Artists on Nirvana and Grunge Rock (Pt.2)

- So what was “Grunge”? At the start, it was a joke. Then it became a simple description of a sound/attitude, as well as a Sub Pop hype promotional term. Ultimately, it became a quasi-genre of music based simply on bands’ Seattle origins. But whatever the meaning is, it’s clear that the term “grunge” has permanently linked those 80s and 90s northwest musicians in music history.

I love Jack Black, and how he cusses while sitting in front of Kung Fu Panda, a kids movie!
You should not rejoice in evil
@@chrismarple Killjoy. And you should've pointed out that its Kung Fu Panda 2.
! swearing so edgy !
Cazzo c entra??
@@mneugent7658 why does it matter which kung fu panda is ?😂 weird as
heavy metal meets the Beatles...What a PERFECT analogy.
It's funny because in one of Kurt's documentary about his life, back before Bleach, he would go around asking people if they thought mixing hard rock and punk with the Beatles was a good idea.
Both Ozzy and Kurt were huge Beatles fans. Of course Ozzy could hear the influence and understood what Kurt, Dave and Krist were doing.
Most of these guys are only focusing on Kurt. "Nirvana was incredible! Kurt was an amazing guitarist, singer, and songwriter! The drummer and bassist were okay, too." WTF!? People need to focus as Nirvana as a whole. Krist and Dave were extremely important to Nirvana. Nirvana wouldn't be what they turned out to be without Krist and Dave.
@AAAnt M Annnd, another bass player thrown under the buss
I LOVE LOVE LOVE DAVE. It is unhealthy how much I like him. But... Kurt was the key piece of Nirvana, the Dave and Krist were great, but Cobain was the soul
It’s the ever popular tortured artist effect, nothing we can do here. The masses will suck what they can out of Kurt and leave the other members to themselves.
@Fairuz Vlog nah
Kurt wrote everything. He was the guy
Imagine if kurt lived to hear ozzy ozbourne say he loves nirvana
@@egierzal2184 he was also a huge punk fan too.
@@thelilyfarrell I mean that’s why they made punk music they loved punk
@@xvaderxkiller5190 yeah nirvana was huge fans of punk and the beatles. especially for kurt the beatles and punk music was his influences.
When NIRVANA first came out I was in 8th grade and hated all the pop/hair band garbage out there....but when Kurt hit you understood that he was an outcast, just as we were...he wasn't the football captain or prom king...he wasn't cool or popular...and we felt HERE IS A GUY WHO UNDERSTANDS. AND WE MISS YOU SOO MUCH KURT. I remember being in homeroom when it was announced over that Channel 1 News we watched that "Lead Singer of NIRVANA and voice of a generation, Kurt Cobain was found dead of an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound to the head." Now we know different, but he's still gone.
"(He) knew how to make his guitar sound like a building falling down."
Excellent comparison, Moby.
A loud, crashing sound with structure.
Shaggy McGee great comment by Moby
That "bulding" is being torn down by a BOSS DS 2 😎
Shaggy McGee : Every bit the innovator for the guitar that Eddie was .
No, Kurt was exceptionally skilled on the guitar, tbh, only comparable to prince and jimmy hendrix imo
October 25, 1991 was the date of when Jack Black went to see Nirvana.
"You hear the troof" - Alicia Keys.
Why can't this happen again? Today's music is dominated by corporate shit. Something needs to come along and kick the commercial machine right in the balls
Edward Bliss Holy shit, yes, we so badly need something like that
Jajaja man. Nirvana and every other band you could know is commercial just because you know it.
Everything become commercial at the time you know about it.
Nirvana changed the game pure and simple. I was a freshman in dental school in New Orleans in the fall of 1991 when Smells Like Teen Spirit Came Out. I knew instantly that music had changed forever. I was proud. I'm a year younger than Kurt and a year older than Dave Grohl. I was proud and I understood the message on a visceral level. It captured the angst and anger of my generation perfectly at the perfect time. They were brilliant.
