I think Riverdance is so popular because it builds off of universal rhythms that all humans share, no matter what culture or land we come from. We may not all have the same music, but there's an underlying beat and rhythm to everyones lives from the seasons, to the day, to our own heartbeat, and I think Riverdance captures some of that spirit. As an American from the Appalachians, I love to see the way my ancestors would have danced and how it is still kept alive in our music and dance here.
I Have watched all the versions of this particular dance and have come to the conclusion that this is the best version. All of them are very good but this in my opinion is the best.
I remember seeing Riverdance live at the Sony Center a few years ago. I was so close to the stage that I could actually see the metal on their dancing clogs. It was an awesome experience
That's what I thought when I first saw Breandán de Gallaí perform, but then I realized that he was just incredibly focused on doing the best he could during his performance, and he definitely passed the test for me. :)
I walked into a lounge in S.F. down on The Wharf to have a pint, it was an Irish Pub. The bartender was a woman with long, long hair the color of one beautiful red sunset. She was gorgeous and her accent was awesome and authentic.
Wonderful! Thank you so much for uploading. I saw this particular line-up of dancers in London, and it was fantastic. But I've also seen the show three other times, the latest this week in Southampton. The dancers are different, but still brilliant. I never tire of seeing this. It goes right through to my bones! Lol.
I've attended several live performances of Riverdance and viewed dozens of videos of its dance performances. Without question, this video presents the best production of Reel Around the Sun, my favorite number, which I was thrilled to see in person recently in San Diego. The Director of this number took advantage of the tension and suspense created by sharing the introduction music before the action begins. A great performance and a great video!
Wild Young it is actually. When the girls in my dance class do this dance everybody has to be quiet and we all look at them dancing so divinely !! I asked once my dance teacher why can’t we do any noise or say anything during this dance: he says it comes from an ancient legend but when I asked for more details he did not say anymore... Irish dancing seems easy but it is actually very hard and passed on in the family so it somehow has something sacred, religious, mysterious and ancient. I learn it and because of covid19 there is no classes so I have to practise alone and this is hard because no teacher to correct your mistakes and not enough UA-cam videos to learn a specific step or move... but even though I love it and I think this is one of my favourite kind of dance because of the multiple specificities !!! Hard but so fun !!! ❤️
I've been watching different versions of Riverdance for the past twenty years and these routines still give me goose bumps. The only thing that spoils it for me is the male lead part. Too much egotistical poncing and flouncy shirts. But then it was written by Flatley FOR Flatley, so I suppose it isn't surprising. Everybody else is fabulous. (And those legs... Jeez!)
He didn't say it was. The original choreography was Flatley's, and his ego is the size of Texas, so it makes sense that the ego shows in the male lead part, That's all he was referring to.
I agree. The only male lead I didn't find poncy and ridiculous was Colin Dunne in the 1996 New York version. Colin was still dancing the role when I saw the show live, and I really appreciated his understated style.
awe-inspiring! mesmerizing music hammering open one’s ego with every tap of their feet. immortal contribution from the Irish spirit & should be passed down from generation to generation.Though much criticized, this troupe deserves to be ranked with the legendary 1994-96 Riverdancers led by Flatley & Dunne. actually prefer de Gallaí's upper body movements - forceful swings like Spanish bullfighters & Chinese martial artists. music also played by the 12Girls band using oriental music instruments
I certainly will not argue on that because you are correct. It is a product which must be geared to its audience. I teach and see the evolving youth of today and see their ambivalence to anything outside theirdamned cell phones. It is handed down to them and each generation gets worse. I was referring to the willingness to discard the old and original in favor of the plastic and glitzy and be happy with it.
Cudowne. Mam ochotę dołaczyć się i wytańczyć cały swój zachwyt do zycia, do słońca. Tak do utraty tchu, zmeczyć sie i byc po prostu szczęśliwą Wonderful. I would like to join in and Dancing all his enthusiasm for life, to the sun. So out of breath, get tired and just be happy
My grandmother took my family when we were little--- so mindblowing then it seemed like magic, would love to see it again now knowing how much physical and emotional work it must take!
Taking my granddaughter to go see them.. she's upsessed with dancing around everywhere the iris jig.. She's only 6 but she does very well.. maybe that's her calling..😉. I enjoyed watching it.
I recently learned that this dance was based off of a pagan ritual worshiping Belinos, Irish god of the sun. It's cool to get a little glimpse at what the druids did in ancient Ireland.
When there's a stage, there's a diva. I'm not letting one guy ruin the experience for me. Call me a philistine, but frankly, I like this 'modernized' version of the traditional style.

I remember seeing Riverdance live at the Sony Center a few years ago. I was so close to the stage that I could actually see the metal on their dancing clogs. It was an awesome experience
This show is worth any price o fthe ticket, it's so much more than what you see in this video, a spectacle from start to finish.
This truly brings out my Irish roots - and right before St. Patrick's Day - "Get the corned beef and cabbage ready" - Enjoy all - coachroche
These dresses & this dance are sooooo stunning & beautiful!
I love it the sound would move mountains would evil remove the devil himself, such powerful music here.
Reel Around The Sun is my favorite and the dancers are amazing. Can't wait for my trip to visit Ireland for the first time in May of 2018!

El logro más grande de la humanidad es el arte, sobre todo la música y la danza.
Son genios los irlandeses.

That's what I thought when I first saw Breandán de Gallaí perform, but then I realized that he was just incredibly focused on doing the best he could during his performance, and he definitely passed the test for me. :)
I haven't seen this performance in years, but now I remember why I was so obsessed with it when I was younger...
i can watch this video over and over again! it's so wunderful!!

There's something so ancient and magical about this dance.

Or as friend of mine called Flatley, Swishy McJackass.
This is not Flatley, it´s Breandán de Gallaí, one of the main choreographers.
He didn't say it was. The original choreography was Flatley's, and his ego is the size of Texas, so it makes sense that the ego shows in the male lead part, That's all he was referring to.

C'est ma chanson d'éducation musical
I agree.
I recently learned that this dance was based off of a pagan ritual worshiping Belinos, Irish god of the sun. It's cool to get a little glimpse at what the druids did in ancient Ireland.

Im sorry but Michael Flatley will always be the one i watch on riverdance

Dancer #8
When there's a stage, there's a diva. I'm not letting one guy ruin the experience for me. Call me a philistine, but frankly, I like this 'modernized' version of the traditional style.
I would like some one to teach me Irish dancing
rose mougeot moi aussi je l'écoute avec ma prof de musique
moi aussi t'est a quel collège moi je suis au collège andré albert a Saujon en Poitou Charente
@arkantos69
I agree. Michael Flatley was also so flashy, and loved his time in the limelight. The other leads are a heck of a lot more humble.
