I know it’s silly but try the McDonalds in Japan. It will change your perspective of McDonalds and proves how proud and respectful the Japanese people are. Every burger comes out looking exactly like it does on the commercial.

I don't know about visiting Japan after that nuclear powerplant explosion back in 2010 or so... Japanese government is still hiding about the truth and won't tell the truth about the consequences of radioactive radiation in most major cities... I would definitely do my homework and try to visit..... Be cautious; don't trust all public hypes.

Japan is unique, as someone said here. They have a lot of regulations. They can be nice and polite. They are helpful. They keep tight regulations. Expectations. I might go. I like their culture. I like the fact that they don't act out of character. There is not much diversity, in some places, but they are amazing!

I spent a full month in Japan also! amazing country. I would recommend visiting Nagoya, Kanazawa, Mt Koya san (worlds largest cemetary on top of a mountain, and the most sought after burial site of any japanese person, also monastery homestays up there) and obviously Tokyo and Kyoto. My tips would be shop in grocery stores at around 6-7pm for discount sushi. Look up "Willer express" it's a very cheap bus company which connects cities in Japan much cheaper than the Shinkansen's and look at Sumo tournaments, there are only 6 in the year which spectators are allowed, one being the "Nagoya basho" sometime in July, we went there just for sumo and it's an incredible experience. Mt Fuji is climbable also in the July/August months. have fun Gabe!

errr,... actually, it's complicated,... there is definitely graffiti (back in the day it used to be ' black emperor ' but I haven't see his tag lately), also during garbage day the crows tear open the plastic bags and scatter stuff all over the road, really disgusting and smelly,.... biker gangs sometimes tear through the neighborhood late at night waking me up. The train station platforms towards the end of commute hour are filthy with drunk men's vomit. If people think no one is watching they will dump their large trash like old refridgerators and electronics in vacant lots or parks.

That first restaurant isn't indicative of typical meal prices.
You go to like, a normal regular cafeteria or eatery in Japan you can normally have an entire complete (non-fancy) meal for 5-6 bucks. If you're looking at a menu where average price for everything is 10 bucks like here, it's a higher than average price restaurant. (and tourist locations are like this as well)
In fact, eating out in Japan actually are generally LESS than prices in United States. That second restaurant (a major chain) prices are the more typical pricing you can expect.

I've just left Osaka! It's a great place to explore even walking tours around the suburbs. Listen out for the trash trucks 😂 I stayed in Taradecho at a hostel called Osaka guesthouse Nest (or vice versa). There's a main street there with food for around 500 and cheaper. Also a small hippie/backpacker vibe bar as you exit the station and take a right, follow the road down on the same side. The young locals in there were great fun, playing Japanese music and spoke pretty good English. It's probably one of the few alternative scenes I found around that area. Oh and if you pick up a one or two day amazing pass you'll get free travel in the city and free entry to various sights. Have fun!!

How long will you be in Osaka for? I will be there in 12 days and taking a bus up to Tokyo if you wanted to catch up for a beer or some food

Leaving Osaka in two days. I fly out of Tokyo in about three weeks so I'll be there then.

Gabe definitely check out Nara. They let deer roam the town freely and the temples are some of the best!

Excited to see where you visit in Japan! I highly recommend getting out to Kyushu. Fukuoka and Kagoshima were two of my favourite places I visited on my trip! Safe travels!

When you're in Hiroshima make sure you go to Miyajima island it's awesome. The trip to the sumit via 3 cable cars is a hell of an experience and the views are mind blowing

Japan is such an incredibly unique and interesting country. When I lived there the US dollar was worth between about 55 yen at the low end to I think 75 at the high end, so it was pretty expensive. There is so much good food to be had there, and the Family Marts and such are excellent for cheap meals that are still good quality.

That was a lovely soft landing the tremors and earthquakes there. Was you filming just a day before it happened? What a nice cozy capsule style guesthouse for $20 in a nice classy clean peaceful city place. I like Japan. I wish it weren't too expensive to live and teach English there for it's about same salaries as South Korea, but no bennies like flight and housing so it's requires a bit to go and then some in case you need to change job or leave. It is a great pleasure to be able to watch you doing things I wish I could go be doing in life now. Thank you for sharing.

That BOSS coffee is everywhere. I just wonder, whose picture is that on the bottle/can? And does he know he's all over the world?

Hi Gabriel, Osaka is a fascinating city Tokyo is always what's mentioned but seems very crowded compare to Osaka. Nice low key flavor.
