Pulled By DVSA (VOSA) Overweight And Infringements.....
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 лют 2020
- In this weeks truck vlog we get stopped by DVSA for a random check and found to be overweight with some Tachograph infringements,. Then it's off to London with a walking floor trailer full of scrap metal.
This video is to highlight the vital role the DVSA play in keeping our roads safe. If it wasn't for this enforcement there wouldn't be fair competition in the haulage industry, drivers would be forced to work unregulated hours with poorly maintained trucks on our roads resulting in worse working conditions for us truck drivers.
It also goes to prove that if you are polite and professional, even with minor offences they are fair and objective as long as there is evidence you are doing your best to work within the law. This is my 3rd encounter with the DVSA and it has always been a positive and professional experience.

"No matter how clean you are, you feel nervous" A statement from an honest man
Absolutely mate, I've nothing to hide..... Well not from you lot anyway 😂
@Franku Doge Or even though I know mu old car is in excellent conditon and I trust the drivers of her (I can no longer drive on the public highway thanks to eyesight loss) I always get a tad nervous any time a police car is mentioned :)
@@KevTee What is a Tachograph?
@@thebluetriangle8700 a device fitted to the truck to measure driving time and breaks to ensure drivers are compliant with the law 👍
How many times I got stopped by the scalies in Aussie. Them and the cops are much of a muchness. Sometimes you get a fresh-out-of-the-academy arsehole with a point to prove, sometimes you get a squaddie with a bit more professionalism and life's wisdom. I treat them mostly all the same. Pulled in? Full stop at the stop sign and books out. There are only ever two things they're after. Logbook violations and weights. Anything else is a bonus😂. Threats I don't respond to, because if they're going to do you, they're going to do you, and your opinion doesn't make the square root of f**k all difference to them. Just keep a level head, a civil tongue in your head and measure your words. Worst case they ground you and you get a bit of shut-eye😂. That said, I nearly got arrested once in South Australia because I got profoundly pissed off with a bastard who dobbed me in for "drug driving" when I was only trying to let him past. There is no immunity from fuckwits.😂
Don’t know what sort of money you guys make but watching this you earn every penny
Seriously about the same as a Tesco employee who restocks the shelves. HGV drivers have to pay before they even star to work. Left the industry years ago.
Great to see a professional driver explaining some of the everyday challenges drivers face. Great skills, great attitude and thanks for explaining the issues to the wider public. The industry needs a PR specialist.
It was good to see everyone being civil, flexible, exercising common sense and just doing their jobs.
yes, but he still lost 2 hours, which he probably won't get paid. he has warnings about 1/2 minute late rest. +20kg overweight on which they almost wrote a fine. do you find it strange that western europe is now without drivers with all this bullshit on a hard working man
@@mygoodspirit8655 Didn’t “nearly” give him a fine whatsoever. No warnings about being over his time but it was pointed out to him that’s all. As for not being paid for being in there, I’ve never heard of anyone having money taken off them for being stopped.
@@RadgieMonkey Then you are probably not a driver, waiting times are not paid. Working hours and driving times are paid, not waiting times
@@RadgieMonkey very simple I can work 14 hours of which 9 hours drive. if I have to stand still for 2 hours somewhere. then I have to hand it in somewhere.
@@mygoodspirit8655 VOSA are really after those that take the piss rather than slightly being overweight or running overtime the odd time by a minute or so as long as your honest about it.
I know it’s only a simple thing, but I’m always impressed by the precision of drivers reversing these vehicles.
It’s a skill, you either can or you can’t and I can’t🥲
I'm impressed any UK lorry drivers have any passion for the job, let alone precision.
'Can you pull me over tomorrow officer I haven't brought my camera today'
Haha so glad I was vlogging 😂
sorry mate you was supposed to pulled over yesterday....... :D :D
This video is very useful for me as a new pass driver! I strap everything, and do my checks every day, but fear for my life if I ever get stopped since I'm a worrier and think they'll find something to screw me for!
That's the easy bit.. The tacho is the main issue..
I really admire your driving skills - especially reversing. I could never begin to even think of doing it. Amazing to you and all other HGV drivers.
Me too, although his head got in the way and I couldn't see where he was going 🤣
Me too, especially how autopilot took over at 44:05
@@grahamp9243 yeah i love these trucks with auto pilot button too! It really helps whe they use their phones aswell. 🤣
Practice makes perfect. Doing it everyday soon brushes up your reversing skills.
Congratulations on the new job Kev! Really pleased for you! Enjoyed this episode and it really does help if you have manners with people that can easily make your day awful 😂😂 Cheeeeers! 😊
A wonderful slice of another mans life, keep on keeping on brother ;)
Great video Kev thanks for sharing this with us . Good luck in your new job. 👍🇬🇧
Great vlog Kev - and well done for keeping the camera rolling whilst being pulled, looks like most of were sweating for you. Both you and DVSA came across as professional and fair. Good Luck in the new job!
I liked the sinister music as you followed the car round to the nest of vipers.
As has already been said, Just as well you had not refueled before the pull.
It's a bit unfair that you have to trust third party weight bridges and VOSA have dynamic weighbridges that will find an axle overload no matter how small.
They even put coaches over and put them over the bridge looking for axle overload.
I hope you new job goes really well and we shall miss the Ovlov.
All the best Chief.
It’s quite cool watching your clog knowing that I’ve been on those roads too. 🚚🚚
He's more a Crocs kinda guy I think?
Great vid Kev, have to say you're like like a proper presenter the way you introduce he vids and explain things - brilliant! Very professional and polite when you were pulled too! Good luck with the new job, always good to get more time with your family!
Good luck Kev,glad your going to do something you really want to do.glad you were okay with traffic enforcement. We have enjoyed your excellent vlogs and hope to continue with some great new adventures. Stay safe & keep on truckin'.
Your cops are so polite, calling you 'sir' and speaking with such a measured and polite tone, its great.
There not really police more like an inspector for hgv and lorries
thats a big trick part of British cops agenda to bring you easy & comfort manner to bring all the truths out , once you done anything wrong you know what they do? , seize ur vehicle , band ur license & make u unemployed and get back to doll :D :D

