@@jackjackson2605 The MCU has been doing that, issues that affected people. The Captain America Trilogy. The First Avenger Steve started off as a loyal soldier doing what they said because he thought that was the right thing to do. Winter Soldier's story about survailence, government corruption, privacy and rights of the people. Civil War was about questioning the government. Tony believes the Avengers should be under government control because he believes the Avengers need Supervision while Cap disagrees because for valid reasons like the government being a group of people with agendas, to easily corrupt. The Suicide Squad just proves that the MCU has no excuse to shoot all of their movies in CGI. The Suicide Squad had quite a bit of CGI but it was primarily shot on location and looked amazing because of it.
@@EricCarter12 you should in my opinion. At first you notice how bad the animation is but the more you watch it the less you pay attention to the animation and the episodes keep getting better and better. Although the first episode is not worth watching
@@EricCarter12 You should watch Shang Chi. It is a great movie. Now, yes, it does have flaws, but it has a lot of good elements and the execution for most of it is great.
Black Widow arguably should have been released prior to Endgame, since it didn't really feel like a send off for Natasha. However, Florence was amazing as Yelena, and I can't wait to see her next project in the MCU!
Can you imagine if Scott Adkins played Taskmaster in Black Widow? His charismatic yet menacing presence would emphasize Taskmaster's dominance and personality, especially enhancing the intense combat scenes with Black Widow. Now, picture the Russo Brothers directing the film after Civil war, resulting in a darker tone, more deeper character development, and a focus on the Red Room with Pre-Taskmaster (Tony Masters) as their brutal handler/trainer for the Red Room, strengthening the relationships between Black Widow, Yelena, Red Guardian, Melina and Hawkeye in this movie. Under the brothers direction, Red Guardian would become a nostalgic Soviet-era fatherly hero, offering humor and a quest for redemption especially after being in confinement for years, setting him apart from Captain America who also felt lost after time has past (Ice and Prison comparison). I mean, the film could open with a flashback to the Budapest mission, showing Black Widow and Hawkeye attempting to eliminate Taskmaster, who was believed to be a deadly threat for SHIELD. This mission would establish Taskmaster's reputation as a formidable adversary and reveal the history between these characters. After the Budapest mission, Taskmaster was believed to be dead, and both Natasha and Clint carried the weight of their past decisions. This belief would haunt them, as they were never sure if they had truly eliminated the threat. This uncertainty would have left them emotionally scarred. This would make Taskmaster reappearance send shockwaves through Natasha and Clint's lives. Taskmaster's quest for revenge, driven by the belief that Black Widow betrayed him, would become the central conflict of the film. His mission to hunt them down would add an element of personal stakes and danger. Black Widow and Hawkeye would have to work together with Natasha's "family" to combat Taskmaster. (This would be interesting because Clint probably never met Natasha's family before Natasha joined with Shield, and would be interesting to explore. Taskmaster's supersoldier serum would be unique, more centered around mimicry and photographic reflexes, making him a terrifying and psychologically ruthless antagonist against Black Widow who would be outmatched in a fight against a supersoldier. Taskmaster wouldn’t be a mute either but an arrogant, terrifying, sadistic supersoldier with a need to prove his superiority to Black Widow. Imagine Taskmaster was more scarier in a Terminator-like role, relentlessly hunting our heroes. The film would then be filled with high-stakes chases, psychological warfare, and testing team dynamics between Black Widow, Hawkeye and her family especially if given something to do to ward off Taskmaster for a time. Finally, consider how Black Widow would win through strategy and emotional resonance, exploiting Taskmaster's limitations for a satisfying and intense final confrontation. I mean, imagine if the action scenes were any similar to John Wick and Captain America: Winter Soldier? All of these changes would collectively reshape 'Black Widow' into a darker, character-driven, and action-packed film, with unique character dynamics, an intimidating but memorable antagonist, and emotionally resonant victories for the heroes.
Even though the First Avenger is my friend, indeed Captain America movie, I have to agree with you that Winter Soldier is 100 times better than Black Widow because for the love of God what has Disney and the rest have done,Black Widow was a comic disaster than it reminded me about Captain Marvel,AND THOSE 2 MOVIES ARE EQUALLY BAD,the characters were horribly written, the jokes were bad,the story was awful, the risks and consequence don't exist, and the biggest sin of all was what the movie did to Taskmaster,as a comic book and well written story fan I feel disgusted by this abomination of a chance, overall Winter Soldier deserves a 9 out of 10 and Black Widow deserves a 2 out of 10,the movie could have been better, but it suffers from the occasion of it's just too little too late, great video as always Eric Carter.
We never got a proper Black Widow standalone film. What we got was an excuse to justify Capt. Marvel being seen as an “acceptable” film at the expense of Natasha Romanov’s character.
Aside from the obvious money reason, I don't get why a Black Widow film happened AFTER her in series death. Not only have people been wanting this film for a decade before the film was announced, it takes alot away from the character's death in the series even if this movie does take place way before Endgame
The only reason for the film is to introduce her replacement ie her Sister, Yeleena...THATS IT it was SUPPOSED to be a love letter n proper fairwell to Natasha, but it was SO BAD, it was more an insult to the character. IF it was done right and released years ago in phase 2/3 when it was SUPPOSED to be, then I have NO DOUBT it wouldce done better than Captain Mehvel. Afterall...unlike Brie Larson, people actually like Scar Jo. N unlike Captain Mehvel...people ACTUALLY WANTED her solo film...but NOT AFTER SHE DIED. The way the MCU handled BW is to me outrageous. Ut seems like tgey deliberately went out there way to di everything in their power to sabotage this film...from the delayed release, the bad script rewrites, and then finally refusing to release it in cinemas...all lead to the disaster that it was. And IMO it was all to protect their precious Captain MARysueVEL.
I’m gonna go on record and say that the “pose” joke in Black Widow actually worked, but most of them were hit-and-miss, and the sterilization joke was especially in bad taste. But Black Widow takes way too long getting started (with a great opening scene), and yes it needed to come out after Civil War. Black Widow should’ve been named “Yelena”, because she feels like a side character who does nothing for the first forty minutes. I also would’ve preferred that we see a Hawkeye/Black Widow mission. The pheromone thing is so stupid, and the main forgettable villain does feel like a misogynist. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t hate Black Widow, but it wasn’t a worthy tribute to the character, and deserved a better story.
That was so distasteful of the mother torturing that pig. I didn’t hate her in the movie, but I didn’t feel for her for failing to be a parent to Natasha and Yelena.

