I conducted similar experiments with various powders and loads, with similar results. I determined that as Paul Harrell would say there was “not enough difference to make a difference. Currently I’m shooting mostly small primer rounds because I have more small primers on hand than large.
This answered the questions I had about Sm Vs Lg pistol primers I didn't even know this was a thing. Seems like it has more to do with if you're reloading than anything else. The performance seems close enough that it wouldn't matter for target shooting. Thanks for putting this out, have a good one.
anyone want to know why he got slightly higher velocity with SPP brass? its because SPP brass has slightly less case capacity than the LPP brass there by raising pressure. the SPP brass has a thicker web than LPP brass. we ,45 GAP shooters use it to make GAP brass because its the strongest ACP brass. LPP brass risks a blow out at GAP pressures.
i did a video a little while back using freedom munitions 45 acp with both small and large. I noticed sound difference but no use difference but don't have a chronograph. excellent video as always
As someone commented, having both, separated of course, would be a good idea, in case you run out of a different size primer? I know bench-rest rifle shooters us SRP brass for longer brass life with primer pocket blow-out. Maybe that was the thinking with pistol brass manufacturers? I had this test on my list of things to do, if I was still making videos.
has anyone figured out a way to mark them so can keep separated before trying to reload? I thought maybe soaking the SPP in brass black but not sure if that would work or be permanent enough, also thought of intentionally soaking SPP in acidic wash to get that pink brass look?
I keep a good supply of both SP and LP primed 45 ACP cases on hand. I only take one type of case out when I go shooting, so it's easy to keep them separated. I can't tell enough difference between the two to make that much of a diferance.
@@jesseboutdoors It's definitely a good idea to have options when available, with the cost and availability of primers and other reloading components these days.

Yep I’ve changed my mind and now don’t mind having some with spp.
I recently sorted my 45 brass and found I have a lot more large primer brass than small. Now I need to buy some large primers
From what I see in small primers in 45 and 10mm most of them are federal and blazer brass.

Good to know. They are running a sale on their small primer 45acp. Thanks for the info
Jesse. Good video. Thanks for sharing that information. It's good that it did not seem to make much of a difference. Thanks again and take care.

Great Test Jesse

If you can what brass case catcher is that? Where can I purchase one? That's exactly what I'd been looking for.
It’s a graco I got on Amazon. If you click on my Amazon store link in the comments or description you’ll find it on there. Thanks for watching.
Not enough difference to matter especially if you're on the receiving end. Standard deviation was good on both. Good job. 👍
Nothing big I can see. Thanks for watching 👍🇺🇸

I don’t think the acidic approach is good. That would be changing the molecular structure of the brass.
@@jesseboutdoors yes I've heard it leaches the tin out of the alloy which can't be good
Thank brother, great work!
Thanks!
Good job Jess

I don't shoot that much 45 anymore , that's why I love spp brass , saves me time to changing primer system on my dilon 650.

I definitely need some more spp ones. I only have about 50 of them. It would be handy now to have both.