Another great video Kev, I really enjoyed the vlog and also good luck on the new job and fresh challenge for you and I wish you all the best, Keep up the good work Kev👍🏻
Thanks Steven, glad you enjoyed and hope you also enjoy the new challenges ahead 👍
So enjoyed watching your day out mate, it's so nice to be on the road but not on the road you have safe journeys and post more.
Hi Kev loved this vlog especially the pull from the DVSA, you handled it well, as obviously made you late, pleased to hear of your new job, hope it all goes well.
Best wishes for your new position. Have always enjoyed your vlogs. Looking forward to seeing your future one's.
Another great vlog as always, i had a bad experience with vosa at sleaford A17. 3 minor infringements and was told that i was going be fined £600,after about 10 minutes of bricking it they said don't worry and can go. So that's why i get nervous every time. Good luck on your new job and challenges and looking forward to new vlogs cheeeeeeers.👍
Wishing you all the best with your new job Kev. And I look forward to watching your future vlogs in your new position...
Good look with the new job Kev can't wait to see who your going to be working for
Hi Kev, I retired at 50 had eleven years with Meachers in Southampton class one. Your videos bring back some good and interesting memories, fern down, new forest, tight farms and narrow lanes. Great work, stay safe.
Call me a sceptic but my pound says they alreddy knew where you'd loaded and what you were carrying ;-)
Spot on mate .
Good luck in your new venture Kev mate, look forward to seeing you soon.
Good luck in the new job .... I enjoyed all your Vlogs giving an insight into truck driving and drivers. Looking forward to seeing your new vlogs whenever they happen ... Loved the music on here ....
Great vlog, that scrap yard was tight, love that grapple loader with the rising cab, never seen one of those before.
Good to VOSA ensuring safe vehicles on the road, I expect all vehicles to be the same as mine, ref insured, taxed, MOT's, and safe for road use. Excellent attitude with the traffic highways.
Thanks for sharing, and good luck with furtherment in your career.
Thought that DVSA fella was going to escort you all the way to Camden! 😂
He never went to Camden
lol
Tase..thats what I thought, thought they were taking him to the twilight zone or something
Most interesting video. Took me back to my days in general and container transport, out of the port of Felixstowe, most of which was enjoyable but some presented a few challenges. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. Good luck in the new job. Thanks very much.
Congratulations kev with the new job, hope the hours are better for you & you can spend more time with your family etc. All the best 👍🏻
Thanks mate, hope you enjoy joing me on the new adventures 👍
well done for staying legal Kev the worst yards are the ones with the weight indicators on the fork lifts never seem very accurate, i wonder if they watch that yard and caught a couple out of there previously
Nice one Kev great vid as usual useful you were filming to get an insight into what goes on when stopped! As per usual you seemed to take it all in your stride sir with minimal stress to a 2hr delay! 🤣🤣 Love sitting down to watch these on a Sunday evening! Cheers Dan 👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻
Thanks Dan, yep was real handy the camera were rolling and hopefully have a good insight. Take it easy mate 👍

