I made these ribs today in my Instant Pot Duo Crisp + Air Fryer. I went 25 minutes for the pressure cooking, and followed the same times for the rest. The taste texture was perfect! Thanks for this recipe!

Quick release steam, releases moisture from meat. Water is boiling inside the meat, and when you quick release, that moisture goes right to steam. Natural slow steam release, allows the moisture to drop below boiling, and so meat retains its moisture throughout cooking. It takes a bit longer than an hour, but it results in juicier finished product for any electric pressure cooker.

I do see your point and I have heard a lot of explanations on this and I appreciate hearing them...I might agree it helps on some meats and may be somewhat noticeable on say a beef roast but I'm not sure pork has the issues with it beef... but... please don't take this wrong...I really appreciate these type comments because I love learning anything I can and all comments help me... and my subscribers to learn along the way which is pretty much why I'm doing it...thanks again and thank you for watching!!!

Great comparison! My husband is a chef and for DECADES he boiled the ribs them baked them with sauce. I made ribs in my IP, slathered on the BBQ sauce and broiled for like 5 minutes... He was SO IMPRESSED. At home, we ONLY make ribs in the IP. I need that duo in my life. I think hubby will understand. I would put on the BBQ sauce during the air frying stage to see if that works. Love your videos, Jelly007. Lol

I like that the Foodi barrel is shorter and wider. It's easier to maneuver the food and not burn myself on the edge. The bottom is also flat making it easier to spread food evenly across the bottom. I LOVE my Foodi, It's replaced 95% of my stove cooking!

Thanks for your hard work on these comparison videos, it was very helpful for me! Based on your reviews, I upgraded my InstantPot from 2015 to the InstantPot Duo Crisp because here in Florida I need to avoid heating my kitchen up as much as I can. Thanks to your thorough review showing the vent temperatures differences between the models, it was easy for me to make this choice. It was also $42 cheaper ($118 after tax) than the Ninja. I used it for the first time last night and can't wait to see what it can do! Thanks again!

I've been watching your vids this morning because I'm going to use it today for the first time....I'm just using the pressure cooker part today. This is All NEW to me! I have the crock pot and the Air Fryer separately but looks like I'll be able to give those both away from what I've been seeing from your vids today! So awesome to be able to WATCH you use this bc truthfully I'm a bit intimidated by this machine! Lol! There are silicone trivets that I have found to be easier to use than the metal trivets due to not being quite as hot when it comes time to remove what's being cooked. One is slotted similar to a regular metal trivet and the other one I have is more like a colander and is perfect for putting meat with veggies and stuff in. Just wanted to mention it.

Came out pretty well. I made a lot more than you did and actually could have cooked them longer for tenderness. Had to do one chunk in the oven but was happy with the job the fryer did on the others. Just need to sauce them more next time. Going to try the same thing with wings tomorrow. I’d hesitated but your video sold me on it.

You are right about not wanting going for fall off bone. I found cooking them that much will start to dry them out, and make them chewy. I do ,however make my own sauces and rubs, because it saves money, and I can control the salt, and preservatives.

I got rid of my Instant Pot and got the Ninja Foodi Deluxe 9 in 1 and I live by that appliance. I've not used my stove for anything but for making fried/poached eggs.
Ialso don't use that basket for airfrying, I layer them on the multi racks and it gets more heat around the meats on all sides. Also French fries on the pizza pan, on a parchment paper liner is the only way to make french fries. I love my Ninja Foodi Deluxe 9 in 1. If it breaks [from massive usage] I will get the very same one again.
I love how I can dehydrate everything as well. With the plandemic, I have dehydrated nearly every veggie known to mankind. I make cakes and muffins in my Foodi. I even made figgy pudding for christmas in the Foodi. Turned out fantastic. Only wish it made pasta and ice cream and I'd be so happy.

Great Video! In France don't get latest models till later. Point for me, I love the idea that you can make for 2 or 3. Being a cook and married to a French chef, I lays cook loads, to freeze, or for when my 4 daughters come over with family. In which case, making ribs for loads (and freezing) is quicker traditional way. I am hesitating between the two newer models of both. How is the non stick on the Ninja? I like stainless steel, as I 'think' you can brown on the hob first? And maybe longer lasting?