Awesome comment 👍💯
Lol a dental student commenting on the arts/culture. Nirvana didn’t change music. It was already changed years before and would of become what it was with or without Nirvana. All they were responsible for was being the first huge band that was of the new era. Janes addiction years before had some success.
BREAKING NEWS! Nirvana has more songs besides smells like teen spirit, come as you are, and heart shaped box!! WOW
*****
like drain you or lounge act? serve the servants?
Marisa CampbellI enjoy incesticide more than nevermind because its more garage-esque, but mostly because of dive
Marisa CampbellI enjoy incesticide more than nevermind because its more garage-esque, but mostly because of dive
Dude, I love DIVE also .. It's really moody and powerful ain't it?? I've always thought it was better than any song from nevermind , except SLTS
On a Plain is awesome.
I love Ozzy and his quote on Nirvana was great :D
Real recognizes real. Ozzy( king of metal) doesnt diss him, thats class. Unlike the hair metal bands who couldnt last cause they sucked.
Ozzy did become a hair metal artist around the mid-to-late 80s though
yes, it made perfect sense!
Its odd that hair metal vs grunge is so heavily argued when you see guys like Slash and C.C. Deville both of whom were members of the biggest hair bands in the worlds sing praises of grunge's biggest band.
I think the grunge/ metal wall has been broken down now. Its all rock and roll and thats a great thing
Grunge vs Hair Metal was never a thing. All the big hair metal bands got grunge bands to go on tour and open for them so the fans would integrate it was just Kurt Cobain hated Axl Rose
Guns was never hair metal
@@dunkinlay452 I mean debatable. I think Axl Rose as a person was hair metal.
@@mivvy3182 nothing says hair metal like It's So Easy and Mr. Brownstone. Or Estranged and Coma. Cuz all those hair bands wrote songs just like that.
The fact that Jack Black saw live at the paramount, how are you that lucky, to see that specific concert, and to be as successful as he is, damn man
He said it was the night bill graham had died an he died oct 25 1991 . Paramount was on the 31st of that october but maybe it was already recorded a couple days before ? Idk
@@jfromstate8581 I actually don’t think it was recorded before Halloween
Kurt says in the beginning of the paramount show “happy Halloween”
And Dave talks about people not being in costume in between songs
For me, Nirvana is the most influential band I've ever listened to. I wasn't around in the 90's and I kinda grew up with today's music but then I started listening to Nirvana and it felt so different, I mean it was different for me because I would have never seen myself liking it. I'm really musically involved with instruments and I've always sang but Nirvana inspired me to dig so much deeper into music so it bothers me a lot to hear people say that they're overrated because if you listen to their rare songs and dig more into Kurt's art then you can really see how much raw talent he, krist and dave had. I think I'll always love Nirvana for that
Ive never said Nirvana was the greatest band of all time, but are my personal favorite. No band touched me like that ever again. Totally organic, cant really explain it
Well said
Same here brother!
Some very touching stuff here from idols Kurt would have loved.
Volume UP then down then UP then down....
COMPRESSION IS YOUR FRIEND AND THE ANWSER lol
Even Henry Rollins digs Nirvana, awesome \m/
Most grunge guys praised Black Flag with Henry, at least Kurt did as far as I know
José Aquino right on
@@joseaquino8773 my war was the most impactful album for grunge.not the pixies. Melvins sabbath black flag a lot of post punk gang of four butthole surfers joy division scratch acid bands like that.
I love how Jack Black promotes Zep at every given chance..rock on Jack.
it was not until i heard Territorial Pissings that i went, oh these guys are 4 reAL.
Long story short, people like Nirvana
Wow. Ozzy loves 'em too! And Henry Rollins. Even those who are very difficult to please.
42? more like number 1
The Pixies, Sonic Youth and Replacements had already been making music
Husker Du, The Wipers, Fugazi, Dinosaur Jr, Big Black, Butthole Surfers,The Jesus Lizard.
Jack Black: I liked Nirvana before Nevermind, brilliant :')
love how jack black says they are so fucking good on a kongfu panda interview
"Smells like Teen Spirit?" Maybe my 40th fav Nirvana song...Tells u how good they r
There could not have been a better ending to this. (Unless they wanted to roll Jack Black's little acapella cover of Polly at the end, that might have been even better.)
