    I love the iPad Air 4 but I think the mini is great for taking to the hospital with me as a medical student, I can keep the mini in my lab coat pocket and take notes on the go but at the same time my own tiny traditional notebook with paper is working just as great lol and I take the iPad Air 4 with me to lectures anyways. I’ve been a big fan of the iPad Air since I got the iPad Air 2 which I gave to my dad now that I got the air 4 and he’s been using it for basic stuff like emails, UA-cam, etc.

    this is helpful for me since I am torn between the 12.9" and 11" and I said to myself maybe it's just a matter of relativity of sizes. We want what is optimum. What concerns me is maybe the 11" is small for me during multi-tasking/split-screen and then upon checking how it was on the mini, I can actually say that the 11" is indeed not too small.

    I'm not in school but work as a data warehouse developer. In that kind of job, you need a lot of scratch memory to juggle design elements and database layouts. So to augment my brain, I use the pen and notability to create documents. The big benefit is that you can go back and look at a document and refresh your memory from time to time. Anything bigger than the Mini would get in the way. At noon I use the device to check on social media and look at news and tech stuff (I have the 5G model.)

    I have to choose between the iPad Air (used the have the first gen. iPad Air years ago) and the iPad mini 6th gen, as a replacement for our ipad mini 2nd gen. I think I would love the bigger screen when I am working on it f.ex. in split mode (but i don't know how often I would even use it to work on it as I usually use my macbook pro 2019 for work) but I love how small and LIGHT the ipad mini is. A very very hard decision... For now love the ipad Mini 2! i will be getting the ipad mini as a student. I am a nursing student and work in a nursing home besides collage, so i need to study on the go and a laptop is a little big to study with on the bus all the time or just so take a quick note on. So for me it would be a on the go study device. I love my macbook air but i just need something smaller on the go. Inspecally since i swich between busses all the time to get to work or school. Like think of this situation, I get out of class with my macbook in my bag, go to buss nmb 1 and need to pick it out, fould it up, log in and then i can read or search for what ever i need but after 6 min i need to pack it back in to my backpack and get to the next buss where the same dilemma starts again. I need 2 min out of those 6 just to unfold and defold a laptop wehre when i had a ipad mini i could just pick it out of the bag and get started reading or looking up the fact i need to know. So in lectures and at home i use my macbook air but on the go i use my ipad mini. I think it would be a perfect combination.

    I feel like the iPad Mini is perfect for high school students
    If you don’t want to give your kid a phone (my parents didn’t), an iPad Mini is an amazing all-in-one device, for a single-installment purchase with a fairly inexpensive price as smart devices go. I loved my iPad Mini 2 at that time, had a phone number on it through an app that gave like 5 free phone calls a day and unlimited texting (Google Voice didn’t exist), I could contact anyone same as a phone so long as I was on wifi, which I almost always was. And it was also an incredible device for entertainment and decent for schoolwork.
    But today? I’ve got an iPhone XR, an iPad Air (2022), and fond memories of my old iPad Mini which had my favorite onscreen keyboard ever. That onscreen keyboard is not a good enough reason to spend $400 on an iPad Mini, every other thing I do is just as good or better on a 6-inch slab or an 11-inch slab than it would be on an 8-inch slab. The iPad Mini is the compromise, it’s the “good enough at everything” device if you can only pick one, it can be used as a phone (albeit a green bubble) but it’s not optimized for being a phone, and it’s not optimized for being a tablet either. Only thing it really has going for it if you’ve already got a real phone is that it’s more comfortable to hold and possible to pocket compared to a bigger iPad, but
    - if I’m drawing I want a bigger screen
    - if I’m consuming content I want a bigger screen
    - if I’m doing basically anything where I’m not needing to type extensively on the onscreen keyboard I want a bigger screen
    - if I’m taking notes or writing a paper I want a magnetic keyboard
    And that’s, about 95% of what I do with my iPad. Once in a while I’ll play a game on it, and most games don’t work comfortably with touch controls on a screen this big, so I suppose I’d probably get better gaming out of an iPad Mini than I would out of my XR or my Air. But if I’m at home I’d rather, play an *actual* game on my PC or my Switch instead of the latest money-grubbing scam that sucks unless you spend $500.

