It's been stated how good Brian is on guitar, but I'm super impressed how accurately and quickly he detunes his bass string and then brings it back into tune. I don't see a pedalboard or tuner, so I really think he's doing it freehand. Amazing.
The antics of the trumpet section are legend. They do some pretty elaborate stuff at times. You almost want to watch them more, when they are not playing.
No pharmaceutical product could ever equal the rush you get when the band hits that groove; the people are dancin', and shoutin', and swayin'; and the house is rockin'! -Elwood Blues
Interesting thing about Setser, he was instrumental in bringing rockabilly back into the limelight in the 80s with his band, the stray cats, and then about 10 years later, he did exactly the same thing with swing jazz with Brian Setzer Orchestra and several other acts. He can do just as entertaining a version of this song with a stripped down three-piece rockabilly band with just a double bass, and a snare drum and you’ll have just as much fun. Check out the stray cats if you like this as well it’s not nearly as complex, but I think you’ll enjoy it.
Saw him and the great big band in ‘02 at Universal in LA for the Xmas show…WOWOWOWOWOWOW! ‘Course, I’m a brass guy and love all rock n roll, so I was just *crawling* on the floor. Somebody mentioned the Nutcracker? It’ll crack your nuts for f*cking sure!
Before orchestra, Brian Seltzer had another band called Stray Cats. I believe around the holidays, Brian and his orchestra usually on tours Brian did a cameo as another famous guitarist, Eddie Cochran in a biopic - La Bamba starring Lou Diamond Phillips as Ritchie Valens.
Actually Ronnie Weisser brought Rockabilly back big time in the mid-70's about 4 years before The Stray Cats hit big time. He is a record producer (Rollin' Rock record label) and brought back Ray Campi, Mac Curtis, The Original Comets and others to UK & Europe for Rockabilly revival shows, but us Rocket and Teddy Boys know that Rock and Roll will never die. It has been going on non -stop in UK and much of Europe since 1955 right through to the present day. But I put Brian Setzer up there as Top rockabilly guitar player, I'm glad he is still going and the Cats are doing a 45th Anniversary tour, keep Rocking Mr Setzer. You have 20 years ahead of you yet to blast out more tunes
Just to add to Brians guitar skills. At 5.06 in this clip he changes the tuning on the guitar do "dropped D" and at 6.48 he tunes it back to normal! Have never seen that before!
Can't go wrong with the BSO. I've seen them 3 times so far, and they always bring that perfect blend of top-level musicianship and exciting showmanship. Check out the live version of Jumpin' East of Java, for a guitar/trumpet duel..
One of my fondest memories as a 6yr old child in 1981 has to do with with The Stray Cats. I will never forget riding in the backseat of my grandma's Plymouth Reliant K-Car listening to my BRAND NEW cassette tape of a band called April Wine "The Nature of the Beast" album. My 16yr old uncle was in the front passenger seat listening to this debut album of a band NO ONE heard of unless you were in the know. He turned his head around towards the backseat and simply said " I'll trade you this tape for that April Wine tape cause you gotta listen to this" I said ok .. popped it in my tape deck .. and was blown away. The rest is history.
Setzer broke out with his band The Stray Cats, doing rockabilly in the 80s, which wasn't all that popular at the time (the height of "New Wave"), and basically started a rockabilly revival. Then when the Swing revival started in the late 1990s, he put together the Big Band you see here and started doing Louis Prima-style swing, but he still kept his rockabilly roots and played some of his older hits, and it became the swing/rockabilly fusion you hear here.
I saw the Stray Cats in 1984 at an outdoor concert outside Minneapolis. Also playing sets, George Thurogood and the Destroyers, The Gogo's, and several others I forgot. Epic 80s experience!
You guys missed out on something totally weird, crazy and fun having this music pop out of nowhere around 1995. It was such a blast to go these shows and dance all night. The men wore suits and the women wore beautiful dresses and we swung all night long. I met my doing this and we're on year 25.
I grew up listening to Brian Setzer in Stray cats... Was allways a mixed tape with many Stray cats songs in the stereo of my first car... I've seen him live twice. So much memories! Love this!
I got to see BSO on The Dirty Boogie tour. One of the best concerts i've ever been to. Had a blast from start to finish. Killer musicians who are also entertaining.
By far the best reaction to the Brian Setzer Orchestra I’ve seen. So much enthusiasm and bopping to the music. This is one of my favorite rock and roll bands I even have all their Christmas albums which are all bangers.
Setzer always said that he and his dad would listen to albums of big bands when he was a kid. They were always fronted by guys playing trumpet, trombone, or clarinet but never a guitar. The BSO album Guitarslinger which came out just before they got huge with Jump Jive and Wail is one of my all time faves.
Brian Setzer is my third favorite guitarist of all time, and is no one to be trifled with. Edit: If you want a good cover from Brian Setzer Orchestra, to start with "This Cat's on a Hot Tin Roof."
Wow 🤩 Absolutely Incredible! What a treat you guys! 😎. I remember the Stray Cats videos on MTV back in the 80’s. I didn’t know about this though… I want to see the whole show now! Thx 😊
Great reaction guys! Really enjoyed it. I got turned onto BSO in 1997. The rockabilly big-band energy was a huge contrast to the music I was into at the time (Industrial Metal like Rammstein, and Ministry and Thrash Metal like Sepultura and Testament), but the music clicked for me somehow and suddenly I found myself going to shows headlined by bands like "Big Bad Voodoo Daddy", "Royal Crown Revue" and "Lee Press-On and the Nails". They melded the classiness of big-band swing with the energy and attitude of punk rock, which you KNOW I loved! :) Some really great shows, man.
pleaaaase do more of brian setzer. i think you’d love “i won’t stand in your way” and a cover song “sleepwalk” which is an instrumental but still great
If you like this type of 50's music...Try Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, link wray, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Squirl Nut Zippers, Kim Lenz and the Jaguars, Nick Curran and the Nightlifes, etc
Since the 80s Brian is said to be the best Rockabilly guitarist.
Proof you don't need 36 scantily clad dancers gyrating behind a singer to put on a great show. Just talent and good music.
Setzer is a very underrated guitar player. He’s a monster
It's been stated how good Brian is on guitar, but I'm super impressed how accurately and quickly he detunes his bass string and then brings it back into tune. I don't see a pedalboard or tuner, so I really think he's doing it freehand. Amazing.
One of the best rockabilly guys ever, love his band "The Stray Cats" ...
The basis of Setzer’s music is Rockabilly……..Watch their version of “Jump Jive & Wail!”
The stray cats are great. Their song “Stray Cat Strut” Is great, and the original video is just as much fun to watch.
When you hear about greatest guitarists, idk why you don’t see Brian high on the list. He’s so underrated. He and SRV are my favorites.
The antics of the trumpet section are legend. They do some pretty elaborate stuff at times. You almost want to watch them more, when they are not playing.