25:52 Wanna add 1 thing Eric: Don't forget that Winter Soldier is also *Falcon* movie (his arc/development in Winter Soldier was *far superior* than his newer, 6 long episodes of his miniseries...)
I'm re watching TFATWS with a semi critical eye-on episode 4-and I agree. Also, even though I like him in both movies, Black Panther is MUCH better in the SMALL amount of screen time he's given in Civil War than his OWN movie.
One of my biggest problems with Endgame was how little anyone seemed to care about her. They mourn her for about three minutes sincerely, before ruining the moment with another Thorbowski joke. A few minutes later, they’re all cracking jokes again. Sure, she got a little lip service, but implicating Hawkeye in her death is going too far. And she wasn’t done justice in the 2 1/2 hour movie named after her. So I feel the same. Didn’t hate the movie, but it’s Winter Soldier/Mission Impossible lite.
Same. In my oppinion I thought Banner/Hulk wouldve had an emotional reaction considering how close they were in Age of Ultron. In my oppinion HULK shouldve gone beserk and gotten angry...not just at the loss of Natasha but everyone else too...Vision, Loki, Heimdall, etc...afterall he IS the STRONGEST and so he would feel partially to blame for not being able to save them n stop Thanos when he had the chance I have a Fanfic where at the moment of Thanos's ship is bombarding the ground. Prof Hulk steps out from the smoke n sees all his fallen commrades and sees Thanos standing over them with a smile on his face. This enrages the hulk. Just then a great wave if anger takes over hulk n he gets REALLY MAD, madder than hes EVER been before. The Hulk leaps into the sky crashing into Thanos ship, smashing through the inside beating up the crew as he goes along. Then leaps up through the ceiling and then finishes it off with a Double Handed Seismic Smash. Afterwards he jumps down towards Thanos so he can get his rematch. Only this time hes much angrier and much stronger...so much stronger that Thanos has to take the power stone in hand just to get him off him and then just like with Captain plankface, he gets blasted away and is sent flying. This is good because it gives some meaning to Natashas loss It gives Hulk a 2nd chance fir gin to get his revenge. And it gives hulk something to do other than being wasted. And best of all...dont need Captain MarySue then.
Star Trek Abrams Trilogy. VS Star Wars Disney Sequel Trilogy. Think you can cover multiple movies teamed up against the other team? Or is cinematic tag team too much work (From my perspective Trek is the somewhat superior series.)
About taskmasters gender, they actually used male stunt doubles which makes the gender just a total mind f*ck Yes I do realize he went over that, that happened about 30 seconds after I wrote this
They were both good movies , but Winter Soldier was better. The Black Widow just was too overwhelming, with what she was facing. Facing all those villains on her own not realistic. Plus I wanted to see a original story, not a follow up to Civil War. Instead it would have been much more interesting to see how she went from a assassin to a agent of Shield.
@@EricCarter12 u know? After watching the video, I’m kinda disappointed of Marvel, or Disney, I suppose. They just use SO MANY cgi’s now. I want to say, I was worried this was going to be a one sided review, seeing as how you mentioned Winter Soldier is your favorite MCU movie. You did give a fair assessment on both films. While I did enjoy BW, particularly because of David Harbour and Florence pew-pew, Natasha felt more or less a guest in her supposed origin film that as you stated felt like set ups for other characters. The Winter Soldier is a nearly flawless film, even if it was removed from the MCU timeline, it could be watched and enjoyed on its own. Black Widow, I agree should have came out after Civil War, coming out in 2020/2021 felt too little, too late and I really have no interest in owning it because Natasha already had so many great character arcs in previous films that her presence in this one feels underwhelming and wasted.
What I would do to add stakes for Black Widow is that I would put her family in danger instead of Black Widow, that way she has something to lose, but before I do that, I would introduce the characters and bring out their emotional side so you can route for them to survive

