How To Edge Like A Pro With a String Trimmer Vs Using A Stick Edger - Lawn Care Vlog Walk Through
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- Hey guys, wanted to show you how to edge a lawn with a string trimmer in lawn care. I also show you the difference when using a stick edger, vs a string trimmer, when you edge a lawn. Again, I personally feel you get the best results when using a stick edger, but there is nothing wrong when starting out, getting an edge line with a string trimmer.
The trimmer I was using is my Redmax 260TS, and the stick edger is the Redmax HEZ2460. I love both of those units, and I have used them for a very long time. Again, if you're going to be doing lawn care for a while, I highly encourage folks to invest in a good quality stick edger.
If you're new to edging with a trimmer, give yourself some slack. It takes time to develop the skill set, to get a nice clean line. Don't be surprised if it takes you a few times to get it just right!
What do you guys prefer, stick edger, or using a string trimmer? Comment down below!

I used to do a lot of extras for customers back when running my truck. Problem with doing few extras, it always leads to more extras. Some of these folks think we should still be cutting grass for $20, like a teen pushing a mower through the neighborhood. They cant understand why their yard will cost $50-$80 a cut.
I personally have worked with both. I do the trimmer from the sidewalk and hold it straight. I have pretty much mastered this technique with the trimmer, but the edger even from a rookie looks better than a master with a trimmer imo.
I agree for the most part, but certain grasses eg. st Augustine, look better edged with a trimmer.
I use the edge it pro and a stick edger I like the edge it for maintaining an edge around mulch beds. Usually just take it slow and try to keep it from flinging mulch everywhere.
If you roll your feet ( like corps style marching) as you walk, you keep yourself from bouncing. If you’re moving backwards, up on the balls of feet, you’ll be able to move quickly, and keep yourself from bouncing up and down. The less you bounce, the better you keep your eye-line, getting straighter edges. All the summers cutting grass made me a better marcher for marching band too!
27 yrs in the military... I agree. Lose the bounce in your step when trimming, put the bounce back when hitting the bank for deposits.
The criticism from the youtube experts cracks me up every time. This guy makes a living off this and his edger cost more than the average guy’s lawn mower. I don’t think he needs your approval 😂😂.
😉😎
It is funny to hear peoples BS about a string trimmer working better than an edger. If that was truly the case they would have never made blade edgers. Instead they would have made better adapters to make string trimmers function better as string edgers.
Stacy Jr been in business in the business since I was 16 im 32 now and operate a successful lawn care business. In fact I'm a one man band who has 60 clients 10 of which are corporate/plants oh and 2 baseball complexes.
To each its own
So does this mean you don't need your edger any more Brian?
Just edged my yard the other week for the first time ever with the weed Wacker....i did have to go over it a couple of times to get the sod pulled loose where it was growing up over the pavement but omg just spending like 30 minutes on it with the weed Wacker was such a huge improvement. No regrets on it.
As always, great video! Totally agree, you need a stick edger if you want results. String trimmers can be used on already established edges, but not for cutting overgrown edges! If I'm doing a short stretch, on an already established edge, I'll use the trimmer, but for long runs and thicker overgrown edges, a stick edger can't be beat. I do find it interesting that you hold the trimmer across your body to the left, and walk forward in the grass when edging with a trimmer....I have always walked forward (sideways), with the trimmer on my head on my right, walking on the concrete. I may have to try your method, to see if I like it. Thanks for the videos!
Bent shaft is typically for string head Having a cable drive shaft. The straight has often a solid shaft necessary for poly /steel blade applications. Some are still cable even when straight shaft ,I think they are more forgiving when under load. Btw you really should have a German Stihl 😉
Nothing like good ol' german engineering👍
When I edge with the Waker, I turn it upside down and walk backwards. Works pretty good
I always use a string trimmer to edge. Seeing concrete eaten away from sloppy edger work bugs me lol...
You're obviously skilled and professional, so rock on brother!