When you can rile up a crowd in Japan like that, you're doing REAL good.

I really like that movie and of course I knew it was Brian and it was just so cool..
Brian is a great if not underappreciated guitarist. He brought rockabilly back. Then he stuck with it.
He brought back Rockabilly and THEN decided to bring back Big Band and then put a rockabilly twist on it.

I saw them with his orchestra at a local venue...and..geeez..what a show!
I saw them live in the mid-90s at The House of Blues in New Orleans. One of my favorite performances ever!
There is no music that is just more fun than rockabilly! Get out there and swing dance your heart out.
You guys should get the DVD. When you get it have a party that just won't stop.

His performance from Woodstock 1999 is quite epic! worth a look.
Glad you seen this video live.

Love the reaction!! I love The Brian Setzer Orchestra and would love for you guys to react to more of their songs
Rockabilly is always fun. They were unique in the 80s as the Stray Cats
I saw the Stray Cats in 1984 at an outdoor concert outside Minneapolis. Also playing sets, George Thurogood and the Destroyers, The Gogo's, and several others I forgot. Epic 80s experience!

I've seen them in concert. So much fun!!!
Brian, is a fantastic guitarist.
I grew up listening to Brian Setzer in Stray cats... Was allways a mixed tape with many Stray cats songs in the stereo of my first car... I've seen him live twice. So much memories! Love this!
Travis and Suzy, it was such great fun watching you both geek-out over some of my personal favorite music. It was a blast!
I got to see BSO on The Dirty Boogie tour. One of the best concerts i've ever been to. Had a blast from start to finish. Killer musicians who are also entertaining.
Brian Setzer and the Stray Cats are on another level on the 50's music
Truly, an American original
By far the best reaction to the Brian Setzer Orchestra I’ve seen. So much enthusiasm and bopping to the music. This is one of my favorite rock and roll bands I even have all their Christmas albums which are all bangers.

The Eighties really rocked.
Check out the STRAY CATS : LIVE AT THE ROCKPALAST/LORELEY ....damn,their Best Live Concert ever in Germany!
That looks like the same type of guitar Jim uses in the Reverend Horton Heat.
The Brian Setzer Orchestra, what the Stray Cats wanted to be!
If you get the chance, check out the original version of rock this town b4 he got the band in
"Jump, Jive and Wail!"
These guys are just wild! Check out there Christmas shows or Don't Mess with Big Band Live..
Saw that show a few years ago. So good.
You should check our Postmodern Jukebox to find modern songs done in old styles.........excellent
I love BSO!
Brian Setzer is my third favorite guitarist of all time, and is no one to be trifled with.
Edit: If you want a good cover from Brian Setzer Orchestra, to start with "This Cat's on a Hot Tin Roof."
Love that song
If you dig 50’s style music, check out the Stray Cat’s “I Won’t Stand In Your Way Anymore”. Amazing stuff.
"A Rockin Good Time!"
Wow 🤩 Absolutely Incredible! What a treat you guys! 😎. I remember the Stray Cats videos on MTV back in the 80’s. I didn’t know about this though… I want to see the whole show now! Thx 😊
He also has a great Holiday concert. Have seen it, not sure he still does it? Also check out The Reverend Horton Heat for more Gretch guitar fun!
If you love 50's jams, watch Brian Setzers song "Jump Jive and Wail" It's incredible
Stray Cats had a few big hits in the 80s.
Great reaction guys! Really enjoyed it. I got turned onto BSO in 1997. Yes nothing like a slap bass. Even Elvis has a slap bass in his early work.
pleaaaase do more of brian setzer. i think you’d love “i won’t stand in your way” and a cover song “sleepwalk” which is an instrumental but still great

YOU LIKE 50AND 60S CHECK OUT BRIAN IN BAND THE STRAY CATS DOING THE 'STRAY CAT STRUT'
Just an FYI, that's an upright bass not a cello. lol
I was there🙂
If you like this type of 50's music...Try Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, link wray, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Squirl Nut Zippers, Kim Lenz and the Jaguars, Nick Curran and the Nightlifes, etc
5:55 'love 50'and 60's' no written in 1977
Stray Cat Strut!!
Oh Yeahhhh!!!
Younger modern bands take note...
When a band has a brass section this great it just hits different! Excellent. And this is why I feel like current music today is just plain mediocre.
If you get the chance, check stray cats runaway boys
Cello? That's a double bass! A flute isn't a oboe.
This is big band music. (Cellos?)
Can u please react to Fifth Angel. Wings of Destiny. U will ne impressed. Ty
That's not a cello. It's a double bass