And also instead we got Captain Femenist Movie Marvel before Black widow
Hey, I think this important. The scene with Pugh talking about the widow mutilation. I think that joke is definitely okay. Near perfect. As a victim of sexual Trauma, like myself. I use humor and kind of have a desensitized way I talk about it. And she’s a soldier essentially and has come to terms with it so even the way she was saying it was soooo similar to how I would talk about my trauma. It’s essentially a defensive mechanism to lessen the severity in our own minds. Idk. I’ve heard people complain about that and I love it. I think a lot of people that haven’t experienced major trauma want to be all precious and empathetic and say sorry. But a lot of us don’t want your pity. We’ve handled it. We just want to joke about it without making things awkward. So if you can joke back. It’s the best.
Hey Thomas. I haven't seen Loki or What If. I will watch an episode or two of What If at some point. But right now, I am just feeling much happier not watching any MCU stuff as I just spot way too many storytelling and filmmaking problems when I watch them. @@EricCarter12 trust me on this one. The 1st 2 episodes of what if are not at all very good. The 3rd one is from where the really interesting stuff starts. And you know how you said the MCU cannot do dark and serious? Well then, you are in for a treat. Also I know you complained how this should have been live action, but trust me on this one, they did a good job by choosing animation as there is no way in hell they would allow Disney to show the violence in live acrion that they showed here. What did you think of the opening scene with the Nirvana song? I thought that was pretty grim and wish there were more scenes like it in the movie as well as the MCU.
I do disagree with the Yondu clip mostly because it was more to say that Yondu doesn’t care about whatever the merchant was saying since he’s a ravager
Also is from a James Gunn movie, which is his style and works better because it fits the characters and universe of his stories (I mean, he has made a movie about a talking Racoon, you cant made that without adding some comedy). Sadly, Disney thinks that by replicating poorly the same style in their other movies could work and made the movie better, and that isn't true; Not all the characters from Marvel, specially the serious ones, are able to fit the comedy like the Guardians of the Galaxy cause they're not design for the same scenario; It's like if we tried to fit freaking Kite man in the Dark Knight universe, it just doent fit. Disney needs to learn that and tried to follow the example from Loki. New ideas and good plots first, Jokes later and only when they're needed, not every five seconds.
I agree with Yondu's interruption. Also with M'Baku, he didn't care if Black Panther was planning to save his kingdom because he had opposition against him. So when he yawned, sarcastically asking were they done, it worked. However, and yes, I haven't seen either movies, those interruptions jokes from Spider-Man: Home Coming + Far From Home are bad.
Aight commenting on my new channel, TWS wins hands down. It's a 10/10 thriller fest, while BW at best was a 5/10 flick. Also, writing finished for Game of the Dead, and so I need to set up the server and we'll start filming.
Black widow's story isn't an espionage flick, it is a redemption flick sprinkled with a family sitcom. Natasha doesn't have an arc, she has a goal because that goal is fueled by her first arc of defecting to shield and severing ties with people she treated as family. Dreykov's daughter was mentioned by Loki in the first Avengers movie as one of the bits of red in her ledger she wants to wipe out. Dreykov chooses girls because girls are the easiest to kidnap and traffic. finally, a clothespin falls off the nose while severing the nerve is more potent in allowing Natasha to fight, she also tried to bait Dreykov into hitting her face so he could sever the nerve, but he wasn't strong enough to. I'm sorry you didn't like this film
I think when yelena was joking about her getting sterilized was made as a joke cause yelena was using humour to cope it’s something a lot of people to do it’s also because the script was originally very sexist so they improvised this scene
I've heard a lot of people make that excuse. But if that's what they were going for, it did not come through. It just felt like another generic and out of place MCU joke.
@@EricCarter12 I agree, but understand what the MCU was going for. At least they didn't go as far as to shame her for what happened like other movies would have done. Still, this scene alone pissed me off.
@@yobabycolin2933 the closest thing to this is actually Iron Man, but Iron Man worked because he didn't joke about being nearly killed by terrorists and made it perfectly clear that he was traumatized. I'm guessing they are leaning to self parody after it worked in Endgame but Endgame worked better because it was an end of a series and was done to contrast the present day Avengers to their past selves.
I was actually so disappointed in the black widow movie. The trailers seemed pretty cool but the whole time I'm watching to movie, I was expecting more to happen and it never did.and I was Super excited for taskmaster and then we got that.
The scenes with Yandu making blabablidu noise and MBaku saying "Are you done?" are actually funny scenes. In fact I pretty much imitate Yandu a lot in real life when ppl keep telling me things I already know. However, I do agree with the rest. MCU tries too hard to be funny! MCU take notes from LOTR.
SPOILER FOR HAWKEYE 8 months later, the post credit scene is particularly irritating since they just resolved it by being like “you killed my sister”. “No I didn’t”. “Ok. Let’s be friends”
I think that captain marvel shouldve came out when black widow and vice versa so that we would’ve been in the dark about carol and her movie would’ve gave us clearance and this movie would’ve been able to give us tension that she might die or hell it could’ve been the Budapest mission
Tbh I didn’t mind the gender bending of Taskmaster, what made me mad was that they had a man in the suit so it made the character being a woman feel pointless

