Massive amount of respect to you. I just don't think I could do what you do in the UK or mainland Europe, the roads are just so difficult to navigate. Maybe the USA, don't know how difficult it would be to get a truck driving job there. If I were to just manage to pass my tests here, how hard would it be to translate that over to an American trucker licence?
Start on class 2 its a lot easier and its a way to get into the game if you want. Hiab work is just as well paid as class 1 if your working for the right firm a lot of the time anyway and more interesting
If you do work like I do, which is hauling frozen foods i deliver to the big warehouses so plenty of space to manoeuvre. Dont be put off go for it, not all driving jobs are shit.
@@pamnade Thank you, I've since my last post booked my theory tests, and have taken a couple lessons in a class 2 vehicle. Will eventually go for my Class 1 C+E (Hopefully)
Class 1. I think youd be better going straight for this while you can, save some money. I find it's easier work to on the artics. Most of ours we just back on a bay and wait to be tipped. Just aldi and lidl are self tip and you get an electric truck to do it. My nephew just ust went for class 1 didnt have to take class 2 first and is enjoying it. Hes on 40k for a Monday to Friday shift pattern. No long days either and home every night. I do 4 on 4 off and really fits my lifestyle.
To answer your question about trucking jobs in the US. It is easier to pass your test in the US. The standards are not as high as they are in the UK. The trucks as you know are longer so you have much more space in the cabin. The no 1 truck is kenworth and the roads are long and wide compared to the UK. Even if you drive in the cities you won't have to squeeze through parked cars. The country is massive you will rarely drive across the country which will take days. But you can still spend hours driving the equivalent of the UK in a region lol. Finally the salary is much higher compared to the UK. Unlike the UK where there is a universal salary for truck drivers, in America it is different. Salary varies from state to state as each employer sets theirs. It is not uncommon to earn anywhere from $70k to $100k. If only drivers in the UK earned similar
Very interesting as a mere car driver. - Do you carry a small bike or something so you can go off on a jolly when parked up? You must park on and get bored off your nut at night?

@John it's the same with coach driving (I'm a coach driver) you have 15 hours max working a day with 45 hours off a week. So the VOSA get really arsey if they can't see a 10-15 min "other work" section at the start of your working day on your tacho. But a walk round counts as working. Not 4.5hrs drive time.

Although they can be a real pain in the arse and seem to be trying to cause you unnecessary grief sometimes, I really do think they're a necessary evil - what some of the cowboy firms out there would do if they thought they could get away with it doesn't bear thinking about, the roads would be far more dangerous without the threat of random inspections and prohibitions etc.

