I'm playing this in my youth orchestra...I knew what a bacchanal was, but I didn't expect it to be this...intense. Lol. Great performance however. Great dancers and amazing song. :D
Timpani guy plays to his own beat as if saying "it's my solo, everyone else keep up". I had played this in high school (french horn) and only 15 years later do I see what kind of dance I should have envisioned I was actually accompanying.
If, as suggested by the libretto, the dancers (temple votaries?) are to inspire the watchers to renewed heights of lust and carnal activity, I would say the choreographer (Blue and her VarieTease Dancers--not your usual ballet company then) should put a check in the "Job Done Successfully" column.

This was the tune that got me interested in the oboe.