It's great coffee for the price 👌 I hope you enjoy my new job too mate 👍
Ineresting video with Vosa etc Kev. I especially enjoyed the journeys through London and other places, and not too speeded up as some do (which makes my eyes go squiffy). Liked the music later on too. Good luck and best wishes with the new job. I'm sure you will make the best of it and enjoy it! Safe driving!
Wishing you all the very best in your new job, Kev!!👍🏼
have many years as a driver under my belt had to retire due to a hernia in my groin ...they fixed it 10 years later. and only then because they burst it and i was dying of septisemia.. it took 10 minutes to fix ... i could have been back at work doing the job i loved in maximum 1 week...... im now too old to continue driving. 78....but have all that the bosses want .. all europe ..speak spanish german polish french italian greek ........all that knowledge down the drain...good old england...!

I like how you magicked there car away , pity you couldn’t do that for real on the road , your were just the monotony breaker , they go back to laybye for snoozy time after your going over , good luck in the new job , C Taylor .
Hi Kev, something ive learnt from your Vlog, is to put enough fuel in before being loaded, thus being 44+ ton + fuel = 44++++

great video , loved the music very dramatic, like being waiting for a ride at Alton Towers. loved the cheer when no action was being taken
Spied you going down the A610 through Codnor last Wednesday I think. Couldn't figure out why I recognised the truck until I saw your name plate 😂
Fair play on being totally honest with the results mate 👌

Hi Kevtee good luck with ur new job I hope goes well mate. Last I’d seen of her she’s at Cambridge as a driver trainer . Think she’s been there for roughly 10 odd years. Anyway apologies for sounding like a sad git as I’ve been a bus enthusiast since 88 pal.
Love the truck vlogs. Lots of different loads, excellent driving skills and enjoyable motorway montages.

Great video, could tell how much happier pony was after unload. Thumbs up to DVSA (VOSA). On TV seen them finding unsafe trucks so good they are doing their checks.
Saw that Burden were recruiting on Indeed and thought "Wonder whose leaving"
Good luck with the new job Kev :)

That was near enough the same experience as I had with VOSA, when I was pulled over at some services on the M5. They were extremely pleasant and friendly. Surprised, especially after all the horror stories I've heard about them. Just be polite and friendly with them, and they'll return the favour. I had a dodgy tyre as well. Just had to get that sorted and I was free to go. Least I had the services to wait around in.
Spot on mate, I think most of the stories are just stories or the once that think it's clever to give them attitude, they certainly don't do themselves any favours and I'm sure if I was an arse, my outcome would of been very different 👍
Just illustrates what can happen on any trip with 40 + tonnes up - tyres are the most common and can happen at any time with the amount of debris on the road and that is what makes running trucks a dead loss.
Good luck with the new job mate..looking forward to seeing what it is......intrigued👍
Great vlog, fair play to DVSA being goodfellas, best of luck in the new job look forward to the next vlog soon.
Thanks John, there not as bad as made out as long as your making an effort of course. Hope you enjoy joining me in the new venture 👌