We charge $10.00 per inch it goes onto the concrete. Find the longest part of overgrowth and thats what to measure and charge. If theres literal soil and sod from years of overgrowth its a way bigger number to charge. We haven't been told that it is too expensive yet! Some recent ones we have had have been between 5-7 inches. Obviously if the area is very big, pricing could change. We use the STIHL FC95 Stick Edger first to get the line. Then use our STIHL 111RX String Trimmer to cut it off. Then go back with the stick edger for the clean cut.
Tiger Lawn Care LLC well said. I like that.
Per inch? That’s ridiculous!!
If I'm the customer I would laugh u off my yard walking up taking measurements. Stick to $10,$15,$25. You know just by looking what the job takes. Bermuda vs Zoysia or Centipede or even tuff ass Weeds on the edge. Makes it look like sales breaking out a tape measure
musclepits, exactly. Don’t imagine they get much business for that price! It is comical!
I totally agree with you on the yards that have over grown edges. Use the hard blade for edging.
I use trimmers for edging and trimming. It's a lot faster for me. Especially if I'm edging and come up to a mailbox. All you have to do is set it straight and trim.
I understand why you hold it that way as well(keeps the fuel flowing threw the lines). If you flip the trimmer and walk (forward) while on the concrete side it'll give you a better and deeper cut almost like the blades. But be careful of some debris that might fly up.(😎safety first).
You can also use it the same way and walk on the grass but it must remain in the same flipped position I just explained.
I'll try to make a video and post it on Instagram the next time I cut and tag you so you can see.
Nice work Brian keep it up!
Hi Brian I am from Jamaica and I really appreciate this video demonstration. I am really new to this kind of business but it is something that I have been doing voluntarily in my community for years. I certainly can learn a whole lot from if you don't mind.
Christians' Force Orders (CFO) Hope it helps!
Fine for a clean up. Nothing beats a three wheeler with a blade. Especially beginning of the season. I like to back up and kick the dirt out. Nice deep groove.
Hey Brian try edging from the outside of the yard with with your trimmer head facing the opposite direction. Myself with my company I edge every time I cut, no exceptions.
This is my first time coming across your channel. I like how you're humble with your opinions, but also back them up with common sense that some people might not think about. Awesome teaching video!! I don't do any commercial mowing, just my personal lawn...I use my echo straight shaft trimmer to edge. I will definitely be looking into an edger, very clean look! Keep up your videos, very professional and informative!
Thanks buddy
Up here in the northeast a lot of the edges of driveways are cracked good luck using a edger, I won't break out the edger unless I'm doing top notch properties
I like the look of line trimmers vs the stick edger
In 12 years if lawn care I have never even put my hands on an edger. They just aren't popular in my area. You hardly ever see an edger on a truck in West Tn. We got edging down with our trimmers tho l can assure you.
+Matt Reynolds nice!
Matt Reynolds same here from California
same here in the uk ;)
Matt Reynolds almost 40 years for my dad’s business here in Canada, and never had a power edger. I have done a great job of edging with an electric trimmer(not my first choice). You can edge with any trimmer if you know what you’re doing.
I find it easier to string trim edge if it really over grown and you dont know where the concrete is.
I will use an edger once a month at the most at any property to clean it up
Tried edging with the trimmer the way you do it. Did not take long to adobt. No debris flying at me. Works great. Will keep it that way.
Hendrik Jürgens awesome!
We use manual edger to clean the major overgrowth off walkways. This helps finding the sidewalk edges. Then we use the edger to straighten the edge. We then clean it up with our trimmers.
Hmmmm, interesting, I was a lawn care pro for 15 years in the 80's/90's & we used either a Power Trim or a Mclane edger with a 2 or 3 horse Briggs engine, never once put a rock through a window because I always put my body between me & the building/parked car/street. But there were times that a rock would hit me in the shin & cut through my pants & draw blood. I started wearing shin guards under my pants. Awe, times have changed, this looks like a pretty good system though.
