The WORST BLIZZARD We've Ever Had (Wyoming Bomb Cyclone)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- We've had some blizzards since we started our homestead, but this one takes the cake! My hands were full keeping the fire going & and animals cared for... Meteorologists are calling it a "bomb cyclone" and it was NUTS!

The truth about homesteading in Wyoming! www.theprairiehomestead.com/2015/12/homesteading-in-wyoming.html
I love heating with wood, especially on days like that, toasty warm.. ☺
The Prairie Homestead thank you for Sharing this video that is lot of snow really deep very interesting
I live ten miles East of Devil's Tower...This storm was absolutely nothing in comparison to the 1984 blizzard we had....You could WALK onto your rooftop in the snow drifts that amassed in that storm...was insane....I did have some 5 foot drifts in this one, I have two nine year old German Shepherd babies, and we went out into this storm all day and played...it was a little cold at first, wind was pretty wicked, but all in all, not to bad...the snow was really weird though....kind of had a consistency of a fine flour and sand combination...made it very difficult to break trail in...but I have to admit....I am originally from Alaska, and I LOVE the snow storms...It does pain my heart to see what this storm did East and South of here though...I just read that over 1 million calves were lost just in Nebraska alone...I know a large portion of South Dakota was hit pretty hard too....
Tetelestai Paid in Full I am not surprise South Dakota have blizzard I Wise UA-cam channel early this pass week have it bad
Hi I’m from the UK we don’t really get weather like this maybe once ever 10 years maybe.
Hope you guys are ok and all the animal are too
You'll never need to worry about cutting the wrong size, spin in circles or waste time trying to figure out what goes where... With ryan's detailed shed plans ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxb2mhCug-GkCWrq69Ce2I0nM0D4QpxAqu , it makes building sheds a breeze - just like putting lego bricks together! You'll be able to create the kind of shed, your neighbors and other woodworkers will secretly envy (while mumbling nice job under their breath).
Holy Smokes! This is just a continual confirmation that you Wyoming folks are the toughest in America :)
Is alaskans not more tough lol
It's not for every one to live in WY I assure you of that - if you didn't grow up in that climate u won't last long - most can only handle 21 days on average at best then bug out - I've worked in some of the hardest areas of the country - WY was the hardest it's not for everyone, it will test your faith to the bone
Not really
This reminds me of the blizzards described by Laura Ingalls Wilder in "The Long Winter." Brutal! Stay safe.
Lol me too!
You sure get around didn't I just subbed to you? 😁 👋
Looks like we have similar interests. (: @@connersadreamer38
I've always wanted to be in an actual blizzard, because of those books.
Yeah, I remember reading the "Little House on the Prairie" books. Very sweet times. So wonderful to know about history and how people lived approximately 100 years ago. Here in my home town there is a historic cemetery. I drive by it all the time and wonder, ""Lord, tell me please about the people buried there." -Tom
You should have been there back in '49. Now there was a blizzard and a half! Our place east of Cheyenne had drifts over the porch and it was so bad that the cars couldn't make it through and the folks had to hike to the nearest ranch house to survive. Ranchers rose to the occasion and opened their homes and hearts to all comers. Good luck digging out, y'all!
I've heard stories about that one!!
Look up the blizzard of 1949 WY PBS put it out some time ago and it's on YT. Much bigger and longer. This one is a pup compared to that one! This one didn't stop trains that one did.
Looking that one up - sounds horrible!
I just looked it up - looks like a double bomb cyclone. It was the mother load of blizzards!
I loved the pbs documentary on this blizzard!
When the dog looks out for the first time is always priceless😃😃😃
Dogs, the animals, are precious. They are such company.
Absolutely amazing. Hats off to you for being so upbeat about things. I appreciate that you made this video to share with us, despite your workload.
WOW! This Lady is so awesome in caring for her animals on her land. And her dog is awesome too. Such a champ with that kind of weather keeping up with its owner. God bless these farmers and their family.
From one Wyoming girl to another... I feel your pain!! It was a horrendous winter!
From Northern Vermont - WOW, that was a blizzard indeed. So glad your power stayed on and people and animals are okay.
Ayyyyahhh....can't get

Brings back to the old days....I mean really a family togetherness and FUN!!! god bell all of your FAMILY!!!!

I like your garden you look like you have a good crop of snow this year ! 😄👍
Lol
🤣🤣🤣
Yup, thats difficult to get that much snow, and in the right color, the garden looks good,,
Bumper crop of snow peas.
