Melt In Your Mouth Pork Belly That Makes U Go Mmm! Dong Po Rou 东坡肉 Chinese Braised Pork Belly Recipe

  • This Chinese Braised Pork Belly is known as Dong Po Rou 东坡肉, which is said to be created by Su Dongpo when he was banished to Hangzhou. Traditionally this dish is made by pan-frying the pork belly first then the pork is braised over low heat. However, you know we love to simplify methods without compromising the taste so we took away the pan-frying part and went straight to braising immediately after the pork is blanched. No worries - this doesn't affect the taste of the dish. We hope you will find this simplified method useful in your daily cooking. Please try it and we hope you will go mmm like we did. :)
See the ingredient list below for your easy reference.
Hope you can recreate this yummy dish in the comfort of your home. Happy cooking!

I made this today and it is so amazing! So fragrant and tender, the whole family loves it! I did add a bit of garlic and a tiny dash of 5 spice powder to the braised mixture, the nice smell is out of this world! I even made the thinly sliced version for my dysphagia 73 y.o. father, and he totally loves it, he can eat it with no problem because the pork really melts in the mouth. Thank you sooo much for sharing this recipe! Wish you many blessings in return!

I follow ur instruction and i like salty flavor but it is way too salty. I am sure it is because of the light and dark SoySauce brand i used. I am using ABC brand. I will buy good one and try again.

This is a quick way to get the tender melt-in-your-mouth results for authentic braised pork belly. I have made it several times using the 4 to 6 hrs oven braising method. I am now a fan of your recipe/method. Gotta do this sooner than later. I just saw a who pork belly at my local Sam's Club. But I also live close to HMart and usually buy a whole belly or sliced slabs there. Thank you for such a great recipe that will allow me to have more time to enjoy this meal instead of watching it cook slowly in the oven or on top of the stove.

Oh, Dong Po Rou, the classic Chinese braised pork belly! This dish is such a wonderful representation of the rich culinary heritage of China. The slow cooking process of pork belly results in that tender, melt-in-your-mouth texture that's simply irresistible. It's amazing how a dish with such humble beginnings has become a beloved delicacy worldwide. The blend of flavors, from the sweet to the savory, really makes every bite an adventure for your taste buds. And the fact that it's so versatile, pairing well with a variety of side dishes, just adds to its charm. Enjoy the delightful experience of savoring this dish!

That looks amazing! I don't suppose you can tell me how chinese takeaway bbq sauce is made? What is added to the water the ribs are cooked in? I am 100% going to have to make these. Thanks for sharing.

I made it. I just used oyster sauce and ponzu instead of the soy sauces you recommended and it was delicious. Thank you.

Thank you for the recipe :). However it would have been great to see how you 'Completed" this dish to serve? For example how did you finish the sauce/gravy?

The chinese really know how to make dishes with pork belly! When I visited China - pre-plague - I always came back with some extra weight. ;)

I tried this recipe already when I was in Taiwan, way back 2006. Akong (Grandpa) teached me how to cook this kind of recipe and it's so delicious. I tried àlso the leg part of the pork and can't resist not to eat.. The softness of the pork makes more yummy.
