- I organized my disgustingly messy, cluttery art studio in three days, and here's what happened!
My studio has been accumulating so much stuff over the last couple months, and I've been making piles everywhere... and then doing nothing with it. This is not your polished up aesthetic cleaning video. This is the real honest truth. I hope that, by seeing my mess, you can feel motivated to tackle any messes in your own home! I also hope you just enjoy getting a peek around my studio, seeing my art supplies, and getting a look at the behind-the-scenes stuff!

I have received an overwhelming amount of emails,messages, and comments about the markers (and other supplies) I was getting rid of in this video. For my own privacy, everything in my donate pile was donated before I ever posted this video. I am not seeking a place to send this stuff to, and I am very happy with where it went. This was just supposed to be a motivational organizing video.
That makes sense. When I downsize art/craft supplies, I often gift them to friends. I could donate them to one of the schools but…I also have anxiety so would need the courage to go there and talk to the admins.

I really appreciate that you don't push overconsumption : you resell or give away things you don't use and you make do with the containers you already have, instead of buying brand new containers and a brand new shelf to display all of the extra things you don't need.
That's how we know you're an artist that makes video, and not an influencer that makes art.

Honestly, it's kinda funny watching someone else have the same organization method. 😆Pull everything out, sort into piles, figure out where to put everything. 👏Yep. The methods. I love watching people organize, it makes me feel productive and makes me want to organize, but half the time I watch them do it and then I'm like: "NAh, I'm good!" 😆

That's totally my way, too. However, the last time, i decided to pay attention to what I do most often and my process, and I organized it according to my order of work and then used carts for secondary needs so i can pull it up close when i want it. Love watching these.
You know a lot of really creative people have messy art areas. As a long as you know where your supplies are, I don’t think it matters about keeping it 100% clean. Maybe you could edit or even create your works in another room if it is too messy. I know it will be a hassle to move your supplies but you wouldn’t have to be stressed about others seeing the mess. When my husband used to teach, his desk looked like a hot mess. He said it was organized chaos and to please not bother it because he knew EXACTLY where everything was, of which didn’t make any sense to me!!! Ha. But I’m so glad you had the time and energy to do it!!! You will feel sooo much better because you accomplished this HUGE ( and exhausting) task!!! Great video!! 💕💕💕💕
All the "let me know if you wanna see me do A, B, C... etc." I'm here for it all :) Also, I clean this way, too, so I find it very relatable and comforting ❤

It was so nice to hear you talk about using what you already had to organise your space. I just finished cleaning, tidying and reorganizing my studio space this weekend and I could not afford to buy any containers, baskets, etc. to organise things. I collected boxes from bulk buy items and discarded boxes from in the bulk buy store and made my own organizers. Then I labeled all the boxes so I can find everything easily. So it was really nice to see you make do and reuse stuff.
Also, when you pulled out the box of mushrooms I got so excited for another mushroom painting video. So yes please.
Wow! This is so timely! My studio is a MESS! I had to remove about 60 % of my stuff because of a water leak and mold removal. To say my stuff is scattered and stacked is an understatement. I am also getting rid of a lot of things I no longer use or want to use. It’s a huge undertaking and you really kept this real…so helpful. In the middle of it all I got a commission for a 24x48 inch oil painting…..6 months later, I’m ready to tackle the job again! Thanks for your input👍👍🥰🤗

Ma'am! First...how long have I been sitting here watching UA-cam? How are those grown little people your babies?!? You were literally just pregnant lol. Second...if you thought that was messy, please don't look at my studio 😂😂😂. I know we shouldn't compare ourselves to other people, but dang 😂 Fine! The chaos and clutter in my art room is out of control. To keep the organizing process less daunting, I'll use the baby steps method and start with one small area and work my way around the room. Seeing even small improvements helps keep the motivation going.
Yes, please test those older supplies and paint some more wooden mushrooms! BTW, I've found out the hard way that markers do dry up in a short amount of time so use them up!
Aw, "sweeping"--so cute! Yay for organization! I've been doing a ton of cleaning the past two days because the other night there was a real, live MOUSE in my bedroom. (It was adorable.) I literally gasped so loud, lol. It was especially surprising because we live in town, I'm on the second floor, and we rarely have problems with them. So yesterday my sister helped me clean my closet (right by the sighting), aiming especially to get everything possible off the floor. There was a considerable amount of decluttering, though, since she's the household queen of decluttering. Back in the corner by my homemade wrapping paper holder made out of pringles tubes, we found a few mini reese's cups and cough drops that had fallen and were nibbled. Another was under the little chest that's right next to the closet. We vacuumed really well, and I very reluctantly put a glue trap in the closet.
Today I was feeling blah with that time of the month coming, but still wanted to work on the overall project on my second day off, so I tacked my "treasure chest" (a big wooden chest my dad made me when I was a kid). Lots of papers--memories and notes from people--in there, so more mental than physical work. All those little decisions are very tiring--I sympathized with you feeling overwhelmed or wanting to just abandon the project, but you can't 'cause you're surrounded.
Anyway, this evening I was putting away some things in a new miscellaneous box in my closet (thanks for the new space, decluttering), and gasped again when I saw the glue trap occupied! 😱😢 I felt so bad for the thing. I was going to ask my dad to make one of those 5-gallon bucket humane traps tomorrow (he was out of town the past couple of days). My sister and I opted to wake up my dad so he could a) deal with it and b) put it out of its misery. I didn't want it to suffer. 😟
It looks so good, I love how I feel after I tidy and clean my creative space
I'm glad I'm not the only one that literally takes everything out; deep cleans and than reorganize! I got this cleaning "hack" from my dad 😆 I'm currently doing the same with my art studio

