Great sat chat! I still use the old " tried and true" red rubber stamps that I have, but i dont buy them much unless theyre unmounted. It more for storage space than anything. I can store the unmounted ones much easier. I won't buy one unless i have at least 3 different ideas on how I'll use it. That's just the way I am judging the purchase of any craft supplies now. I'm going on 80, so how much more stuff do i want to accumulate!! Have a sensational Saturday, and a good upcoming week!❤
@@jimflack9462 I do the same, it I see that it’s a stamp that can be used many ways I get it, I usually go for abstract/ grunge style, I do get Tim holtz stamps but usually the floral or background style stamps, usually nothing Halloween because it’s not really reusable much, I don’t make Halloween cards, I usually make birthday & holiday & the rest is for my mixed media journaling.
@nedanashu5025 that's so cool! I don't celebrate Halloween, not even treating. When my kids grew up and I moved into a neighborhood where there are very few kids, I quit. Like you, I make birthday and holiday cards. This will be my 49th year making Christ m as cards. I've already started. Last year I made over 50. Most were different. I like to individualize ea h one to fit the person I'm sending it to.
My mindset about card making has really changed. I have way too many supplies to the point where I feel totally overwhelmed pulling everything out to make a card. Now a lot of companies have kits to make 6-8 cards and I enjoy using them. I only send cards to special people that I know appreciate them. I've donated many supplies to a store that supplies art student and has stamping coloring classes for young children for free from low income homes. I'm been making cards for almost 25 years so as you can guess I'm no spring chicken and I'm on a quest to doing major downsizing.
Agree! It has become so expensive and you cant reap your money back when you want to sell your supplies. I have started to use my other art in cards now instead. Much cheaper
Weightlifting is so important to stave off sarcopenia, joint health, help with bone density, and helps with metabolic health. I do both cardio and weights. I think weights have had the most impact on my shape, but my legs probably get some change from biking, walking, etc. Don't give up yet. I would say keep going. Love your videos.
If you have a short time to exercise some days, lift weights. You burn more calories lifting weights than doing cardio. Also, once it become easy, go heavier; heavy weight brings results! Check your form too; the body loves to cheat and then you wont see results.

Your old videos were the things that inspired my journey beyond scrapbooking. And finding older supplies at thrift stores and yard sales that are someone else's cast offs have turned out to be some of my fav supplies. You still bring out old supplies - I love that. And I agree - rubber stamps are superior. What people don't realize with those cheap stamps is they won't last.
Full-blown benefits of weight lifting will come in your 60s, 70s and 80s, it really prevents frailty. And speaking of posture.. there is no good posture, but any posture is bad if held for a long time. So, movement is great regardless.
I was thinking about this too. My bt friend is 88 years old, and besides having kept all her "buttons," mentally, she's in great physical health, having added weights to her daily workout when she was in her 40s. She has NO osteopenia or osteoporosis. She started doing a daily workout on the Nordictrack about the same time, and did that until she and her husband wore out the machine 25 years later. And she's still going to the gym.
💯 this. Please don't stop resistance exercise. I did for about 8 years and developed osteopenia and osteoporosis in my right hip and lower spine. It sucks. I lost 2 inches of height and I'm terrified of falling or running! If you can, do both! Good luck on Couch to 5k - you can do it!
I recommend a great UA-camr Justina Ercole. She talks about fitness, the variety of workouts, how food works for or against you, etc. She doesn't go for the "fad" stuff and is actually quite honest which I love. I don't find her to be fake or judgemental (except to those fad workout TikTok and UA-cam content pushers).
Your Sat chat this week really resonated with me. I’ve been increasingly aware of the the consumerism nature of the craft and card making industry, not least of all the piles of new stamps and supplies that takes me a long time to actually use them. Granted, i dabble in a few craft hobbies so I’m not always stamping or making cards, but for a hobbyist, the rate of new release is frankly ridiculous. I’ve never shopped for new release and products, but even then I feel the strain from seeing professional card makers constantly talking and using new products. Nowadays, I just watch videos for techniques and ideas, and I’m glad that I still follow an instinctive way of crafting to just use whatever I feel like at the moment, instead of replicating someone else’s work which I feel that it doesn’t add meaning to my craft. Your point about young people not coming in might be true.. I’m in my early 30s and I rarely come across people around my age range. It’s definitely an overwhelming and expensive hobby to get into! I wouldn’t change it for the world, but I would change a lot of decisions on what I bought over the years. Say no to thoughtless consumerism and aspirational purchases!
Agree that stamping is too perfect now compared to when I started 30 or more years ago! I have unmounted many, many wooden stamps however because of the space saving aspect. Thanks for your down to earth messages. Enjoyed them for many years! Keep up the good work!
Yes, your walking, hiking and kayaking all keep you fit and are wonderful. But the weightlifting is essential. Less about getting muscular and super strong, but especially as we age it is maintaining our muscle mass. And they are saying more and more that our muscles are really another organ system and help with our immune system. So definitely stick with it. I am a total wimp and I lift weights at the gym 5 days a week. It is not my favorite. Definitely prefer to walk or bike.
It's the red rubber that is not available- the supplier that Unity Stamps used alerted them that they were going out of business so Unity has started offering clear stamps!!
Unity found another rubber supplier but are going to keep producing the clear stamps too. I'm in Australia & it's been quite expensive to purchase rubber stams and other products from the US. Shipping & the abysmal Aussie dollar have made it nearly impossible 😢
I, too, am shocked at all the stamp companies closing. I started stamping and card making in 2003, and am still at it. I am just watching this video 2 months after you put it out there, and I didn't know Stampendous went out of business! That is a huge loss!! Shocking and so sad. Their quality and designs were amazing. Now, I'm depressed! You had better not go anywhere! I've been watching you nearly as long as I have been stamping!

One of my favorite companies/sites to get those red rubber stamps, The Stampin’ Place, closed down almost 3 years ago because the owners retired and the children didn’t want to take over the business. You could get the mounted and unmounted version of their stamps and they’re sorely missed. You’re right, so many of these places are shutting down and I foresee a time when all we’ll be able to get are those clear stamps which are not and have never been my favorites. Well, time marches own. Thank you for encouraging crafters to use what we already have in your stash as opposed to constantly buying more supplies.

