Thank you Marty and Clay. I appreciate both of you so much...I've been an active paid member of Song Town twice... once in early 2016 for 1 year and again in July 2020 for 1 year. I have always felt complete trust in your organization and feel you have the best interest in the members who join your organization. I continue to follow you through Facebook and through the email messages I still receive. There is always something new to learn...❤
I've probably stumbled across 15,000 seeds. But unless one of them follows me around like a puppy, it gets put in the book and put on a shelf for later. But the one seed that makes and ruins my day, day after day, usually ends up something that may not be a hit, but something I enjoy hearing and am proud of. And if someone else connects with it, that's the payoff on this end.
If I wrote a song in 15 min, it would probably be "Mary had a little goat" and would need the rewrite to get Mary her Lamb (and not talk about whose the G.O.A.T.) . I love the part about stripping it away to a single focused idea and conveying that emotion. In a co-write, when writers have differing (conflicting?) views on what lyric/phrasing best conveys the emotion, how do you work through that? I've run into this a few times and on an occasion (or two) will yield even if I disagree, for the sake of the write and their energy about it, especially when there isn't a 3rd writer to tie break it.
Good question! Most pro co-writes I'm on, we start with a title and get on the same page for how we want to write it. Usually it's the most interesting and real approach that wins. Whatever is best for the song. ~CM
Desmond and I have a mutual good friend and said friend told me Desmond likes to sometimes 'let the land lay fallow' and not write at all for stretches of time. I call this "Sunday". lol
Another great video! It’s a travesty how small the audience for songwriting content appears to be. Meanwhile ‘music business for social media’ content is booming. Artists have their priorities backwards 😂
1,200 more songs and you two catch up with me. LOL Kidding aside, this is great stuff - "be intentional" - that's a key to success in almost any field. Jody
Ha! That's over several decades :). It was a lot of fun getting there. Each of us has over 7500. But it's a full career worth of songs for a pro songwriter. I still enjoy every song like it was my first. ~Cheers, CM
@@SongTownUSA Write on! Anyway, I guess we’re all on our own journey. I’m a (young) 50 y/o lawyer who’s been writing songs on the side forever, but still learn so much from each SongTown vid.

I don't seek a great life as a songwriter... just one great song as a life-writer 🙂LOL!!!
love that! ~CM
Man… 15,000 songs.
I’m not sure if that’s inspiring or depressing…