The way you guys reverse these things never fails to impress the shit out of me
I have been driving 40 years and thats the nicest i have seen VOSA treat a driver
To be honest I've had 3 encounters with the DVSA and all have been plesent and professional. As in most cases if you approach them with an attitude then you will most likely receive the same in return. Run legal, be plesent and I've never had a problem 👍
Notice the guy at the weigh bridge walks towards the nearside, it startled him you were English. Must have it out for you.
surprised they didnt try and do you for the dog in the windscreen, as its just inside the window wiper scope lol
If I'd been the copper/vosa who pulled this trucker, I would suggest he passed the "attitute test" with flying colours! THIS video highlights exactly how the public/professional drivers should deal with the authorities!

Great to see everyone being pleasant with one another. As you say, keeping on top of things and not being a dick goes a very long way. I’ve subscribed! 😁👍
Echoing this. Seems to be far too many people out there these days who want to argue with the officials (from police and VOSA to anything including sports referees and door bouncers) and think they're never in the wrong or the official has no right to tell them what to do.. If you speak to them properly and civilly you probably wont even be in trouble
Passed my PSV Test first time in 1967 and drove Buses all over London and the West End for London Transport for a good few years. Did an HGV course, around 1985 (cost about £900) and failed my test. He said my o/s back trailer wheels went over the kerb, which I know they didn't. I asked him "How is it that I can drive a fully loaded Double Decker Bus with standing passengers, or a Coach all round London and across Europe, (which I had done) but you are telling me that I'm not competent to drive 10 ton of eggs half a mile down the road? He ignored me and walked off to his office and shut the door, I called him a "Rotter." :-) BTW I enjoyed the video, glad that I have retired and don't need to drive for a living anymore and Good luck with your new job.
Good luck, looking forward to new videos on a Sunday night. Many thanks for uploading, off to watch ya Sat nav review as have I now passed my class 2 itching for me class 1. 😁

If that guy checked your Tacho without showing you his 'Control' card and replacing your 'Driver' card in the Tacho with his then I am not sure that was a legal tachograph download. However long you were there will therefore have counted towards your daily hours WTD hours.
I had many a copper and DVSA fellah when digital Tachos first came out because I was a trained tachograph fitter both analogue and digital before the Poles took over at the Scania dealer I worked at and went back on the road until I retired. They didn't seem to understand UTC time and the fact they also had to be trained and authorised on them ...

Being Owner/ and operator over here in the States this was an intriguing vlog. Im a bit of, what we call an outlaw, so watching you following the vosa made me impatient. I was thinking i wouldve just kept circling the round about or kept straight when they took the get off, they've had to chase me. I wonder what type of citation that would had rendered? Lol which is something I've made DOT(Department of Transportation) do before. Thank goodness you didnt fuel up yet. Anytime i had to go to those type of customers i always top off fuel because for some reason they never seem to care if im only at a quarter of a tank of fuel. Well Kev congrats and good luck on the new endeavor! Cheeeeerrrrrrsssss 😁
They'd find something for definite if you didn't comply, people that start the conversation with " don't you have anything better to do?" Will have their tacho records for the passed 2 months pulled, and they'd fine you £200 for each infringement, including slight overspeeds drown hills etc, and they'd make extra sure they find something wrong with the rig! It can get expensive if you don't pretend you appreciate what they're doing!
Thankfully in the UK it isn't illegal to run from law enforcement
I ran their Ford Galaxy through my system. Their particulars appear to be okay but worryingly, the car model was recalled last year which I hope they kept on top of.