Now I need background paper, dies and a die cutter plus accessories, a stamp positioner, stencils, embossing folders, five different ink mediums (not counting metallics or alcohol inks), 3 kinds of glitter, solid color cardstock with matching envelops, adhesive tape rolls...
I have wooden stamps and the transparent ones, but I think the most fun to use are the ones you make yourself. I think you inspired me to make my own, using erasers (rubbers). Obviously, they're not very detailed and intricate and none of them look perfect, but that's fine, because the one thing they are is unique.
I’m enjoying finding ways to use stamps in my journaling. Wish there were more videos on how to use stamps as metaphor for journaling (vs grungy art journaling).
I enjoy the UA-cam card tutorials, stamp platforms, prescriptions for making cards, clear stamps that line up easily, without these things I would actually most likley not make cards. I find it therapeutic to follow a pattern or video and complete a card. Left to my own self, I would be overwhelmed as to what , and , how, to make something , and it would not be relaxing. My daughter in the other hand, creates all her art from her own vision and she finds that relaxing. Lol, if we were to sit down with the same supplies we create with them very differently. I am a methodical cardmaker and she throws things down on the paper with no hesitation. Cardmaking is a valuable therapy for me and I am thankful for the UA-camrs who share their ideas. You are one of them Lindsay, you are generous to share your talent with us.
I have a few red rubber stamps, but I’m not the greatest stamper, so the clear stamps with my Misti finally gave me the ability to stamp. I don’t know why I am so inept with stamping with a block, but I’d mess up time after time which wasted a lot of my supples. I’d move, press too hard, not press hard enough, not get full ink cover, it was just always something. The Misti was expensive, but in the end I stopped wasting so much paper and ink that I felt it kind of paid for itself. I rarely stamped prior to getting it because I became so frustrated and angry, but I really wanted to be able to use stamps in my card making.
Thank you for your Sat Chat! I always enjoy them but especially today since I am a diehard stamper and cardmaker. I miss Rubber Stamp Tapestry with the Peg stamps. I really liked all the videos you made with those. I kept a little book of pictures and directions for using them. I think stamping (at least like we know it) is going away since we are all getting older. So glad I was able to join in on the fun!
I’m still stamping & companies like Aall & create, lavina, paperartsy, stamper anonymous are still releasing new stamps, & people are making cards, perhaps not as many, but still making them, maybe eventually that will change, the young are missing out not having an art hobby, I know that Aall & create is a younger owned company, most if these companies are UK or European based, maybe it’s just a USA thing. I know our friends in Australia are creating, some people are doing coloring books, and that may be something younger people can do, my friends, 24 year old daughter, knits.
I’ve used weights for DIY physiotherapy when I had frozen shoulder. The weights helped to unlock my frozen shoulder but then I developed pain in my shoulder from using the weights. So I stopped using weights. Fast forward approximately 5 to 7 years and I had a lingering ache in my shoulder. Earlier this year I went to a physiotherapist. I told the therapist about my frozen shoulder and the pain I developed using weights. The physiotherapist made me use resistance bands and a stretching strap instead of weights. The therapy has finished but I still use a resistance band and an exercise strap at home (for my arms and legs). I don’t think it’s my imagination but my arms look leaner, I also use a treadmill, and my legs feel stronger. May be look into both an exercise strap and resistance bands as an alternative to weights. Interesting Sat chat, thank you.
Yes, it's very sad that all these stamping companies are no longer with us. I hope red rubber stays around. Ranger uses a lot of red rubber and still seems very popular with them. With regards to reading, I usually read on my train journey into work and glad to hear recommendations! When my granddaughter visits, she loves to create in my craft room and that gives me joy! We have a couple of new babies in the family and I hope, they will all be able to take something from my collection when I am gone! ❤❤❤
Hullo Lindsay, I remember when I was having trouble getting work as a photographer, I have always worked as a freelancer and in whatever medium that I can earn money for paying the bills! So when I had a drop in orders for pet portraits I was taking little league pictures, soccer teams with individual players shots. So when everyone is out buying digital cameras and leagues are no longer paying for team photos! I had to find a new revenue stream! I have a belief that the wheel keeps turning and keeping up with it can drive you under the wheels, so look out! It looks like art trends are a similar thing, especially now with social media everything is so quick! You just don’t have time to consider your moves. I honestly don’t know how anyone can keep up! I am so glad that I am not working everyday to pay bills! I was forced into retirement after some health issues, but now I just create Art for me when I want to create! I wish you and everyone else out there to just keep working and try to enjoy yourself and what you are doing, it all goes bye so FAST!
It sure does! Luckily, most of my income is from teaching so youtube is mainly a way to share projects and advertise a class when one comes up and if online classes go out of fashion some day I'll go back to in-person teaching. I like how I can reach so many people with this medium tho!
For me personally, the economy is the biggest reason for my declined purchases of any craft product. This horrible economy has forced me back into the work field after 20 years of being a home maker. My husbands income was more than enough for everything plus a lot extra. Things started to change when health insurance premiums DRASTICALLY increased due to Obama Care. I was FORCED to work (at least part time) if I wanted any extra income for extras like school program fee, craft supplies, clothes or eating out. The last 4 years have completed devastated our family financially. Job layoffs, years of unemployment and increased prices of everything like groceries and gas have brought us to the brink of homelessness. My husband and I married as 19 year old babies 33 years ago. On that happy day, I NEVER would have thought that 33 years later we would be worse off than we were as teenagers. My husband is now fully disabled due to a heart attack and stroke brought on from the stress of our economy. He finally has a job (working from home) that pays 90% LESS than his former income which is barley above unemployment. I HAVE to work multiple medial low paying jobs practically round the clock. I rarely have a day off. So now, I do NOT have the income or the TIME to invest into the hobbies I love so very much. I inow that I am not alone....yeah, the economy is a huge reason for the decline of hobby purchases. Furthermore, lots of other hobbies are gaining momentum like art journaling, bible journaling, bullet journaling, glue booking, junk journaling, collage, diamond painting, watercolor, sketching, gel printing, ect. When you enjoy multiple hobbies, the cost and the space needed drastically multiplies. Thanks Lindsay, great topic for this Sat Chat.

Look around it’s better than the one who wants to eliminate healthcare coverage completely. Living off of Two incomes? That’s better than a single person’s struggle. Speaking of craft supplies. Obamaca is not what caused the increase of insurance premiums. The are doing long interviews with many big players in the stamping/paper crafting industry (Gina K, Tim Holtz, Heide Swapp and more). in the first in the series the son of the woman who started Hero Arts talks about how his mom started the business in their apartment bathroom. Lots of reminiscing about companies no longer around and the evolution of that crafting area to the present.

No, but Fran, the owner of Stampedous is going to be designing for Spellbinders. (I follow Scrapbooking Made Simple/Stacey Park who did biz with Stampendous/Fran for years and considers her a friend. SMS also helped Fran clear out/sell her warehouse inventory this past year. @thefrugalcrafter
Wow, sad about impression obsession. I have many of their create a card backgrounds. Two companies that I know own their own vulcanizers are Hero Arts and Ranger. Hero’s is from WW2 era, and they keep it going but there are no parts for it being made anymore. I personally like clear stamps, and although I think my cards are pretty decent, they’ll never be confused with Hallmark😂. Which is good enough for me.
Here I am recovering from second carpal tunnel surgery and glad to be up seeing Sat Chat as I eat breakfast one-handedly! I went through a stage of buying a lot of art supplies, especially during interminable long Teams meetings during COVID! Eventually, though, the fervor died down, and now I buy very seldom, mostly replacements. I am looking forward to retirement early next year and the time for extra "arting" that will open up. Happy Saturday! This was a great Sat Chat since I'm an impulse purchaser and this video reminded me that I can keep using what I have. Something that's hopefully good news: after Fran Seiford closed Stampendous, Spellbinders took over (I'm assuming purchased) her brand and hired her as a designer. This way she gets to enjoy semi-retirement and only work on designing, which I'm assuming is her favorite part. :)
I also want to add that I think her FransFormers line helps move back to the imperfect style of stamping you were talking about. The stamps are designed to stretch and bend and change shape so you're never going to get quite the same image twice.
Great Sat Chat. Sad to hear about companies going away. I have tons of card making stuff, to get me through the next five years. I have been stashing them away for retirement which is on April Fool’s Day. Stampendous can be found at Spellbinders and all those cute little House Mouse stamps. TEMU and Amazon should not be allowed to sell stamps or dies because of stealing. Just because they are cheaper doesn’t make them better. A lot of companies are losing money because of them. People need to pay attention to what country some of this stuff is coming from. I don’t know about TEMU but Amazon discloses who and where the sellers are. I have a favorite company I use to buy every single release in full every month until I ran out of room (and yes I still have them all). I have become concerned for them. I don’t want them to go away.
My book suggestion for your reading pleasure is KAREN WHITE. I have read over 15 of her books and never been disappointed. They are not scary, but there is always a suspenseful twist that keeps me turning the pages as quickly as possible.
GREAT Sat Chat! Red Rubber is the best! I have been stamping for over 3 decades and have 1000s of stamps. I have purchased clear, especially as it is becoming about the only thing offered in “new” designs, but I sometimes struggle to get good crisp images, even with a stamp positioner and cleaning the stamp before first use. SO sad to see Impression Obsession going, but I do understand wanting to retire and the quandary of what happens to your business after 25 years? I also am understanding the importance of weights in an exercise routine. I have had a desk job for the last 15 years, so I sit all day. I am noticing I can’t do some physical things around my home that I once thought nothing of accomplishing. I kayak, I bike, I walk. I am looking to add the strength aspect into my self care. Be well and the book I am getting ready to read is “Pitch Dark” by Paul Doiron. It the latest in a fantastic series about a Maine game warden.
I just did a class on iris folding that I have taught for over 20 years (scary to think it's been that long) that only uses washi paper. With hundreds of women taking my classes over the years, I have not had to replace or buy more supplies other than tape. Students are allowed to cut out as many die shapes they want and even take some of washi paper home. I think I can go another 20 years with what I have in my stash! I love your philosophy on use what you have! During class they have to pick what color combination they want to use (which is the hardest part) and tell them if they don't like it, they can take it apart and try something else. Don't feel my washi paper is too precious not to experiment with. I feel stamping has lost the "creative" part and made it so cookie cutter. Thank you for your videos and the variety of subjects and styles you share.
Another thing killing card making as a craft, IMO, is the cost of postage stamps now. This is the first year, in about 50, that I don't plan on sending out my usual 125+ annual holiday cards (with my list cut down from 200!) because the cost of printing them up (it was over $100 for me last year--and that's on my own paper and black & white only), buying the envelopes, paper, and postage (it was about $80 for me last year) has really become artrageous! At .73 per mailing, it's just become all too pricey!
I agree but I still do the Christmas cards. I used to handmake 75 but not I have prints of my paintings done. The postage is high but I love to send Christmas cards.
I made a simple card with a few lightweight layers & thin foam sheet - when the postal person couldn’t easily slip it through the 1/4” slot measurer, the envelope became a “package” and the thank you card cost me $5 to send. 😳 I keep making cards, but the layers are going away. Oh and if it’s a square envelope prepare to pay more too.