    I saw you have the Keys to Go. That is - in my opinion - the best possible option. You say "the keyboard isn't convenient". That is a heavy statement. Honestly - I love keeping the extremely thin and light Keys2Go in my backpack - it's like it is not even there. But when you do want to type longer things, then just whip it out, and off you go.

    • @patrickpaganini
      @patrickpaganini 2 роки тому

      I'm typing on the keys2Go atm - it takes a bit of practise to get fast on it as you almost need a different technique (use less motion, and kind of feel the tiny movement of the keys), but it's an absolutely fantastic travel keyboard as you can literally put it in a backpack and forget it is there, it is so thin and light.

    will have hard debate if i have a son going to university now. I think that if battery life is not major concern, then the Surface Pro is probably best choice for just school and stuff. Back in my time, i really jealous of mac users able to login to unix natively though. But i suspect modern windows solved that? No idea. I think the surface plus a 11 inch ipad pro would be perfect together. If i just want mac, mmm... probably don't want to carry the laptop around. But the ipad size is a big debate. 12.9 is heavy and battery life not perfect. But it is most versatile and comfortable for watching stuff. 11 inch is lighter and seems to have longest battery life. But limited to do multi window viewing. Ipad mini is fun, but no keyboard and battery life is worst. I traded in my mini 5. Got it after my 12.9. Loved it but used it least and when really try to use it, there is not enough ram. I always fantasized reading on it when i see them sold at bookstores.

    Is the screen too small for students ? For example for making e notes and attending zoom calls (just the basic student, not talking about those who do editing etc)

    • @bbnazir
      @bbnazir 2 роки тому +19

      The screen is definitely small if you are going to have 2 windows in multitasking mode. It's like using 2 small phones, better option would be to go for the standard 9th gen iPad. With accessories and everything it's a greater deal. And the bigger display makes it better for note-taking, online classes etc. The non-laminated display is not really a huge deal breaker. Will you notice the air gap? Yes. But does it distract you? No. It's a digital tablet. After some time you will get used to the feel. The display quality is very good. The only downside maybe the lack of stereo speakers in iPad 9, but it does have a headphone port. So you can address that. But for an emergency of course you can make do with the downward firing speakers absolutely fine.
      For students the iPad 9 is a good deal considering the costs of accessories and everything else even storage. The iPad mini is nice, but as you'll learn from a lot of other users it's a specialised tablet. The people who need it know for what exactly they'll use it.
      For students the larger screen will be extremely beneficial

    100% true... i love hate my ipad pro 12.9 inch. I love it when I am drawing or video editing: hate it when I am taking notes in class or at home on my desk. There is no room for my keyboard and mouse when I am at my desk and I can't have my iPad and book infront of me in a small class desk. And backtracking to drawing: I find that I zoom in most of the time rather than moving my hand across a larger screen. mini is a little too small but 12.9 is definitely no longer tablet sized -its a small laptop size. Ipad mini to ipad pro 11 is the perfect size for a tablet. I want a tablet. Not a laptop replacement.. And the mini is the best tablet, and could even be better if apple just gave it promotion and made it thicker for a larger battery.

    Nice presentation. The size of the mini makes it very attractive replacement for my Pro, which is large heavy but has good screen real estate. My Pro has taken abuse in my over cramped bag, thus why I want to make a move. I mostly use my Pro for Notability, movies and internet, but I still do not know if the mini would be a good replacement or practical for notetaking especially for multi-taking. Thoughts anyone?

      I actually just recently traded in my 12.9 iPad Pro for the iPad mini 6, and I absolutely love it! I'm also a college student who uses the exact same apps/for the exact same purposes, and I've been loving it so far.
      The device is definitely much smaller, but taking notes hasnt been much of a change. I will say that you definitely have less space to write, meaning you likely would have to scroll around a bit more frequently, but the zoom-in feature on Notability (and other note-taking apps) with automatic scrolling makes that less noticeable and doesn't hinder much anyways. Multitasking may be a bit weird to get used to, but in landscape mode it should be fine.
      Overall the switch has been really great and I actually find myself using this iPad much more than I did with my pro, simply because it's so much more accessible and portable.

      The device is good but for multitasking if u wanna strain your eyes only then go for it because multitasking is extremely crapped and your hand always moves off of the device, also i noticed that the real estate isnt for a heavy note taker
