    You dont have to go back to Valdez for an oil change, just dont go to one of the big corporations, if you go to a local shop im sure they would be happy to do it.

    I visited Alaska once, and words can't describe what an incredible place on Earth we have. It's truly just an amazing, stunning, and breathtaking view. As someone who has been struggling with the purpose in life, I am finally getting back on track and feeling much better. Not going to lie, watching this video made me nostalgic, but also it moved me and inspired me to gain back the liveliness of what life experiences bring you. Thank you so much for sharing this, and wishing you the best on your journey.

    If you go by grocery store or Walmart ask for a broken cardboard box. They bale them usually shortly after opening the case. They usually don’t have boxes that aren’t crushed so you’ll actually get a box if you ask for any

    The part about putting up extra curtains up on the windows reminds me of when we camped in Norway in our 67 VW van. It wasn't a camper van, but just a plain passenger van .So my mom had to gather up all the towels and clothing to put on the windows, so we kids could sleep on the seats.

    Hi
    Can you get items shipped to you if so you can change the old oil and filter . if you can get to the filter easily
    The device attaches to van battery and a pipe goes down the oil dipstick tube. You then put the other pipe from the motorised pump into a old 8 litre water bottle and it will pump out virtually all the old oil out. you then remove old oil filter and screw on new and fill with fresh oil to level on dip stick.
    Ensure old oil is warm as it comes out quicker and easier.
    The pump is only small so would not take up much room
    Loving the videos💕

      Hi - thanks for the tip - we use garages as disposing of the old oil on the road is the hardest part 👍

    • @time4change878
      @time4change878 2 роки тому +1

      @@TREADtheglobe Hi
      It is just a thought if all else fails. Most garages will take the waste oil if in a suitable container or there are also recycle centres in most places now. It really is simple if old oil filter is easy to reach. Looking forward to your next you tube video
      Regards Frank👍

      Thanks Frank - we find a solution in a video coming soon - but like to show the real stuff to share the realities of living on the road - after 4 years we are still encountering things that are new and that is one of the reasons we love to visit new places ... But thank you for your message xx ps - Chris would normally do the oil filter changes on our cars and motorbikes ... but keeping it simple on the road and with limited space for tools ... it is just easier !! LOL - Marianne 😂👍

    You trying to block the sun out so you can sleep reminds me of when I used to work night shifts, trying to sleep during the day, not so bad in the winter, close the blackout blind get comfortable in bed and sleep. But in the summer on a hot day, the open window would allow any breeze to move the blackout blind. If I had the window closed it would be stifling hot, so then I had to rely on fans to keep cool.
    Can’t believe they wouldn’t change your oil, really simple job. Just get underneath, unscrew the sump plug, drain the old oil into a container. While the oil drains from the sump unscrew the oil filter (over a container to catch the oil that will drain out of the filter) screw on the new filter. By now the sump should be empty, screw in the sump plug and fill the engine with the appropriate quantity of oil. Start the engine, allow to idle for a minute and switch off, recheck the oil level with the dipstick, if it’s ok charge customer an extortionate amount of cash, job done, nice little earner! If you have the new filter they could easily have done the job. Maybe if you’d offered to sign a disclaimer saying you supplied the filter at your own risk they might have thought about it. I’m sure a small local mechanic will do it no problem!

  • @Bulletguy07
    @Bulletguy07 2 роки тому +2

    Any small independent Garage or village mechanic will do your oil change for you. Its an extremely simple basic job and as you're supplying the filter I expect they'd just charge you for oil as there is virtually zero labour involved.....just undoing the sump plug to drain off the old oil and one bolt drops the filter can!

    • @fairyforth3552
      @fairyforth3552 2 роки тому

      Yep, when you don't try to make little of them 1st. Geez! She said "asking him" "So if you have somebody that can change the filter and understands the process" 17:14 He had already told them " we can service the van for you" After listening to that instead of going off to look for a reason not to do it, I wold have told them to leave straight away. Talk about a mouthy woman! A little bit of self deprecating humor goes a long way in this type of situation.

    I'm baffled by how beautiful Alaska is. For an oil change, maybe look up the yellowpages for a sevice sounding italian, they wouldn't refuse a Fiat.