I think this movie should've had a similar feel to Jason Bourne in the sense that it's an intense spy thriller with maybe a hint of horror. Obviously this movie should've come out after Civil War and before Infinity War. The jokes in the movie should be limited down to a few scenes between the family or Natasha and Yelena trying to rekindle their sisterhood. The idea I had for this film would is that the first act should've taken place over the course between the Avengers and Winter Soldier, showing how Natasha uses her connections at Sheild to try and track down where the Red Room is, and could maybe learn that Drakov was still alive. Then the events of Winter Soldier and AoU could hinder her ways of tracking it down. The second act could take place during the events of Civil War, she could be trying to take down the Red Room while also trying to stay undercover from the government. (We could even see some tech she kept ahold of like the face mask she uses in Winter Soldier and even in this very movie). Over the course of this Natasha and Yelena meet up after a while. It could be mentioned that Natasha thought Yelena was dead. Yelena's subplot prior to meeting Natasha could also show the ins and outs of the Red Room. We could get a better idea of how horrifying this place is. Also I thought the 3rd act would take place entirely inside of the Red Room facility. Natasha and Yelena are trying to get to Drakov and have to maneuver around the other Black Widows. It could have a claustrophobic horror movie feel. Even if this movie came out after Endgame with this idea, it could play with the fact that Black Widow herself doesn't change by keeping it as a spy thriller and letting the story unfold and keep us interested in the rest of backstory. Also I think the opening could've transitioned from Natasha and Yelena being taken as children to them being trained and before the title card we see Clint (Hawkeye) deciding not to kill her in Budapest.
Did it really?? I've heard some people say the jokes weren't that bad in the movie and others saying that they practically have another Kat Dennings in the film. When the film comes to streaming I will watch and try to review it.

