    Maybe the algorithm is different now, but back when I worked on UpWork, I did the same thing, always offering a price much lower than was fair, but I never found that this opened any extra doors for me. I feel like I cornered myself as being the editor who edits videos for cheap.
    Also, I felt like UpWork forced you to do a lot of work yourself, writing up individual cover letters for each potential job, re-uploading work samples that you wanted to highlight. I started out on Elance, and then UpWork bought them out, and I felt like a lot of the beauty of Elance was lost. I was never actually able to make a living from freelancing. I ended up going to college for computer science and getting myself a salaried 9-to-5 instead, and now I'm able to strike a much healthier work/life balance. I do editing on the side, but the ability to make it my career still seems untenable. Again, maybe this is just me, but fair warning to any prospective young editors out there.

      So for unworkable I'm pretty sure you need some pieces of work behind you before you can get on there but if you feel like you are ready and can look at potential clients previous work and replicate that then you defiantly are ready. You will also never stop learning when video editing

    Really nice video, it kinda helped me. But Im trying to get a job as video editor for like 2 months now, Im spending all my connects on upwork and still nothing. I literally was invited for interview only once. I keep editing stock footages so I can have some videos for my portfolio, but im slowly losing my motivation. Yes, my proposals are pretty well written. But people rather choose editor with lots of earnings and experience :/

    • @HelloHelloCharlie
      @HelloHelloCharlie  3 роки тому +1

      So if you are struggling to get jobs you might need to rethink your gameplan (dont worry i had to do this aswell) There is a reason why you arnt being selected for jobs and thats because 1a - Losing motivation is causing a loss in quality in applications and 1b - the loss of motivation is causing you to hone in on one site "upwork" look on everywhere. facebook, freelancer, perpeople, indeed, twitter, linkedin. Let me know how it goes

      @@HelloHelloCharlie On upwork I sent over 80 proposals (Yes I bought some connects), I made pretty nice cover letter I would say so I dont think its because of this. I dont know but other sites are bit "inactive". I tried for example peopleperhour, someone post there a job like once in a two days and it get 30 applicants, who already has earnings/rating, so that put me into last places. I dont really know where to look on facebook/twitter. I tried searching for "video editing" or "need video editor", I found few posts that were relevant and got like 300 comments. If you have any groups/advices where to search on twitter/facebook, hit me up! I might try linkedin but I dont know, if I will stand any chance there. Hope something will show up soon.

    My girlfriend showed me this video to help me with my start in editing and i'm so glad! It's good to see in your video and in the comments that the spirit of editing is alive and well, also seems like a niche market that you can have your own space while also competing with other editors. Would you suggest taking inspirations from your favorite music videos, movies, or shows editing in order to get a sense of style, and then slowly form your own style ?

    • @HelloHelloCharlie
      @HelloHelloCharlie  3 роки тому +4

      Man this is such a feelgood comment thank you so much, and you're right! The spirit of editing has beautifully flourished in this comment section!! But answering your last bit, your style will change so much over the course of being an editor mine constantly shifts but let it be free flow, the more you can shift and change per project/brand the better you get. And don't be afraid to copy, noone is original