  • @charlesweaver8302
    @charlesweaver8302 2 роки тому +5

    You could do an oil change yourself. It's not difficult. Or find a one man mechanic.

  • @kevinerose
    @kevinerose Рік тому

    Literally to change the oil filter, they just put a suction on the cap at top to hold the oil then swap them out. Perhaps they didn't have a fitting on their vacuum to match the cap on a Fiat. That's the only excuse I can think of for Jiffy Lube.

    I love hearing you say glacier, pronouncing it with a long S, like looking through a window gl-ass. Here in Texas we say it with a long a, like glAA-cier. If that translates! I love all the different accents, same language, different emphasis on letters, its just fun! You two are absolutely FUN and I am glad you share your journey with us. If you still need your oil changed you might look for an independent mechanic who is older, they generally have a better grasp on things that don’t have a ‘block to check.’ Local residents might be a good source of referral. God Bless you guys and keep the joy coming!

    this makes me sad, we were exactly at the same overlook at Exit Glacier in 2007, in the photo I am looking at the display and the wall of the glacier is in front of me. We spent 2 days in Seward, did a boat tour to the Kenai Fjord National Park to Aialik Glacier, saw a lot of wildlife. Next day we went to the Sealife Centre and the Exit Glacier. Waited on a boretide in Turnagain Arm and visited the Wildlife Centre. So much to do and see and I thought we were going too fast. But you sure are rushing through it. Maybe you get to see the sights on your return journey. Were you caught up in the snow a few weeks ago?

    Did you try Napa auto parts for Trudy ? It’s online, I entered your vehicle , and there were some parts, but not sure what you’re looking for. I’m not sure where they ship from.

      There are no Fiat parts for vans of Trudys age - there are parts for the new Fiats as they are the same as the Ram Pro Master vans - so poor Trudy needs some bits sent over if we haven't got the spare in the boot (Trunk) xx

      I have always found it fascinating how some English words are pronounced differently in different English speaking countries even the spelling is different. But then again here in the U.S. you get the different pronunciation based on regions. I know when I lived in Germany it was that way also.

    It's really strange that the workshop doesn't service FIAT. Just an oil change though. They actually only need 2 items to do the job. A right size spanner to open the oil sump plug and an oil filter wrench.

    • @coloradoridgerunner791
      @coloradoridgerunner791 2 роки тому +1

      You have to realize that these types of service places are not very good. At my friend's shop we have seen a number of vehicles where they have overtightened and damaged the drain plug. You also hear a lot about them not tightening the drain plugs it happened to two people I know. It's always better to go to an independent garage for your service needs.

    • @Basilbrush207
      @Basilbrush207 2 роки тому

      They don’t even need to remove the sump plug bolt. A lot of workshops simply put a small hose down the dipstick hole and suck the old oil out. Saves dealing with any previously damaged sump plug bolts or dropping down the under-engine cover and a lot of mess.

    Lend us an oil catch pan and I'll do it myself. How pathetic is that, an oil change facility and they can't do it. I hope you managed to buy a pan and sort it yourself .I'm 77 and still do oil changes on my Ford Edge and F150 myself....Ron Cumpsty, ex scouser

      Hi Alan - yep - we are thinking of doing a video on costs - once we have done the accounts (should be soon!) And yes we worked for 30 years - paid off the mortgage and now rent our home out - we are able to travel further as we now get paid by UA-cam, Selling Tread merchandise, we have a fab patreon community and we also take sponsorship deals that align with our ethos and products we use, trust and think our community might benefit. LOL - no apologies required it is one of the biggest decisions we made - there is a video called - "I quit' on our channel near the beginning from when we started - it might give more information / inspiration xx and if you need to ask - please do ! Also you can direct message marianne@treadtheglobe.com - best wishes - Marianne 👍🌺

    Crazy the you couldn’t get your oil changed. We only found your channel a few weeks ago so are working our way through your vlogs. Made me think that you wouldn’t have had any trouble getting an oil change in Turkey - such helpful people over there. I’m afraid you’ve come up against the ‘it’s too difficult brigade’ and ‘computer says no’ sadly. But hey ho they’ve missed out on some great publicity you could have given them via your thousands of subscribers so it’s their loss. I hope you get it sorted soon.
