I loved this video. It answered one of the questions I had because me and my friend were have a little argument about whos abs were better because his are flat while mine pop out more but have more fat.
Lean my whole life, abs, added a few pounds of beginner gains. Ripped in high school and college. Really REALLY bad habits developed. That part of the video hit home now that I’m trying to get my abs back at 30 😂

My favorite type of abs are core combined with high rep training. Like a boxer and a gymnast. My abs aren’t as strong as I would like them to be but I got decent ab circuit for that. I started recently so I’m hoping to see results in the future. Also I love the sweater in the thumbnail. I gotta get me one of those.
I used to have a "natural" six pack because I had a skinny frame and did lots of core training as part of my martial arts training as a kid, but now that I'm hitting my 30s and stuck at home with quarantine, I'm slowly developing the potbelly. To try to regain my almighty abs, I'm actually doing the ring fit and presetting my skills to focus on "core" and "posture", because my work is pretty sedentary and I don't want to get that lower back pain. Nice vid!
Dude you hit the nail on the head. I have so many younger friends eating like shit. Like absolute garbage. Some are skinny and some are already fat. They don't take advice. One even has a degree in physiology. They are straight up not willing to give up their lifestyle until eventually a doctor will tell them, your lifestyle is ass, get healthier. They don't realize that shit runs out when you get older. It's so annoying. We're not young anymore. The earlier you start taking care of yourselves and learning good habits, the better. At least the athletes have muscle memory to get in shape again faster than the others. The others, the struggle is real to get healthy, but it is worth the journey. Site note, most of the "type of abs" thing is kinda pointless. You can build up their functionality yes, but they aren't going to look like anything or anyone your after. Your genetics will determine how they will shape from your work put into them. After doing a bunch of styles, you're going to realize what your abs are good at doing(in your head you're going to like to do those more), voila, you promoted your ab class half willingly.
Damn, so that's why my lower back always hurts. Did crunches almost everyday back when I was 17-18. I do have strong abs now but can't do a complete set without literally squirming by the time I'm done. Thanks, now I know what I need to focus on

I'm glad I added lower back stuff in my workouts, but I know if not done right it can fuck me up. On my first day doing lower back I stupidly did 100 reps over a 4 hour period and halfway through the night I felt like a handicap before I went home. I think I did something right luckly because I was only sore for 3 days and I was back to normal. I think it's because I had on one of those belts you use when doing squats.
God, every time Jax talks about newbie gains, all I can do is look down and see my insanely disproportionate physique. I spent my ENTIRE newbie gains period doing legs, every day. Sure, got some yoked ass quads, but I'm looking like a gosh dang chicken that got turkey legs. My t-rex ass looking self made a mistake. But hey, how many people can say they did reps of ~250lbs on bar (more than my body weight) in junior year?

Yeah I got a mix of flat abs and fitness abs naturally, it comes and go, abs are literally the most painful muscle to train in my opinion, honestly but the fitness I want requires me to do it.
Most of my ab work comes from isometric holds such as l-sits planks, and ab roll outs. Anything that helps prevents getting crushed or preventing rotation.

My top four abs are relatively defined, and I can see my obliques poking through a bit, but the lower ab area still has no definition. Is it mostly diet at this point? I try to eat well but it's not perfect.

I’m trying to lose fat while getting stronger and I’m interval fasting with a lot of water and a 3 mile run every day except weekends mix with basic calisthenics and I’m getting stronger cux for exp I can do one arm push ups now but I’m still at 200 lb. any advice?
#allmightyabs In my case, I don't really have abs that are visible because I'm heavily nordic which means genetically I have just a layer of fat around my midsection. The funny thing is, I don't have fat anywhere else in my body except my midsection, and the rest of me is fairly muscular but if I wanted to have abs, I would have to do some serious dieting and given that at my job I bring in carts at a grocery analog at like 22-25 carts per set for 7 to 8 hours a day, I kind of need the extra energy food gives me. Plus, I'm not really interested in the aesthetic myself, I prefer being functionally strong. Which is why, I would say, although my abs aren't visible per se, technically I have fighter abs, strong enough to take a punch but not super core strong enough to do a human flag or that pole work that woman was doing in this video, although I may be able to do a dragon flag, I'd have to test it when the quarantine is over.