I always edge with the string trimmer walking forward & barely tapping on the gas so debris dont fly anywhere , you just have to be careful & watch your self, much love from Naples,Florida
My old boss would have chewed me out if he ever saw me trim a line like that we never had any stick edgers with us but it does do a good lines if your skills aren't there yet with a trimmer
I like how clean and organized the equipment looks like
I struggle holding the trimmer in that orientation, spills my beer every time
Lmao
You need a beer helmet
Always drink half the beer before you start. There !!spills problem gone😊👍
cspriggs96 Damn! Put the trimmer down?
You a fool homie.😁😁😁
I've got most tools imaginable.....Including a complete Stihl Kombi-system, and I still enjoy great videos from this guy...you can always get an new idea....I've gotten more great ideas from forums for my John Deere tractor, my Scag zero turn and all of my yard equipment from youtube type videos.....nice job....keep it up. EB
Mostly Filipinos do that work in Hawaii and they charge about $85 every time they come out. A crew of three will hit about 70 yards a day.
$85?,three guys 70 yards a day? So your telling me their almost six grand a day? Somethings not right. A 12 hour work day that’s 10 minutes a yard. No one is paying $85 for 10 minutes of work or 30 minutes of work by three people.
I just asked this question yesterday. I’m not good at edging. I use a string trimmer. Great tips. Saving for an actual edger
There are other factors in edging too. Like, being left handed versus right. How you hold the trimmer. I don't like to walk on the grass, foot step marks, plus chance of stepping in a hole etc. I like walking on sidewalk myself.
If there is a hole, it needs to be filled/leveled
Great video. The main difference, as far as I know, from the straight to the bent shafts is the durability and life of the shaft itself. There are a few more failure points with a bent shaft.
Hey brian, important note for you and your viewers coming from a fellow lawn specialist. You should actually never try to create edges with anything besides a metal bladed edger. Allow me to explain:
Grass needs to experience a true and clean cut in order to maintain its health. Weed wackers are meant to be used parallel to the grass.. and using it diagonal or vertical actually does not cut the grass at all but in fact TEARS it. When grass blades are torn, this causes stress on that area of grass. And when grass becomes stressed it becomes more susceptible to being taken over by weeds. As we all know, edges are the worst for weeds anyways so i would recommend either use a metal bladed edger or just leave it alone
What brand do you recommend?
So how is a blade any different as this is cutting in a vertical plane too. If anything, you can bevel the Strimmer cord 15 deg or so off vertical. You can't with a blade.
@@Saxondog give him time, he's still writing his response
The video on edging. I just did a yard and it took me a hour plus. 28 degrees and windy, the yard was a double lot and there was side walk in the back yard. One more week tell we shut down for the winter. But watching these videos has me looking ford to next year, thanks I’ll need to get one of those t-shirts too
When I edge with a trimmer I put the trimmer straight vertical and walk it down the straight line, comes out alot better then how you were holding it
"Overgrown" lmao I found an extra foot of sidewalk on my backyard walkway after it's first edge in probably 15 years
Me too 😂
Yeah but you’re probably 1 in a million that has that problem
Some of my places the grass is the sidewalk
I got pretty good using my string trimmer for edging, but the edger still did a better job. Using the string trimmer was also harder on my back because of the way I had to walk. I enjoy using an edger with the Golden Edge about once a month, and a normal blade every other mow. My edges stay really clean this way. I’m not a pro, and just my opinions. Loved this video! 👍
Alright, I'm sold. The older I get, the more I learn to let my pride go, I hate having a tight back and an imperfect line lol.
I like red max the equipment always starts up right away
man you are the only other person that uses Redmax. I bought a trimmer used and it is powerful and starts every time.
Subscribed etc... watching this on a week's holiday at the end of the grass season. Nothing makes me want to get back to it more lol
Lol
I use the stick edger attachment for my Stihl KM131 power heads and the blower attachment to blow out that line once it's edged. Blowing out the soil from the edged line not only helps keep the line clean (stuff regrows in the line if it's not cleaned out), but it also gets the clippings off the hardscape and onto the lawn where I can mulch it up afterwards.
