    The 4 cylinder models don’t come with a factory hitch because it’s not intended to be used for towing. The V6 has almost double the available HP. Reasons to get the I-4 vs the v6 are 1) lower cost 2) slightly better fuel economy 3) reliability.

    • @TheUnrestricted
      @TheUnrestricted  3 роки тому +15

      Yeah true about the tow hitch but I would have to disagree with fuel economy and reliability. From my experience I have owned both the 4 and the 6 and the 4 struggles to accelerate when needed; free way, passing people, up hills and this results in the Gas mileage being basally the same. For reliability it the v6 doesn’t struggle and this could result in it being more reliable down the line. Either way both are the same truck and the best truck by far

    I own a 21 4cyl automatic transmission. After 20,000 miles my mpg improved quite a bit. City driving in a hilly city 17-20mpg. Flat roads commuting 32-33 mpg. Reliability is priceless for these truck 2,7s and the transmissions. I commute in Los Angeles county which is hard on all vehicles. I have never burned any oil.

    Just note that a 1 mile test will not give any kind of meaningful fuel mileage. It just gave you the amount of fuel needed to initially move the vehicle. According to Toyota the 4cylinder gets 1 to 2 mpg better gas mileage when compared to the same trim level. Else I liked your video.

    I just wish they offered the 4cyl with the crew cab 4x4 :( I know the economy isn't any better and the power is definitely worse, but it's a simpler and more proven design that I feel like is in the Legendary Toyota Reliability tier compared with the newer and more complex v6 that is probably just Regular Reliable tier.

      Contrary to popular belief, tonneau covers are negligible at best when it comes to gas mileage if not worse. There's a pocket of air on the bed that helps with aerodynamics. With a cover on, that pocket is gone and the air starts to push down on the cover.

That little motor did fine, it was gaps in the gear ratios, up shifting so early, and cruise control that I couldnt stand. I even put 4.88 gears in it. I pulled 2500lb's across country with it, it did fine.

    I have a 2nd gen tacoma 4x4 2.7l and i get 21 to 22 mpg, calculated exactly by an app I use. Point is, i drive mostly highway, but its a highway in northeast pa that is one of the steepest grades from sea level to 1900 ft and its 40 miles of climing hills and i drive 75 to 80 mph each way (thats not an exaggeration, the post limit is 65) and my rpms are steady as 2200 to 2500 going 75 to 80, occasionally if i try to maintain 75 up some of the steeper hills it will get into a gear where the rpms will spike to 3000 to 3200 never higher than that.
    I also change my oil every 4500 to 5000k miles (idc if its excessive as its the most important thing to me) my truck has 145k miles. Ive done all the maintenance myself. Recently to include swapping the old 140k miles suspension for a 3rd gen trd offroad suspension with only 5k miles for 200 bucks, that included front struts, rear shocks, ucas, and rear leaf springs n i bought new sway bar links cause they were 30 bucks a piece why not while im taking em off and it rides amazing compared to what it was. Also lifted the rear about 2 inches n the front an inch, so it has a very stock 3rd gen look to it n ride quality its like ur in a 3rd gen, n my gf has a 2020 sx so i know what a stock 3rd gen drives like lol, im telling ya its amazing esp for 200 bucks.
    Ive also changed every fluid when i bought it at 110k miles ive kept up with this, n just recently 145k did the difs n tranfer case and a drain and fill for trans to keep it fresh im going to continue that trend every other oil change, prob worthless but whatever.
    Its been in north east pa for almost 10 years and its in great shape for a vehicle up here. Toyota did a great job on this frame

    The V6 appeared to have half a tank of gas more than the 4cyl, which is a good amount of weight, which affects performance.

    Had a 1999 SR-5 4X4 Extra cab with he 2.7L I 4 and 5 speed manual. It finally died at 376,000 miles. Going up the steep mountain grades, my motto was "Yep! I only have 4 cylinders!" I think since the truck is a 4 door truck. It should have a 6 cylinder engine. And a manual transmission or an automatic transmission depending on your preference instead of Toyota doing the decision for you. Because I don't want an automatic transmission. I want to decide what gear I'm in. The shifting of the gears is my problem. I don't mind.

    I want smaller vehicle, reliability, power, and fuel economy. Mpg isn’t that impressive for either. I guess so much for fuel economy then lol. I wish they sold a two door tundra. I would get that in an instant!! The tundras they got now are just too big. Tacoma looks difficult to get into though. I want power because I’m tired of being tailgated when I get into the highway. I have a 4 cylinder now. I was gonna go EV this time but I was interested in the Chevy bolt and well… you know that story lol. Now I guess I gotta stick with a good Ol fashion gas engine. But something easy to work on myself perhaps. Not a car fix it guy but the car I have now is almost impossible to understand and too tight. Is the v8 engine on a tundra easy to mess with? I’m talking like fluid changes like coolant, transmission, engine oil etc. basic maintenance changes etc. I look at my vehicle now and just say to myself I will take it to the dealer instead lol. That was the reason why I wanted to go EV. NO maintenance needed they say.