Interesting journey. I actually worked at the industrial site you delivered to, in North Crescent. My role was in Fleet ensuring drivers and vehicles complied with EU and British laws, so your 'pull' was very interesting :-)
Great interaction with the DVSA. my attitude is treat people how you want to be treated. Great vlog as always, and good luck with the new job. No need to justify it us why you are moving. The only people that matter in that decision is you and your family.
Cheers Andy, hope you enjoy the new content 👍
That's interesting I thought just get on the scale than just stop and wait for the full weight but you got to do a slow roll to get the actual weight interesting !!
Brad Haughton: The instrument that is used here for enfocement is Weigh In Motion (WIM). Personal preference is for a multiple deck weighbridge, as you can get all of your weights while you are stopped. Driving over, no matter how slow, introduces errors from suspensions, rims, shock absorbers, engine speed variations and even ground movement from the vibration of the vehicle driving over.
Only ever been pulled once, nice chap, only checked my tacho. Wanted me out quick as trailer was empty 🙈
Kev tee . Good luck with the new job . Look forward to seeing what it is. Keep up the good work.
I don't envy you with the London driving. I'm off the road now but I used to hate that. Horrible place to drive anything, especially an artic'.
Neil Mallett Hi Neil, kev's doing exactly what we all used to do,I thought I recognised that scrapyard in fern down. I early retired at 50 and don't miss it especially London and Bristol.
London has got even worse last few months, and that is from a car driver point of view.
That time before the lights came on was them reading your second generation tachograph remotely. It will undoubtedly have been your tacho infringements that got you pulled.
Only been pulled by them once, it was the bulging curtains that drew attention, but the last laugh was on me because the 180 bags of polystyrene loose fill I was carrying didn't even total at half a tonne.
P.S. I had a lucky escape on chilled delivery last year, my unit and the double deck trailer I was dragging, weighed in at 49.6 tonnes. Had to get some pallets offloaded before I could continue my journey on to company HQ at Leicester.
Many myths there mate, I don't have a second generation tacho and the only info that can be downloaded wirelessly is vehicle reg, calibration date, tacho tampering detection and faults 👍
They can’t read your tacho remotely.

Jesus, glad I'm in a HGV job that they can't pull you over 😂😂, for any reference I'm an AA recovery driver and the status we have on tacho means we don't get yard searches or pulled over, always have that feeling that some of them don't know that when you see them pull out behind you on the A14 😂 Good to see what they do and how they conduct their searches though
They can pull you over they just dont have a need I know this I've worked for aa rac and smaller firms
I really enjoyed that trip bud, it was like being sat in the cab with you, thanks for the run out. I miss driving...
First video I’ve watched of yours and really good I’m currently doing my CPC to get back into truck driving after 15 years away from it so I’m looking forward to that new challenge in my life .... keep it up 👍🏻
Cheers Darren and welcome to the channel. Good luck with the CPC and getting back on the road 👍
When i used to carry steel for a living, i was stopped by the Police "because it looks heavy" in fact i was over a ton inside. Had it been over weight, they would have made me take it off, either at the bridge or back at my yard. I was less than a mile from the drop. How can that have made sense.
Unfortunately the reason being, making you return or unloading would hopefully prevent a recurrence, if you were overweight and they allowed you to continue, there is always a danger your company runs you overweight more often or even push the boundaries further 👍
Goes to show that being polite helps, if you got out of the cab and were being difficult, they could have fined you and impounded the truck.
Brilliant work glad it all worked out just fine thanks for the amazing content
Cheers mate 👌
Your video brought back some nice memories.
Not all inspectors were that good, or experts at their job.
In about 1985 I was stopped by the police on the A303, just as I came off the M3. As the police officer approached my cab, in my nearside wing mirror, I could see an old man in a white coat getting under my trailer, smoking a pipe. I directed the officer to tell that man to move away immediately. The officer looked startled but then realised he had stopped a petrol tanker. He quickly moved the old man away from my truck and apologised to me before waving me on.