Hi, John . . . you have done an awesome job putting your review cookers through extensive testing. I love the enthusiasm you have for these great devices.
I am so torn between the Ninja Foodi Deluxe 8 qt and the Instant Pot Duo Crisp 8 qt. Here are a couple of questions I have before buying:
    I. Can you tell me if I can set the Sous Vide in the Instant Pot Duo Crisp to 110 degrees? If so, I should be able to use this setting to incubate Yogurt for 8 or 10 hrs. . . . I'm afraid the lowest temp is higher than this, so your advice would be helpful. If I can get the Instant Pot Duo Crisp to 110 degrees, this will allow allow me to have a unit offering Sous Vide while being able to handle making Yogurt.
    2. The Instant Pot has a stainless steel inner pot, while the Ninja Foodi has a non-stick ceramic-like coating. What is easier to care for, in your opinion -- I'm afraid the non-stick might not last, or retain prior cooking odors -- which would not taste great when making Yogurt.
I will continue to enjoy your videos. Love the recipies and advice. Thanks for going to all the trouble . . .
    Ian

I will have to get back to you on the sous vide temp...I feel positive it will go to 110 but I am not positive so I need to check that when I get back home in a few days...if it is urgent I can have my kids check but I would feel better to verify myself....as far as the ceramic coating on the Ninja I have never had any problems with it and it cleans very easy...that being said...I think any pressure cooker your going to do delicate or certain recipes in needs to have at least one extra sealing ring...a different color of possible because the one you use in some savory recipes or something with say garlic needs to be used for that type dish only as it will pick up fairly strong odors...It is not a huge problem most of the time but it would be for yogurt...hope this helps and thanks for watching!

@@JohnSanders Thanks so much for your quick and thoughtful reply. No need to rush and have the kids do the testing . . . when you have time, I would love to know if 110 degrees is a possibility for Yogurt. If you are able to confirm the 110 degrees, then the Instant Pot will be the choice! Good advise about getting rings of different colors to help identify them for specific cooking tasks. Thanks again . . . and safe travels home! Ian

Hey John --- I enjoyed your video. Came here trying to pick which one of these 2 to buy. Your review did not help with that, since you said they're both pretty awesome. But, I enjoyed your personality, and recipe... So... I guess once I do decide which one to get, I'll have to come back here. Some of the reviews on Amazon said the Foodi does the best air frying, better than some standalone air fryers..... And Sous-vide sounds kind of cool too, since I do enjoy a lot of meat. Though- I see you have another video on them - let's see if that helps me with the decision. :) You've got a new subscriber.

Thanks Ori...I find they both do an excellent job... the sous vide on the other hand...I found to be lacking in this particular model...I have a video on the Duo Evo plus instant Pot... the sous vide on it is much better as its the Ninja deluxe model... hope this helps and thank you very much for subscribing!!!

One thing to note: always use a towel to open steam vent and let the towel buffer the up shooting steam.
Winter time steam is great for the home, not the underside of cabinets. Summertime i cook and vent outdoors.

I just purchased my Instant Pot + Duo Crisp and am looking forward to making ribs in it. I prefer my ribs to be a bit smoky tasting. Would there be any concerns with adding maybe 1 tsp of liquid smoke to the beer for the pressure cooking cycle?

In my experience the bite comes from quick releasing the pressure. Like with a roast you want in to do a natural release, if you quick release a roast it comes out tough. I was doing a natural release for my rips and couldn't get them out of the pot without them falling apart and drooped the time from 40 to 30 then to 25, still would fall apart. Then when cooking roast I noticed quick release makes it tougher so I started doing that on my ribs to make them perfect.
So if you don't want ribs impossible to get out of the pressure cooker in one piece do a quick release.

Great video and review, John. I have a regular IP (my first purchase) and a Ninja Foodi. I love both. I probably won't buy the new IP Crisper as I'm running out of kitchen storage space. One thing I love about the Foodi over the IP is the non-stick liner pot...It's awesome. I don't particularly like the non-detachable and two lid system for the Foodi... Thanks again for the video and comparison.

John, I am surprised you did not Temp them for comparison. Also, it would be nice to compare both of them, making your favorite fries. I like the Foodi's Lids solution for the air fry mode as it makes it very easy for quick checks. As for the price, I just checked the new Pot is $300 on Amazon and the foodi I bought from Sams for $130 on sale, just saying.

    • @JohnSanders

Yeah...I didn't temp them because they were a little different in thickness but both were perfect texture and I think that difference in lid design will be most people's deciding factor...thanks for watching!