the winter soldier always reminded me of how to make a human terminator, you have to take any free will, any sign of humanity must be destroyed, every part of personal life or anything outside of the mission is unhallowed and must be erased.
I liked the film overall but the Taskmaster-Twist was a big let-down imo. I feel like Taskmaster shouldve been the son of Dreykov. Like have Dreykove have 2 children, one is the Taskmaster and the other is his daughter, Antonia. Dreykov having a son as The Taskmaster would be more interesting and instead of being mind-controlled, he is motivated by the cause as his father and will be more closer to the comics. As for Antonia, she could be the next Taskmaster after her brother is defeated in this film and this would set her up to be the main-antagonist for a potential Black-Widow sequel but with Yelena as the main-lead. Personally, I don't mind or care if they gender-swapped but this is the direction I would take.
I’d argue that Ever Anderson showed much more emotion in the beginning of the movie than Scarlett Johansson did in the rest of the movie it’s heartbreaking when Young Natasha is trying to protect Yelena when they are being taken away to the red room by Dreykov
I thought I was the only one that noticed that Black Widow was exactly like Captain America the winter soldier. I didn't like The Black Widow movie and I think that both Scarlett Johansson and her character Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow were done a massive injustice by this solo movie. Thank You 👍😇

Black Widow doesn’t even hold a candle to The Winter Soldier, but this should be an interesting comparison
I was expecting something like WS bcs of similar background which is why I was more disappointed when saw it.

The more I thought about what they did to taskmaster, the more pissed I become.
Hi, Eric it's good to see your versus videos back!

Nice, Marvel can use some of this type of comedy
It’s also accurately handled despite being an overused trope.
It fits in character that’s why & makes sense. What are the chances your phone rings whilst your in the middle of your evil speech.
Black Widow's movie should have switched places with Captain Marvel and just introduce the latter for Phase 4.