That's too bad about the stamp situation, but I honestly haven't bought any in a couple of years. I have enjoyed collecting mine and use them occasionally. It seems that there are so many people on UA-cam now that it is ridiculously hard to get noticed. I usually go straight to my subscription tab and check to see if those I’m subscribed to have something new to see and watch that first and leave a comment. I’ve not been around for a few months due to illness but you are not the only person I watch who is having the same difficulties. Hope things pick up soon.
I just bought my first stamp today. The only stamps I’ve ever had were one for letters that I got as a kid. They’re all the letters on wood blocks and I still have it. I have wanted to for a while! I hope I could find some at a thrift store. Sadly the thrift stores are marking things up so much because of flippers. So who knows, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled. I really love the idea of stamps. I started to think of them from your videos. I think they could be so nice for many projects. I already am obsessed with ribbons haha. So I can already think of so many uses for stamps.
Sooo re. Temu, Even though I know all the negatives about the company all of a sudden for us in South Africa stamps are available that we couldn't get before because many "Traditional "art companies don't ship to us and the exchange rate just kills us.
I love the focus on using things you have! Idea: it would be fun to see if you did a supplies swap with an art friend where you choose the supplies for your friend and vise versa and you both create something from those supplies (on camera, of course :)).

I started collecting rubber stamps when I was 15, started going to the Original RSC from the beginning ('80s), and I'm now 60! I was even going to work at the L.A. Stampa Barbara store for a quick minute. Therefore, I've seen SO MANY changes over the years! I really wish companies would revert back to quarterly releases verses the current monthly releases. Consequently, I get burnt out on company & creator videos rather frequently and need to take breaks. :( As for book recommendations, I enjoy Toni Anderson's Cold Justice series. They're mystery thrillers, but each book has a different set of characters, therefore they are stand-alone novels, but all are of a similar serial killer or stalker variety. I also really liked Isabella Maldonado's The Cipher, Carol Wyer's An Eye for an Eye, and Debra Webb's The Last Lie Told. Other author's in the genre that I like are Rebecca Zanetti and Lori Ryan, but these series are more mystery romance than more hard mysteries (I switch to these when the serial killer/stalker ones get too heavy after awhile). Similarly, I also like historical romance mysteries like Lynn Messina's Beatrice Hyde-Clare series and Sara Rosett's High Society Lady Detective series. If you like a lighter, snarky vibe in your mysteries with a heavier side of romance, I highly recommend Darynda Jones' Sunshine Vicram's trilogy. I also adored Darynda's paranormal romance Charley Davidson series. This longer series (plus several short stories) has the same tone as the Sunshine Vicram trilogy, but are definitely more urban fantasy than true mystery-thriller. Similarly, but without the paranormal creatures, Cherie Priest does have the new & excellent The Booking Agents (Psychic Travel Agent & Seattle PD detective team up) series -- I believe this series might fall into the "cozy mystery" genre. Honestly, my taste has always been more urban fantasy than the more purist mystery genre, therefore if you decide you like this different type of mystery-thriller, I can give you loads of recommendations. Lindsey you forgot where the crawdads sing! Lol this is close to my heart bc I heard of the book from you. And I got it ASAP bc anything you recommend I always love and that book was no different! It was one of the quickest I ever got through! In fact I was so obsessed and so upset when the book was over I googled the author to see if she had any other books and unfortunately nothing like it and then unfortunately for me I learned about a lot of like drama that the author was involved in with something completely different from her book but yeah where the crawdads saying you recommended it to me and I absolutely fell in love and I am so grateful for you to this day because of that!
I just don’t have space for wooden stamps. I had tons of them before I moved and all but a very few sentiments and basic, basic shapes and designs went to a charity shop. I also got confident enough in my art skills that I realized I could do original work. I’ve even carved my own stamps, so my cards are 99% original, except for a stamped, commercial “Happy Birthday” or whatever the occasion is. I also learned enough techniques about the actual card designs (wiper cards, slider cards, and other fun folds), that even if the artwork isn’t perfect, they’re a lot of fun for the recipient, because they’re so weird! Books - The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune (fantasy focusing on found family and being accepted for who you are) and Yellowface by R.F. Kuang (commentary on publishing industry and social media). There are so many small reasons I’m not stamping as much anymore. The biggest is probably product churn. It’s exhausting and overwhelming to try to keep up when companies are constantly releasing new stuff. By the time you see something you like, place your order, receive the product and have a free day to use it, everyone has moved on to the “next best thing”. I constantly feel left out or left behind, even though a huge part of my desire to stamp is to be part of a community. I feel like the community is more about buying product these days than it is using product.
Excellent point! I felt that way back when I was trying to get published in scrapbooking magazines. By the time I got, used, and submitted the project, the product was discontinued! I'll check out yellowface, I read and enjoyed the other book!
I like red rubber stamps, but the sets are becoming expensive. I noticed craft stores have reduced their selection of rubber stamps on wooden blocks, my favorites. Joanne and Hobby Lobby have reduced Ranger and Tim Holtz craft line. I can buy online, but not a fan of paying for shipping. I love my Tim Holtz products. :) When a stencil is over $5-$6 or very thin Mylar. I don’t buy them. Beware of Temu. They rip off artists merch, prices have increased and the quality is so so. I stopped going to Stampfest events. It was fun to try new products before I buy, but they stopped the make & takes. There are less vendors at the shows. Stampers Anonymous was my favorite booth. It’s a joy when Tim Holtz or Diane Reavely are demonstrating new products. Crafting is a lost hobby. Sad day.
A great book from your neck of the woods: “I Took To The Woods” by Louise Dickinson is an autobiography of her life as a city dweller from Massachusetts marrying a country man from Maine and moving into a remote part of Maine and her life living in a cabin, having a family, and being an author. Fascinating and entertaining… life during the 1920s through 1950s. Right in your backyard! One of my all time favorites. P.S. I really like your hairstyle and make up. You look like you would have fit into the 1940s. You have that classy look!
I took my rubber off the blocks years ago. I do have a few still on blocks. They sit on my bookcase among my books. I would suggest Louise Penny. Find the book that she wrote first and read them in order

I love reading Paul Doiron - he has a series of books about a game warden in Maine. They're classified as thrillers. For me they're a mild thriller, something I can read before bed and not have nightmares.

Hi Lindsay, keep up weight lifting. You may not feeling thing or see anything but it helps your bones. When you have muscles your bones are healthy. You’re in the same category as me, Asian or Caucasian in getting osteoporosis. I don’t want to be taking those meds for osteoporosis which has side effects. Remember to eat daily products to get your Calcium. Stampendous was sold to Spellbinders. I think Fran retired. Yesterday I went I bought a bunch of stuff from Impression obsession. I'm with you Lindsay on stamping. I'm from the old school and love my wooden stamps and the results they produce. I feel I'm cheating if I go in any other direction like using a Cricut. I started out with just a cute clown stamp and some balloon stickers for Birthday cards and slowly evolved my collection from there. I bought only stamps that served a purpose in adding whimsey to my correspondence. So sad to be losing Impression Obsession. They had the greatest products.
I have purchased some equipment and supplies but most of what i have was given to me by a dear friend who purchases lots from estates and thrift stores, goes through and takes what she and family can use, passing the rest on to me. V I have red rubber and clear stamps, ink pads, dies, small bits of many printed papers, and more from these gifts. If you have something you cannot use, please pass it on to someone who can. It's how I'm able to gift others with my cards. Blessings!