Been doing landscaping for about 7 years, started at 13 years old and was taught to not made a wide gap between lawn and concrete, walk in the concrete if you want straight lines. The edging in my opinion looks ugly... but good job.
why? out of curiosity. Mosquitos?
I totally agree with a Stick edger vs a weed eater. I think the Trimmer is great for edges that are kept up. The new edges our overgrown, i definitely use the Stick edger. By using the Trimmer its one less unit i have to tote around. When you holding the Trimmer go ahead and hold the shaft and have the engine further up . Yes the engine is close to your face. The weight difference is amazing. It seems as if I have better control. Great video, keep running!
Crew always use the eaters, walk backwards always with straight equipment, and have LONG string out and it's just as good. Only one property they bring the stick edger.
I love the way you keep your trailer so clean! Set by example.
I suck at trimming with string. Just keeping it real.
Me too
It is definitely a practice thing...don't be too hard on yourself-it's just grass man-it will grow back and you get to practice again lol
Try different handgrip positions and walking forward or backwards...left to right... eventually you will be able to do it any which way...but find you have some preferences...I prefer to go backwards-I find I get a more level/straight edge-just be very careful about trip hazards and what is around you-forwards is safer for sure
Me too 😂😂😂
@@kirkthebeerslinger Or, and this might sound crazy, but hear me out, you could just buy the edger and have it look perfect the first time.
You have to get the right angle and practice. I find standing in the grass with the trimmer upside works the best.
As Brian's client that has cut, trim and blow service, I did my own edging of about 40 ft of driveway recently that was not to grown over with dirt and grass, but being relatively skilled with a trimmer, It still took me 20 mins or more to get a clean edge, a inch or so down through the dirt with a string trimmer of 0.105, with a a face full of terra firma, and a ton of line. Next time I'm adding it to my service.
That's awesome lol. Thx for the support Dan!
My third time watching this and I don’t even mow my lawn 😂
Lol
I’ll do it for you hahah
I like the way you explain everything it makes it so easy to understand
You edged with weed whacker the wrong way. Try it walking backwards. Feet on concrete. Debri fly's the other way and it fits and goes in the groove where previous edge is
Dan Yesenko I walk backwards grass side. Works best for me!
I walk backwards as well. Walking forward makes it slower. For me.
Whether debris flies toward you or away from you has nothing to do with what direction you walk, it's all about what side of the trimmer head you use to trim. For a straight shaft, if you want debris to fly away from you, you have to trim using the the right half of the trimmer head as the debris will fly to the front-right/ front. If you use the left side of the head the debris will fly mostly to the back toward the user. For a curved shaft this would be the reverse of the above since the trimmer head rotates in the opposite direction.
I always walk on concrete so I can see my edge better but I also hold my weed eater up higher so I get a better lockdown.
Well you’re both wrong. You walk on the sidewalk in the same direction he was and you hold the whip out in front. Just the same as you would with an edger. It isn’t so bad if you’re a man. I agree an edger will do the best, quickest job and be the easiest to operate.
Wow, Brian should speak on the conference level, very good, very succinct. My wife just bought me a gas-powered trimmer to edge the sidewalks with, this makes me want to fix the gas-powered edger my mom left in the shed...!
We have a live conference each November, come hear us speak, lol
Edger is the way to go here in miami Costurmers like the edger better i have had several Costurmers fire there lawn guy cause of always breaking there windows with the trimmer edging and hitting there cars its very risky and if you hit someone with a rock forget it i can't take that liability risk edgers are much safer and also faster thanks for your video.
Victor Rippe don’t take off the cover then.. the 14 years done lawns never hit anything.
