What is stock footage and artgrid?
Thank you for the link from your video on the DaVinci Resolve Studio update!
I can now send this to the person I told you I would give the second DaVinci Resolve Studio license to, so we can use the BM Cloud to work from opposite sides of the ocean.
Thank you!
Thank you for this tip! I am very shy so asking to shoot a video for someone has always kept me from becoming an editor. You’ve changed my perspective and given me hope! Thank you!
That's great! I'm so happy I could help! Thanks so much for watching!
You could be an editor of so much stuff without shooting, Lyric Videos, Audio Visulizers, UA-cam Shorts/Tiktoks, Infographics, Green Screen editor, Vfx Artist, Gaming videos and so much more!
Completely out of stock footage!!! I was just shocked when you first said that it is possible to do that, and I definitely think Artlist will help me out a lot! Great video as always, Jay!
Thank you!
Thanks SO much for this video. Man I'm excited. Felt like so many channels would discuss everything but how to create your own portfolio without also being a videographer.
Dude, so glad I found you!! I’ve been scouring the Internet to find something about video editing that doesn’t require the use of knowledge of a camera. Thank you!!
As a video editing beginner, I didn't know build portfolio, now I know about stock footage, thanks 🙌🏾
WOOOOOW! That editing epic! And to think you only did that with stock footages, phew! MIND BLOWING!! THANKS FOR THE INSPIRATION. Just subbed.
A friend recommended this video to me because I'm in that spot where I will need to branch out for clients, but have no idea where to start with a portfolio. Thank you so much, this gave me hope. I just have one problem that I'll still need to get past, and that's the fact I can't afford any of these stock sites' subscriptions just yet
There are free stock footage sites as well, like Pexels, but they don’t have nearly as large a selection and the footage isn’t quite as high quality
Yees! Love it dude! I needed this! Never thought of just using stock footage! Great music video too!
Thank you for this video. I was thinking to learn how to edit videos. UA-cam served this video up as the very first video that I should watch. And, while I don't have anything to compare it to, as it's the first video editing video that I watched, I learned a lot. Thank you again.
This is what I searched on UA-cam and your video came up top of the list: practice projects for wannabe youtube creators
Not gonna lie..this was fire! just bought Resolve 18 and I was looking at ways to practice editing videos so I can learn how to really learn the program. Thanks for the great advice!
I've graduated from University for a few months now and have had no luck in finding a job, it really is a Catch 22. This video is really what I needed right now, hoping I can get actual clients soon. Thanks.
Thank you so much JAY! This was truly helpful & eye opening. New sub..!
So helpful Jay.. good job man keep it going
Subscribed. Thank you for taking the time to make this video
Great job, Jay! I had no idea about this website! Thanks for all the tips, man
No problem man! Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you so much! You so great, it's really really helpful for me - a beginer. Thank you
Thank you very much man, you’ve really helped me out
thank you so much for this information im a new self taught video editor learning new things everyday.
Thank you so much for this video!
Good stuff man keep rocking on.
Cool video. Definitely turned out pretty well with the resources you used. Would have loved to see some footage of a singer in there to make it more cohesive but again great job with the materials you had!
Thank you for this great video! Your are amazing!
Thnx a lot bro God bless you ✌️✨ Great content Learnt something new
the music video was perfect, I have always wanted to make money so I can rely on myself besides my parents and I was scared because I didn't know how to start but your video helped me a lot, thanks a million 🔥🔥🙃🙃
That nautical star tattoo told me you were a pop punk fan before you ever did 😂Great video, subscribed!
Hahahaha yeah buddy! I’m actually a musician too. Currently writing my first record!
For the last day or so, we've been chatting on Twitter. I found this video just by googling video editing portfolio, unintentionally. 😁 Thank you for being so helpful! ~Everytingshakes
I also think the music video turned out great!
thats really good tip. thank you
That was a fantastic video! Great job
Thanks so much!
Great video very informative for learning to do editing .
Thanks for this great tip
Very useful, thanks so much! Now I can stop procrastinating lol.
🤣🤣 glad I could help!
Thanks so so much for your video :)
I love you! this is the bestt thing happend ever for me this year !! great website
Well done buddy. Amazing.
Hell yeah brother! Great video!
Appreciate it!! Thanks John!
@@JayLippman congrats on the 40k too!👏👏👊🤓
Well I think the story was there, and a few of the drum solos and guitar solos fit, the couple fighting was a great match to the song and how it escalated through the story, however no one singing up close in that natural emo emotion with the crazy hair the dim light and the wild makeup it fell through on those parts. that being said I think from stock footage it was great!.
Yeah I really wish I could have found a good clip of someone singing. There were a lot of clips, but nobody like that. Thanks for watching!
lit video fahm!!!!!thanks for the tips
dude, really helpful vid. 🤩🤩🤩
Great Insight!
I love you thanks man
thank you
Cool vide dude, good insight...music vid was pretty cool too. :P
Thanks man! This was fun to make!
thankyou so much
What effects did you add to it? I saw a couple blurs but other than that I didn’t see too much but just wanted to make sure I didn’t miss anything
HEY , i subscribe into your channel thanks for this video
Crazy how you had this idea a year before me. I did the same thing on my channel with my music video called "Back In Love". I also have a short film on my film channel titled "Before I Beat Her" all made completely out of stock footage.
