1st part of the season was terrible. He kinda woke up in the 2nd part. Yes hes been great since we moved him into the lead off spot. But i see a lazy player, who doesnt hustle. Makes too many errors on defense. Etc. We shall see. But im a fan of moving on from Torres. Sorry Torres fans.

Gleyber will be back
Some of these predictions didn't age well after tonight... except Cardiac Clay - never let him near the mound for the rest of the post season.
Torres will probably be the best available second baseman via free agency. I think he stays and Soto goes to the team that drops the biggest load of cash at his feet.

Now I’m thinking Gleyber is coming back. He struggled until the trade deadline because he was scared to be traded to another team, he wasn’t focused on the game.
Not sure why you did not include Dominguez as a LF option?
He's gonna be in CF - not planning on them playing Judge in CF again
All has been goegiven with Gleybor Torres sincw he has been moved back into the leadoff spot. He has been killing it, especially in the post aeason.
Tommy is definitely coming back
Bet
Yankees aren’t rolling w/2-3 rookies next year in the starting lineup. So forget Jasson, Rice, Durbin all making the team out of spring training.
No chance on Durbin.
Has he forgotten about the Martian for LF?
Man, I hope they re-sign Soto because he’s a hell of a hitter and he has a great eye!
Yeah Baby…Soto and Judge for multiple yrs!
Jason Dominguez will play left field
And what about Stanton?
Dominguez is starting left field
He’s gonna be in center I think.

Just pointing out Volpe his hitting .320 this postseason and was essential in last nights victory.

What is Gleyber is willing to accept a pay cut so that he can stay with the Yankees for less money? He said he wants to retire as a Yankee.
Why does he have to take a pay cut
He makes 18 mill this year . Give him 5/100
