Turned out the person who mapped it with their own Zafira map, set it to demand 550 millibars of boost and 610NM from idle. Madness! Engine no2 lasted 2500 miles - not from driving it hard, but a bolt or washer must have dropped in to the engine during transplant and worked its way to a cylendar and smashed about in there. Never good when a new car goes bad! I recall a BMW dealer tell me that if I were ever to buy a new car with launch control, get the dealer to print off the sheet indicating how many Launch Controls have taken place, it’s all recorded! This was at the time of the E46 M3 SMG. Ever since I have often wondered about these DSG or DCT systems and would never choose one over a manual despite the advantages. The torque would be greater than the output of the engine since the torque converter would be multiplying it ! Lauching a car is very hard on the drivetrain, especially with good traction ....
Was there no torque management being utilized via a TCU tune? I know guys like 034 have launch mode torque safety limiters in place to (theoretically) preventing stuff like this from happening. Glad you got out of it without costing an arm and a leg. We used to have a B8 A4 with an APR stage 1 tune and we were denied a transmission replacement because of that. Nevermind the fact that there was a literal class action lawsuit about the transmissions failing where audi was replacing them at no cost yet despite ours failing in the exact way the lawsuit specified, we were denied a replacement because of the tune. They wanted $9000 to replace the transmission and the car wasn't even worth that much. We had a junkyard transmission shipped to a local mechanic for $800 and with about $200 worth of fluids, gaskets/etc we swapped it in.
Damn right as good as modern cars are they break just like older stuff and the bills are usually stupidly high. Launching a car is pretty much putting the maximum stress on it hence why shit snaps/ breaks.
I've launched my Golf R a few times but tend not to. But as Ben said in this video - DCT boxes don't engage until you lift off the brake, unlike torque converters.
A good reason not to load up a torque converter gearbox. I tried it once on my X5 50i but it just felt like in a 2.5 tonne car with 4WD and a twin turbo V8, forward motion could be replaced by a very expensive BANG. Not gonna do it again. Thanks for the reminder. Good luck OG.
He pushed the car too hard of he left it in a factory condition this wouldn't have happened but he modified the engine and exhaust and left the gearbox stock so his own fault
Mechanic is a very decent guy. Shame the torque converter box isn't as reliable as a dsg. Heard of them breaking before. Your golf R handled more load!!😎👍🏽
Glad it’s fixed, I know you said it’s mechanical and not map related, but surely putting all the extra power through the car it’s putting loads more strain on parts that were made for the power it had out the box not after it’s tuned?
AN D1 does things different, UA-camrs like to leave subscribers on cliff hangers and care way too much about profit, this guy just does it for our entertainment and puts everything into one video to satisfy our needs, Ricky lost his he doesn’t like to engage with fans and has lost his passion when it comes to reviewing other people’s cars, he just doesn’t seem like he wants to be there anymore!!
BIG UP Ben for that quick TIP OF CHECK YOUR COMMON PROBLEMS ON CARS BEFORE YOU BUY 💯 you can buy and rs6 but can you afford the repair bill. I sold my c5 rs6 when they told me gearbox repair is 3k if it goes wrong and its common !!! Very helpful video OG!!! Thank you
On my old b8 rs5 if anything goes wrong ,right away there is an exact warning message to the problem. Strange that the new one with better tech isn't telling u anything on the dash.
Why fight, just pay and get it fixed. It’s clearly the extra power...*that’s the problem with society today, it’s always someone else’s problem. Great to see someone taking responsibility*
S WB i never said it’s anyone else’s problem, but cars have warranties for a reason. Yes if it’s completely stripped out and a race car I get it. However if you can at least get a contribution why not try.
Actually with traction switched off and in dynamic mode, the car does not fully load the box. It launches perfectly well. I have launched my RS5 several times.
As a mechanical engineer, I never launch my cars...surprised that part is not available, I reckon some firm somewhere will start producing uprated replacements soon as this must of happened to many more Jamie.