👍😃
You all are absolutely amazing!! 😳 Y’all are the “real deal”!!! 💪🏻
Kudos to you BIG TIME for your determination and fortitude!!!
I just love your channel 💚💛🤎
Omgosh that's crazy so glad you all are alright be safe GOD Bless.💞🤗
It was a few weeks ago for our blizzard, here in Western Montana, but it was similar. 27” in 24 hours, more than any storm in the last 20 years. And it has lasted for weeks! We are melting now during the days, so we are about to transition from ice & snow to mud & muck. We don’t have cows, but our neighbor does & he’s been on constant patrol all winter. The calves are pretty cool to watch! Good luck with your storm recovery!
What a beautiful homestead.! You are truly blessed...and a very hard worker.
Your animals are precious.
Jet Set ...agreed. Keep warm, or try to. Looks very peaceful and good for the mind body and soul.God bless you and yours....all on two legs and four, too. Take care, spring will get here soon. So I am told. Slainte. From PhillyPA 🕊🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅
Why isn't your hoodie not over your head if it's that cold, an ear muffs to
Praise the Lord your 🐑 s & Cows are doing fine, this is Missionary from California
Your such a brave woman. I’m terrified of being alone at night. My husband has a lot of cats that sleep on the porch, so with the cats and my 2 dogs I never have to be alone
Man. That’s craziness!! Glad ya’ll are safe.. and warm! 💕
Your dogs running in the deep snow with the sun in the backround made my heart happy x
I was born and raised in Wyoming, I've had to climb out of the second floor window to then spend all day shoveling the front porch to open the front door, it gets bad know doubt.
That sounds like a dream come true for me
LifeonCrack me to
Stay warm and safe. I hope you are keeping a journal for your future generations to read!
THE HISTORY OF THE HOMESTEAD ERA (1860'S); DURING THE WINTERS THEY WOULD RUN A ROPE BETWEEN THE HOUSE AND BARN. IF THE ROPE WASN'T USED ONE WOULD GET LOST IN THE BLIZZARDS
Wow..never thought of that..
Yessir. The bomb cyclone that hit colorado ended up killing someone who had become disoriented on his own land and froze.
John Doe we still do that. Ours is a quarter inch cable.
Jesusa De Leon We still do that. Ours is a quarter in cable.
I'm in my late late 70's. I've seen some of those snowstorms
I wish there was a way that we could collect that snow and send to other parts of the world in drought. I live in Australia and we need water. I'm proud that you cared so much for your animals. Kudos
I like your army of mice catchers. Got farm need cats.
You might check with your local animal shelter. Here in Oklahoma City, our Humane Society has a program called 'Barn Buddies' for people with acreage and a barn can adopt barn cats.
Your cats are BEAUTIFUL !!
Wow Jill. Kinda like the blizzard Pittsburgh had in 1993. Glad you never lost power. I think I need a snow blower like you have. LOL. Love it!
It's the neighbors-- super thankful he came up! Saved us a lot of digging. :)
I was just checking out youtube & saw this one. It's good to know that those cows were ok, I'm an animal love. When I first saw that part with the cows covered in snow I sort of panic but what you said that just proved how well their protected from the cold. I've always worried about the cows & horses when there are these type of storms. But they still look so cold, poor babies...
Loved seeing the dogs running around in the snow together, havin' a blast, just like some kids do, in snow storms.
Sure wish you'd thought to sweep the snow off the cows, though - especially the little ones.
The cats were sweet & all so beautiful too! Are they siblings?
Loved seeing the interiors of the barns too!
Subbed.
Dogs in the snow crack me up.
Cows thought you were nuts talking to yourself. Hope the little ones are doing well. 🐂🐄
Animals like to hear a pleasant and familiar voice of kind people.
WOW! That's quite the storm. I remember a storm like that when I lived in Oregon. I'm glad you and the animals made it through ok. I love how your dog knew right where you were going, looking back and you to make sure you're coming and how much fun they had playing in the snow.
WOW! That's some powerful storm! Hope all the heifers and their babies made it through the blizzard ok!! Y'all stay safe! Never experienced anything like this in North Carolina! Thanks for sharing!
When heifers have calves they become cows.
Thank you for the incredible opportunity of seeing nature and appreciation of sharing with people what it truly looks like.
I'd endure that weather just for the ability to see the scenery.
If we gad more hard working people like you nobody would be on welfare. Your work ethic to take care of the animals is inspiring and really honorable.