Craftstash has been my go to for shopping this year, I love it but.... it is beginning to feel like fast fashion. I recently bought a designers release bundle. It was approximately 66% off. The original release was so recent that American customers hadn't received theirs yet who bought it at full price. There was a full price set of dies that I LOVED. 2 weeks after their release they were 50% off. Maybe a month later they were cheaper. I bought at the 50% off. I have mixed and weird thoughts. They work with new designers who are INCREDIBLY excited to have their own releases. I love several of the styles, sale prices, and I've been happy with the quality. I also don't like the constant churning out of products. I know that is the current model for a lot of businesses.

I just tried searching for rubber stamps recently, but they were all so expensive; now I know why that might be. As for a great thriller suggestion, I love legal thrillers. Robert Bailey has a McMurtrie and Drake series that I read years ago. I fell in love with those characters and storylines. I lifted weights for many years, so much that I was offered to compete in a weight-lifting contest for women. Makes me laugh now that I'm old and my giddy-up has gone to--somewhere.
About algorithms: I just don’t have a full hour of energy to do a tutorial. I would like to see a 15 minute tutorial on pastels with something other than fruit. Like a neat mug with interesting colours that make it pop. I’m tired of flowers too.

All the books by Aletha Romig are great. Nick Pirogs Numbers series like 3:53 was really interesting & a little thriller, Janet Evonovichs plum series is fantastic, funny & a little edge of your seat at times 😊
I read anything by Greg Iles, Linda Castillo, or Karin Slaughter. All 3 write suspense in different ways. Lincoln Childs writes good sci-fi, much like Michael Creighton’s books. Also, the author of Gone Girl has other books that were good. For fun the Jim Butcher books

Fried green tomatoes is a classic! I read it after having watched the movie several times. The movie is one of my all time favs. Kitchen sink stamps went out of business too. They did the photo realistic type layering stamps. I think there was a bit of a boom from the start of the pandemic but as things started to normalize etc, ppl don't have the time anymore. Sorry to see another long loved company going out of business. I know I've slowed my craft spending way down cause I haven't the room for more stuff. Now every time I see something I think where would I put it 😆 and I don't do enough with the stuff I have. Feel like I spend most of my time watching others create while avoiding the mess that is my craft room 😆
If you like Sci Fi and are willing to start a series, I think The Expanse series was some of the best writing I've encountered (in the SF/fantasy realm) since Tolkien. I've reread some of the books multiple times and always stop to read passages out loud to my husband. I'm currently reading Wheel of Time and liking it better than I expected (it's a bit slow but I've got time so I don't mind). I also enjoy the Harry Dresden series. It sits in a variety of genres: noir detective, fantasy, a bit of horror now and then. It has its critics but I own all the books and I, my husband, and my (adult) son have enjoyed them. Of those 3 suggestions, The Expanse is head and shoulders above the other two. (I also enjoyed the Amazon series.)
Here in Australia, craft products are insanely expensive as there is so much freight included or added. I shopped Temu twice, their marketing drives me insane. I also found that a stamp set I purchased from them is counterfeit of Stampin' Up, so that finished me with Temu. I only purchase stamps which will work for scrapbooking, my cardmaking foray was short lived but scrapping is neverending with so many photos coming from family. I made my own stamping platform, it works well. The products which are pushed by companies is unbelievable, who can keep up with purchasing everything so I am of the mindset of reuse and recycle, This includes clothes! Love your channel.
I really liked your statement ,once you buy just commit, if a car or house stop looking at cars and houses. That is so true. I quit being a SU demo for the exact reasons you've mentioned. I had down graded to a hobbyist because I wasn't really into sales and asking others to spend their money. I never pressured anyone and would even teach and show cheaper alternatives but over the years had accumulated way too much. I spent the last 7 months destaching and couldn't sell any of it because the market is so saturated and even had a hard time giving most of it away. I use my favorite stamps and few dies in mixed media now. Art Journaling and watercoloring. I still make cards but they are collage, I too had to change up my style to feel creative and not commercial. My stamp pads and reinkers sound like a duplicate set of yours . I even see so much art done with AI design and digital prints which I don't use. I just love to sit at my art table and just pull out some things and see what I can make from it. I been sketching more and trying to create my own original art as I have been a copier for so long. I hit the like for your channel and comment whenever I can to keep your algorithm alive and happy but I really don't like unboxing as I have been sticking to my no buy. I can't always watch your live painting sessions but I do watch them usually later in the day or when I have uninterrupted time to view and learn. KEEP DOING WHAT YOUR HEART TELLS YOU TO DO. I think that with every craft there is naturally an evolution to improve both the tools, techniques and materials, Card making is not exception, not that the old or new is better, it just more options for the artist to choose from to create. You must have been exceptional because even with a stamp positioner, foil machine and press plates my cards would never be mistaken for machine made. I use them all because they make the process more enjoyable and even more challenging to me I think whatever the craft or the tools available the art comes from how they are used together. It is so funny that even using the same card set, ten people come up with ten wildly different cards. It happens all the time. Yes it is heartbreaking to see these companies close but we should celebrate not criticize when other companies develop new innovative tools, materials and supplies for us to choose from.
Books suggestions: If you can find them, I think you'd really enjoy The Stainless Steel Rat series of sci-fi books by Harry Harrison. The SSR is a very clever conman who gets into (and mostly out of) all sorts of situations. Start with the first one if you can, The Stainless Steel Rat, and know there is a three-books-in-one volume of the first three stories that shows up pretty regularly in libraries and used bookstores.
😕No more red rubber?! Seems so strange. So recently rubber stamps were every where. Rubberstampmadness was a huge magazine. Then, poof! Gone. Maybe the expense did it in.
Its sad about the knock offs really, if the companies go out of business then the knock offs will dry out in a few years too, without anyone realizing why. Well the ones who were pulling the weight, stopped doing it 😢
Great sat chat! I am with you in that I don't like perfect stamping, I am much more of a mixed media or watercolor card maker now. I love the red rubber stamps and the imperfections. Sad to see companies go however I have cut down on purchases because I have so much it can be overwhelming. Now I am more focused on finding what is in my stash that I can use rather than buying a new set.
Same here, I am not replacing my older stuff because it's better quality usually and the same ideas keep cycling around. The industry needs new blood to survive.
I hear you about the churn, it's so much now, too much product too fast all the time. I wait for sales for the most part, there is very few things I buy full price in any area of my life 😂 I have not gone to temu, I do buy from ali but I know a couple of sellers that have their own designers and thats where I buy from. I admit I snapped up products early (low fixed income, not a good excuse I know) on before I knew the deal and then it was a habit I had to break, the quality really isn't there and now I know better so I do better. Instead I buy 2nd hand stuff I like or shop sales. Try to curb the want monster some, sleep on it instead of jumping on it. I often forget to go back and take it as the universes way of saying u didnt need it 😂 I dont see the way companies do business these days as sustainable, just throwing more product at people eventually gives them burnout and guilt because theres not enough hours to use it all. All this to say I think hard on what I buy, try to fill gaps in my inventory and not buy everything as soon as I first see it. Sorry for the long winded post 😂
We have an art gallery selling our own paintings and photos in New Zealand, 20 years this year and we are looking at closing the door. Since COVID everything has skyrocketed in price our framing supplies are up 65% we were informed yesterday shipping is going from $60 to $270 for our long molding packages. The customers have dropped off significantly yet we’re told frequently it the best gallery they have seen. Times are changing sadly, we are selling up and going on the road in a bus!
I used to buy stampendous stamps all the time. Had no idea that they went out of business. Wow. They were so affordable. Those cheap knock offs and counterfeits suck. The quality of those stamps is terrible. I did buy a couple off of Amazon, thinking nothing of it simply liked the design, but when I received them, I realized that the quality was terrible. You don’t get a clear stamp image or the stamp itself is somehow damaged and so you get part of the image and the other image you have to press a little harder so again goes back to quality. It’s terrible so people should not be spending their money on knock, offs, and counterfeits.
Very interesting points about the crafting world. I love collage stamping. And I love just inking up a stamp and putting it on cardstock. I do have a lot of dies and embossing folders but use them mainly as an additive to the stamping. I don't really like die-cut heavy designs. As for reading, I mostly read thrillers and crime fiction. You said you like things with a twist. I just discovered an author I hadn't read before. Candice Fox. The first book I read was Devil's Kitchen. I'm just starting another one, Redemption Point.