Nice!
@@JayLippman thanks man!
I think if you are using stock footage to market to the music biz, the most important focus is the person singing or soloing and unfortunately that would be pretty hard to pull off. A good idea would be to get a friend or even yourself to lip sync - the lack of nobody actually singing, makes the music video a little bit unnatural and gives away the illusion. You could however wear a mask, or put tons of kiss like makeup on, and/or throw a really heavy effect on the clips - but seeing someone sing in a music video is really important, unless you have a really strong story.
But in most cases it will be a band choosing you to do their video.
Most of my work in the 15 years has come from the music business, I was hired because of my past experience in the music business and thinking and interacting with musicians.
But your good advice for people there, to target different businesses or even categories of businesses. It is my experience that if you have a bunch of commercials for lawyers - other lawyers think you are the one they should choose etc. . Even though there is nothing different to know, the inference is you would be better for them.
That is great advice Jay. You have to draw a map for some people to see by them visualising themselves in your video. Congrats again on the 40k.
Thanks Jim! I agree that having a singer in the video would have helped a lot, and believe me, I searched for one that would have worked in the video, but eventually I just had to say "Done is better than perfect," especially since the goal is more to show off your editing skills, and part of that is working with the footage you're given. Thanks so much for watching Jim!
wow, you guys really helped me a lot just now
Hilarious. Well done. Good idea about using stock footage. I think I'll try it.
Thanks
hi, thank you. this is amazing. Would help a lot to practice different editing formulas and also need not spend much time on filming. Just one question thought, the music or any audio we use, we would need to make it royalty free/clear the credits? please advice.
If you’re going to post the video on the internet, yes, the music, sfx and stock footage should all be royalty free
Thanks for sharing from you, thanks for subtitle
Pretty well is rather spot on.
Thanks!
very ad focused video, I still have no idea what kind of video editor I want to become
pretty fcking cool !!❤🔥🔥
Where would you advise to store portfolio like this? I think IG is not suitable for longer videos? Or would it depends from what sort of videos I'm into? ex, ads, music videos, etc, therefore I would either do portfolio on YT, or IG? Hope I'm making my question clear lol. Thanx :)
You just inspired me
great video
Hi Jay! First time watching your vid, and thanks for the awesome content! Just want to ask the software you used for editing? Thanks Jay!
I use Davinci Resolve to edit all my videos!
Thanks Jay! Appreciate it!
The music video was great, how did know where to place clips to fit the song
I walked through most of that in the video, but a lot of it is paying attention to the beat of the music and the movement of the clips. After that it’s just a matter of trusting your gut.
Jay, this is a home run :))
Thank you!
Great video. Can i use phone to edit video i shoot with my phone.
Hey Jay, must I add video editing reels to my portfolio website in order to get clients🤔?
Amazing video, can you buy and access art grid in the UK?
Absolutely!
Thanks for sharing this. I can edit but i don't know how to make portfolio without clients. If you don't mind what editor are you using for this music video?
I do (almost) everything in Davinci Resolve Studio
I loved the video but where is the portfolio building part of the video?
Hey Jay, very cool vid. Have a question though: would you suggest having a website where you have a portfolio section that links directly to your youtube\vimeo channel to see the videos? If so, should you upload every single work you do for your clients on your yt\vimeo? Thxx
If you’re going to use UA-cam or Vimeo as your portfolio, I would make sure that that’s all you use it for. As far as what to put on there, I would tailor it to the types of projects you want to work on.
Hey, I want to build a portfolio website using html css and js. How can I add my video editing portfolio from artgrid to the portfolio section of my website🤔😕?
Artlist seems great but is costly have to have the full effect most of it's subcriptions is annually only
Thanks for this! But i thought i can try it for free for a week but when i downloaded the videos, it has watermarks on it 😢
What is the best website to upload my portfolio?
Thx for the video but with wich tool you show the video to the client?
I use Frame IO
Greetings Jay, thank you for your video. Just a practical question if I may. Can I work with ChromaKey with 8 bit camera, or I will have noise anyway? Basically it is not possible to get good results with Chroma using 8-bit image. What do you think? Thanks!
Good chromakey is possible with 8-bit, but it is more difficult for sure, because there are less color combinations possible in 8-bit.
@@JayLippman thank you, i need to make sure i have good lighting then, right?
@@TimetoTalkwithYevgen Lighting is SUPER important, yeah.
Came for the info, stayed for the pop punk music video.
Well made If you have a name that you get attention to do things without much work. If you are a not known editor it will bring you all but no clients. Maybe the First year 500 Views but no client.
I got my portfolio but covid when it got messed things up 😡😡.. I mainly do sports edits suck cuz it’s a niche.