Wow, that’s crazy. I enjoy your channel so much. Greetings from Alaska 💛
So we lived on a ranch..for over 15yrs..our cats and dogs were all hard working...they loved it and they all had extra long happy lives..our dogs would refuse to stay inside if we were out doing our chores even in a storm...your doing a fantastic 👏 job guys
OMG....those cat's were very healthy & awesome looking! Very furry, so I imagine they stay warm as well...lol!
I would love to have one...lol!
🐱🐈🦁🐾🐅🐆🐯
very eye opening how much work it is to take care of farm animals, gardens, homesteading, etc. I admire that so much, you do a great job!
This is the kind of blizzards that my father talked about on the farm in North Dakota. He hated snow for his entire life.
WOW! That is definitely something that I have never seen before! So glad that you guys are o.k. and didn't lose power! Hoping that it warms up nicely there to get rid of all the snow! 🌼
You know your in Wyoming, when a farmer has a tractor with a BIG SNOW BLOWER on it.
The cows look beautiful. The snow is so white. Love your cats, and dogs. I'm an animal lover. I like winter, but for a little time.
Milk cows fully deserve spoiling
for sure!
After watching this video, I have nothing to worry about, compared to where you live and what you have to deal with in a heavy snowstorm. God bless and keep you well and safe, and all of your animals too. I'll be back to check on you later.
At the knowledge of bad weather, bring your animals in to safety.
Diana Vance , my thoughts exactly. My animals are always top priority. Prepare to bed then down well before bad weather. In the beginning of the video When she said there’s a cow out there.... I couldn’t keep watching.
I would’ve thought the same thing as well. And I’m not a farmer or someone that have any farm animals
Exactly. Heifers should not be calving in a blizzard
I remember winter snow storms like that as a child love it haven't seen it it in about 4 years 😩 but still love it as an adult
I was born in Jackson almost seven decades ago. I have definitely experienced what you're going through right now. We had a blizzard in 78 and I went into labor I couldn't get to the hospital and the doctor couldn't get to me. That was the most awesome delivery I've ever had made me choose to have home birth forevermore after that. I have warm and fond memories of the 78 blizzard...living in north Texas now and I sure do miss the snow.
We had cyclone flooding here in Nebraska. About 3"of rain melting 2feet of snow overnight. It was crazy. Worst flooding in 50, years.
I think that would be a true definition of a snow cyclone. In and gone!
This is so surreal to me, as someone who lives in North Carolina. We had some snow in like January? It was like an inch or two and turned to ice pretty much overnight and that cancelled schools and closed stores and everything. I'm looking at this, and I think there is more snow on the ground than if you add all the snow I've seen in my life.
I'm glad you survived and all your animals are just fine! Stay safe and warm!!
OMG YOU'RE SO PRETTY . JUST HAD TO REPLY WHEN I SEE PRETTY GAL.
I was in Wyoming as a small child, early 1950's. We had one that drifted the snow clear up and over the top of our single story house. The neighbor's front yard was completely clear of snow. I guess it was all on top of our house. I was too young to ever know just how many inches it was but looking back I'd guess it was more than 30 inches total, with blinding winds. When it stopped the cold dropped in, causing a thick crust of that snow to freeze pretty solid. They called the soldiers from the military base in Cheyenne to go out and dig people free from their houses, after they dug themselves out that is.
I love a good snowstorm. That is as long as I have a fire in the fireplace,a big picture window, hot soup cooking on the stove, a cup of hot Apple cider, and horduerves arranged on the coffee table. Last, play a nice romantic DVD in the player. ( like: The Holiday ) Boyfriend is optional. 😚😍😊😁❤💖💙💚💕 Yes, well I'm a teeny bit spoiled. Thx for sharing. 👏
I decided to put the fan in the window and bring in some chili 70° air to the house while I watch this video so that I can feel the chilly air and empathize
Lol thats such a cool idea
Oh my goodness! That’s some serious snow. I bet you are ready for spring!!
Omg. I am in sunny Florida right now. I admire y'all for keeping your homestead, and all it entails. What a great cyclone in Wyoming 2019. Good luck and be safe, bless and keep your faith.
Had to put my socks back on while I watched this. Could almost feel the wind blowing the snow. Burrrrrr.
Wow!Way to finish up Winter; hope you have a great Spring.
When you sign on to a life of being a farmer or a rancher you're definitely signing on to a "no excuses" lifestyle. The well being of your livestock and securing your equipment always come first and with today's weather forecasting and advanced warnings there's never a reason for not being fully prepared.