I totally understand what you mean about the intuitive process and serendipity moments. That's how I like to work too. I'm not a huge fan of everything being "perfect". Especially with the technology now (which I appreciate), but it's nice to have that handmade vibe!
Great sat chat! I still use the old " tried and true" red rubber stamps that I have, but i dont buy them much unless theyre unmounted. It more for storage space than anything. I can store the unmounted ones much easier. I won't buy one unless i have at least 3 different ideas on how I'll use it. That's just the way I am judging the purchase of any craft supplies now. @@jimflack9462 I do the same, it I see that it’s a stamp that can be used many ways I get it, I usually go for abstract/ grunge style, I do get Tim holtz stamps but usually the floral or background style stamps, usually nothing Halloween because it’s not really reusable much, I don’t make Halloween cards, I usually make birthday & holiday & the rest is for my mixed media journaling.
@nedanashu5025 that's so cool! I don't celebrate Halloween, not even treating. When my kids grew up and I moved into a neighborhood where there are very few kids, I quit. Like you, I make birthday and holiday cards. This will be my 49th year making Christ m as cards. I've already started. Last year I made over 50. Most were different. I like to individualize ea h one to fit the person I'm sending it to.
My mindset about card making has really changed. I have way too many supplies to the point where I feel totally overwhelmed pulling everything out to make a card. Now a lot of companies have kits to make 6-8 cards and I enjoy using them. I only send cards to special people that I know appreciate them. I've donated many supplies to a store that supplies art student and has stamping coloring classes for young children for free from low income homes. I'm been making cards for almost 25 years so as you can guess I'm no spring chicken and I'm on a quest to doing major downsizing.
Agree! It has become so expensive and you cant reap your money back when you want to sell your supplies. I have started to use my other art in cards now instead. Much cheaper
Weightlifting is so important to stave off sarcopenia, joint health, help with bone density, and helps with metabolic health. I do both cardio and weights. I think weights have had the most impact on my shape, but my legs probably get some change from biking, walking, etc. Don't give up yet. I would say keep going. Love your videos.

If you have a short time to exercise some days, lift weights. You burn more calories lifting weights than doing cardio. Also, once it become easy, go heavier; heavy weight brings results! Check your form too; the body loves to cheat and then you wont see results.

Your old videos were the things that inspired my journey beyond scrapbooking. And finding older supplies at thrift stores and yard sales that are someone else's cast offs have turned out to be some of my fav supplies. You still bring out old supplies - I love that. And I agree - rubber stamps are superior. What people don't realize with those cheap stamps is they won't last.
To be fair, a lot of the new stamps are trends, and probably the style won't last either, which is so sad. Everything is eventually trash.
Full-blown benefits of weight lifting will come in your 60s, 70s and 80s, it really prevents frailty.
And speaking of posture.. there is no good posture, but any posture is bad if held for a long time. So, movement is great regardless.
I was thinking about this too. My bt friend is 88 years old, and besides having kept all her "buttons," mentally, she's in great physical health, having added weights to her daily workout when she was in her 40s. She has NO osteopenia or osteoporosis. She started doing a daily workout on the Nordictrack about the same time, and did that until she and her husband wore out the machine 25 years later. And she's still going to the gym.
💯 this. Please don't stop resistance exercise. I did for about 8 years and developed osteopenia and osteoporosis in my right hip and lower spine. It sucks. I lost 2 inches of height and I'm terrified of falling or running! If you can, do both! Good luck on Couch to 5k - you can do it!
I recommend a great UA-camr Justina Ercole. She talks about fitness, the variety of workouts, how food works for or against you, etc. She doesn't go for the "fad" stuff and is actually quite honest which I love. I don't find her to be fake or judgemental (except to those fad workout TikTok and UA-cam content pushers).

Your Sat chat this week really resonated with me. I’ve been increasingly aware of the the consumerism nature of the craft and card making industry, not least of all the piles of new stamps and supplies that takes me a long time to actually use them. Granted, i dabble in a few craft hobbies so I’m not always stamping or making cards, but for a hobbyist, the rate of new release is frankly ridiculous. I’ve never shopped for new release and products, but even then I feel the strain from seeing professional card makers constantly talking and using new products. Nowadays, I just watch videos for techniques and ideas, and I’m glad that I still follow an instinctive way of crafting to just use whatever I feel like at the moment, instead of replicating someone else’s work which I feel that it doesn’t add meaning to my craft. Your point about young people not coming in might be true.. I’m in my early 30s and I rarely come across people around my age range. It’s definitely an overwhelming and expensive hobby to get into! I wouldn’t change it for the world, but I would change a lot of decisions on what I bought over the years. Say no to thoughtless consumerism and aspirational purchases!

Yes, your walking, hiking and kayaking all keep you fit and are wonderful. But the weightlifting is essential. Less about getting muscular and super strong, but especially as we age it is maintaining our muscle mass. And they are saying more and more that our muscles are really another organ system and help with our immune system. So definitely stick with it. I am a total wimp and I lift weights at the gym 5 days a week. It is not my favorite. Definitely prefer to walk or bike.

It's the red rubber that is not available- the supplier that Unity Stamps used alerted them that they were going out of business so Unity has started offering clear stamps!!
So how is Tim holtz stampers anonymous still able to produce rubber stamps?? & they don’t discontinue any.

I am just watching this video 2 months after you put it out there, and I didn't know Stampendous went out of business! That is a huge loss!! Shocking and so sad. Their quality and designs were amazing. Now, I'm depressed! You had better not go anywhere! I've been watching you nearly as long as I have been stamping!

One of my favorite companies/sites to get those red rubber stamps, The Stampin’ Place, closed down almost 3 years ago because the owners retired and the children didn’t want to take over the business. You could get the mounted and unmounted version of their stamps and they’re sorely missed. You’re right, so many of these places are shutting down and I foresee a time when all we’ll be able to get are those clear stamps which are not and have never been my favorites. Well, time marches own. Thank you for encouraging crafters to use what we already have in your stash as opposed to constantly buying more supplies.
With clear stamps, photopolymer are higher quality than acrylic or silicone. Photopolymer stamp very well.

Now I need background paper, dies and a die cutter plus accessories, a stamp positioner, stencils, embossing folders, five different ink mediums (not counting metallics or alcohol inks), 3 kinds of glitter, solid color cardstock with matching envelops, adhesive tape rolls...
Yes, we're were more creative with less.
I have wooden stamps and the transparent ones, but I think the most fun to use are the ones you make yourself. I think you inspired me to make my own, using erasers (rubbers). Obviously, they're not very detailed and intricate and none of them look perfect, but that's fine, because the one thing they are is unique.

I enjoy the UA-cam card tutorials, stamp platforms, prescriptions for making cards, clear stamps that line up easily, without these things I would actually most likley not make cards. I find it therapeutic to follow a pattern or video and complete a card. Left to my own self,
I would be overwhelmed as to what , and , how, to make something , and it would not be relaxing. My daughter in the other hand, creates all her art from her own vision and she finds that relaxing. Lol, if we were to sit down with the same supplies we create with them very differently. I am a methodical cardmaker and she throws things down on the paper with no hesitation. Cardmaking is a valuable therapy for me and I am thankful for the UA-camrs who share their ideas. You are one of them Lindsay, you are generous to share your talent with us.
I have a few red rubber stamps, but I’m not the greatest stamper, so the clear stamps with my Misti finally gave me the ability to stamp. I don’t know why I am so inept with stamping with a block, but I’d mess up time after time which wasted a lot of my supples. I’d move, press too hard, not press hard enough, not get full ink cover, it was just always something. The Misti was expensive, but in the end I stopped wasting so much paper and ink that I felt it kind of paid for itself. I rarely stamped prior to getting it because I became so frustrated and angry, but I really wanted to be able to use stamps in my card making.