If you use an edger (and a trimmer) properly and contentiously, your degree of damage/risk is minimal. Not to mention, if you are in this business and you don't have $500K to $1M liability insurance, you're playing with fire in this legal climate we have in the USA. $500K to $1M liability coverage isn't as expensive as you may think, assuming you already have a solid customer base with seasonal/annual contracts. You are using power equipment around homes, cars and people. Liability insurance is necessary.
@@nunyabiznis817
j
You’re in southern Florida my guy!! You’d be crazy not to have edgers on deck
I personally believe and have been taught through the years that if you have to use a stick edger never on a paver driveway and only whip Edge the corners so that you don't bang the edger blade. And bend it then deal with those vibrations.
I'll stIck with a WALK BEHIND EDGER! it may be a little slower but it gives the very best edge PERIOD!!! and it's easy on the body
Been waiting for a high quality video on this topic from Brian's Lawn Maintenance!
Tboy The Rapper me too 😂
You'll never edge well with a trimmer using that technique. Flip it up, with the engine near your shoulder and walk backwards so you can see exactly where your line is and the debris flies away from you. This is why you need an edger.
Always walk the direction the string is guiding, no weird wobbles and u won't be fighting the string that way. Idk just how I learned it
Paul Blaser You are 100% correct. I can edge better with a weed whacker than most can with an edger because of the exact same method you mentioned. I’ve been using that technique for the past 20 years and has never failed me.
Wow never seen that technique before. Even with the trimmer being so easy Brian you use the opposite technique and don't go across your body. That was something to see.
flipping it is good... but i think it would wear on the shaft more, especially if you don't pay attention to the fuel
I always do that since I don't mow a lot of houses with sidewalks, it works perfect for beds. But the edger is a bit quicker and more dummy proof.
Great video, as a home user and not a pro I've just never been able to justify another piece of equipment for edging so have just used my Echo trimmer. Upgraded late last year to putting that edge it disc on there and that has helped a good bit but definitely never get those perfect edges. Always wind up wavy no matter how much I focus on it.
Question about the point at the end, inside and opposite way. Not sure what that means. I suspect I'm probably doing the exact opposite, I cut from sidewalk and usually in the opposite direction that you were going.
Also one thing that has helped me with my thick St Aug lawn when some runners start poking out along the edge is I'll make a pass at 45 degrees hitting the line where the sidewalk and grass meet, then go back with a 90 degree pass for my edging. Helps to pre cut some of the clumps or thicker stuff that managed to creep out on me.
Juncti yup. I do that too, the 45 cut. And I trim from the grass side. Ie, I walk the grass. Usually forward but backwards seems to pull it back and make it smoother/squared off
Anyone else get satisfaction out of hearing this trimmer line hit the grass and concrete? Or is it me just getting old?
That’s great, but if you swap your edger blade more often it will cut even better, and also when edging with a string trimmer the best way is backwards because it cleans as it digs the edges
If you charge $25 to get the edge back in shape, then I would prefer you to get it right the first time by using the stick edger according to the yard that you say was overgrown.
I picked up a PAS edger and bed redifiner and the paddle bloom. Took my game to a whole new level and fast
If anyone wants something that’s versatile I picked up a ryobi battery powered weed eater and you can buy attachments for a lot of different things... the extra attachment I picked up is an edger attachment and it works great.
Nice I use snapper electric push mower blower and trimmer and I can usually do 1 yard with on battery
Lil late for this comment but if u have 4 stroke trimmers then u can not use them to edge with. The engine will blow cause gas trimmers r not made to be turned upside down
Thanks for your videos Brian. sad but I guess allot of these guys "know everything" and want to tell you what you are doing wrong. crazy. Thank you sir keep going
Bryan Welker lol amen. Everyone has their opinion! Funny how folks never seem to say "I do it my way but your way looks good too". Just our society today.