Beautiful weather from Phoenix Arizona
This does not even compare to the Blizzard they had years ago then the snow and drifts trapped people and livestock in their homes for over a month . Was so cold livestock froze to death standing up looking like statues had to drop hay from air planes and take bulldozers to clear the roads . This effected WY. CO and NE as I remember think Roosevelt was president but not sure . The armed forces had to help and so did locals Cheyenne was also snowed in do your research.
LOL Dogs were like "whoo-hoo Blizzard!!!"
FEED THEM ANIMAL BABIES! LOL they are in good hands
Thank you for all the facts of how the cows live and the heifers and babies. It's great to know your good and you run a great Homestead 😄
~~~ Your family and Homestead are on my daily prayer list...I have been able to come to Wyoming and yes it was for myself an interesting joy. Snow is one of the joys in my life and I loved your video for today . Please be safe and keep safe ......most of all to you GOD''S JOY......
Wow!!!, what a life. I really enjoyed this video because it made me think of the “what if’s”. I pray that you have great abundant crops. Thank you for sharing
You apparently weren't around in the 1970's working the oil fields near Rawlins. You haven't seen anything this time around! Just wait!
Thom Fisher grew up in Sheridan and Jackson. 1978 and 1982 made this look like flurries!
The lady was very surprised to see how much snow came in through a small crack at the bottom of the door. In the documentary about the blizzard of 49 in Wyoming, it showed just as much snow that came in through a guys key hole. It was interesting to watch.
Oh. My. Gracious! My heart goes out to you hard workers! Without farmers, I would not have the grain that I need for milling into flour to bake my sourdough breads!
Yes!
Wow.....
I can almost smell homemade bread now 🤤
If my home is stocked and prepared. Pets and the animals are safe. Kids and family nuzzled in, I'm good and any blizzard doesn't scare me. Being unprepared on every level, noooo thanks!!!
Hi Jill , we have had the same type of storms here in VT. Sometimes for three days!
Then we shovel ourselves out and find the wood pill to get ready for the next. We haven't had those kind of storms of late.
Glad your safe and warm.
Jo Jo in VT
I've got a brother in Rock Springs, and I've got to say, it takes grit to live in Wyoming. Those snow drifts are crazy. Glad you dug out.
The only blizzard I like is at Dairy Queen ! 😊
John Roberts you must be from the south
@@nataliedeyton6829 No actually I live in wyoming ! 😁
Yeah ! 🇺🇸
Enjoy!
@@johnroberts9560 Hi John, we are considering a move to Wyoming. What is the school system like there?
Grew up in Mn, blizzards of 65, 74, 79 were tough! Still living in MN! Waiting for a bigger one yet! ha
That's a lot of snow! Think you just talked me out of moving there 😂😂😂
Meanwhile she talked me in to moving in 😂
I’m from Massachusetts and we get some pretty intense blizzards but I can only think of maybe 2 storms that could match that one, and I know from experience that it’s always worse then it looks on camera, but the proof is in that massive drift infront of your door, Definitely a very intense blizzard
I"m here in Western Nebraska, and I said the same thing - "worse I ever lived thru" . Good luck!
My father in law is in Chadron.....on his old homestead raising cattle. I talked to him the night of the blizzard and he's a tough old man but he said it was the worst he has ever ever seen!!!!! He didn't lose any cattle but so many many did....millions lost I guess. It is just terrible.
I'm in Nebraska(eastern, near the flooding), you guys keep getting snow. Today , even
Takes me back to my fond memories of my childhood in MT. 😍
That's a serious farm dog. I'm surprised it didn't turn around and go back in the house.
My dad always thought you warmed critters from the inside out. Feed them to survive the cold weather.
5:52 I seriously thought you were going to say. ‘That mound is the cow 🐮 ‘. 😂😂😂. Glad it wasn’t.
Bless your courage. Bless you precious animals. The weather has gone completely Bonzi.
Wow, I can't believe how closely your Heeler resembles mine! I've never seen one as tall and with similar markings as mine. Moses was the only one in his litter to be born without a tail. He LOVES the snow and cold too.
Reminds me of 1978 and 1983 in Indiana....drifts so tall, you could build tunnels you could walk through.