I really liked all the videos you made with those. I kept a little book of pictures and directions for using them. I’m still stamping & companies like Aall & create, lavina, paperartsy, stamper anonymous are still releasing new stamps, & people are making cards, perhaps not as many, but still making them, maybe eventually that will change, the young are missing out not having an art hobby, I know that Aall & create is a younger owned company, most if these companies are UK or European based, maybe it’s just a USA thing. I’ve used weights for DIY physiotherapy when I had frozen shoulder. The weights helped to unlock my frozen shoulder but then I developed pain in my shoulder from using the weights. So I stopped using weights. Fast forward approximately 5 to 7 years and I had a lingering ache in my shoulder. Earlier this year I went to a physiotherapist. I told the therapist about my frozen shoulder and the pain I developed using weights. The physiotherapist made me use resistance bands and a stretching strap instead of weights. The therapy has finished but I still use a resistance band and an exercise strap at home (for my arms and legs). I don’t think it’s my imagination but my arms look leaner, I also use a treadmill, and my legs feel stronger. May be look into both an exercise strap and resistance bands as an alternative to weights. Interesting Sat chat, thank you.

Yes, it's very sad that all these stamping companies are no longer with us. I hope red rubber stays around. Ranger uses a lot of red rubber and still seems very popular with them. With regards to reading, I usually read on my train journey into work and glad to hear recommendations! When my granddaughter visits, she loves to create in my craft room and that gives me joy! Hullo Lindsay, I remember when I was having trouble getting work as a photographer, I have always worked as a freelancer and in whatever medium that I can earn money for paying the bills! So when I had a drop in orders for pet portraits I was taking little league pictures, soccer teams with individual players shots. So when everyone is out buying digital cameras and leagues are no longer paying for team photos! I had to find a new revenue stream! I have a belief that the wheel keeps turning and keeping up with it can drive you under the wheels, so look out! It looks like art trends are a similar thing, especially now with social media everything is so quick! You just don’t have time to consider your moves. I honestly don’t know how anyone can keep up! I am so glad that I am not working everyday to pay bills! I was forced into retirement after some health issues, but now I just create Art for me when I want to create! I wish you and everyone else out there to just keep working and try to enjoy yourself and what you are doing, it all goes bye so FAST!
It sure does! Luckily, most of my income is from teaching so youtube is mainly a way to share projects and advertise a class when one comes up and if online classes go out of fashion some day I'll go back to in-person teaching. I like how I can reach so many people with this medium tho!
For me personally, the economy is the biggest reason for my declined purchases of any craft product.
This horrible economy has forced me back into the work field after 20 years of being a home maker. My husbands income was more than enough for everything plus a lot extra.
Things started to change when health insurance premiums DRASTICALLY increased due to Obama Care. I was FORCED to work (at least part time) if I wanted any extra income for extras like school program fee, craft supplies, clothes or eating out.
The last 4 years have completed devastated our family financially. Job layoffs, years of unemployment and increased prices of everything like groceries and gas have brought us to the brink of homelessness.
My husband and I married as 19 year old babies 33 years ago. On that happy day, I NEVER would have thought that 33 years later we would be worse off than we were as teenagers.
My husband is now fully disabled due to a heart attack and stroke brought on from the stress of our economy.
He finally has a job (working from home) that pays 90% LESS than his former income which is barley above unemployment.
I HAVE to work multiple medial low paying jobs practically round the clock. I rarely have a day off.
So now, I do NOT have the income or the TIME to invest into the hobbies I love so very much.
I inow that I am not alone....yeah, the economy is a huge reason for the decline of hobby purchases.
Furthermore, lots of other hobbies are gaining momentum like art journaling, bible journaling, bullet journaling, glue booking, junk journaling, collage, diamond painting, watercolor, sketching, gel printing, ect.
When you enjoy multiple hobbies, the cost and the space needed drastically multiplies.

Jobs are abundant but not in all places ppl live. ACA healthcare known as obamacare is affordable and offering different premiums. Look around it’s better than the one who wants to eliminate healthcare coverage completely. Living off of Two incomes? That’s better than a single person’s struggle.
Speaking of craft supplies. Ppl seem to have money bcuz the items I want are always sold out. Shipping cost will stop me from buying.
Obamaca is not what caused the increase of insurance premiums. Obamacare was necessary because the insurance premiums rose so high that many people could not afford health insurance and were dying.

Have you been watching the series Hero Arts is doing with Jennifer McGuire? The are doing long interviews with many big players in the stamping/paper crafting industry (Gina K, Tim Holtz, Heide Swapp and more). in the first in the series the son of the woman who started Hero Arts talks about how his mom started the business in their apartment bathroom. Lots of reminiscing about companies no longer around and the evolution of that crafting area to the present.

Wow, sad about impression obsession. I have many of their create a card backgrounds. Two companies that I know own their own vulcanizers are Hero Arts and Ranger. Hero’s is from WW2 era, and they keep it going but there are no parts for it being made anymore. I personally like clear stamps, and although I think my cards are pretty decent, they’ll never be confused with Hallmark😂. Which is good enough for me.

Here I am recovering from second carpal tunnel surgery and glad to be up seeing Sat Chat as I eat breakfast one-handedly! I went through a stage of buying a lot of art supplies, especially during interminable long Teams meetings during COVID! Eventually, though, the fervor died down, and now I buy very seldom, mostly replacements. I am looking forward to retirement early next year and the time for extra "arting" that will open up. Definitely have a surfeit of supplies to play with! Thanks for you channel!

Happy Saturday! This was a great Sat Chat since I'm an impulse purchaser and this video reminded me that I can keep using what I have. Something that's hopefully good news: after Fran Seiford closed Stampendous, Spellbinders took over (I'm assuming purchased) her brand and hired her as a designer. This way she gets to enjoy semi-retirement and only work on designing, which I'm assuming is her favorite part. :)
I also want to add that I think her FransFormers line helps move back to the imperfect style of stamping you were talking about. The stamps are designed to stretch and bend and change shape so you're never going to get quite the same image twice.

Great Sat Chat. Sad to hear about companies going away. I have tons of card making stuff, to get me through the next five years. I have been stashing them away for retirement which is on April Fool’s Day. Stampendous can be found at Spellbinders and all those cute little House Mouse stamps. TEMU and Amazon should not be allowed to sell stamps or dies because of stealing. Just because they are cheaper doesn’t make them better. A lot of companies are losing money because of them. People need to pay attention to what country some of this stuff is coming from. I don’t know about TEMU but Amazon discloses who and where the sellers are. I have a favorite company I use to buy every single release in full every month until I ran out of room (and yes I still have them all). I have become concerned for them. I don’t want them to go away.
It's so hard, we want to support all the companies we love, but we all have constraints.
There are times when the fun isn’t there anymore and that’s when I feel like I need to change direction. ❤
My book suggestion for your reading pleasure is KAREN WHITE. I have read over 15 of her books and never been disappointed. They are not scary, but there is always a suspenseful twist that keeps me turning the pages as quickly as possible.

GREAT Sat Chat! Red Rubber is the best! I have been stamping for over 3 decades and have 1000s of stamps. I have purchased clear, especially as it is becoming about the only thing offered in “new” designs, but I sometimes struggle to get good crisp images, even with a stamp positioner and cleaning the stamp before first use. SO sad to see Impression Obsession going, but I do understand wanting to retire and the quandary of what happens to your business after 25 years?
I also am understanding the importance of weights in an exercise routine. I have had a desk job for the last 15 years, so I sit all day. I am noticing I can’t do some physical things around my home that I once thought nothing of accomplishing. I kayak, I bike, I walk. I am looking to add the strength aspect into my self care. Be well and the book I am getting ready to read is “Pitch Dark” by Paul Doiron. It the latest in a fantastic series about a Maine game warden.

I just did a class on iris folding that I have taught for over 20 years (scary to think it's been that long) that only uses washi paper. With hundreds of women taking my classes over the years, I have not had to replace or buy more supplies other than tape. Students are allowed to cut out as many die shapes they want and even take some of washi paper home. I think I can go another 20 years with what I have in my stash! I love your philosophy on use what you have! During class they have to pick what color combination they want to use (which is the hardest part) and tell them if they don't like it, they can take it apart and try something else. Don't feel my washi paper is too precious not to experiment with.
I feel stamping has lost the "creative" part and made it so cookie cutter.

