I never saw this video before, though I'm very familiar with the recordings. It's no wonder the performances are so spectacular, look how vigorous Solti's conducting is. Astonishing!
while you are correct that Wagner Tuben is plural, the singular is not Tube but in fact Tuba. 1 Wagner Tuba, 2 Wagner Tuben. In German, plurals are often formed with -en endings.
@posaune1220 Das gilt nur wenn das Instrument "Tuba" heisst was nicht der Fall ist. The instrument is Wagnertube in any language , there is no Wagnertuba in German, nor should there be in English really, please see the scores and writing of Wagner. Manufacturers of Wagnertuben in Germany, Engelbert Schmid for one, catalogue: Wagnertube There are Tuba in both languages and the German plural of that is as you say. This instrument is not a Tuba, it is a Wagnertube, got it? :-)
We were so lucky to have had Georg Solti making music for as long as he did. Wow.
Ahh we are playing a version of this arranged for Brass Choir!
Thank you so much for the post and keep them coming!
Great! Very Passionate! so sad, the recording doesn't start from the beginning...
I have this on DVD but have never noticed the violins standing before!!! The DVD is well worth getting.

@Arch5280 - So that he can be playing with extra support when his colleagues are taking a breath? Staggered breathing probably.

Why does the good professor 2nd trumpet breathe in the middle of a note?
Great video. I have to ask - why does this channel disable embedding?