I put wd40 on my edger guards so that grass doesn't stick very much 👍👍
Smart
Pam as well
That’s what nascar does
For brake dust
each his own, brother. i'll tell you like a friend, 😋 i'm part circus act, part surgeon with my 266t, i keep the edges of my lawns ( for the most part ) looking like sharp slices of cake. & especially now that i'm using black diamond, it's also possible to find the sidewalk or driveway of an overgrown edge with a trimmer, & once you find that, you can edge bone straight & much faster ( unless the concrete itself is old and crooked ).
ha!
I just love edging. What’s this about grass?
Hey my friend I just saw the edging video and I want to say that I use a stick edger on every single yard every single time it takes me under 2 to 3 minutes per house to use the stick edger every time Yes you have to buy some blades more often but you get that consistent look every time. I do like the idea of charging $25 for the first time house that hasn't had an edge done because you're right you get a lot of grass you have to take out of the equation however I don't rake or bag any of it. After I get done edging all the grass inside out of the sidewalk I take my back but all into the lawn and then I just take my ex mark zero turn and it shreds it to pieces and no one is the wiser and it saves me a bunch of time on clean up and I don't have any debris to remove away.
i've never herd of charging extra for edging thats insane wow
Hugo Garcia Grind out one that's 4" overgrown and you'll start charging!
Hugo, it depends on the market. Maybe in your market people will not pay for such things. Every town and area is different.
You gotta get creative with the charging if u want to grow
There’s no way he never heard of charging for edging. Getting an over grown edge is harder than cutting the whole yard lol. Them over grown sidewalks ain’t no joke. And you got a mess to clean up too.
Hugo Garcia You must be one of the guys that gives away work wow
You must get free equipment
I just bought the head and redefiner today. $800! I will try it out tomorrow.
1:35 I have an edger, albeit a cheapo attachment to a Ryobi power head; but I HATE using it. If I'm doing a corner lot with a sidewalk, I go ahead and break it out. But I am thoroughly unsatisfied with the results it produces. A string trimmer results in a much better quality, but with a lot more effort. I also use the edger for heavily overgrown edges, but I still have to go back with the string trimmer. I usually also have to blow the debris on the lawn and make a pass with my mulching blades to resolve the debris. Sometimes I opt to just use the string trimmer from the start. It uses a lot of string, but saves me the time of going back and forth with multiple tools.
I'm hoping this video can enlighten me to any failures in my procedure so I can use the right tool for the job and waste less time.
The edger promotes weed germination especially in the hot summer months so get that q4 plus ready after using it , the string trimmer is a better option imo
weeds pop up due to an improperly kept property, fertilizer, insecticide, ect
I prefer using the edger then a line trimmer. Just like you said it looks better. I’m from Florida. I used to get Redmax equipment but have several problems with it. I switched to Stihl
Can't really get good clean lines with the trimmer I use - for one reason. It's company owned, and they want me to leave the guard on the machine. Which I don't really care for. So.. I find the best way in my situation, is to walk forwards with the trimmer at a 45 degree angle, using the 1 o'clock position to trim the edge. It cleans up limp weeds hanging over the edge of the curb and throws them back onto the lawn. By the time you finish mowing it looks sharp as long as you keep steady.
Liked the video. Do you have any videos on edging flower beds. This is my biggest problem. Thanks
Naht sorry, but I'll see what I can do
Sounds Great Thanks
Always try what is commonly done in the industry. If something "odd" works better, you can only know that if you have done it the normal way first. Good advice you gave to those wanting to be long term!
The difference between the trimmer and the edger is small, but it is real. I see what you mean. Is it a massive difference? No. But, it doesn't have to be for Minutiae Theory to take effect. Do 3 or 4 things like this and the results will be amazing!
It's never ok to edge with a string trimmer. I'm glad you said to be a professional you should use an edger.
I'm looking into buying one! When you aren't cutting nice lawns, the trimmer head likes get sucked in on thick weeds. It would be nice to set up a nice line with an edger and then just maintain it with the string trimmer.
Subtiles when he starts edger: Oh..... Oh.. Oh.....Oh......[applause]......
Lol!