What I think the first problem of Black Widow is the same problem that ruined Han Solo spinoff
What problem is that?
Irrelevance
We know where Han Solo is going to end up in his origin movie (which no one asked for). Similarly, in this movie we know where Natasha will end up
It could've had relevance if it had been released during Phase 3.
Aside from the obvious money reason, I don't get why a Black Widow film happened AFTER her in series death. Not only have people been wanting this film for a decade before the film was announced, it takes alot away from the character's death in the series even if this movie does take place way before Endgame
They needed Cpt. Marvel to be loved, so they sacked Black Widow.
@@billbillson2276 They wanted to push her as the new big female character into the MCU as they knew black widow will be gone soon.
The only reason for the film is to introduce her replacement ie her Sister, Yeleena...THATS IT
it was SUPPOSED to be a love letter n proper fairwell to Natasha, but it was SO BAD, it was more an insult to the character.
Not even a contest Winter Soldier.
Ok, but the interruption joke from Guardians of the Galaxy was actually pretty funny.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING EVER SINCE I SAW THE POLL
I hope it was just me but when he show clips of every time the MCU has used that interruption joke I laughed like crazy 😂😂😂🖐
Comparing black widow to a Russo brother movie is basically like comparing Josstice league to infinity war. It’s an embarrassing defeat
About the toppling cars, I remember how well Christopher Nolan did it in Inceptoon
I felt more for the pig that couldn't breath than any of the other characters in Black Widow
That was so distasteful of the mother torturing that pig. I didn’t hate her in the movie, but I didn’t feel for her for failing to be a parent to Natasha and Yelena.
My gosh Eric I can't say how much I love your work keep it up!

It was/is.
Yes sir
In my oppinion HULK shouldve gone beserk and gotten angry...not just at the loss of Natasha but everyone else too...Vision, Loki, Heimdall, etc...afterall he IS the STRONGEST and so he would feel partially to blame for not being able to save them n stop Thanos when he had the chance
I have a Fanfic where at the moment of Thanos's ship is bombarding the ground.
This is good because it gives some meaning to Natashas loss
It gives Hulk a 2nd chance fir gin to get his revenge.
And it gives hulk something to do other than being wasted.
And best of all...dont need Captain MarySue then.

As a victim of sexual Trauma, like myself. I use humor and kind of have a desensitized way I talk about it.

Eric doesn't seem to get how these humors work though.
Aight commenting on my new channel,
TWS wins hands down.
I didn't like Black Widow either. So let's agree to disagree.
7:32 tbf, this joke does kind of establish the frenemy relationship that they always had with each other, so if anything it’s natural.
Have u seen Loki? It’s the best MCU show IMO. It seems very important to the future of the MCU as well.

I think that captain marvel shouldve came out when black widow and vice versa so that we would’ve been in the dark about carol and her movie would’ve gave us clearance and this movie would’ve been able to give us tension that she might die or hell it could’ve been the Budapest mission
Imagine if they made a joke about the infinity stones and their significance - oh wait.
Tbh I didn’t mind the gender bending of Taskmaster, what made me mad was that they had a man in the suit so it made the character being a woman feel pointless
Winter Solider is definitely a stronger film.
Black Widow was about women taking back control after being gaslighted, objectified and controlled by awful men like Harvey Weinstein and Eric Carter.

Likewise.
Eric you should compare Dune 1984 vs 2021 when the new one comes out.
I’d argue that Ever Anderson showed much more emotion in the beginning of the movie than Scarlett Johansson did in the rest of the movie it’s heartbreaking when Young Natasha is trying to protect Yelena when they are being taken away to the red room by Dreykov
Okay, I understand the repetitive joke of cutting people off, but the Yonduu one was actually pretty funny

I thought I was the only one that noticed that Black Widow was exactly like Captain America the winter soldier. I didn't like The Black Widow movie and I think that both Scarlett Johansson and her character Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow were done a massive injustice by this solo movie. Thank You 👍😇
Do a Black Widow vs Captain Marvel movie.