You dealt with this well mate! Positivity will get you through 👊🏻 I remember having a gearbox failure on my E92 M3, similar sort of noise. The Internet said they were bullet proof! I did the same as you and got lucky with an ebay find! I was so lucky it wasn't the engine though as those things aren't cheap.
Best to shop around to get audi repaired, i wouldn't go to the main dealer, find an independent audi specialist who can fix it or recondition the part.
Bro you always smiling even when you have issues like this...so positive, other you tubers can be kicking off and getting angry over stupidness so respect. You all about cars not all about me me me like others you seem humble that is why you ain't got people disliking you as person. Keep up the good work Jamie 👍🏾👍🏾
With a torque converter gearbox, the car manufacturer will account for the torque the car will make stock. If you are "loading" the diff and gearbox with way more torque because of tuning then it is bound to snap sooner or later. I would just not use launch control in any torque converter car.
If the car is lurching when you try to launch it, that means you haven't properly engaged launch control. When launch control is properly engaged, the engine should only rev to about 3500 RPM while building boost. I've launched my 2018 S5 plenty of times and the car never lurches.
These torque converter boxes are not up for extra power, continuous launches will put extra strain on the drive train and something always gives. Same thing happened do my mates s5 in standard form but the dealer didn’t want to cover it under warranty and wanted over 15k to repair.
The gearbox is not the issue its the diff. People are so caught up on dct and think torque converter autos can't handle power yet most competitive drag cars run a torque converter auto over a dct. Plenty of dual clutch transmissions have failed and clutches can only handle so much power just like a torque converter. Dct was favoured for shift times and possibly weight not power handling.
Great content as usual Jamie!!!! Glad your man at devil found a reasonable fix. One thing though you need to tell people that if you hear a bang switch the engine off and wait till someone who has a clue to turn up and help. I've got visions of young'uns filming a noise whilst pistons and valves destroy themselves.
I had a lot of issues with my stage 2 RS6 too - Audi aren’t stupid they checked my logged boost pressures and so they knew it had been mapped straight away, warranty didn’t cover shit
So glad the RS5 is back up and running Jamie!! Great news on the repair too. I rent you mentioning that weird little issue a while ago too. But the baby looks like she is ready to fly!!!
I use to do hard launches as a kid but as I got older I realized it was just too hard on the automobile. Now I compensate by going on road trips doing high-speed blasts. I drive German now and those cars prefer the open road anyway.

Glad it’s fixed, I know you said it’s mechanical and not map related, but surely putting all the extra power through the car it’s putting loads more strain on parts that were made for the power it had out the box not after it’s tuned?
This guy has changed the car UA-cam scene
why?
How? You mean
@@danr8169 yes
No LLF has changed the scene
Thank you
Damn first the Acura and now the RS5
Wait what happened to Acura?
@@Anotherottensoul he broke the clutch when he was trying to do a pull
thank you
@@Anotherottensoul happy to help
@@justar6865 he didn't break the clutch. It was a driveshaft
On my old b8 rs5 if anything goes wrong ,right away there is an exact warning message to the problem. Strange that the new one with better tech isn't telling u anything on the dash.
Sounds like the diff, or drive shafts. Also re the warranty they have to prove the tune caused it so fight it till the death.
you only get a few launches covered under warranty (stupid i know) they would only have to look in the gearbox measured values and laugh at you
MrBluewaffles yeh the old m5 used to be like that on the v10 think it was like 4-5 launches
2 launches but his does t have launch control so wouldn't store any info on ecu
Why fight, just pay and get it fixed. It’s clearly the extra power...*that’s the problem with society today, it’s always someone else’s problem. Great to see someone taking responsibility*
S WB i never said it’s anyone else’s problem, but cars have warranties for a reason. Yes if it’s completely stripped out and a race car I get it. However if you can at least get a contribution why not try.
Actually with traction switched off and in dynamic mode, the car does not fully load the box. It launches perfectly well. I have launched my RS5 several times.
"but we're still gonna send it" 😂😂😂
As a mechanical engineer, I never launch my cars...surprised that part is not available, I reckon some firm somewhere will start producing uprated replacements soon as this must of happened to many more Jamie.
