Gaming Sins' Everything Wrong With Wolfentstein: The Old Blood: • Video
"Wolfenstein: Old Blood" is the standalone prequel DLC to last years "Wolfenstein: New Order." MachineGames uses the same engine here, and it feels just as good as it did in "New Order."
The game's story is interesting and stands on its own without "New Order," The game is separated into two parts. The first one, "Rudi Jäger and the Den of Wolves," does a good job tying in with the main game storyline. The second one is more of a side adventure. It's quirky and different from the atmosphere already established in "New Order." You'll be fighting some Nazi zombies in the second half, and in general feels like some Indiana-Jones-style-adventuring.
This game is definitely worth a $20 purchase, especially if you enjoy trying the harder difficulties, and if you like finding the various collectibles. The game is 8 chapters, while "New Order" was 16. In many ways, it feels like you're getting half the size of the original game for one third if the price. Gun play feels lively and powerful. There is a nice balance between gun fights and stealth. Overall the game is fun to play through. The story is better in the main game, if only because it felt like a more complete experience with much more character development. Nonetheless, the story here is much better than 95% of other similar style story-based-DLC.

the way they did rudi's character was really good. things like..his father died of electrocution and he uses electricity on his enemies...he hated his farther, as evidence in rudi's letter from his mother. He uses electricity on his enemies psychologically to watch his father die over and over in other people. also his love for dogs over humans due to a serious lack of trust in people from childhood trauma. I totally love it when game designers put in the effort to establish complex characters like him.
Complex character? Haha, the fuck are you even on about? A couple of 30 seconds worth of useless cutscenes and somehow we have the most developed and complex character in the entire game? He gets you couple of times, you get him by instantly stabbing him in the head like you always do before anyone can open their mouths and say something more than some shitty jokes or "I'll kill you" or any other, proper character development. There's no complexity in this game as everything is so bad and so dumbed down that even cod has a better storyline.
I actually almost felt bad when I killed him.

This guy's had pipes through his leg, electrocuted, stabbed in the hand, had beams fall on him, shot multiple times, bitten by cyborg-ish dogs, (and in the present game), been burned, stabbed in the chest, pulverized numerous times, and had shrapnel lodged in his head for nearly twenty years........God, Health Care Benefits must've gone a long way back then : /

This and "The New Order" are arguably some of the best games I've ever played. I think Bethesda and MachineGames should be commended on their ability to 1) take an old franchise that had been mostly abandoned, 2) make it something deeper and richer than just a one-note FPS with just a weak premise and no real story, and 3) inject it with some real acting and life. This was well done indeed. Can't wait for "The New Colossus"!

Because I played 'The New Order' before this, the ending just feels bittersweet to me. It's hopeful that they're gonna go after the big guy to go end the war, but at the same time you know what happens next :(

So if Wolfenstein 3D is a prequel to this game (which has apparently been hinted at throughout the reboots), then wouldn't that mean B.J. has already been inside the castle? In Wolfenstein 3D he escapes from the castle's prison, that would mean he basically knows the layout of the castle since he's had to make his way from the inside to the outside.
Uh, this game starts a new story line, started from Wolfenstein 2009 where had to deal with Nazi in Egypt due to the increase of supernatural activities if I'm not mistaken. And the Wolfenstein 3D is explained as BJ's nightmares.
@@alamo134 There's a news paper that talks about Hitler fighting a terrorist in Castle Wolfenstein and a post card where Hitler talks about being inside of a machine built by Strauss.
Pretty sure the events of 3D ar still canon, they took place before these games.