Another thing killing card making as a craft, IMO, is the cost of postage stamps now. This is the first year, in about 50, that I don't plan on sending out my usual 125+ annual holiday cards (with my list cut down from 200!) because the cost of printing them up (it was over $100 for me last year--and that's on my own paper and black & white only), buying the envelopes, paper, and postage (it was about $80 for me last year) has really become artrageous! At .73 per mailing, it's just become all too pricey!
I agree but I still do the Christmas cards. I used to handmake 75 but not I have prints of my paintings done. The postage is high but I love to send Christmas cards.

I made a simple card with a few lightweight layers & thin foam sheet - when the postal person couldn’t easily slip it through the 1/4” slot measurer, the envelope became a “package” and the thank you card cost me $5 to send. 😳 I keep making cards, but the layers are going away. Oh and if it’s a square envelope prepare to pay more too.

That's too bad about the stamp situation, but I honestly haven't bought any in a couple of years. I have enjoyed collecting mine and use them occasionally. I just bought my first stamp today. The only stamps I’ve ever had were one for letters that I got as a kid. They’re all the letters on wood blocks and I still have it. I have wanted to for a while! I hope I could find some at a thrift store. Sadly the thrift stores are marking things up so much because of flippers. So who knows, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled. I really love the idea of stamps. I started to think of them from your videos. I think they could be so nice for many projects. I already am obsessed with ribbons haha. So I can already think of so many uses for stamps.

Sooo re. Temu, Even though I know all the negatives about the company all of a sudden for us in South Africa stamps are available that we couldn't get before because many "Traditional "art companies don't ship to us and the exchange rate just kills us.
Those purchases are not harming the industry. You can't buy from the source.
I love the focus on using things you have! Idea: it would be fun to see if you did a supplies swap with an art friend where you choose the supplies for your friend and vise versa and you both create something from those supplies (on camera, of course :)).

I started collecting rubber stamps when I was 15, started going to the Original RSC from the beginning ('80s), and I'm now 60! I was even going to work at the L.A. Stampa Barbara store for a quick minute. Therefore, I've seen SO MANY changes over the years! I really wish companies would revert back to quarterly releases verses the current monthly releases. Consequently, I get burnt out on company & creator videos rather frequently and need to take breaks. :(
As for book recommendations, I enjoy Toni Anderson's Cold Justice series. They're mystery thrillers, but each book has a different set of characters, therefore they are stand-alone novels, but all are of a similar serial killer or stalker variety. I also really liked Isabella Maldonado's The Cipher, Carol Wyer's An Eye for an Eye, and Debra Webb's The Last Lie Told. Other author's in the genre that I like are Rebecca Zanetti and Lori Ryan, but these series are more mystery romance than more hard mysteries (I switch to these when the serial killer/stalker ones get too heavy after awhile). Similarly, I also like historical romance mysteries like Lynn Messina's Beatrice Hyde-Clare series and Sara Rosett's High Society Lady Detective series.
If you like a lighter, snarky vibe in your mysteries with a heavier side of romance, I highly recommend Darynda Jones' Sunshine Vicram's trilogy. I also adored Darynda's paranormal romance Charley Davidson series. This longer series (plus several short stories) has the same tone as the Sunshine Vicram trilogy, but are definitely more urban fantasy than true mystery-thriller. Similarly, but without the paranormal creatures, Cherie Priest does have the new & excellent The Booking Agents (Psychic Travel Agent & Seattle PD detective team up) series -- I believe this series might fall into the "cozy mystery" genre. Honestly, my taste has always been more urban fantasy than the more purist mystery genre, therefore if you decide you like this different type of mystery-thriller, I can give you loads of recommendations.

Lindsey you forgot where the crawdads sing! Lol this is close to my heart bc I heard of the book from you. And I got it ASAP bc anything you recommend I always love and that book was no different! It was one of the quickest I ever got through! In fact I was so obsessed and so upset when the book was over I googled the author to see if she had any other books and unfortunately nothing like it and then unfortunately for me I learned about a lot of like drama that the author was involved in with something completely different from her book but yeah where the crawdads saying you recommended it to me and I absolutely fell in love and I am so grateful for you to this day because of that!
That was a good book. Have you read The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls? Even better than where the crawdads sing but the dame vibe.
I just don’t have space for wooden stamps. I had tons of them before I moved and all but a very few sentiments and basic, basic shapes and designs went to a charity shop. I also got confident enough in my art skills that I realized I could do original work. I’ve even carved my own stamps, so my cards are 99% original, except for a stamped, commercial “Happy Birthday” or whatever the occasion is. I also learned enough techniques about the actual card designs (wiper cards, slider cards, and other fun folds), that even if the artwork isn’t perfect, they’re a lot of fun for the recipient, because they’re so weird! Also, Canva and Cricut have made it possible to make stuff digitally, including cards.

Happy Sat Chat. I stopped rubber stamping because of all of the other crafts out there that interested me more. I did light weight lifting for about a year before I could see total results. I also had a trainer and she said go slow and the results will come. Have a great weekend💕💕

Books - The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune (fantasy focusing on found family and being accepted for who you are) and Yellowface by R.F. Kuang (commentary on publishing industry and social media).
There are so many small reasons I’m not stamping as much anymore. The biggest is probably product churn. It’s exhausting and overwhelming to try to keep up when companies are constantly releasing new stuff. By the time you see something you like, place your order, receive the product and have a free day to use it, everyone has moved on to the “next best thing”. I constantly feel left out or left behind, even though a huge part of my desire to stamp is to be part of a community. I feel like the community is more about buying product these days than it is using product.
Excellent point! I felt that way back when I was trying to get published in scrapbooking magazines. By the time I got, used, and submitted the project, the product was discontinued!

I like red rubber stamps, but the sets are becoming expensive. I noticed craft stores have reduced their selection of rubber stamps on wooden blocks, my favorites.
Joanne and Hobby Lobby have reduced Ranger and Tim Holtz craft line. I can buy online, but not a fan of paying for shipping.

When a stencil is over $5-$6 or very thin Mylar. I don’t buy them.
Beware of Temu. They rip off artists merch, prices have increased and the quality is so so.
I stopped going to Stampfest events. It was fun to try new products before I buy, but they stopped the make & takes. There are less vendors at the shows.
Stampers Anonymous was my favorite booth. It’s a joy when Tim Holtz or Diane Reavely are demonstrating new products.
Crafting is a lost hobby. Sad day.
A great book from your neck of the woods: “I Took To The Woods” by Louise Dickinson is an autobiography of her life as a city dweller from Massachusetts marrying a country man from Maine and moving into a remote part of Maine and her life living in a cabin, having a family, and being an author. Fascinating and entertaining… life during the 1920s through 1950s. Right in your backyard! One of my all time favorites. P.S. I really like your hairstyle and make up. You look like you would have fit into the 1940s. You have that classy look!

Hi Lindsay, keep up weight lifting. You may not feeling thing or see anything but it helps your bones. When you have muscles your bones are healthy. You’re in the same category as me, Asian or Caucasian in getting osteoporosis. I don’t want to be taking those meds for osteoporosis which has side effects. Remember to eat daily products to get your Calcium. Stampendous was sold to Spellbinders. I think Fran retired. Yesterday I went I bought a bunch of stuff from Impression obsession. I'm with you Lindsay on stamping. I'm from the old school and love my wooden stamps and the results they produce. I feel I'm cheating if I go in any other direction like using a Cricut. I started out with just a cute clown stamp and some balloon stickers for Birthday cards and slowly evolved my collection from there. I bought only stamps that served a purpose in adding whimsey to my correspondence. So sad to be losing Impression Obsession. They had the greatest products.
I have purchased some equipment and supplies but most of what i have was given to me by a dear friend who purchases lots from estates and thrift stores, goes through and takes what she and family can use, passing the rest on to me. V
I have red rubber and clear stamps, ink pads, dies, small bits of many printed papers, and more from these gifts.
If you have something you cannot use, please pass it on to someone who can. It's how I'm able to gift others with my cards. Blessings!

Craftstash has been my go to for shopping this year, I love it but.... it is beginning to feel like fast fashion.
I recently bought a designers release bundle. It was approximately 66% off. The original release was so recent that American customers hadn't received theirs yet who bought it at full price. There was a full price set of dies that I LOVED. 2 weeks after their release they were 50% off. Maybe a month later they were cheaper. I bought at the 50% off. I have mixed and weird thoughts. They work with new designers who are INCREDIBLY excited to have their own releases. I love several of the styles, sale prices, and I've been happy with the quality. I also don't like the constant churning out of products. I know that is the current model for a lot of businesses.
When I checked this morning, my bundle was back up to full price.