That's funny
Experience is the best teacher!!!!👍
I feel Like when I use a trimmer I get hit with way more rocks!
Stick edging is the way to go! I use a Stihl Kombi set up (motor head with several attachments) KM131 motor head ( It's all about more power,LOL) I find the curved edger extension helps me 2 ways; 1. I can see the edge a bit easier, because you are off to the side. 2. It feels more comfortable, easier to change positions and use one handed along sidewalks for large lawns. Only time I use a string edger would be for tall grass along areas I can not mow up to, like fences, Houses, decks etc..
I have all asphalt around my lawn so the stick edger would eat it up. They weren't too consistent with the straightness of the road and driveway lol
Grass Daddy you only edge with concrete! No pavers and no asphalt
I suppose the only way around that would be to pour low concrete curb between the grass and the asphalt driveway so you can have nicely edged lawn around the driveway. If you have an equipment rental place around your area, they might have a curb making machine (whatever you call them).
Ooooh that’s the worst, edging on an asphalt drive way, too painful lol
Impressed brother GOD BLESS your Business !! Love the vid
Thank you!
Any edger is going to potentially fling rocks and debris. We do have blade style edgers but generally we wont use those unless the property hasnt been edged ever or hasnt been edged in a very long time so there is a lot of soil that ends up getting removed. Also, there is more potential to do damage with a blade than trimmer line. I dont like to use the blades that often personally because I dont like the constant friction it puts onto the walkways/concrete. I prefer using the edgeit pro because it's connected to a trimmer already and I think it does an outstanding job. I see guys occasionally use a trimmer without a guard on it to edge but that to me is a bit too dangerous. Whatever the case, a blade edger is certainly a good tool to have.
Curved shaft edger works best for me. They spin faster and you get that nice clean cut. Stihl KM131, best edger I’ve used
Wear I work we used curved shaft edgers personally I think it's personal preference whether u use straight or curved shaft
Donovan Hollinger straight shafts almost always last longer
Thank you for taking the time to make this!!
Dude 4 hours later and my lawn isn't even finished mowing
Bro your best sticking to your lawn edger .
Bruh we can lay down lines as good as anyone. This was a rough video lol
Bahaha! Agreed!
I scooped up a nice commercial echo. 1 season old. $100. Best $ i spent time to retire the old walk behind. Much more room on trailer. Btw im a fanatic about a crisp edge...... Its my signature. Sets me apart from the blow n go guys...
I prefer to use an edger, I have tried edging with a trimmer and I have had some unsatisfactory results, I prefer to use a trimmer only for what it's intended for. I've noticed when you edge with a trimmer you go through trimmer line a lot faster. I use an edger because I found it to be quicker and easier. I also think it's a good thing to leave the deflectors on the trimmers for safety reasons.
It's just easier and looks way better and way cleaner with an edger
Bent shaft string trimmers cannot usually be used sideways and they have a shorter reach than straight shaft. Also, the head on a bent shaft turns the opposite direction, usually. The problem with straight shaft is, if you're under 5' 8", it's hard to use them without rubbing the head on the ground due to their length, thereby wearing down the head housing.
Nunya Biznis I'm 5'4 and I dont have a problem. I hate bent shaft. Worst thing I ever used. Haven't used one in over 7 years.
the 260 is what I use at work but I have a Stihl FS 70 and we don't edge much because most people here have gravel
It is such a pain in the ass edging a yard that is over grown and also hard dirt getting in the way from you getting between the edge of the sidewalk
Overgrown on the one line that's funny. Man I just got a real edger today and did it for the first time in this house and man it was 6 inches on each side worth of over grow and dirt that overtook the sidewalks.
Edger is easier on the back vs trimmer
Finally! the first UA-camr that I see how to edge the right way! Props to you!
Boom!
Just got a br450 Stihl blower it’s a beast!
That first cut im the spring, edger. After that nice crisp deep template is made i used the trimmer the rest of the mow season