So I’m 17, I’ve been editing for a round 4 years and I’ve had so much experience with different clients and different types of videos. My problem is that I’m too diverse in my editing and I don’t know how to organize all the stuff into that portfolio. Like I manager social medias while editing tiktoks and reels for them, but I’ve also done music videos, highlight reels, twitch intros, and a bunch of other fun edits. Should I make a website or something? This video is really helpful for like one specific thing yk
It really depends on where you’re putting your portfolio. If it’s a website, than you can have one page for each type of work that you do. If it’s a UA-cam channel that you’re using as a portfolio, you can use playlists.
Not bad for stock
Good
Do you realize the training potential if more than one instructor and several students could watch /comment / make changes to the same Davinci Resolve Project/page at the Instructors discreation. Like a Zoom meeting but fully interactive.
I need help I don't know how to get music for my videos. Do I need to buy the music or is it free? if so where do I download it from and is it safe downloading audio files?
There are lots of places to get music from. My personal favorite is Artlist (link in the description). It’s not free, but it is 100% safe.
If you’re looking for a free option, the UA-cam music library is where you want to look. There are some songs you have to pay for, but a lot of it is free.
How can I create a video portfolio with no experience in video editing 😕🙏?
I have a question! Will clients often judge you for using stock footage? Or do they not mind?
Clients will always prefer to see actual projects you’ve worked on, but if you’ve never worked on a project before, they will understand the use of stock footage.
What requirements would you recommend for a beginner laptop where mostly stock footage like this is being used?
Graphics card, RAM, processor, etc..
get something with atleast 16 gigs of ram, or 8 gig and add a ram stick yourself; atleast ryzen 5000 series or intel 12th gen processors, and a dedicated nvidia gpu. Make sure it's an Nvidia GPU and not AMD. Something like a 1650 atleast, but 3050 and above preferably. Cheers!
@@adarshchoudhary1900 Thank you very much for your reply. I appreciate your time.
Just out of curiosity, why do you say no AMD? I've heard some people don't like them because they run hot.
@@bullheadedgideon1673 You can have AMD CPUs but not GPUs because Nvidia's GPU's have much better drivers for prefessional use cases. For example, they'll run smoothly with lesser chances of programs crashing. AMD GPUs have caught up to Nvidia for gaming, but they stll have a long way to go for professional applications :)
@@adarshchoudhary1900 Oh ok. Awesome. Again, thank you very much. I really appreciate it.
I started considering video-editing about a week ago, so I thought I'd start figuring out how much a decent beginner laptop would cost.
this video is so helpful! a question, are clients and companies okay with using stock footage in a portfolio as long as you express its not your own work? i’m not sure if some would prefer own videos, just really wanting to have a great portfolio!
An editor is supposed to mix pieces together, like a puzzle, that’s the job, taking pictures and filming is something else, so don’t worry about using any content tbh.
I’m a video editor who just wants to build a portfolio website in order to find clients that will employ me. What are the things I need to do in order for them to trust me through my portfolio website😕?
I’m saying and asking you this because I just want to get started. What are those videos or projects I can showcase on my portfolio website in order to get jobs done for them?
Could have had put the lyrics, thats trending nowadays
Hy I got a request I made a job portfolio looking at the comment section I assume you reply to your viewers , is there any way I could send you the portfolio Icreated so you could rate it and rate it out of 10 and tell me flaws in it and tell me how to improve it (I will be really thank full
I need a free screen record and video editing software for PC. Could you please help me.
Free screen recorder: The one built in to Windows 10.
Editing software: Davinci Resolve
I wish they let you pay monthly instead of annually.
Hi I am new to this but always wanted to be an video editor but dont know how to start to with. Can you please guide me
Absolutely! There are a ton of videos on my channel that can help. I would start with my How to Cut Footage Like a Pro playlist!
@@JayLippman thanks aton
"who are you again?" 11%😭😭
What video editor are you currently using??
I use Davinci Resolve unless a project requires Premiere Pro.
@@JayLippman is it free? how can i download it?
There is a free version, which is impressively full featured, and a paid version (one-time payment of $299).
You can download it here: www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve
@@JayLippman Thank you so much, mate
I can't find a video that talks about the platforms to house your portfolio though. Every youtube creator always miss the main details.
Because that part doesn’t really matter as much. You can have it stored on your computer and just send it out, you can have it on your website, UA-cam, Vimeo…that part isn’t as important.
You should have used slowmo it add so much drama
What's the difference between Artgrid and Artlist?
Well, nothing anymore. Back when this video was made, Artgrid had footage, and Artlist had music and sfx. Now it's all under Artlist.
@@JayLippman That makes sense . Thanks for getting back to me.
I'm glad I clicked on this video and sat through the whole thing because if I hadn't.... I wouldn't have gotten the motivation to actually be serious about this!
is it free to use like the footage and stuff?
Artlist? No. There are some free stock footage sites out there, but the quality isn’t as good.
@@JayLippman alr
What if I don’t have any experience?
If you have no experience, you should focus on that before trying to build a portfolio. Grab some stock footage and start practicing. If you have a friend who likes making videos, ask if you can try editing a few. Just find ways to get ahold of stuff to edit.
@@JayLippman thanks man✊🏼
Is Artgrid fottage are free for youtube?
You have to pay for an Artgrid subscription
@@JayLippman Then how i create video editing portfolio because initially I'm not afford paid website?
oh its not free