I love watching peoples studios. I thought of starting a you tube channel about all the creative things I do but my studios is not organized, its kinda looks like it is organized but I stuff everything in boxes or whatever so it just looks organized. Love that cabinet. wish I could find something like that... you make me want to go organize, happy organizing😉 🙂

Oof, my art room has become an absolute disaster area. The combination of serious art block and depression has let it fall into pitiful shape. I barely even go in there any more. I know if I cleaned and organized it, it might encourage me to start going back in there, but it's one of those situations where I don't even know where to begin. Colored pencils, pens, pencils everywhere. Random pads and sketchbooks and painting supplies. Stacks of half-finished drawings all over the place. Yeesh. Maybe I'll try to tackle it this weekend.

Girl, at least you have a dedicated art room/studio. I still live with my parents and much of my art supplies are in my bedroom, along with a lot of my doll and plushie collection, etc. My room is also on the small side.
The other parts of my collections are in our storage/guest room (fka my brother’s room).
I recently cleaned up most of my room (still have some stuff to go through but the floor is looking better at least. I do relate to getting bored and overwhelmed when cleaning my room. It’s like I get one spot clean and then another spot is worse 😭.
Also, I have the Artist pouch! I need to label all my fabric pencil pouches with what’s in them.
Also, I recently tossed the paints that came in the ME set because the caps cracked and started to separate, and I have no idea why. Maybe I’ll put some other tube paints in the pouch.
Hey I just had a really great idea- why don’t you get one of those portable room dividers to help hide your mess when you don’t have time to clean. I think you could go to an office supply company and get one that is soft to the touch so that you could hang projects on it temporarily. You could store it in your closet or to the side and just take it out whenever the mess makes you too stressed. And if you end up not using it in your studio too much, I’m sure it could be used in other rooms or sold on Facebook marketplace. Hope this helps your dilemma!!! 💕💕💕💕

Watching you organize is so calming. But I have to admit while talking about your blue chair/couch I look to my left and my chair is full of sketchbooks, sticker and gouache paint. Universal catch all. Time for me to organize too.

I just finished doing this to my craft/art area. I ended up buying Kallax cube units and replacing old cabinets with them It is a wonderful feeling to have cleaned the old out and organize it all. Good job Mira.

Hi Mira, be careful when getting rid of paint, pens or pencils I have had to do it a few times.. I have had to literally chop up some old pens so the don't get pick out at the dump to be re sold. I then a few months later the paint my sister got my from a charity shop, they made a mess absolutely every where when I used them. So chucked them too, but I left the lids on as 2 had small amounts in or none, many dropped in the bin in the kitchen & the rest scattered into the dust bin outside. I have recently done it again with some Paint Markers too, scattered in the 2 bins. It was a case of they wouldn't keep the paint flowing , They were fine when I started, but they went Crap. The White Paint pen stopped altogether & the Brown went a funny shade , the entire tip came out of one & the rest as there was only 12 stopped or made a mess, when getting the paint out. I have a New Set of Markers of what I was let to believe were Touch & the one I used was genuine. But they are Not , they are okay & I have lost only one pen. I left them on my Table in my bedroom in the sunshine & when I took off the lid, my T-shirt, Trousers & the table side covered in the marker pen, I got a blue thumb & Blue socks. I managed to clean up but it took me 40 mins to do so. Thanks 👍

I love a clean studio if is messy is hard to be creative when things are out of order as just see all that needs to be in its place 😄💖 is good to know other like to organize and some times ya things just get out of place . My stdio is small though so I have to keep on top of it .
I think it is normal for an art studio to be a little chaotic, especially when you have both personal projects and also video ones going at once. You need to pivot a lot from one medium to the next and the surfaces also change constantly. It is definitely nice when it is cleaned up and organised. I wouldn't want to show anyone my space, because I have definitely had to be creative and play a little Tetris with my things to store them away.
Mine is WAY worse and I need to clean it today. Thanks for the inspiration though!

I have a few brushes that are only for watercolor. Princeton has good brushes that are adaptable for all media though, so I tend to splurge on those and use them for everything. The Princeton select line is the most affordable and those and Princeton Dakota are my favorite! They perform great, last a long time if you care for them, and work with many different types of paint! If you want a cheaper alternative, MyArtScape has excellent brushes. I haven’t seen their brushes in a LONG time though, so not sure if the company still exists. Arteza also has good brushes for a fraction of the price! There’s another brand with unicorn looking handles that is also good, but the name is escaping me. Anyway, I hope that info helps!! I’m not very picky so I try to keep it as universal as possible! I am pickier with keeping watercolor brushes solely for watercolor because they tend to be more delicate though.

Were those markers alcohol markers? FB may have thought you were selling actual alcohol (possibly surreptitiously) and the AI flagged it incorrectly. I do love a good organizational video! Nice job! You could prolly add a "gently used art supplies" section to your website listings btw. Or look at donating to a HS program that needs supplies.

was just talking about putting a free little library by a school so they can put books in it....this makes me want to make a free little library but for art supplies because i also have art supplies i dont really use but they are still good.