Never heard a bad Nirvana song..Then they do Unplugging album? Just a beautiful time to be a young American in early-mid 90s.
Part 1??

thanks for uploading this man.
I'm glad they told us the definition of 'insouciant'
Man, I hate Moby. What a pretentious douche.
Growing up in the 90’s there were certain albums (CD’s) that I had, and ALL of my friends had:
-Nevermind (Nirvana)
-Ten (Pearl Jam)
-The black album (Metallica)
-Dookie (Green Day)
-Use your illusion 1&2 (guns and roses)
-MTV unplugged in NY (Nirvana)
-Dirt (Alice in chains)
-Superunknown (soundgarden)
-Foo Fighters (self titled)
-In Utero (Nirvana)
Blue album? Siamese dream??rage against the machine???
My first Nirvana experience was when i was 14 i was in a pub after a football game ,In Bloom came on the tele i was like wow amazing video song and that killer riffs was like a defining moment in my formative years,30 years later just as awesome, love you forever Kurt. Rip legend.
The hell it was.
I've always been amazed that Drain You wasn't the biggest single.
Nirvana was basically the 90’s Beatles they sound really similar and they both changed the world
"And knew how to make his guitar sound like a building falling down".
Pure sincerity in the art makes it last forever.
I was thinking more like Polly, Rape Me, Blew, Floyd the Barber.....
School, Aneurysm, Radio Friendly Shifter Unit
Where is part 1?
Brandon Joshua youtube music politics but i have those videos i tried to reuplaod it it got deleted but i will put in some work and reupload part 1 and make a part 6

Love the bit with Jack Black. He's awesome. bLEACH!!!
I really enjoyed listening to jack blacks take one nirvana. Such an honest dude
Ozzy Heavy metal meets the beatles lol Hell Yea!
I love what Moby said! Lol, never thought id ever say that o.O
So it’s been 30 years since grunge changed the game...I was 20 in 1991 so I feel very lucky to have witnessed that but I thought that sometime between then & now another crop of killer bands would’ve come outta somewhere but I’m still waiting 🤷🏼♂️......honestly I don’t see it happening but 🤞
Won't happen rock is dead culturally
I know everyone is mad about everyone only talking about nevermind and heart shaped box and smells like teen spirit but it's not about that they think that's their only album it's about the fact that album and those songs specifically launched a turning point in music forever
"Nirvana was like an, uh, ah, musical enema for me.....I LOVED IT!"
wheres part 1?
thanx a lot 4 this videos.
I love how those 2 guitar notes in smells like teen spirit musically just sound like "Bow Down" right?
Kurt’s music and style come off as effortless. Yet he actually had it all down to a science. Even the pea green sweater. All by design.
When I first heard nirvana years ago or last year I always heard of nirvana but never took a listen I was always listening to rock bands like Linkin Park three days grace weezer and all other bands that we all know but Kurt voice was like an angel looking for a way out of reality while being trapped with his demons trying to get away from the music life that he wanted but not like this y’all know nirvana was like a once in a lifetime band that you will never hear again or will have to go and listen because the world changed so much music wise and reality wise but honestly to many people Kurt lyrics were basic to them and simple but to me they were amazing with a depth to it and everytime I listen to nirvana or kurt voice he reminds me to stop being a fake stop hiding the real you and let it all out if y’all know what I mean
Kou Just Kooling most of those bands you mentioned are just nirvana rip offs
they're doing it to market to more people. In a marketing stand point it makes sense to only play singles because you can bring in the people who don't really listen to Nirvana. For example someone is watching TV he switches to MTV and sees a documentary about Nirvana, he hears Smells Like Teen Spirit which he recognizes from the radio so he watches it. If he hears a song like Blew playing he wouldn't watch because he doesn't know the song.
Vous avez toujours été parfaits quelque l'épisode de votre groupe!!!
And if ''Jeremy'' was the song everyone talked about and used in documentary's, they'd say the SAME thing they say about Smells. People just bashing something because it was revolutionary and important.