You look so stressed bro. Keep ur head up and take time bro 💯
You dealt with this well mate!
Positivity will get you through 👊🏻
I remember having a gearbox failure on my E92 M3, similar sort of noise. The Internet said they were bullet proof! I did the same as you and got lucky with an ebay find! I was so lucky it wasn't the engine though as those things aren't cheap.
At least the Honda won’t give you these type of problems g
But the Honda has broke as well 😭
markcozzie won’t be a 13k fix tho more like 200
Shotting it wasn’t 13k tho
Driveshafts will definitely snap on a honda
It will if he keeps trashing it like he does
Best to shop around to get audi repaired, i wouldn't go to the main dealer, find an independent audi specialist who can fix it or recondition the part.
That is upsetting bro... :( but atleast its fixed now and the RS5 is a beast tho looks very sexy aswell haha :D
Sorry to hear about your breakage Jamie and THANK-YOU for not splitting that video. Nothing worse from out point of view.
Audi’s.... same thing with Nicks RS6 - same thing with Calvins RS6 - same thing with your RS5..... It’ll happen again!
I am always amazed at how large some of the engine components are. Especially the gear box. It's massive.
Just blown my mk5 gti and I've only lost a fraction of that money.. and I'm crying like a baby
what happend and what broke?
@@Foozefighter cam chain tensioner broke whilst driving spiritedly
Bro you always smiling even when you have issues like this...so positive, other you tubers can be kicking off and getting angry over stupidness so respect. You all about cars not all about me me me like others you seem humble that is why you ain't got people disliking you as person. Keep up the good work Jamie 👍🏾👍🏾
That’s why rs5s there good cars but they just use too much stock parts on it
for that price you may as well call or email Holinger or Albins in Australia. They can manufacturer new strengthened gears.
Noooooooo damn it😕🤯
I got lucky. When I did my cv shafts. Aftermarket heavy replacements were only $50 more than factory. And 10 times as strong. $340 for 2
Surprised this hasn’t happened to me yet... my car had broken almost everything else but this 😂
Audi= Another useless dam import
Daniel Moreno My RS3 has been so problematic. Really should’ve sold it by now to be honest.
You just gotta imagine how much stress the internals, and gears experience. Especially when the engine is putting out mad power!
Try warranty claim :)
Hes tuned it or something I think it woids it not sure
Never known Audi/VW engineering for performance longevity. Had a s-line b5 and learned the hard way...
Lesson to learn: don’t launch an audi.
Don't buy an audi
With a torque converter gearbox, the car manufacturer will account for the torque the car will make stock. If you are "loading" the diff and gearbox with way more torque because of tuning then it is bound to snap sooner or later. I would just not use launch control in any torque converter car.
I bet it's fine. Just click baiting us all 🤣
Sorry this happened! Such a beautiful ride... you must be gentle with her from time to time... let her heal :)
Ahhhh sheeeeet 🤣
If the car is lurching when you try to launch it, that means you haven't properly engaged launch control. When launch control is properly engaged, the engine should only rev to about 3500 RPM while building boost. I've launched my 2018 S5 plenty of times and the car never lurches.
Need to modify the driveshafts to have a weak spot that is just slightly weaker than the gears on the diff, have a waisted section on both sides
Thanx for the video, i have learnt something with these torque converter car, we own a f90 M5 with a torque converter thus this is a lesson.
Because you didn’t let us wait 3 weeks to know whats wrong, I subbed. Keep up content like that brother! A gem this channel
Good save and u have plenty more spares now. Take extra care with the new turbos. Maybe get more gears made in higher ksi material.
wish I lived closer to this garage! I would definitely be using it for any problems I had!
I feel you Jamie. My engine on my Golf 7 R went the other week. Looking for a repair bill off 7000 Euro.. RIP
Yes but still very interesting to learn about the fails in tuning cars as well. 👍 up to your honesty.
I use to do hard launches as a kid but as I got older I realized it was just too hard on the automobile. Now I compensate by going on road trips doing high-speed blasts. I drive German now and those cars prefer the open road anyway.