I just tried searching for rubber stamps recently, but they were all so expensive; now I know why that might be. As for a great thriller suggestion, I love legal thrillers. Robert Bailey has a McMurtrie and Drake series that I read years ago. I fell in love with those characters and storylines. I lifted weights for many years, so much that I was offered to compete in a weight-lifting contest for women. Makes me laugh now that I'm old and my giddy-up has gone to--somewhere.

I read anything by Greg Iles, Linda Castillo, or Karin Slaughter. All 3 write suspense in different ways. Lincoln Childs writes good sci-fi, much like Michael Creighton’s books. Also, the author of Gone Girl has other books that were good. For fun the Jim Butcher books

I purchased a bunch or those large back round stamps at CHA in Anaheim 2009 the layering was amazing. Haha I’ll have to watch your video I always was stumped once I get my stamps home. Nice to know you made a video.

Kitchen sink stamps went out of business too. They did the photo realistic type layering stamps. I think there was a bit of a boom from the start of the pandemic but as things started to normalize etc, ppl don't have the time anymore. Sorry to see another long loved company going out of business. I know I've slowed my craft spending way down cause I haven't the room for more stuff. Now every time I see something I think where would I put it 😆 and I don't do enough with the stuff I have. Feel like I spend most of my time watching others create while avoiding the mess that is my craft room 😆

If you like Sci Fi and are willing to start a series, I think The Expanse series was some of the best writing I've encountered (in the SF/fantasy realm) since Tolkien. I've reread some of the books multiple times and always stop to read passages out loud to my husband. I'm currently reading Wheel of Time and liking it better than I expected (it's a bit slow but I've got time so I don't mind). I also enjoy the Harry Dresden series. It sits in a variety of genres: noir detective, fantasy, a bit of horror now and then. It has its critics but I own all the books and I, my husband, and my (adult) son have enjoyed them. Of those 3 suggestions, The Expanse is head and shoulders above the other two. (I also enjoyed the Amazon series.)

Here in Australia, craft products are insanely expensive as there is so much freight included or added. I shopped Temu twice, their marketing drives me insane. I also found that a stamp set I purchased from them is counterfeit of Stampin' Up, so that finished me with Temu. I only purchase stamps which will work for scrapbooking, my cardmaking foray was short lived but scrapping is neverending with so many photos coming from family. I made my own stamping platform, it works well. The products which are pushed by companies is unbelievable, who can keep up with purchasing everything so I am of the mindset of reuse and recycle, This includes clothes! Love your channel.
I really liked your statement ,once you buy just commit, if a car or house stop looking at cars and houses. That is so true. I quit being a SU demo for the exact reasons you've mentioned. I had down graded to a hobbyist because I wasn't really into sales and asking others to spend their money. I never pressured anyone and would even teach and show cheaper alternatives but over the years had accumulated way too much. I spent the last 7 months destaching and couldn't sell any of it because the market is so saturated and even had a hard time giving most of it away. I use my favorite stamps and few dies in mixed media now. Art Journaling and watercoloring. I still make cards but they are collage, I too had to change up my style to feel creative and not commercial. My stamp pads and reinkers sound like a duplicate set of yours . I even see so much art done with AI design and digital prints which I don't use. I just love to sit at my art table and just pull out some things and see what I can make from it. I been sketching more and trying to create my own original art as I have been a copier for so long. I hit the like for your channel and comment whenever I can to keep your algorithm alive and happy but I really don't like unboxing as I have been sticking to my no buy. I can't always watch your live painting sessions but I do watch them usually later in the day or when I have uninterrupted time to view and learn. KEEP DOING WHAT YOUR HEART TELLS YOU TO DO. I think that with every craft there is naturally an evolution to improve both the tools, techniques and materials, Card making is not exception, not that the old or new is better, it just more options for the artist to choose from to create. You must have been exceptional because even with a stamp positioner, foil machine and press plates my cards would never be mistaken for machine made. I use them all because they make the process more enjoyable and even more challenging to me I think whatever the craft or the tools available the art comes from how they are used together. It is so funny that even using the same card set, ten people come up with ten wildly different cards. It happens all the time. Yes it is heartbreaking to see these companies close but we should celebrate not criticize when other companies develop new innovative tools, materials and supplies for us to choose from.

Books suggestions: If you can find them, I think you'd really enjoy The Stainless Steel Rat series of sci-fi books by Harry Harrison. The SSR is a very clever conman who gets into (and mostly out of) all sorts of situations. Start with the first one if you can, The Stainless Steel Rat, and know there is a three-books-in-one volume of the first three stories that shows up pretty regularly in libraries and used bookstores.

So recently rubber stamps were every where. Rubberstampmadness was a huge magazine. Then, poof! Gone. Maybe the expense did it in.

Read anything by Diana Gabaldon! Outlander series is outstanding, came out years ago but I’m about to reread it.
Its sad about the knock offs really, if the companies go out of business then the knock offs will dry out in a few years too, without anyone realizing why. Well the ones who were pulling the weight, stopped doing it 😢

Great sat chat! I am with you in that I don't like perfect stamping, I am much more of a mixed media or watercolor card maker now. I love the red rubber stamps and the imperfections. Sad to see companies go however I have cut down on purchases because I have so much it can be overwhelming. Now I am more focused on finding what is in my stash that I can use rather than buying a new set.
Same here, I am not replacing my older stuff because it's better quality usually and the same ideas keep cycling around. The industry needs new blood to survive.
I hear you about the churn, it's so much now, too much product too fast all the time. I wait for sales for the most part, there is very few things I buy full price in any area of my life 😂
I have not gone to temu, I do buy from ali but I know a couple of sellers that have their own designers and thats where I buy from. I admit I snapped up products early (low fixed income, not a good excuse I know) on before I knew the deal and then it was a habit I had to break, the quality really isn't there and now I know better so I do better.
Instead I buy 2nd hand stuff I like or shop sales. Try to curb the want monster some, sleep on it instead of jumping on it. I often forget to go back and take it as the universes way of saying u didnt need it 😂
I dont see the way companies do business these days as sustainable, just throwing more product at people eventually gives them burnout and guilt because theres not enough hours to use it all.
All this to say I think hard on what I buy, try to fill gaps in my inventory and not buy everything as soon as I first see it. Sorry for the long winded post 😂

I've done that, it's fun. A different look but fun. I have more than a lifetime of stars so I'm not worried for myself. I have lots of variety.
We have an art gallery selling our own paintings and photos in New Zealand, 20 years this year and we are looking at closing the door. Since COVID everything has skyrocketed in price our framing supplies are up 65% we were informed yesterday shipping is going from $60 to $270 for our long molding packages. The customers have dropped off significantly yet we’re told frequently it the best gallery they have seen. Times are changing sadly, we are selling up and going on the road in a bus!

I used to buy stampendous stamps all the time. Had no idea that they went out of business. Wow. They were so affordable. Those cheap knock offs and counterfeits suck. The quality of those stamps is terrible. I did buy a couple off of Amazon, thinking nothing of it simply liked the design, but when I received them, I realized that the quality was terrible. You don’t get a clear stamp image or the stamp itself is somehow damaged and so you get part of the image and the other image you have to press a little harder so again goes back to quality. It’s terrible so people should not be spending their money on knock, offs, and counterfeits.
Very interesting points about the crafting world. I love collage stamping. And I love just inking up a stamp and putting it on cardstock. I do have a lot of dies and embossing folders but use them mainly as an additive to the stamping. I don't really like die-cut heavy designs. As for reading, I mostly read thrillers and crime fiction. You said you like things with a twist. I just discovered an author I hadn't read before. Candice Fox. The first book I read was Devil's Kitchen. I'm just starting another one, Redemption Point.

Stampendous has closed?!? I love their stamps, especially the gnomes. Gutted! Darkroom Door are closing too as the owner sadly passed away. Darkroom Door was my favourite brand.

I totally understand what you mean about the intuitive process and serendipity moments. That's how I like to work too. I'm not a huge fan of everything being "perfect". Especially with the technology now (which I appreciate), but it's nice to have that handmade vibe!