Was thinking the same damned thing, like it's almost a relief to hear other tracks from their library...
Incesticide is my favourite album. It makes me happy.
I was 12 years old when first heard the name of the band and 14 when I first heard their music and it was after Cobain died.I really loved SLTS and Come as you are later all of their songs
They will never be forgotten.
youll inevitably be pressing the replay button when its over, just to hear it again...
I've been waiting to hear what Rollins thinks of Kurt.
Slash should be the next Star Trek captain
True statement! Im bringing it back
If I hear Smells Like Teen Spirit one more time...
that's so deep, man.
Anyone notice how they censored Kurt's middle finger but they didn't censor Jack Black saying 'They were so fucking good'?
5:48 "Nirvana was just like a musical enema for me"
i love ozzy !heavy metal meets the beatles hahaha
I want you to imagine how that Kung Fu Panda is the one talking in Jacks interview
Ozzy said it best "heavy metal meet the beatles"
Yep
"Undulating Mass of Pleasure" New band name - CALLED IT!
Kevin bacon?
Wtf? Where is part 1? Hate it when this happens
Dude, zip all of these up, including part one, and upload it on a torrent site. I haven't seen this special for many many years. It's bullshit that part 1 is blocked, but the rest is able to view.
Such a great thing to post, but the type of thing that skippiness ruins totally.
I grew up in the 80's and yes it had their time for music we had fun and that's what it was.
The early 90's had a certain serious raw sound and vibe it will always be remembered for, too bad it did not last any longer. A lot of people I know did not care for that genre but I loved the lyrics and the sound, yes some was depressing to some people but it had meaning and I could relate to it.
As for these mainstream celebrities in the video, what do they know maybe they should be asking the real fans of the music what they got from it.
As for me there were some great bands to come out of it that are my favorites and I still listen to their old and new music. Not the one hit wonder shit of mainstream music that still plays to this day.Post Millennium crap.I do give credit to the Seattle bands of the early 90's that still survived and can still play even though they have evolved.
Jack Black at the end is priceless
No part 1? Damn!
its blocked by yt
Grrrrr, that sux! Why only part 1?
(Not that I want ALL of them blocked! I'm just wondering.)
@@DaveLampton no idea. Maybe the song teen spirit is longer than 15 seconds in the backgroud..shame
That's what I thought on Nirvana "wow, this is different".
1. In Utero
2. Unplugged in NY
3. Bleach
4. Nevermind
we needed nirvana.
He took the whole culture in really different direction
I love Nirvana - Ozzy Osbourne.. Hell yeah!
Why is part one not posted?!
Nirvana 42!?!?!? REALLY
Kinda ironic hearing CC Deville and Dee Snider saying that they like Nirvana even though grunge ruined their careers.
Dee Snyder really wasn't that popular to begin with
+almighty_luigi And CC Deville ruined his own career.

The biggest revolution I've ever seen in my life back then it happened a few times qiot riot 84 van Halen 77 and nirvana 91 those times are the most memorable of my life seeing the culture of tge world change I don't think any happened like that ever again because people literally went from preppy mc hammer jock to grunge overnight you couldn't even recognize some people it was crazy something my kid will never experience is a great rock revolution
WHERE'S PART 1???!!!???
I was there for BLEACH TOO
Musical enema describes them perfectly.
My first love of music Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Alice In Chains
Music has given me so much like these bands I can't wait to give back.
My band is building up and our demos are on soundcloud.com/all-impetus
If you like the music stay in touch, Thank you :)
lol jack black said fucking on the fung fu panda interview wow nice!!!
So many people saying that they don't see why or how grunge got so popular. Well grunge got popular because it spoke to the largest of the cliques out there.....Rejects (pretty much). If you think about it rejects are everywhere. Either by parents or the "populars" (who are also rejected in some way)
The "populars" grow up to be "rejects".
NIRVANA was a 3 lead member band all of them has a Charisma for their own set of abilities
A voice and a composition full of desperation, a very powerful voice and " come as you are" an honest composition, but listening Simon Lebon saying that.... Most of them were asked to say so.
I love jack black shirt