I have all my HGV provisionals now on my UK licence, done medicals etc haven't passed tests. No discredit to you or your videos whasoever, but it has put me off even bothering doing the tests.
What do you drive, if you don't mind me asking? and do you work day or night shifts, maybe a mixture? I was thinking of starting out on night shifts, to gain confidence when it's less busy
Still lack confidence, I see guys around our industrial estate swinging their artics around like it's nothing, amazes me.
If only drivers in the UK earned similar
be careful when throwing bits out of your window as even a cigarette end can lead you to a £60 fine thanks for the video
it was picket fluff i think lol
Very interesting as a mere car driver. - Do you carry a small bike or something so you can go off on a jolly when parked up? You must park on and get bored off your nut at night?
8:55 - Oooo that was close :D
that's normal for trucks every day
@@truckerjay Oh I know haha, it's that side of truck driving that would stress me out too much, enjoying the vids mate you've come a long way, keep it up. 👍
Do you think they aim for the older trucks Jay?
dont know its not that old lol
@@truckerjay never heard of Martyn getting stopped in the newer trucks he drives. Mind hope I haven’t jinxed him by saying that now lol
Absolutely…
Maybe get some 12v remote controlled lights for the cab? Great video jay :)
Good idea!
Good vid jay you parked next to my work when u set off at the beginning where the white bmw was parked to your right 😊
Oh cool!
@@truckerjay and I’m glad u didn’t turn left where that mercury van was because the rd is two till the end where it’s a no entry to the roundabout
Yes, Mate customer yards are tight.
Somehow this video showed up on my list. Glad I watched it just hit the like & suscribe. Looks like no matter what state or country Mr.officer is always there lol. Cool video hello from Chicago IL.
Thanks for sub dude, welcome
Did you get a Ticket for not having the correct Hooking points for the Ratchet Straps, I noticed you just hooked them on the side which is an offence, if done tight it will bend it and can slip off, my old company had to fit them or not use the Trailer,
lol you need to buy the new truckers handbook cos what you said is wrong. the hooks are for sheeting only
@@truckerjay I know what Hooks are for but the trailer should be fitted with proper Lashing points which pull up so you can put the Ratchet Hooks in, you'll find out if you get the right VOSA man as we did at the Checkpoint near the Humber Bridge, he also reported it to the Cambridgeshire Traffic commission who informed my company to give me a lecture as apparently I should have refused to use the Trailer without them fitted, + Pissed my compliance man off because they had to fit them unless not using Ratchets,
@@truckerjay there's a Video on UA-cam by Deady2012 "How to use Ratchet Straps & Tautliners", you might learn something, I don't need a Hand book thank you LOL, oh and my company ought to have a bit of an idea of the Law, been on the go over 90 years, 3 generations and Green on the VOSA traffic light system, You don't even get your Tautliner sheets tight,
@@truckerjay watch and youll see what i mean by the proper Hooks for the Ratchet Straps,
Whilst I disagree with the DVSA, over inspection reports, I aslo have to admit, that I once went on a Coach Trip from Edinburgh to Italy, we were pulled up at Carlisle, and had to wait two hours whilst the company came to change two dangerous tyres on the coach, I was mad at the delay of a 36 hour trip with this delay but on reflection it was right
Do the daily checks form part of the first 4.5hrs driving or are you allowed xx mins for a daily check?
4.5 hours of driving is literally just driving you can't walk about and drive at the same time.
@@truckerjay cheers.
Did you a get a certificate record of their inspection from them?
I did
It seems like trucking over there is alot slower paced than in the usa
Loving your channel buddy, keep up the good work. Wish I had your job😊
Glad you enjoy it!
Nice one jay dont think people think when they park how difficult it is for a an artic at times myself included .. im not a trucker but ive sign written plenty , great videos just started to watch be safe🏴🇬🇧
Thanks 👍
What satnav are you using?
Tomtom Professional (not the best)
@@truckerjay I just bought a motorhome and can't decide whether to go for the truck/van/bus version or the camping version.
I've been using TomTom satnavs for years and I think they're generally the best of the makes.
Wheel tappers and weight watches
I think you had a case of Red vehicle syndrome. Authorities are like bulls, they see Red and they must have a piece of it.
Another great vlog Jay 👍🏻
Did he check the load was strapped? I've never been stopped by them before and I just assumed they check absolutely everything when they pull you in lol Thanks for the video very interesting!
nope
Trouble is your driving an Old DAF , but good Video . I was onthe road driving Volvos
Plenty of other trucks 2017 on the road lol
Iv never been stopped by them, but one day I seen them pull in behind, sat there for 5min and then they pulled in front of me, I was sure I was getting stopped, but then they pulled in front of the truck that was in front of me, and pulled him in. I must admit not having ever been pulled, and even though I knew my truck and taco was in order I still changed my underwear after moment.😂😂. That was M5 sevices near M50. Right where that red container is that’s where we park to deliver to McDonald’s. And they shouldn’t be allowed to stop you there as it’s a delivery spot.
Another good video Jay. Going to order some of your merch soon.
cheers paul, im working on some new designs
Makes you think maybe they shouldn't be built there in the first place or only except smaller trucks!
Thank you Jay. Another video Enjoyed. DVSA After Brownie pints Still someone’s got to do it. Glad you was all O K With Them Thanks again. Take care and Stay safe and safe Trucking.
Thanks again!
I would not want to drive a truck over there
Did mr vosa check your straps mate. I’ve never been stopped
no strangely enough the sod lol
I've come across a lot of DVSA people, both on the ex-VOSA and ex-DSA side of things, fair to say you can spot the ones who used to be VOSA, they always seem to be the least agreeable ones....
Interesting content
I wonder why he held the cloggie in front of you much longer? Dare bet it was tacho related though!
whats that?
Great video Jay cheers for Doing these they really entertaining
Glad you like them not forgotten your shoutout

Very cheap on Ebay, I think around 6 - 12 quid ish.
I see motor carrier enforcement types are equally crabby on the other side of the pond.
Also in Australia dudes ... I think the A..Holes are born for the job.. I'm figuring they were never breast fed !

I'm getting angry watching you trying to have to manoeuvre your artic around a tiny street with stupid parking; especially as I'm almost certain the Industrial estate was there before the council allowed a housing estate to be built there to 'fight the housing shortage'/ more houses = more council tax. You did a great job. I remember in 1997 when I was 10; my uncle would do some agency work in the summer with TNT to top his wages up during his annual leave. This was the only time I could travel with him, I remember him telling me one of his reverse gears was 'fucked' in those words; I remember sleeping in the cab bed and getting up and going all over the country with him for 2 days a year between 96-97. Massive respect to you and all of you HGV drivers; finally you're getting the pay you deserve too!
Which services was it jay? It looked like exeter moto?. Ps got alot of time for drivers as i work in a warehouse yard tipping and directing driver's. Mosf are cool ..some arnt but most know the score you scratch my back and your get tipped quicker!🤣🤣most know me by name and always remember me as you try to have a laugh as it makes the day go easier..keep up.the intresting video's. 👍👍
Technically, you’re in the services. It’s not on DVSA land, therefore can’t enforce a private property malarkey
public place as you say, he can't do fxxk all about it
I've just passed my class 1 C+E with 5 minors 2 days ago!
congrats but how did you pass with 5?
He’s in YOUR cab!
I once got stopped by a brown shirt who didn’t like it that i told him he was a public servant and that I don’t consent to fines.I was polite to him but he gave me a 3 day prohibition for an inop headlamp bulb but he did it behind my back.My boss rang me to tell me the next day.I told my boss that i will take him to court for loss of earnings so he rang the dvsa brownshirt and must have told him because it was lifted within the hour. These morons are revenue collectors by consent only but think they have the utmost power.Trucks have to be safe but some are just brownshirt bullies.Anyone has the right to record for evidence. They can’t say their depot is private property because its not!!!!
Great video Jay keep up the great content mate
