    I just got my first small set of artist's gouache (Holbien) and my jaw actually dropped as I put a few strokes of various colors on the paper -- it was so different than my Annigoni kid gouache. Pigment load alone was amazing...... but there is a luminosity I don't think I quite expected. Seriously, I would swear I heard the Angels singing! I see this same luminosity in Sarah Burns work and I can see it in the piece you're painting for this video. I am suddenly, totally hooked.There is something special about gouache..

    You’re the best at bringing a flat painting to life! Adding dimension is something I continue to work on. Taking a photo is so helpful! I don’t know how many times I have posted a pic for one of your courses, then quickly taken it down to adjust and repost. 😅 Thanks for the video Lindsay. Have a great weekend.

    ❤ the "mother" palette idea with the staple colours and space for the rest. You are so right about the artist vs student quality. Better gouache has reduced my frustration and increased the fun. I enjoyed watching you paint this, thanks Lindsay!

    Love this. You need to give us more gouache videos! I have 3 or 4 white dinner plates from the dollar store as palettes and rarely clean them off. I just keep using what's there and mixing more colours. No waste and so much less expensive. I have tried using a divided palette but I find it too fiddly with all the little sections and always run out of paint.

    I took a colors class some years ago, and the teacher forced gouache on us as the medium used. And it HAD to be Winsor & Newton. I was using Reeves at first in a palette so she wouldn't know, because the WN wasn't cheap. But I quickly found out there's a huge difference in quality. I hated it in the beginning because it was so different from what I was used to. She was fond of saying your paint mixture should me like "whole milk." It was a learning curve but now I love to paint with it.

    Rubber and clear stamping questions: How do you clean your stamps? Do you condition them with something? Do you have a homemade cleaner you use? Do you use a shammy? How about just plain water for cleaning them? Sorry for all the questions...just want my stamps to have longevity! ( In process of organizing craft room and finding lots of dirty stamps. ) Thank you, LIndsay!!

      I put dish soap and glycerin with a lot of water in a spray bottle and is that with a rag or stamp scrubber. If the rubber ones get dry you can coat them with glycerin and leave it on and they will be supple when you use them next. Keep all stamps away from light, especially clear ones.

    Look’s lovely Lindsay. Got professional gouache for last Christmas, um still haven’t opened as what I am painting with the jelli gouache is mech not the best. Thinking I should open and just try after watching. Love how you use this gouache and especially the end result. Thank you for a rather awesome video.

    The majestics from R&L are fine for this too. I left mine in water and it was fine after, not something Id recommend but I just forgot to take it out lol

    I opened a couple of new tubes of watercolor (1 blue and 1 magenta) and the paint kinda came out on their own. So wiped the tubes on a piece of water color paper and sprayed the blobs with water. I tilted the paper to move the paint around and left it to dry. After World Watercolor month, I found the piece of paper again and thought, "I wonder what I can do with these blobs?". So I played with it until I created something interesting, but that I was NOT in love with. I added more layers of paint to the blobs which are like 2 lacy flowers facing away from each other and I added a field of green between them. Then, since I love the Kuretake gold metallic paint, I went to town adding lines on the "flowers". Like I said, it's OK.I posted it on Facebook for my friends and family to see, like I do most of my work. OMG, you would have thought I'd painted the Mona Lisa! RAVE reviews. One person I know who's a mixed media artist said "I thought that was a Georgia O'Keefe for a minute!" What? That? It just goes to show you how subjective art can be. I'm looking at that painting right now and I just don't get it. LOL!

    That is one thing I like about art. I try something new and maybe I am not really sure if I like it. Maybe I stressed a little when I was creating it. I walk away from it. I'll look at it a few hours later or maybe tomorrow. I look again and say, "How cool! I like it now!"

    Will the blending medium also help reduce cracking when the paints in the wells dry?

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  15 днів тому +1

      It may, I'm not really sure as it slows the drying but it does evaporate. Ask me in a few weeks. I'll know better then. Glycerin will prevent cracking but it can make the paint more transparent and might make it less matte.