I just said that. '78 was nasty, so was 79. 77, 76, 75... brrrrrr. We moved!
brings back childhood memories growing up in Western PA. Huge snow drifts in our yard. :-)
we have had a couple of those Bomb Cyclones here in Buffalo, NY- THEY HIT HARD AND FAST---- altho i never heard of a bomb cyclones ever in my life until last year............smh
Thats because its a new name they just made up to scare everyone.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! I usually don't like anything "wintery", but I have to admit, this was a good one. I'm originally from Michigan, so I've seen enuf winter to last me the rest of my life. I'm too old to homestead now, but it was something I wanted to do when I was younger, so I really enjoy your vids. Don't worry, you'll always make it! You've got it knocked, youngster! You all have the "right stuff"!
Thanks Lisa!
Thanks for sharing how dramatic (potentially traumatic) this was for your homestead - takes a lot to live on the edge and even more to share it effectively. Much appreciation!
🧡
WOW! THAT'S CRAZY! I DON'T KNOW IF I COULD LIVE IN THAT COLD WEATHER!!!!
God bless you Sister!
I'm about 175 miles south of you and got hammered big time!! 90+ mph winds.
OMG, I could never live in a place like that. As soon as that snow melted I move somewhere like Arizona. .That is something I could never get use to or would want to either. More power to you.Stay safe, Be careful and Keep on rolling.
Yep hate those snow drifts. I keep telling myself to get taller Muck boots. If you didn't have all those cats you would be overrun with mice.
If you think that's bad , my flip flop blew out and I ran out of sunscreen, stop yet wyning , move
lassie7777 - get gaiters. I use them when I do winter hikes in the Catskills and Adirondacks.
Don't miss that weather. Lived in Bismarck, North Dakota and survived blizzards followed by -40 F temps. Reno, Nevada is much better. Stay strong.
Looks like many of our winters here in the rural areas of the northeast..
Portland Oregon was 72 on that day
Yes. In the NE of the US, this is called a "dusting".
When you wake up and discover that 3 feet (90 cm) of snow fell during the night, then you know what a blizzard is.
Portland Oregon also had more Heroin overdoses @gu goop.
Pay no attention to the northeast comments. Those self centered folks always think they be at center of attention. Used to be in central N.Y., & they get pretty good snows now and then but nothing like the west & northern high plains.
and Long Island.
My mom is in her 80s. She said when they were kids her dad tied a rope from the barn to the house and when they went to feed and check the animals they were not aloud to let go of that rope going back and forth.
Gonna get crazier over this decade, gal! Semper Paratus!👍🇺🇸☮️✌️♓
Oh yea, go ahead and speak life to it. Give the demons the go ahead to fuck up your property. The power of life and death are in the tongue.
I was snowed in at the hospital several time's during the state of emergency. Old stone buildings are cold and the wind was noisy on the 6th floor. But double time and a half was worth it. 4 days with 400 mentally ill people. What a rush. I hope to visit there and Montana as well
Loved watching your dogs jump around. Dogs love snow! Ha
Been through worse. Before I moved from the suburbs of Philly to Florida 15 years ago, we went through a nasty snowstorm. Snow kept falling really heavy and wind was blowing like crazy. I lived in a twin with a front porch, and parked in front of the house on the street. By the next morning my car was completed covered and there were drifts up to the porch, and I couldn’t get the door open. The back part of the house was completely snowed in. Took almost 2 days to get everything dig out (I was on my own).
O MY stay warm please warm prayers for your family and friends and livestock.
Looks beautiful clean white snow , There you have plenty of room for it. Just think of having 3 feet of snow in a big metropolitan city like we did in 1978 with snow drifts up to the roofs of Boston's suburbs. With high tide and full Moon strong winds along our coast came major flooding .The state of Massachusetts closed for one week.
I live in the uk 🇬🇧 and I Would love a blizzard we don’t get much snow at all in England I would love to live in Canada or America it could snow all year round for me I just loved this video thank you
You would get tired of it , trust me !
I'm the same way, wishing I could be in a real blizzard, long as I had a warm house & a good fire and groceries.
Peggy Gibbons I have a big open fire and groceries lol I know what you mean you would have to be well stocked up with food lots of big duvets and a big roaring log fire
@@littlebooks4760 My daughter told me I am the only person she knows who wants to go NORTH for the Winter, when I told her I'd love to spend a Winter in South Dakota. LOL. I live in Missouri & we might have only 1 good snow a season :(
wow that is crazy! I hope all your critters stay safe
1. Everyone thinks their region has the worst blizzards.
2. You have a good dog.
3. You "...have a ridiculous number of cats". Agree.
4. You need a grill cover.
5. Thanks for the video.
She needs a grill cover? Seriously? No lectures, just watch the video. Grill cover....... Good Lord.
Thanks for the "no lectures".
Yup a grill cover and snow shoes 😁😁
